    Club head speed isn’t measured, it’s calculated using the dummy value of 1.45 smash factor from your ball speed. Ball speed is higher on the Sim irons because of the lower loft which is the equivalent of 1+ club longer than the PINGs. Irons are about consistent carry and tight dispersion, which the pings seemed to exceed your current set. Long irons could be a problem, but you probably need hybrids or fairway woods anyway if you speed is an issue.

    I'd say these clubs can be gamed by just about anyone, assuming they get fitted with a shaft that's proper for them. This review hit on the highlights of this club very well; and that's the fact that they're lower lofted (meaning shorter carry distances), but with much better dispersion patterns. But that's the thing with the golf world now, it's not about consistency it's about what club hits it further no matter what. This is a club that helps to make shots repeatable, and that's the true key to good golf. But the price tag on these beauties is outrageous.

    Gotta compare same lofts my friend, or use 'power spec' i59s to a similar club. This comparison is a bit strange. Additionally, more grooves equal more spin. So it's not going to go as far, but will be much more consistent. I have these irons. Moved from P790s. Haven't looked back since. 9 handicap.

  • @kellyminette2347

    I would be cautious of this simulator, it doesn't track both club head and ball speed. Club head speed probably less on the i59 because ball speed is lower on the higher lofted club (i59). The sim assumes a smash of 1.45 and applies it to every shot. Good information though, I like the dispersion of the i59, makes me think I can actually play it. I am currently an 8.0 and used to play about a 3.

    Very good review on these irons, they look beautiful! There are so many iron sets now it’s hard to make a decision. But I must admit I am more for the traditional lofts when it comes to new iron sets, makes it more consistent for me. Keep up the great reviews!

    Gabe, I think you needed to compare apples to apples here.... The Sim 7 iron has a 28.5 degree loft where the Ping I59 7 iron has 37 degree loft, that's a full club almost 2 clubs in difference.

    The shaft lengths between the i59 and SIM2 irons are also different, which accounts for increased club head speed. i59 7i length is 37" and SIM2 7i is 37.25". Also swing weight of SIM2 irons might be 1 lower with stock spec, again potentially giving a touch more clubhead speed

    Love those looks but I had to split the difference, the iblade/59 just didnt have a big enough sweet spot. The Sim2/Apex etc all are way to low spin for me, Im a low left (baseball dude) and on AZ hard greens I need height and spin, so I have a set of Ping i210s w stiff NS pro shafts, those were higher and spun more, the # on the bottom doesnt matter to me, greenies do. ;0) PS dispersion circle was smallest F/B and L/R than all others tried, sold!

    Your SIM 2 is just silly with loft….a 28.5 degree 7 iron that spins 4500 rpm?! These companies are doing nothing more than hurting high handicap golfers with jacking lofts trying to claim distance numbers. But it hurts the golfer because they never have chance in the world holding greens. You should be playing these Ping irons on just the launch angle, descent angle and back spin numbers alone. You seem to be falling into the bottom number ego trap that a lot of people do.

    • @LetsPlayThru
      @LetsPlayThru  3 года назад +1

      It could be argued that playing a club because it has “traditional” lofts is an ego trap. The new tech is flying just as high and still holding greens well and it’s a lot easier for most people to get a 7 or 8 iron up in the air than a 5 or 6. I think that’s just smart golf.

    • @evilgti2000
      @evilgti2000 3 года назад +3

      @@LetsPlayThru But the new tech isn’t launching measurably higher and is certainly not maintaining spin rates is the whole point. Your 7 iron is lofted like a 5.5 iron and is spinning closer to a 4 iron. I would argue people with slower swing speeds would benefit more from play traditional lofts in irons and the fill in the bottom gaps of the bag with hybrids. At least the slower swing speed guys would be able to maintain more reasonable spin rates. But thinking your 7 iron spinning at 4500 with that decent angle holds well is just not reasonable. I could only imagine what it would be like trying to hold a green with a 21 degree 5 iron lol.

    The way the term forged gets tossed around these days is a joke, it's even being applied to the face on certain titanium drivers. I'm old school, for me blades and CB's using a single grade of carbon steel like 1020/1025 are forged, I don't consider multi material construction iron heads to be forged, even if a portion of the head is made of carbon steel. Just my personal view, for me the i59s, P790s, and X5s aren't forged.
