Welcome to Standing Stone Kennels! In this video we share 3 easy steps to training your dog using a clicker and an e-collar. We recommend using the clicker first to introduce the training techniques, then once your dog has mastered the command you can add in the e-collar on vibrate.

Place training so important. My GSP loves it and responds to the command easily. Really worked hard to extend the length of place command. Now when guest come into home Leo is sent to place and then released to greet guest at command. This is a must if visitors bring small children so that Leo’s puppy energy doesn’t overwhelm them.

I like the approach that you make with the dog and learn quite a bit so I can add to my repertoire on how to have my daughter to a place to stay

Loved watching the puppy work with lots of distractions! Years ago we belonged to a local Kennel Club and I showed a GSP in the obedience classes! (Not exactly the usual obedience breed you see!). Once we were in a giant metal building with PIGEONS flying in the top! We made it through our exercise fairly well. The judge chuckled and commented it was quite an accomplishment for the breed; but it also speaks to the value of eventually training a behavior in the midst of distractions. Nice videos.

Great video! Until I watched this video I've always dismissed "clicker" training as feel good hippie B.S. without ever taking the time to hear an explanation of it, always tuned out as soon as I heard the term "clicker training". First time I heard of it was some guy on TV our RUclips claiming he could talk to dolphins by using his clicker, so when I heard it associated with dog training I couldn't take it seriously. Your demonstration made logic of it. So you can say you taught this old dog a new trick! Thanks!

When starting the ecollar training, do you only use vibrate as the stimulus?

We usually recommend 4-5 months of age to begin as long as you have laid the proper foundation with obedience first.

      Football72 absolutely not to late.

Thanks for the quick response man, my husky is very loyal to me so I’m taking it upon myself (Iive withan older brother, older sister and mother) to turn him into a loyal companion. He’s a very energetic breed half lab/husky so I plan to start walking him twice a day and throw a ball around the field. Once his built up energy is gone I plan to begin the place training.

He also does this thing where he softly nibbles with his front teeth and I begin to think it’s becoming an issue. Any tips with this?

Football72 we have an online training community setup so that we can see a video of what he is doing! This will make helping much easier!

I think there’s a lot of science missing. Good intentions, but now we know better to know that we DO NOT need negative punishment or any positive punishment to get a behavior of any animal, including humans.
