I thought I knew good whiskey. Then I decided I wanted something with more barrel flavor. I saw the double oaked at the store and thought "this is definitely it." I bought it on a whim and it immediately became my favorite. Absolutely worth the price
I love it, it taste so rich and dark.
Same. I was looking for a bottle for a year. Finally visited some family after 20 years and seen it in there liqueur store. It's awesome. Holdsb up great with some ice.
But the question is: is it better than 1910? No, sorry.
Was hesitant to buy the Double Oak as I prefer high proof bourbon, but this review convinced me to give it a try, not disappointed, it’s a great change & an easy pour for the weekdays
Thanks for making my day, lol. I've always took the stance that I'm a student of the game. People don't care to listen. I'm Kobe. Studying, Mimicking, and Obsessing over MJ's game. I'll never be QUITE as good...but it wont stop me from trying.
😂🤣 That's great. Had to call you out also failed while doing so but it's all in good fun hahahaha. Good times buddy!!
The lightly toasted barrels are meant to bring forward most of the wood sugars, and if the whiskey is only in the second barrel for 12 months or less it will retain a large portion of those wood sugars, this creating a much sweeter almost syrupy whiskey. However when you intensely char a barrel you burn off a lot of those wood sugars leaving the wood tannins to be pulled out of the barrel and thus pulling a much more oaky almost campfire smoke flavor out of the barrel. On a heavily charred barrel almost no amount of time will add much sweetness outside of what was retained from the first barrel as the wood sugars aren’t really there in any noticeable quantities (generally speaking) to actually have an effect on the whiskey
Ain’t nobody here tryna read a whole essay Thomas
@@ooooa9046 🤷🏻♂️ then don’t friend, obviously at least 9 people were willing to read it. Sorry long paragraphs are such a struggle bus for ya friend. I’ll keep this short so as not to get too long winded and hurt your noggin. The time you took to reply and be a snarky tit, you could have just read it.
@@thomasredden4263 actually it was worth my time just to be called a snarky tit... I love it. Learned something new and useful, so thank you.
😅
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is $39.99 at LA/OC Total Wines and at that price it’s a no brainer for me. Great pour. 🥃
I picked up some too in the LA area just yesterday and it is so good.
Woodford double oaked has been the favorite I keep coming back to since I did a tour and tasting at Woodford in August 2019. Pairing with that bourbon ball was amazing! 😍
Love Double Oak. Also love that it’s easy to find. A buddy of mine just told me to grab a bottle of 1910, so I sought out this video for comparison. Thanks for the review guys
I bought the Woodford DO a few weeks ago, and I really like it. A lot!
then I bought an Old Forester 1910... and I think I found my first bourbon love. but I've only really been serious with bourbon for 6 weeks LOL
It's my favorite bourbon and I've been drinking bourbon for many years... but it's all preference.
I'm fairly new to Bourbon as well... I love the Double Oaked ... I haven't had the 1910 yet but it's on my list. I have tried the OF Statesman and I love that one... Sweet and Fruity and Low Proof.... I'm guessing 1910 will be in my wheelhouse.
Amazing how far you both evolved on 1910 from your original 1910 review.
Here it is: ruclips.net/video/5IIraEZt-N4/видео.html
Sean in particular did not like it...
I said this and they commented they always loved it lol
Old Forester anything and Woodford anything, you can’t go wrong
It’s the same company
Couldn't help myself. Had to go buy eggs and happens to the corner store and bought the 1910. Love at first sip!
Accidently bought double oaked WR 5 months ago and it was an instant hit for me. Looking forward to trying the 1910!
Woodford was my gateway as well. About 3 years ago I got 6 bottles of Double Double. If you asked me last week what I thought of it I wouldn't have been able to tell you. Well, last week I moved and found that I had 2 and a 1/2 bottles still. Now there's a 1/2 a bottle… I do not remember it being as amazing as it has been over the last week. I've got to get back to Kentucky and get more immediately!
Woodford double oak was my gateway into drinking whiskey neat. I was into old fashioneds prior. One day, at a restaurant that had half off alcohol for lunch (amazing and terrible promo at the same time), and i tried double oak neat.
That first sip changed my life. I was like look at me drinking like I know what I'm doing. In that moment I realized I had just become a man. It was my real life coming of age story. Woodford Double Oak... I am a man because of you.
Now since my Woodford Double O experience seven years have passed. I literally have discovered old forester because of the Bourbon Junkies and...I love all of their stuff.
I did a 1910-1920 comparison in my den by myself and realized two things. One drinking alone is drastically underrated if not over done and two 1910 is now my favorite go to. Back to 1910 from 1920 it tasted like candy corn to me, and I did a little dance that only me and my four walls were privy to see.
Woodford DO was also one of my first bourbons I really enjoyed neat
Chill out bro
@@MrCool144 I wrote this two years ago and re-read it. @MrCool144 you can't tell that I'm kidding around? Woodford double oak is what got me into bourbon. Everything else was just for a laugh by way of dramatization sir.
@@JoeS-NY just tell me to eff off. You don’t owe me an explanation
@@MrCool144 lol. Nah it's all good.
I love the 1910. It blows my mind when people try to compare it to 1920, they’re both great in their own different way.
Absolutely.
I meant to buy the 1920 a while back , but accidentally picked up the 1910 (similar colored ribbon!). Definitely like the 1910 better, which is against what I hear and see on the web. I won't buy 1920 again, but will buy 1910, fer sure. Also, will buy the rye, which is tasty neat.
@@robertlandress4641 These days, it seems to be all about the proof, and 1920 is 115 while the 1910 is 93.
Funny how tastes differ. I checked my original ratings for 1910 and 1920. The 1920: A, Outstanding. The 1910: C+, Disappointing. I've not bought a second bottle of 1910, but 1920 is a staple.
@@booberry6715 As long as its not 80 proof, I'm okay. Always have a bottle of EWSiB around, and its only 86.6. I do have my share of high proof ones, but I'm more interested in taste, not alcohol level.
I’ve just really gotten into whiskey in the last couple months literally because of woodford double oaked that I bought on a whim.
Solid starting point that's for sure
Same!
I just discovered this a few months ago and I LOVE this juice! Boozy maple syrup is a great description!
I have been primarily a Scotch drinker for many years but always respected a good Bourbon. When flying to Alaska this past August, Alaska Airlines used Woodford Reserve as their whiskey of choice. I found it quite impressive, and couldn't help but indulge while traveling. I couldn't find the exact flavor after returning home, but I did find the Double Oaked and fell in love with it, and it is now my primary daily pour. I will have to try the Old Forester 1910 to see if I need to stock it in my bar. Thanks for the review fellas!
Woodford DO is still one of my favorite available drinks, cheers!
agree so much with your review. I finally got a bottle of 1910 and is better than D.O. I used double oak as a gate way for my friends, now they say it to sweet and simple, reserve it for only beginners. But costco had double oak on sale 32.99 when you buy two bottles, so for the price it gets alot better. Hard to find 1910. Happy nuptials to Sean and better half.
At my local Costo, WR Dbl Oak is going for $41. At that price it's a must buy.
I am insane for commenting 4 years later…
I mixed them yesterday after my sphere lost 10% of its mass with the Woodford in it.
Sipping for a few, I added the Old Forester.
Delicioso is the spelling I am going with.
This video may have been helpful in my search, or maybe not.
I plan a visit to the state in which I was born and would enjoy seeing your apparatus’s and such.
Looking for your owl whisky in Chicagolandish.
Some handsome young man sent me a sample of OF 1910. I really like it. I got a hint of burnt toasted marshmallow. Rock on! Best wishes Sean and Gabbie.
I get pissed when I spill a milliliter of bourbon and lose my mind when my keyboard gets thirsty and steals my drink while I sleep!
I'm drinking some for the first time while watching this and it's amazing how your tasting notes are almost completely identical to mine. So far I'm loving it.
So buttery, this review is making me want breakfast more than anything else right now.
They sell the Double Oaked at my local Total Wine for under $50, one of my favorites
Nice. Out here in the LA/OC & area it’s $39.99.
@@MichaelBSteeleAviation wow. It seems like California has some of the best prices on whiskey. Which is odd being how much everything else cost there.
@@Jbroker404 only on the mass produced bottles. The allocated bottles out here are insane.
We did a blind this weekend and the consensus was double oaked was the winner. We also had widow Jane 10, buffalo trace, stellum, bulleit 10 - nothing was bad but DO, WJ and BT were top 3
i was told about this whiskey from a guy at a bar that supposedly used to own a distillery. and he said he would put it up against any of the high end whiskeys. so i decided to try it, and it was really good. now i always keep a bottle around
Just got. My first bottle of double oaked recently and man it is good. I gotta make sure to get a 1910 before I finish it so I can side by side them
I’m with you on the 1910, everybody loves the 1920, and it’s great, but the nose on that 1910…. I can just live there
WR Double Oaked and 1792 Small batch are my favorite bourbons of all time
Great video! Just blinded a Double oak store pick (from NJ; I have had the regular Double Oak as well), and 1910. I love both but the 1910 wins hands down. One of the best values in bourbon. Until you get to 1920…
BOTH of these have been my go-to's for a good long time now. You guys seem to match my flavor profile and I dig the stacking fun - earned that sub.
Picked up a bottle of the Woodford DO at Costco last week for $37 (Brown-Forman promo). The butter, the maple, the delicious mocha char finish. OMG, love at first sip.
Finally got around to picking up a bottle of Woodford Double Oak. I've always passed on it. Happy I have it a try. It's quite good. I do prefer OF 1910, but Woodford is a nice drink. I get straight up French toast covered in maple syrup on the nose and the palette isn't far off. It's just a little bit thin and doesn't carry like 1910. It also has just a little hint of a sort of Vodka like alcohol burn. Not as well rounded as 1910.
Origin Whiskey. Thanks for the repeatable term. After decades of the usual array of Jack's, Jim's and Makers out there, this showed me what Whiskey could and should be. I have plenty of great things on my shelf now but that Double Oaked is always there for old times sake. Thanks for the memories
Terry Kost I was a huge four roses smallbatch select fan until I tasted the double Oaked.. wow 🤩
Grabbed this for $40 last week and figured I’d grab my first WR, Now I can’t wait to open it!
Absolute steal at $40!
$39.99 at Big Red Indiana. Now if I can start seeing those Old Foresters for less than $60-70 I’ll be happy. 1920 melts me! Haven’t grabbed 1910 yet
@@mcwillda814 1920 is awesome!!! Havent tried 1910, heard it wasnt as appealing
1910? It's a freaking unicorn in Ohio. Good get!
Just bought 5 bottles of 1910. Bought every bottle from my local store. Haven’t seen it in a few months so I had to take advantage of it! Best drink ever
I tried this, yesterday, and I loved it.
Woodford double oaked is my favorite!
Same
They are both the best too drink straight up without ice . Four Roses single makes the best lemon drop u will ever have.
I just love that you don’t have to hunt for it and it’s effin good
Love the Old Forester, 1910 myself, I don't think I've tried the Woodford double oak so I'll likely snag me a bottle!
Coffee, chocolate, toast, ice cream, butter, vanilla, and waffles.
I normally don’t spend more than $30 for a bottle of whiskey. I’ll usually pop for gentlemen jack or a good wild turkey. I always wanted to try this whiskey and I finally got me a bottle over the weekend. Wow, incredibly smooth in my opinion, I like mine on the rocks so it’s even smoother as you sip, but drinking it neat is also very enjoyable.
This was the bottle that really got me going with Whiskey. I have other bottles I prefer now but always keep this one and likely always will.
Store picks of this stuff is amazing.
I get butter, maple, oak, caramel, cinnamon, black pepper and bbq sauce from this. Its a good bottle for sure. Its a permanent part of my lineup.
WR DO is like having a dessert. It's chocolate bread and butter pudding in a glass. Luxurious. Top three bourbon for me.
1910 is my favorite and double oaked is a close second for bourbon that isn't cask strength. They both taste so much different than anything else. I get a banana bread funk on both. So good.
I bought a bottle of this to try out.
Its definitely mild, tasty and can be enjoyed longer without any need to check your truck for big dents in the morning.
What is up boys. Bought the W.R. Double Oaked on your recommendation. My greatest cigar pairing is the Double Oaked with a Cohiba Red Dot. Notes of coffee and chocolate. Amazing pairing! A must try. Tried the same Cohiba with the O.F 1910 and not as good. It was bitter. Thanks for this video!
I was a bourbon and stogg guy in the beginning with Bookers and FRSB as my go to's.. but then no matter how many times I go back to it.. bourbon is not the best to pair with stogg. I suggest an 18+ year old Rum like Flor De Cana 18 or upping it ..Ron Zacapa 23.. but my fave's are the XO's Ron Zacapa and the Plantation XO 20th with a Habano or Cameroon wrapper.. mmm.. the Oliva V series.. Cheers
WRDO paired with a Ramon Allones Specially Select might even be a better pairing
Two of my favorite whiskies.
I have poured the double oaked over vanilla ice cream and it is delicious. And I agree, 1910 drinks like it's a higher proof. Love 'em both but I would give 1910 the win if I could only have one.
Richard Iandoli Thank you for sharing the most unbelievable idea of the day. I am definitely try that tonight
It must be good. My brother had some and didn’t share any of it.
Literally i have a hard time not drinking most of the 1910 bottle
Woodford Double Oaked is fantastic! Definitely my go to bourbon.
....My introduction to bourbon was Stagg Jr.. Now I really like the high proof stuff. I do have a Double Oak and it is one of my favorites. The OF 1920 is in my top ten. I’ve yet to try the 1910. I will find some tomorrow if not today.
1910 is a nice sweet dessert whiskey. Do you dabble into the Elijah Craig barrel proof? Another solid barrel proof a little easier to find than stagg
2 years ago it was a C+ but now he's crushing bottles.. Air will give the 1910 love.. just as it does with the WRDB.. they are not all that good on first open.. drink 1/2 and let them rest for 3 months and they are both lovely.. out the gate not so much.. for the hype.. Michter's bourbon out the gate is lovely.. if you are looking for that..
Here in central Florida old forester 1910 is 65.99 vs DO 49.99
Picked this bottle up today at Total wine for $40 @ total wine. Cant wait to compare it to 1910 and EC-Toasted Barrell
Let us know how it pans out for you!
The lighting and camera framing of your videos has improved so dramatically over that last couple of years. Well done.
Thank you!
I own both and I love them both equally.
Agreed, I like the 1910 a lot more than the WR store pick I had this past year. For the same price it's a no-brainer, however, the 1910 is hard to find in NC. Also I don't really take issue with these brands being called bourbon since they still fit the legal definition of aging in new charred oak, as long as they're transparent it's all good with me. We need more finished American whiskeys on the market.
Getting into the 2021 holidays and I can't find OF 1910 anywhere but the WR 2xOak is just finding itself on the shelves. Guess this will be the one to accompany the Turkey dinner.
Just picked up a bottle. Its fantastic! I love the spicy maple oak flavor Im getting from it.
It's for sure a good step up from regular Woodford.
MIB II! or is this III? Stay safe everyone - drink more whiskey! Cheers
I bought the regular old forester rye. Its ok. It definitely has a camp fire chard flavor. Iam not crazy about it. But i would like to try some of there other stuff but its so expensive its risky. Honestly one of the best whiskeys i have had in a while is a $16 bottle. It's the Even Williams barreled in bond. Its crazy! How good that bottle is for the price. I used to think Even Williams was cheap rot gut whiskey. But I seen a blind taste test where 3 people did the test between like 50 bottles. The Even Williams barreled in bond finished 1st in 2 of there test and second in another. So I decided to try it. Iam so glad I did. This stuff is absolutely amazing. It taste like a $100 bottle.
Woodford Reserve Double Oak $39.99 at Total Wine & More. They have the best prices that beat everyone. Always keep this one stocked up.
DO at Total Wine goes for 44.95 here in Colorado, it's my go-to.
Just so happens, I am watching this on a Monday...eight months later
I bought a liter bottle of WR DO when we were in St. Maarten thinking I got a great deal. After trying it, I think I got gypped and gave it to a neighbor.
3:39 damn... I've passed up on buying it so many times but this statement about the chocolate covered espresso beans makes me think I need to pick one up on the way home today.
I love the 1910. I get toasted marshmallow when I drink it.
100%
Brown Foreman is also awesome!
I taste chocolate and cherries. I love this bourbon
Picked up a bottle for 42 today!!
I recently got a bottle of Woodford Double, and it's borderline undrinkable. It's almost okay on the front end, but the finish is like licking a 2x4; basically puréed sawdust. I had the aftertaste on my palate for hours afterward (and not in a good way). I'll have to use it as a mixer to salvage the bottle.
AVI8ER😂 Dude, fella-- sounds like my nxt. pickup-- probably Woodfords best 🍾 Thnx, Junkies 4 the 🎮 vids and 🤪 craziness
Hell yeah, cousin bought me a bottle of the double oaked and I love him for it. Go get one.
Two of my favorites 💯
Shawn and Dan?
Who doesn’t love well spiced banana bread with dark chocolate and salted caramel
I have both right now, fairly similar, like both , prefer the 1910.. like you said, a lot more going on
Did a blind comparo against these two tonight. I guessed them correctly and I preferred the Woodford. My Woodford has a much better nose than my 1910. The 1910 is oily-er, a bit soother, but I like the sweeter brightness of the Woodford. I'm surprised, because I thought I'd prefer the OF.
Bought me a WRDO today and it was $65. Can’t wait til I try it.
OF 1910 and WRDO have the same mash bill, barrel char, and entry proof. Afaik, all BF bourbons do. (Not JD though)
Got this as a store pick and its fantastic
Two of my top 10. 2 glugs are critical!
I can’t find either anywhere!!
I need to put the whiskey down and go to bed and quit comment on videos 🤣
The 1910 is better imo. I did however just find a nice double oak store pick.
Just revisiting the first of your videos I've ever watched, back in 2020 - the beginning stages of my "bourbon journey" (God, that sounds stupid:). Two years later, my two favorite bourbons are still Woodford Reserve Double-Oaked and Old Forester 1910.
The first batch of 1910 that sold out in 4 months was better than the second release I think. It transitioned more smoothly on the palate and the flavors were just more rounded. Definitely 1910>double oaked for me. Although double oaked was one of my gateway bourbons too.
Love them both but the 1910 is a few steps above. 1920 is my favorite and 1910 is a close second place.
Perhaps I have an odd/bad bottle but mine (2 months old) is very bitter to my palate. I see so many reviews with nothing but good said about it but based on what I have, I don't plan on getting another. Glad there are many options for different palates!
Just got a bottle of WR from Costco 😋 best $39 I ever spent
Why don’t we have a blind tasting video of all the “double oaked” bourbons? I need this video made guys!
Just picked up my second bottle of this at Target for $45.99. At $55, it is a 100% buy! At $46….dude.
Guys seriously!! No one starts a long pour above the glass. You place the bottle near the glass and then pull up as you pour it Into the glass ✌️
Those are two excellent choices
This is an under-the-radar good whisky.
Whereas the Woodford is breakfast with maple syrup, 1910, for me, is pure dessert - bananas foster drizzled in chocolate.
Watching all that good bourbon hit the table makes me tear up a bit.
They make more every day, trying to help them stock prices ya know
