As always a well done video. I definitely appreciate your candor and like your approach to your club evaluation. My club pro is holding a trade-in set I500's for me to test as soon as my collar bone fully heals. I am really looking forward to trying them. As I don't wear my hearing aids when playing golf, the sound coming off the face will be something that will not affect my decision. I agree with Paul that nothing sounds as good or in my opinion feels like a Mizuno forged iron. Keep up the great work Andy!

Just purchased the 525’s. I’m also all about the acoustics and coming off Callaway Epics, the ping 525’s just felt great and sound for me was absolutely perfect. Gained 8 yards as well. Looking forward to the new season!

I have had the i500 for 4 years ... I have just tested the i525 (same shaft) & ther i525 had a higher apex, a small amount faster ball speed & a wee bit longher BUT more importantly the dispertion was 1/2 of the i500... So I have placed my order for the i525... really looking forward to it

Have used a set of I500’s for almost 2 years now. Like them a lot. Noise really didn’t bother me, but thought the Pitch and Gap sometimes were a little hot around the greens. Got Gap thru 58 from another vendor and kept the wedge. Will start exploring new irons this year. Don’t feel the comparisons to the I525 are enough to justify the cost.

Don't forget about the i59 if sound and feel are that important to you. They will check both those boxes and performance is constant.

I have had the PING I500 for 2 years now and I love them. The sound doesn't affect me and on solid hits, the ball flies. But, like any other golfer, I look to maintain my distance as time sets in. I always wondered if a polymer could be added into the cavity to lessen any sound but also improve launch and distance, I guess like a corked baseball bat, but in a legal way. I will try the I525 to see if they can deliver, but I may bend the I500s to the power spec, but I can't afford the time to ship them back to Ping.

I just got fitted for i525 coming off 14 year old Mizuno MX300s so if I divide the price by 14 I don't mind paying that much. I also don't care much about sound, but found the feel quite soft and therefore attractive compared to the non-Mizuno's I was trying out. I mean nothing compares to hitting a fully forged Mizuno in the sweetspot, but I really had to admit I don't do that often enough, so modern day forgiveness in these types of irons (and the increased distance now I start losing some swing speed at 50+) is very welcome.
Still funny to see that in 2009 the MX300 were branded as a game improvement club, while the clubhead size, loft and design these days would practically make it a player's cavity.

Mizuno Pro 225 combo with 223 would be money better spent if you care at all about feel and sound. Ping seems way behind the tech curve regarding acoustic engineering aside from the i210. I will hit the i59, i500 and i525 in a fitting bay at my club just to see if there is any significant difference. For the $$$ even PXG 0311P Gen 3 with reduced pricing is a much better feeling and sounding iron. Your comparison video sound seemed like firecrackers going off! THANKS FOR AN HONEST REVIEW AS ALWAYS !

i doubt if there is enough difference between these very good PING irons to change to i525s from my current set of i500s. Besides, mine are in very good condition even though I've had them in the bag for nearly three years. Furthermore, the lower trajectory of the i500s tends to suit my game in its current state. On the other hand, I have been looking at a set of PING i59s but they are even more expensive than my i500s. We'll see.

Great video. I've owned i500s since they were first released and like them very much - although I have never been crazy about the sound (feel?). This weekend I tried out the i525 7 iron vs my i500 7 iron for the best part of an hour on the range. Both had identical shafts. Like you, I came to the view the i525s sounded a little better but this was more on my bad strikes. In terms of performance, in a day of what was really solid ball striking wise (for me), I could find no meaningful difference in terms of distance, height, or forgiveness between the i500 and i525 7 iron. Of course I wanted a new toy so I've gone ahead and ordered a set.

I game the i500s currently. On thin hits they feel and sound pretty sketchy. And the bottom of the face is cold. I have trouble with distance control with higher face hits getting the trampoline effect and thin hits being dead. I believe the i525 has added some tungsten low in the toe to try and expand the sweet spot and add distance to thin shots. I've decided to move on to Mizuno Pro 225s which have much better feel and sound and more consistent distances on small mishits like being a groove or two thin. I also felt the P790 were more consistent than the Ping i500's. But didn't match the Mizuno Pro feel.

@@JohnnyDSRgoing to have to disagree there. If both of them feel good when you hit near the center. The HMBs definitely let you know when you hit it low (lots of vibration) unlike the i525s.

I have had the i500 for nearly 3 years. Am about to swap into a set of Orka's.
Have always found d the i500's hard to get high in the air as my swing speed isn't quick enough to generate spin. I500 7 iron span at 4000, so the ball gets so far then just drops out of the air.

Not seeing anything that would warrant me changing from my i210s. In fact the 5i in the i525 might go a bit too far for me. I think that Andy's theory that the extra mass at the bottom probably contributes to a bit extra ball speed and peak height.
I do wonder whether the i210s will see a replacement later this year from Ping

Seemingly as with all manufacturers now they’re replacing clubs across the board so quickly that given the parameters that they have to work within there’s no way that they’re going to achieve any noticeable improvement to your game.
Andy did you maybe think of trying the i500 with the shaft that’s in the new i525 for a more direct comparison. Only way in this current climate that you’re going to see any noticeable improvement is if you’re changing out of anything that’s over maybe four years old.
Maybe the wider sole you’ve gained is from the fry ups in the kitted out van 😂😂

But I realize people buy new irons every year. I agree the Hollow sound is not appealing but it’s not horrible. If the performance is there, that is what is important.
