Ethan is so right when he suggests you video your training sessions. I learned that what I thought I was doing was actually not what I was doing. Watching your own videos helps, you get better and so does your pup!
Darn I brought my 3/4 yellow lab home at 6 weeks and did not know to do the Lion King! He’s 9 wks now and almost too heavy for this grandma to lift high 😅. So thankful I found you guys!
I've had my 8 week GSP Puppy for 5 days now and tried this with his breakfast this morning. Excited to see improvement with his eye coordination receiving treats from me. Was glad to find a clicker app and to find this helpful video. Thank you so much for your help!
Great video! I have a 9 week old lab and your videos have been great! Clicker is charged and my lab knows sit, here, and kennel where he goes to the bed. Should I stick with these 3 things for now or should I be adding more things in? He's too young to walk so I'm wondering what to do next?
I teach sit stand down, here ( recall) heel position , light retrieves , place ( platform dog bed ) find your self a training program . Lardy, Freddy King , Evan Graham , Hillman
My puppy is half German short hair pointer and half German bulldog. Shes 12 weeks and 2 days old today! We have mastered the crate training and she keeps it clean and dry while I’m at work or over night. She eats right away after her morning potty, and again later in the day. It’s been just over a week that she has slept through the night. Wakes up 545-6am every morning. Just wondering what your thoughts are if it’s too late to do clicker training? I want her to grow up into a great well behaved dog who listens.
Its never to late for clicker training! We have tons of videos going over the basics of clicker training! We also have an online training course available that shows you step by step how to train your puppy from 8 weeks to a year old. It’s broken up into easy to follow lessons that can be completed by older puppies and dogs too! Check it out here: www.standingstonekennels.com/courses
Would you guys be willing to do a video about electronic collars? Reading online about different colors is very confusing. I’m not really sure where to begin.
I love watching the training videos; I really enjoy your training style and how positive and consistent you are. What treats are you giving the puppy? They look pretty small and given the amount that you give, I would imagine that you are able to purchase in large quantities.
She is adorable!! Love the little white tip on her tail! What made you both initially start using the clicker method and why has been the method you have stuck with as opposed to other methods?
One of the first things that we train our puppies to do after they have gotten the basics is when they are about to cross a street they are to sit and wait until they are told to cross.
I’m struggling because I have 3 standard poodle pups and I guess I need to start letting them out 1 at a time for training; 3 at a time is too much distraction!
Once we've charged the clicker, we begin teaching basics like recall, sit, whoa and kennel. Here's another video for reference: ruclips.net/video/MLl6Ej-fJhg/видео.html
Thanks for watching our videos! We know a dog is ready to move on from charging the clicker once the dog hears a click and will turn their head and gives us their attention!
By what age can you introduce them to fowl and gunshots? Fowl can probably be started a lot earlier (at least looking at birds and sniffing) but I’m worried about the gun shots and noise 🥲
I just bought 2 sister puppies (GSP) What would be a good way to get them both trained and ready to hunt together and also alone? They aren't old enough to train yet (6 weeks old) but whenever the time comes what's some good tips
Hello there! First off, your vids are great, very informative, I'm glad I found your channel. I'm bringing home my GSP in a little over a week. My question/concern is related to my work schedule. I work 5an-2pm, as an hour for travel time and I'm away 9 hours a day. It's that too long a time to be away from what will be an 8 well old puppy to start off? Also, where can I get one of those nifty clickers for meal training? Hope this question finds you. Thank you for doing what you do, you two are awesome! Best regards
In my opinion leaving a 8 week puppy alone for 9 hours is just too long. You might want to look into a puppy walker or service to help care for your puppy. Those clickers are generally available at a well equipped pet store. Having training my last two dogs using the clicker is really the only way to go until you get the hang of it you might feel like a fish out of water BUT once you master the technique you can not imagine using any other method.
@@vestafreyja thanks for your feedback, I'm just seeing this reply so I apologize for the late response. I figured as much, I have assistance from family to help with taking her out and give her some attention as well as food and potty breaks. Ordered clickers online, things are going well so far👍🏾
If we're talking about a really young dog, then we are either supervising play time or she's in her crate. This video might be helpful: ruclips.net/video/9GBKfu42TKY/видео.html
I've just gotten my 8wk old GSP. Would you recommend wwiting until he's a better eater before starting and really interested in the kibble? And if so, how Ling would you say is more ideal? Loved the Video and I plan to watch the rest as we move forward with his training!
What do you do when you are trying to clicker train your puppy (corgi) and he figures out come so fast that he stays by your side so you can’t say come cause he’s already right there. He does this in many aspects of training, always trying to outsmart me cause he hates training.
If you look back in their new puppy series with Thunder there's video that shows the first 24 hours with the new puppy and when they feed throughout the day. ruclips.net/video/LiJkxcceWak/видео.html
How do you get your puppy to be a good eater? My puppy doesn't seem to be too interested in his kibble. He does eat enough but I don't know if it is rewarding enough.
So my fam got two gsp puppies at 7 weeks(a girl and boy), they are around 10 weeks now and we are noticing that our male is playing very rough and is hurting the other female. How could we get this down so they are nicer during playing
@@allisonbasanese9015 we have them separate at night in crates, eating separately and they don’t really have anxiety when apart it just they are very excited and get carried away
I love coming back to these videos. My wife and I put a deposit down on a puppy 2 months ago. We had 1 person of the 8 of us who wanted black. So the liver female was bred to a black stud. The puppies were born yesterday. 9 of the 10 puppies were black. I found out some time after the deposit that black gsps are not considered “pure bred” by AKC and are subsequently barred from the show ring. I never had plans to show since we’re NAVHDA people, but it still frustrated me. Best of all the person who wanted a black puppy never put a deposit down and eventually backed out. Knowing her mother was black and understanding how genetics work I saw this coming a mile away. At first I was frustrated at the realization, then I wasnt. Luckily Shock, Rogue and Thunder had prepped me for one long before they were born. We even picked the name Summit, due to how dark it always seems to be when I make it to the tops of mountains, before our puppy was born knowing and hoping that all the puppies would be black 😁. With first pick and all the males being black, we can focus temperament and not color!
How early should you start teaching them their name? We’ve had our lab puppy for a week now and picked him up at 6.5 weeks. He’s from good hunting stock and doing well in his kennel so far. But he wants NOTHING to do with his name. We are trying kibble, a leash (he’s NOT a fan). Is he too little to know what’s going on?
The power of the clicker comes in it’s consistent nature. You can use verbal markers! We have multiple people here that often work dogs. Consistency is key!!
What an awesome pup Shock is! So excited for her future!
I have a puppy coming home in a few months - the first 2 seconds of this video is exactly what I was planning on doing first lol

I've been training labs since I was 14 and now raise Chesapeake bays. I still learn new tricks and tactics from yall. Good content thank you!
This is perfect timing! I'm picking up my puppy this Sunday!
Congrats! I'm picking mine up Saturday and I'm so stoked
Same! I’m picking up my pup this upcoming Monday
I'm waiting for a later litter so I can get first pick... :-(
Just took home my 7wk old English pointer and he’s definitely a headstrong little guy. These videos help a ton- thank you!
Just started training based on your video YESTERDAY with our beautiful new just about 8 week GSP "Piper". She's doing great! thank you!!!

It’s very good she is a hearty eater it will make your training life lots easier.
Agreed
My Weimaraner is doing great. Definitely gonna buy some products from the web site soon. Thanks for helping me train my puppy
I want her. So cute!
She is soooo cute!! 🥰
Is the clicker necessary? Does it just replace praising the dog so they associate the treat and clicker with whatever skill they are learning?

Good info to train our best friends!
Great contents! We are getting our first lab pup next month. Will def. be using your techniques. Cheers!

Great video and session, but I'm not quite sure what the clicker is for.
Just trying to instill a positive reward for the noise it makes since you’ll use it later on in training

Congratulation on your new puppy! We have a video that goes over that i will link it below!

Nice work, just wondering where you get a clicker?
I just got my 9 week old GSP and she's really nippy with my chihuahua. does anyone know I can get her to treat her gently for the future?
What purpose does the clicker present?
It marks the behavior we are looking for and lets the puppy know a reward is coming!
How do you handle the clicker and feeding with one hand? I have a handicapped hand that wouldn’t work in that matter.
I forgot to lion king my lab, I wonder if that's why he doesn't seem interested in retrieving 🤔
This is a good possibility..
Lol

@@mr.emickspresents You are welcome and I'm happy that you have figured it out with help from family members.
do u let her sniff around the house when shes inside or does she go in the crate ? how does this aspect work?
and if no they dont free roam the house while you follow them to keep an eye on things, when do you allow that and teach their boundaries ??

You have to create space between you and the dog, sounds like your sessions might just take a little longer and require a few distractions.
Can your retriever be an inside dog and still go out and fetch birds? I have a 11 week old I'm going to start training but can't leave hee outside
What kind of clicker do you use?
It is a box style. We have them at standingstonesupply.com
Awesome! Thank you.
How often do you give them water and how much as a puppy?

How much exercise should my puppy get daily?
How do you get your puppy to be a good eater? My puppy doesn't seem to be too interested in his kibble. He does eat enough but I don't know if it is rewarding enough.
We use the kibble for training, if he isn't motivated to work for his food then skip that meal and more than likely he will be ready to work.

We would minimize play all the time. Make it a special 10-15 minutes of the day only.
