Thanks for the on course comparison! I have had similar experiences with bigger clubs. For whatever reason I have better all around performance from more compact clubs compared to larger ones...
Another excellent and thought provoking vid, thanks. As a senior mid/high h/c golfer, I am only interested in shorter irons, using hybrids for longer than 7 iron. But do like my irons to look clean and unfussy, and be “satisfying” to use - so i59, P790 & hmb all appeal - but am daunted by their player iron category. So your approach in treating the long and short irons separately, is refreshing. Price per iron is less relevant, as I would only be buying 4 or 5 of them! (Plus I tend to keep clubs much longer than many)
Great pics & production Andy - Wallasey looks a $M in the sunshine. We are a bit spoiled here in Wirral - we have 14 courses. As far as irons go, folks should get fitted... pick clubs that suit their eye, where the like the look and feel builds their confidence. I've never taken any notice of artificial categories - probably why I have a combo set.
Many thanks Andy that was an interesting H2H👍 A number of the other reviews that I had watched commented that the I59 was quite punishing on mishits, it was interesting that you didn't see that out on the Course. They certainly look good, but as others have commented that Price would be an issue for some.
The i59's look really nice, however, the NEW Mrs Byrne would hit the roof if I paid £230 quid per iron for a set of clubs! Regarding category of player, I feel, the smaller the head the more it makes me concentrate on the strike. I tried the Titleist blades a while back and loved them, hit them so well!
Hi Andy. Had a set of i500's and replaced them with PXG 0211's earlier in the year at £116 per iron. Hollow core, soft and very forgiving plus choice of shafts at no cost and fantastic looking. And they custom fit was very, very thorough. They are now £80 per iron ( I'd think for a limited period) and I cannot see the justification for a difference of £170 per iron circa between the PXG offer and the PING i59's.
Just got i59 P-5. The feel is incredible. Not exactly like a one piece forging but extremely solid with a slight crackle. Zeus would love these irons, lol. I would say they are just as forgiving as ZX7, more forgiving than T100, maybe more forgiving than Mizuno 225. Certainly the cleanest and most beautiful. Well done, Ping.
Started as a beginner on the proper old fashion blade Wilson Staff fg51 because it looked shinny in the shop. Did me no harm as I got to single figure. People need to stop been scared of this so called myth.
Great video, I can’t see me changing from my i500’s. I have tried others brands but, Ping will always be in my bag. The i500’s just work for ME. I wouldn’t mind a g425 5 iron because that the lowest iron I carry.
Interesting video. Got fitted for i500 back in 2019 and love my set. Quite a price differential to ‘upgrade’ to i59 which for me, I’m not sure I’d benefit from or notice the difference, perhaps the cost to upgrade being better spent on lessons on and off the course. Having said that, my coach wants to try T100/T100s at a fitting today…. We’ll see where we get to as ultimately I’m the limiting factor. Keep up the great work!
@@remoevans2233 Have to say my coach let me try the i59s during my fitting for the T100s. Being brutally honest, they’d be wasted on me as I couldn’t really notice a difference between them and the i500 for my level of ability. The T100s though did make me think about changing which was a huge surprise to me (however equally, that might be something that a tweak in lie angle on my existing clubs could change in order to make the best of my evolving swing shape, becoming less steep).
i tried them both, everything said is true but i prefer my i500 over i59 tested considering i59 had better launch & descent angle. i can easily hit the sweet spot of i59 consistently but am just not within that skill level maybe cuz i lost around 15 yards in distance with i59 at 7iron.
Classy video. I've played with some low handicap guys this year who've used i500s. Agree that you can't really categorise clubs. That said, unless my numbers come up in the lottery I won't be getting a set of i59s!
Great comparison Andy. All golfers have their good days on the golf course where they are flushing it and the bad days where the swing just isn't quite there. I wonder on the bad days if the more forgiving nature of the i500 would give it the edge. Great as the i59 looks I also wonder if the pricing will put it out of reach of many average golfers. I don't know what the launch price will be here in New Zealand but based on the UK RRP and the current exchange rate one iron would be more than my weekly pension! I would love to changer my 20 year old irons but I couldn't justify the cost. for these
I've found that with me when I hit a smaller bladed club I strike the ball better than a larger blade club. I think it has something to do with concentration....at least for me it is....good video as always....
I know a guy who hates his i500s after replacing i210s. I'm happy with my i210s started with a cheap half set of blades 35 years ago and feel ive found Excalibur this year
I’ve got a set of I500 irons in great condition that look great, feel great and perform well. I can’t see how the i59s would be that much better at the price.
This is the EXACT question I am asking myself. I would probably go with the power spec on the i59, but am looking at more consistency. I am a decent ball striker and have a single digit handicap.
I think the difference will be noticeable over time, not as much on a day you’re swinging it well. On off days the forgiveness will kick in on the i500s. Hitting in the middle you won’t notice much besides the loft. 😊 maybe have to measure it over 10-20 full rounds.
If money was no object it would be the i59 hands down. It's a fantastic looking iron and so are the new glide pro wedges. Haven't had a chance to try them out so don't know about the feel which would be the deciding factor. Just like when PXG was selling overpriced clubs there are to many other irons out there that look and feel as good or better to justify paying that price.
If you can afford them😁 think the new irons are way overpriced and they have taken a lot of golfers out of the market at this price ,stick with my 500s but going to give them a go at the range for the fun of it
At the long end of the bag the loft differences are pretty stark. i59 5i 27 degrees, i500 5i 24 degrees that is a difference of 11% at the 9i there is 2 degrees of loft difference or c.5%. I play i210s and will not change them for the i59. I love the look of the i59s but for me the i210s just work really well, but if I was buying now I would be very tempted to blend a set with i59s & i210s. The i500 is now getting to be an old design and arguably significantly out performed by more modern hollow bodied designs from PXG, TM - it is due for a refresh. Might be interesting to redo the video when the i500 replacement comes out
These Club Manufactures need to scale back, don't keep dumping the Bigger and Better Club on us, the club is not going to hit any further for the "Average Golfer", the shafts are the most important and the second is the player and his swing, Golf is about adjusting i.e. getting better or getting older and this dictates change. they market you that that product is going to make you better, go to club fitter and find what's best for you and you will keep your clubs longer and save money.
People need to resist these expensive irons, promising what exactly? It's a lump of iron at the end of a stick ffs. No new developments make any difference do they? It's all a marketing con, and designed to make you think your old irons are obselete.
When you show the 2 clubs together, angle the back of the clubs so we can see which is which. Also show where each shot ended up from each club so we can see the difference from each club. As a viewer you do not show us a clear distinction between the different clubs.
I played the i500’s for 1 year and grew to hate them. The lofts are too strong, the sound was bad. Great shots, mediocre shots, bad shots. The S56 irons in my opinion were the best irons that Ping ever made until the Blueprint irons. Right now, I’m testing several irons on the golf course (Pxg Gen 4, Titleist i100s,) very close but I give the nod to the t100s. They feel sensational, great distance. But you have to get these irons in extra stiff to appreciate the magnificent tight dispersion, height, drop & stop. If you’re playing a skins game, you want the t100s in your bag. Period. Play regular shafts you don’t improve, play stiff shafts you don’t improve, extra stiff only. Period. Take dead aim and x100 or project x 7.0 will lower your scores.
