Fun fact about ash’s snorlax, in every battle it is in that it loses it always takes one or two Pokémon down with it. That shows how great he is. When he is brought out he won’t be leaving empty handed
Ash's Snorlax is a beast. It's actually fitting, since many of it's battles took place in Jotho, at which time it was the best Pokemon in the OU tier competitively by a significant margin!
I like how after Pikachu's depressing losses in Unova, they just made it a freaking beast. It's taken out 2 megas, 2 pseudo legendaries in THE SAME BATTLE, went undefeated in an official battle in Alola until loosing to a MYTHICAL, then beat 2 legendaries in the league. Talk about a glow up.
@@WesTheMes84 it had literally the same backstory as infernape. Being abandoned by a trainer cos it failed them, and right after we just finished with infernape, so it's not that special anymore Pignite didn't even live up to the standard that Charizard and Infernape had set
@@eljordinio7647 they didnt really go much into it in the anime, it wasnt like infernape who was abandoned by ash's rival so the whole time it was building up infernape for that final battle vs your hero paul. Also it not evolving was just ash being dumb throughout unova as a whole, his team had promise but they werent trained enough.
What if instead of aipom coming to sinnoh with ash it could be snorunt and if snorunt was a female like Ambipom it could be a Froslass, I imagine snorunt being traded for buizel Imagine if dawn had a froslass for contests
I thought it was a really cool team member. Kind of a weird decision on the writers part to leave Torkoal and Glalie (the 2 specific ones on Ash's Hoenn team which he had for the shortest period of time) at Oak's lab and take everyone else with him to the Battle Frontier.
To be fair, Snivy more than anyone suffered from Ash's stupidity in Unova and just bad luck. Being placed against a flying type? A pair of fire types? Ash why are you doing this!? And then it had Cameron's Riolu beat but a last minute evolution screwed her over.
Yeah it's really bad. Snivy is one of my favourite pokemon Ash used in Unova and because of that I made it so every single Snivy I own is Female to mimic that. Ashes Snivy is also the reason I love the grass starter of Unova over the other 2. Snivy needs Justice damnit
Goes to show stats aren't everything. Donphan and Heracross are tied with a negative ratio when both have shown that they can really pull their weight, and Gliscor is way stronger than it was before it racked up most of its losses.
Indeed and Torterra’s case, aside from Paul, the dude was put against a gym leader he had a titanic type disadvantage, a frontier brain and an elite four and it still was able to hold its weight for a while.
@@mectainea5575 did not help that A. Ash did not teach torterra any ground type moves and B. He kept trying to have torterra fight like he was still a speedy little turtwig instead of a hulking Torterra XD
@@wind-styleragenshuriken1849 Torterra not knowing any ground moves has got to do with anime not being allowed to show moves like Magnitude and Earthquake. I'm using the Pokemon's available moveset from Gen 4.
@@wind-styleragenshuriken1849 Torterra not gaining access to Ground moves has to do with Ash and more to do with Ground moves similar to Eathquake basically getting permabanned from the anime. And you can't really completely blame Ash for the whole speed oriented thing since that's kind of his preference and it was basically stripped away when it evolved.
@@susear5939 Eh, I think the anime goes off the rule of "if the Pokemon can learn it somehow in game, they can learn it naturally in the anime". Take Pikachu and Volt Tackle for example. Volt Tackle is a move Pikachu gets only at the Pichu stage after breeding with a Light Ball, but there he goes, learning it midway through Battle Frontier.
@@Fleetwayslash7pikachu had a sickness or smth in the beginning of that series and couldnt use any of his electrics moves and couldnt use iron tail so it was basically nerfed to a normal rat type w somewat decent speed 💀
In Torterras defence.. Tertwig was the MVP and finisher of battles till chimchar entered the squad.. And as the MVP focus switch from him, Grottle was used to show how pokemon change with evolution and as a result it went head on with many ace trainers namely frontier brain and elite Four members. Yes it didn't win as a torterra but most of the battle torterra participated was to show how strong the opponent mons are so that ash can plan ahead while using the next mon.
Yeah it really sucked how it went from a team ace to a jobber, but I think even if it didn't perform fantastically near the end, it still put in lots of work as Turtwig to make up for it.
Yeah torterra isn't week yeah all of it's foes were all goat trainers, and in all of them it did really good. I mean it got one shooted by an ice punch but it's ice punch.
Another point to make is even though Ash’s Pokémon still lost battles against specific Pokémon a lot of those battle were 3 on 3s or 6 on 6s so in battles like those you can say that as long as Ash and his team win the overall match it slightly redeems those Pokémon’s losses at least in my book
@@eljordinio7647 You cant expect in a 6v6 battle for all of your pokemon to survive. So I personally wouldnt count those losses as long as the Pokemon took 1 or more opponents down.
Best win rate =/= best team. You'd also need to take into account the number of battles they had and the strength of the opponents they fought, the latter of which is extremely difficult to quantitatively measure.

Snivy was really hyped up, and its a shame she didn’t get more time to shine. Same goes for Oshawott too. I did like the concept of rotating teams, though.
Snivy had to fight a flying type, two fire types, and got wrecked after a Riolu evolved mid-battle. Snivy got put in a lot of unfortunate situations and was never given the chance to evolve. Maybe if Trip had a different starter Pokemon, Snivy would get that chance.
I am surprised Snivy didn’t make the Overrated Pokemon video since she was notable for getting gassed up canonically by the show and failing to deliver. Though as the other guy states it didn’t help that often when Ash did bring her out, the opponents’ had a big advantage. Not that it stopped Trip’s Serperior from decimating Bug and Fire types. Snivy really shoulda evolved to match Trip’s Serperior….
@@dinoboyuk2047Well the base level pokemon are much cuter and more marketable to children so that’s why ash in the anime must have the cute base level pokemon so that the children buy more plushies
The only unevolved starter whose win rate is not only impressive bit also feels justified cos of his ever positive and can do attitude. Plus he has the spirit of a fighter. Not like that rowlet who mostly sleeps
So currently in journeys Gengar : 6win and 6 losses 1 tie 50% Sirfetch: 5 wins and 4losses 56% Dracovish : 4 wins and 3 losses 57% Mr Mime: 1 win. 100% Pikachu : 17 wins and 3 losses 1 tie 83% Dragonite : 3 wins and 3 losses . 50% Lucario: 8 wins 3 losses and 2 ties. 64.29 win rate. This is so far. Just updated during battle with leon
The thing I always hated about the 'win rate' lists is that you can't really say "X is best, it's undefeated", because yeah, that's true, but it only fought two or three times. It's not easy to extrapolate or anything really, either, because you never know what challenges are there to face in the future, so you can't really just scale them. It's still fun to see, though.
It is the most fair way to do it, though. We can all say, for example, taking out a Dragonite is more impressive than beating a Skitty or something, but you can't really quantify stuff like that nearly as easily. I feel like wins+win rates is a fair way to do it, but the one caveat I think I'd want is some measure of how many wins something gets in a row. Because if Snorlax takes out 3 Pokemon and then loses then that probably did wear him down, right?
@@thecriticalghost4626 well pikachu almost always defeats team rocket so it boosts the amount of wins pikachu gets by a lot plus he battles team rocket in like half of the episodes so that's like another 500 wins
I feel pretty proud of my boy, Pikachu. After that embarrassing loss to a Snivy at the start of Black and White, he clearly wanted to redeem himself. Because not only did he bounce back later in Unova, he went on to kick so much ass in both XY(Z) and Sun and Moon.
pikachu in journey is so far so good and badass. so far ash's pikachu had a lot of win rates but had 3 loses i think? from bea and the rematch with bea and an awesome loss with our champ Leon. edit:oh and that random trainer that defeated him after he got a loss from bea
IKR people constantly hate on Pikachu (and Unovo) for his lost against Snivy but never look at how much of a powerhouse he was in Unovo after said loss.
The thing about ash's strongest pokemon having alot of losses is because usually they are tasked with battling the opponent's strongest pokemon also, so they tend to have a tougher matchups than the weaker members.
Yeah he explains that in the tier list video especially with torterra cause yeah it lost every battle as a torterra but look what it dealt with -The strongest sinnoh leader's electivire who had moves to counter torterra -An elite four's hippowdon which it ALMOST beat (kind've like how torkoal almost beat registeel) -Paul's broken drapion which is easily one of his best pokemon along with electivire ursaring and his own torterra
@@LegendaryCaptain I think win against volkner's electivire might be enough to saved this poor thing reputation..I think another reason people bashing torterra loses is because it's always lose to a pokemon that it's got type advantage against..

More like "Poorterra"
Bulbasaur was always my favorite of Ash's Pokemon. Glad to hear it got one of the best win rates, and has the second highest number of wins, only being outdone by Pikachu.
I can see why they did it, in that episode they showed training Fighting-type Pokémon required a different set of skills than other types. Primeape is more physical than the team Ash was primarily using. His team had Pokémon that shoot fire/water/electricity, but can't exactly take hits and when Pikachu tried to get physical against a Hitmonchan, it lost badly.
Such a detailed video! It sucks that Greninja didn’t have a high enough win rate to match Infernape, but Pikachu in Kalos really was an absolute beast! I mean, Pikachu defeated Mega Lucario!!
Conclusion from the video: in general, Ash's Grass-type Pokémon are often mistreated (more losses and few evolutions), whereas Fire-type Pokémon tend to be favoured (more victories and always evolve)
With water being often overshadowed in terms of battling. Only greninja, squirtle and hilariously corphish can be considered main fighters for ash Grass has rowlet, sceptile, bulbasaur, kinda bayleaf (best johto starter here) and somewhat snivy since it did have a good amount of fights Fire has the most big hitters. Charizard, infernape, incinaroar, pignite. With the lower end being quilava and talonflame who are okay, but not as prominent Only torkoal sucks in terms of ashs fire types
@@blitz4779 Oshawott and Buizel got a lot of battles too but they were mainly set out to be taken out by the opponent to show how strong they are and about corphish it's so weird to think how much it got used and how successful it was though to be fair the only three Ash hoenn pokemon that remained relevant through all of advanced were Sceptile, Swellow and Corphish. As for Totodile and Kingler Totodile is easily his least noteworthy starter nothing would've really changed if he didn't have it as for Kingler yeah it won most fights but it had the same fate of pokemon like tauros and that is barely used.
@@LegendaryCaptain glalie got some good wins in the hoenn league so he wasn't really shafted, more late then anything. He was shafted in the BF I agree on buizel since he didn't suck that much. But oshawatts last battle before Cameron was vs clay lol. I think yiu more described snivy Yeah kingler was underused and totodile was easily the worst johto starter
This honestly shows the one issue with Ash's Infernape. As great as its character arc is and for as badass as it is, the second he joined Ash's team the rest of Ash's Pokemon became overshadowed and some (Torterra) turned into utter jobbers so Infernape could look cool. I feel S&M did a better job with Pikachu being the ace, but still giving moments for Rowlet, Torracat and Lycanroc to be impressive enough in their own right.
Both XY and DP has this problem. As son as they got into their final forms/ joined the team, they got all the special treatment. Turtwig has a fairly high win rate before Infernape joined and became the finisher and the main point of focus for Ash. As soon as Greninja evolved, more if not all of the XYZ trailing episodes featured only Greninja. AG and SM were the only ones that balanced this out well enough.
@@Emobullymaguire The thing is that it made sense in DP because the main goal to show paul that infernape is a lot stronger than he thinks. While in xy, they just did it because they want to.
A part of me wants Infernape to travel with Ash again. The reason for it was because the unique way its ability Blaze was more intense than any other fire type starters had. The last time Ash saw Paul hinted he may go face Brandon again. Cynthia look from afar and thought to herself that those 2 will make it to the championship tournament one day. It may be the tournament Ash is in now in Pokemon Journey he will meet Paul again considering a flashback he had of facing Paul before. Paul was the best rival of Ash he ever had. I can't help but think it might lead to Ash meeting Brandon because in Diamond & Pearl Brandon was looking for Regigigas. Brandon might come to Galar to find Regidraco & Regieleki.
@@Emobullymaguire yeah they featured greninja but the other pokemon still did things in battles. Talonflame still did alot after greninja so did lalucha.
It's actually interesting that Greninja came up with so many losses due to the narrative arc of the Ash Greninja transformation. Needing to lose to Sawyer's Sceptile, Wulfric's Avalugg, Diantha's Gardivoir and Alain's Mega Charizard all to fuel the development of this form. Guess for as AWESOME as the battle bond is, it does come with some narrative implications that require failure for growth
The one thing that held Ash Greninja from being unstoppable: *plot.* I do actually think this was a good decision though. It really showed that while the Bond Phenomenon is strong, it takes time and work to master it.
@@castform7 I 100% agree. I think that's part of what made the form so appealing. Seeing Ash and Greninja have to bond, train together, suffer the sting of defeat and joys of victory. Heck that's why seeing him return would be cool. Giving him one last battle to show how strong they can be
@@castform7 and yet when it IS mastered, it doesn't come in clutch when it's needed the most. I'm not that annoyed with the fact that ash lost the Kalos league but there's no denying greninja SHOULD have won. I mean yeah Water Shuriken wasn't super effective thanks to Charizard X being part Dragon, but thanks to its gigantic size it still would have done a whole lot of damage. I mean it did take out Mega Sceptile despite it being quad resisted thanks to its massive size, so Mega Charizard X should also have fallen to it
@@SabeNo-rh7mb I agree. If they were gonna hype up the league that much, they should have just let him win. I mean Ash won in Alola but that didn't get quite as much hype. I'm just happy Ash's Oshawott got to the 40% mark. I feel like Oshawott got screwed over from not evolving in certain opportunities such as when Oshawott got over his fear of going underwater and winning the Scalchop tourney, but NOOOO. At least Ash FINALLY got a water type that evolved the region after and did super well.
Pikachu in SM is truly the best, he becomes one of the strongest champion ace in the series where Ash also become champion, rarely lose battles even though he face more powerful opponents.

Sceptile's low win rate makes sense it lost a lot before being fully evolved so Ash trained it to the max. All the losses as a Sceptile are understandable based on what it is up against
It had whole arcs about wanting to be stronger and trained really hard to do so which makes sense. When it lost as a Treeko especially it wanted to do better

I wish Talonflame and Hawlucha got to be battle finishers. They were clearly super strong Pokemon, usually not going down without getting some wins. Just sucks that they're seen as more mediocre cause of Pikachu and Greninja usually being the game enders. Also Fs to Goodra once again.
I really like Ash’s Boldore and Palpitoad. I wish they got used more, especially Palpitoad because my goodness he was AMAZING IMO. I think he’s the only Pokémon in the anime to use Sludge Wave, and OMG THAT LOOKED SO COOL!
You know,I thought about a way to make bold or look better-the only solution was to make it evolve into gigalith(maybe as an back-to-back exchange for trip’s gurduur)and give him on-site beef with conkledurr
I just remembered how difficult a capture Mankey was. It stole Ash's onigiri and when Ash threw a pokeball to capture it, Mankey threw the food at the ball so that the food was captured instead. Shoulda kept this punk on his team
Gliscor being at the bottom DOES hurt...but I think that has more to do with the fact that most of his battles came against quality opponents. Drapion WOULD'VE ultimately led to Ash's defeat had Gliscor not won. I'm glad you brought up the 'Tough Matches', as the same argument could be made for Torterra, Sinnoh Pikachu, and Pignite
That’s true. As much as it may hurt to see some of our favorite moms have lower win rates than we thought, at least they all wen tour like champs against strong opponents, and got wins against absolute Titans.
Another point for Gliscor was that it honestly put up a solid fight against Paul's torterra in lake acuity. I'm also going to vouch for other mons in lower win rates Heracross: this thing got knocked out by Gary's blastoise AFTER taking a bunch of fire moves from magmar and STILL managing to survive. Also it landed a megahorn on darkrai before being taken out Snivy: it was constantly put against opponents with a huge disadvantage Torterra: when it became torrerra it only fought Berthas Hippowdon (almost won btw) Volkners electivire (who had ice punch to counter) and Paul's broken Drapion
Ik tbh sinnoh just had the best battles i have watched to date.(I havent finished x and y). Ash was playing those battles really smart, with type matchups and terrain usage and on top of that his team was cracked even without evolving gibble.

Also as a Sceptile it has only lost to legendary pokemon, also keep in mind Sceptile didn't get to battle as much as Treecko and Grovyle. If Grovyle evolved earlier like before the Hoenn league, I think it would be fair to say Sceptile would have gotten a lot more wins. If Ash brings it back in Journeys's I think it would be fair to say it would get more wins. Now outside of Sceptile for a bit. It is clear a lot of the pokemon on this list are lucky to be as high as they are because they have not had many battles.
Yeah but at the same time... Look Snorlax... A lot of wins and little losses. Pretty impressive if you think so and the same with Bulbasaur. Lots of wins on comparasson with the losses
I had the fear that sceptile might end up being low on the list he was higher than I expected but still it's sad to see his win percentage he lost quite a bit when he was a treeko, grovyle but at least he became a beast as a sceptile.

Sceptile's low win rate makes sense it lost a lot before being fully evolved so Ash trained it to the max. All the losses as a Sceptile are understandable based on what it is up against

Heracross: this thing got knocked out by Gary's blastoise AFTER taking a bunch of fire moves from magmar and STILL managing to survive. Also it landed a megahorn on darkrai before being taken out
Snivy: it was constantly put against opponents with a huge disadvantage
Torterra: when it became torrerra it only fought Berthas Hippowdon (almost won btw) Volkners electivire (who had ice punch to counter) and Paul's broken Drapion

Most players have fully evolved teams by the time they've finished a playthrough, it's time the anime prioritised it as much as it ought to be. You think even half those mons would be as good as they are without being fully evolved? Not on their lives
I kinda think Shou should be in jail for LITERALLY ALMOST KILLING PIKACHU. Seriously. Sure, Lt.
