I'm surprised none of them went to a drag radial or drag slick instead of mud tires. But I guess they're worried a really solid hook would break the drivetrain.
I guess they have to use the same set of tires for the whole competition, and since later they are going to drive a lot of miles on roads and then pull the sled in mud so slicks are not an option.

He's a tuner. And you can make fun all you want but that has been the most consistent truck in the comp.

tcv4 Except when that body style of truck was being made, Fiat didn't own Chrysler.
tcv4 Chrysler isn't technically owned by Fiat, they just have a controlling 51% stake in shares. So that means they can modify/greenlight their own projects with no opposition.

The terrible weight distribution of the load on that trailer is a serious hazard to these guys towing it.
The hard part here is pushing the power to the tires breaking point,because all these trucks would just blow the tires all the way down the track
These guys run the trucks way to rich, the black smoke pouring out of the pipes is raw diesel fuel. People put there injectors higher then what they should be to pour black smoke out of the pipe. I guess it looks like you are under load all the time or something. I think it just looks dumb. Might be just me.

I know they're not allowed to change tires or anything but Nitto and other companies make good large street tires that would last the whole event and get actual good traction on the drag. As long as they don't roast them then it would have worked better I think.

Jonny Oliveira Actually unburnt diesel (black smoke as you called it) is not that bad, it mostly contains a high level of Co2 and nitrogen, both of which are naturally in the air just not with the unburnt diesel. Smoking a cigarette is much worse than the "black smoke".

What colour are the diesel pumps in the US? In the UK it is Green for unleaded petrol and black for diesel.
We used to have red as well for leaded petrol.
black is for unleaded and green is for diesel here in the good ol corrupted USA

I have only seen green but they also have different nozzle sizes so dummies don't fill up with the wrong fuel.
in USA it up to the gas station!!! most the time all type of gasoline come out a black nozzle and diesel is green.... but common to see all colors.... like BP will use green for regular a lot of the time and have two green handles for the pump. Sunoco use black for gas like normal (even for race gas if it has it's own pump). most the time for there diesel the whole thing is red (by itself) but it's odd to see diesel at a Sunoco( and if you see red at the pump with multi numbers/pumps most the time it's race fuel). so bottom line you must read the numbers on the pump.

lol isnt that what all motor sports are? gotta pay to play, but alot of it comes from the total package, you can dump $50k into a truck but that wont mean it will perform, every thing has to be setup right and work together. Alot of the time the lower hp trucks beat out the higher hp ones due to the over all set up being better.
This might seem like a stupid question but why is the smoke from the car so dark and black rather than grey
it's a diesel soot, because diesel is less refined than gasoline if there is an excess of diesel it tends to come out in soot, sort of like a campfire has soot and so does your chimney.

Can anyone explain why they out put so much black smoke. I understand that it is in burnt fuel, but is there anyone who knows the organic chemical combustion reaction?
Very few people actually know what chemicals are in diesel soot. People try to say it's less damaging than the fumes from Gasoline, but it's not. Diesel has less chemicals than Gasoline, but the chemicals that are in Diesel are much stronger than that in Gasoline. It's also that the black smoke, or soot, that diesels produce, carries all those chemicals too the ground, where it gets washed into our water supplies, kills fish, crops and other plants, which trickles down to larger mammals dying. I'm no environmentalist, tree-hugging hippy, but don't believe the bullshit story when someone says diesel is less harmful than gas because of 'less chemicals'. (Someone can take 5 arsnic pellets and survive, but one very tiny pill of cyanide will kill you within 8 seconds. Less doesn't mean better.)
Diesels run off pure compression and the amount of fuel determines how much power, so the more fuel the more power. The reason they smoke is because it is hard to have enough air in the Air/fuel mixture at 1000hp to balance out the fuel. They also have very large turbochargers and are running in very high altitude which doesn't help the whole smoke situation
they don't run catalytic converters to get more power , same happens in a normal diesel car
