    I'm a lifelong Ping gamer that goes way back to mid '80's. I've played 4 different generations, all anywhere from 7-10 years on average, and just 3 years ago got my 5th generation of Pings (at least for me, anyway - the Ping iBlades). I'm about a 5 handicap, and they're wonderful clubs. You can work them either way, and just like your test shows, distance control is truly incredible. Over the long haul, distance control is probably the most important factor. Just my opinion :). I figure i'm set for probably about another 7 years; Ping makes very resilient clubs.

    I play and love my i210s so I was interested to see how the full range would perform.
    G710 is just a great iron for higher handicap players that would work really well for a good ball striker who has lost a bit of speed.
    G425 is probably the pick of the Ping range and probably the best iron out there for that particular segment of the game improver market
    The i500 is the biggest problem child in the Ping family, lovely to look at but rather out performed by the newer hollow bodied irons. My guess is that the i500 is due for replacement later this year - i521 maybe?
    For the next problem child is the iBlade. It is a very good club, very consistent perfect for the good ball striker but the problem is that the i210 is as good if not better in every respect and offers a bit more forgiveness.
    The Blueprint is a very specialised club, only for the best and most consistent ball strikers and Ping's foray into the forged market. I am not sure Ping needs to have both the iBlade and Blueprint - maybe they will phase one out when the other comes up for replacement.

    Stoked for a refresh of this line, especially the i200s and iblades. Clearly ping hasn't/doesn't think a new design would offer too much of a benefit, which goes to show how underrated these clubs are.

    Very good review. Intresting to see the comparison between all the models.
    I would love to see the same review with a lower swing speed (as you suggested you may do).
    If you do a lower swing speed test on the stronger lofted clubs, please include a test of longer irons (e.g. 5 or 4 iron) to see what ball flight is achieved and what stopping power there is. The longer irons are my concern for strong lofted clubs, that they will not work with a slower swing speed.

    Great video. One thing you don't mention is that these clubs come in different shaft lengths too with blueprint being the shortest length 7i and i700 the longest. You use the same shaft in all but the regular punter will see something different. I've got a combo set of iBlades and Blueprints and needed to get them reshafted as the drop in shaft length from 7i in iBlade to 8i in Blueprint was out of synch as a result of them having different standard specifications.

    Excellent information. Thankyou; looking forward to the slow swing speed version.
    When conducting a club fitting and you find a golfer right on the border of a club style, say between the G425 and the i500, (14 handicap) which club do you recommend? (Older golfer who is likely to lose or at least maintain swing speed)

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  3 года назад

      At that point, we leave it up to what the golfer prefers the look of. We always want players to have as much confidence as possible when standing over a shot, and a lot of times the look of the club matters a lot

    I'm fascinated as a high flight/high spin player how in the world I got fit into i210s based on what I just saw here but I'm certainly not surprised that I've struggled so much to get my flight down and control spin! You should not be able to back up a 5-iron on a reasonably well-maintained green...

    Am I the only person who thinks it is nuts that he is hitting a 7 iron between 185 and 200 depending on the iron at only 89 swing speed? I am at a 100 swing speed on a g425 with a 24 launch angle (which is too high) and I am carrying 170. How do I get the launch angle lower? Is it because I have a lighter graphite shaft and I need a stiff graphite shaft?

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  3 года назад +2

      Hi Todd. Great question and thanks for watching. 100 mph swing speed is a lot of speed for a 7iron. More speed equals more spin on the ball, spin causes the ball the rise. Additionally as you mentioned 24 degree launch angle being too high. I would recommend two things to help. 1)Slow the swing down you don't need to swing a 7iron at 100 mph it's leading to you loosing efficiency on distance. 2) If you have access to a launch monitor pay attention to the dynamic loft, you will want this closer to the low-mid 20's. Slower speed and a lower dynamic loft (compression) will lead to a better efficiency. - Thomas

      @@2ndswing great advice and I appreciate it. I am not even trying to swing hard, that is what is frustrating. I have noticed in swing fittings using GC Quad that when I slow down my swing it loses momentum and I lose my line sometimes. I am the type of golfer who is better at a consistent take back and follow through, since golf is a release sport I think movement and momentum is best through the ball and trouble comes when we do not release (for me at least). I know it comes down to swing tempo and I need to try and slow it down, I suppose I haven't figured out the best way to do that yet. One thing that worked last night on the course is more of a 3/4 swing as I think I have been taking my irons to far back (parallel). I am hoping that works to slow me down, I am going to fitting again tonight to try it.

  • @bradfordcotta5925

    Thomas. You know your game really well. I have a simulator and know that my spin rates seem to be so much lower when hitting on mats. I noticed that your spin rates in this test, even with the blades, was lower than I would think a great player like yourself would have. Do you know what your REAL spin rates, on grass, are compared to spin rates off mats? I can't find any definitive data on the difference, only that there is a difference. Curious because I can't move my simulator outdoors to test myself and I know my spin rates are usually pretty high since I stop the ball on a dime on greens. Just an estimate would be fine.

    • @ulrichbohmer9279
      @ulrichbohmer9279 3 года назад

      I never understand this. My spin rates are always significantly lower off a mat than off gras. This obviously has an impact on the distances as well. I always hit my irons shorter on the course than the distance I get on a simulator.

    • @Golfzilla70
      @Golfzilla70 3 года назад +1

      FWIW, Ping makes those "crossover" clubs that seem sort of like a hybrid, but aren't quite. I carry the 3 crossover (19*) and the 5 crossover (25*) --- i'm no long-drive world-beater, but for me the 3 travels about 194 in the air, and the 5 travels about 184 --- leaving the 5 iron in my iblades to smoothly travel about 175 and so forth down the line. I'm ignoring the 4 iron in both versions, and I feel like I have great gapping. And i can hit the 3 & 5 crossover just like irons (taking a small divot instead of a "sweeping" action on the swing). I think the hollow heads allow you to swing a little slower with those longer clubs and still get the ball to jump off the face. Just food for thought.

    • @ulrichbohmer9279
      @ulrichbohmer9279 3 года назад +1

      I play the I200's. They are basically exactly the same as the I210'. I think they are a degree stronger in loft than the Iblades so the combo set you are suggesting should work perfectly.
