Good job on the research and sharing your knowledge. I only recently discovered your channel. It's just what I've been looking for. I have a question for you, or anyone reading this:
Do you know what chemical properties change when basil is dried? It took me about 30 years to figure out what my problem was with so many pizza and pasta red sauces. I used to have vomiting and/or diarrhea after eating spaghetti or certain pizzas. I figured it was the tomato sauce, except I could eat ketchup without problems. I thought I had a tomato problem until one year I dried the remainder of the basil I grew and didn't turn into Pesto. The second I pulled the dried basil out of my car, (my solar drier, lol), I almost vomited. I recognized the feeling that smelling the dried basil gave me as the same as when I was younger and ate to much spaghetti with red sauce or Little Caesars Pizza. However I have no problem with basil pesto or anything else using fresh basil. Does anyone else recognize this problem?

Hey NinjaMagoo, Im soo glad you found my channel and have been enjoying it!
It's possible that the reaction you're experiencing could be due to the chemical changes that occur in basil during the drying process. While basil is generally considered safe to consume, some individuals may be sensitive to certain compounds that are present in higher concentrations in dried basil compared to fresh basil.
One such compound that could be involved is estragole, which is found in basil and is responsible for its characteristic aroma and flavor. During the drying process, the concentration of estragole may increase, potentially leading to a stronger odor or flavor that some individuals may find unpleasant or even triggering of symptoms like nausea or vomiting.
Additionally, other volatile compounds in basil may undergo changes during drying, which could contribute to the difference in sensory perception between fresh and dried basil.
It's worth noting that individual sensitivities and reactions to foods can vary widely, and what triggers symptoms in one person may not affect another person in the same way. If you suspect that dried basil is causing your symptoms, it may be best to avoid it and opt for fresh basil or basil pesto instead.
So just stick to fresh Basil from now on and try to grow it yourself for all your culinary needs and freeze in your freezer the fresh leaves and you can use them year around for your pestos and sauces. Hope that helps! 🌿

Awesome job and good info. This is perfect timing as I'm deciding which herbs I'm going to plant this year. Picked up a lot of seed ready to go.

Thanks Dad! Basil is really easy to water clone too and make a ton once you get one plant growing. I'll cut shoots off right at the growth node and stick them in water and about 10 days later, thet are growing roots and you can stick them in the ground. You can do this with almost all the green herbs, so you can save seed! Love you! 🌿

Just finished making my 15th oyya. I am using 4-in clay pots and seailing up one end and siliconin 2 pots together. The poorest clay adheres well with silicone. We're hoping it really saves water in case we have to pack it in?

Most interesting content which would be much more helpful if modality (what form of basil to use) with frequency and dosage were covered.
Also I really don't understand why managing regulating blood sugar and managing diabetes are two separate points? But heart health and preventing infection are one?

Im still getting better at organizing and writing my scripts to have better flow and cohesiveness. Im still relatively new at making youtube videos, but every video I try to make I feel I get a little better at it. Sorry if the organization of the videos points was confusing and disorganized for you.
on the topic on Modality, frequency and doses. You can have as much raw basil as you can handle to reap these health benefits, but if you want to delve into a more concentrated from of basil and its most active essential "Euginol." Here are some dosing recommendations.
Aromatherapy: (2-3 Times per Day) For inhalation or diffusion, you can add 3-5 drops of basil oil to a diffuser or a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam for respiratory benefits or to promote relaxation.
Topical Application: (1-3 Times per day) When applying basil oil topically, it's usually diluted with a carrier oil like coconut oil or sweet almond oil. A typical dilution ratio is around 1-2% (meaning 1-2 drops of basil oil per teaspoon of carrier oil). This can be applied to the skin for massage, to soothe sore muscles, or to help with skin conditions.
Internal Use: (1 Time per day) Basil oil can be used internally in very small amounts, but it's crucial to ensure that you're using a high-quality, food-grade oil specifically labeled for internal use. Typically, only 1-2 drops are added to a large quantity of food or beverage.
      Hope that helped EarthWyrm! 🌿

Do the medicinal effects only come from the edibles or can you use sweet basil essential oil?

Both are great, but Fresh basil and basil essential oil offer distinct medicinal benefits due to differences in their chemical compositions and modes of application:
      Fresh Basil:
Nutritional Content: Fresh basil contains vitamins (such as vitamin K and vitamin A), minerals (such as iron, calcium, and magnesium), and phytochemicals like flavonoids and polyphenols. These nutrients contribute to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, supporting overall health and immunity.
Digestive Health: Consuming fresh basil leaves may aid digestion by promoting the secretion of digestive enzymes and reducing gastrointestinal discomfort. It is often used in culinary applications and herbal teas for its digestive benefits.
Anti-inflammatory Effects: Fresh basil contains compounds like eugenol and rosmarinic acid, which have anti-inflammatory properties. Incorporating fresh basil into meals or consuming basil-infused beverages may help reduce inflammation in the body.
Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties: Fresh basil has natural antimicrobial properties that can help combat certain bacterial and fungal infections when consumed. It may support immune function and help fight off infections.
      Basil Essential Oil:
Concentrated Active Compounds: Basil essential oil is highly concentrated and contains potent active compounds, including eugenol, linalool, and methyl chavicol. These compounds contribute to its therapeutic properties, such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects.
Aromatherapy: Basil essential oil is commonly used in aromatherapy for its calming, uplifting, and stress-relieving effects. Inhaling the aroma of basil oil may help alleviate anxiety, mental fatigue, and promote relaxation.
Topical Applications: Basil essential oil can be diluted and applied topically to the skin for various purposes, including relieving muscle pain, reducing inflammation, and treating minor skin infections. Its antibacterial properties make it useful in natural skincare products.
Respiratory Support: Inhaling basil essential oil vapor may help alleviate respiratory symptoms like coughs, colds, and congestion due to its expectorant properties. It can be diffused or used in steam inhalation.
While both fresh basil and basil essential oil offer medicinal benefits, the choice between them depends on the specific health concerns and desired mode of application. Fresh basil is commonly consumed as part of a balanced diet and offers nutritional and digestive benefits, while basil essential oil is more concentrated and often used for aromatherapy, topical applications, and targeted therapeutic purposes. It's important to use basil essential oil with caution, diluting it properly and avoiding excessive use, especially in individuals with sensitive skin.
Hoped that helped answer your question! 🌿
