You are correct. This song is for his son, who passed away when he was 5.
So sad😢
Mothership is their greatest hits album I think.
Prince once said that before Led Zeppelin, music was all just black and white and Led Zeppelin delivered colors and light and shade.
❤❤Thank You from LZII was written about his then-wife, Maureen. (Robert's vocal is amazingly vulnerable) All of My Love from their last studio album (In Through the Out Door) is to Karac, his late son - his death is such a tragic story. Mothership is a compilation album released after the band disbanded☺
Said it once I'll say it again. Led Zeppelin was the most versatile and best band ever.
If memory serves, this was written for Robert's son that passed away at the age of 5.
So very beautiful !
Geez between Robert and Eric Clapton, so tragic!
@@bkm2797 Keith Richards too.
@@bkm2797 yes, very much so.
The common misconception about this song is that Plant wrote it for his late son. While he laments the loss of his son in this song, Plant is singing it to/for his wife, Maureen. Plant had a very difficult time forgiving himself for being on tour while his son was dying (the seriousness of the infection was misdiagnosed). His grief affected his marriage. This song is Plant telling his wife that she and their marriage are his priority and he is past chasing the feather in the wind (his late son):
"Should I fall out of love
My fire in the night
To chase a feather in the wind?"
Not so sure. I always thought this was dedicated to Plant’s wife. 🤔
Karac Plant died in 1977, and just a few years later, Zeppelin played this song live in their 1980 European Tour. It's hard to imagine the emotion running thru Robert as he sang this tribute....losing a young son. It's remarkable. Beautiful track.
A tribute song to Robert’s son Karic, passed away so young, when it came out none of us knew what the true meaning was, it’s a true love song to anyone who has ever lost a child
As much as I love this, Thank you is my all time favorite.
“Fool in the Rain”, off In Through the Out Door is a great song. Even the whistle blowing is top notch.
my fav along with Misty Mountain Top!
That samba mid section always gets me shakin'.
One of my all-time favorites, too. John Bonham's drumming is perfection, and so full of joy!
Fool in the Rain, great song with a taste of the new direction Zeppelin was headed, but tragically never saw.
@@marcusanderson6131 yes. this just compounds the loss of Bonzo :' (
“THE FEATHER IN THE WIND” is Robert’s 5-year-old son who died while he was touring, causing him to consider dropping out of the band. His wife said no, and he wrote All of My Love instead.
OMG - absolutely love this song - thanks for reacting ❤
The cool thing here is that no matter who you are, if you spend any time listening to Led Zeppelin, at some point you’ll come to realize you’re listening to genius. Just give them a few spins.
The keyboard solo in the middle makes me cry every time I hear it. It never gets old. That’s golden.
JPJ is my musical hero.
this was realy a farewell to the zep we all grew up with in a beautifull way i might add
IMHO, Led Zeppelin is thee best rock band ever !!!! I only wish I could have seen them in concert.
Mothership is basically their greatest hits
No other band were as versatile as Led Zeppelin. Kings of the change up.
This is one of my favorite LZ songs and it's very underrated. The keyboard solo by John is fantastic.
Fool In The Rain is another awesome song from Zeppelin. The drum playing is smooth as hell.
Lovely song. Sad too…a tribute to Robert Plant’s son, who died tragically during Zep’s 1977 tour…..RIP Karac Plant 🤘🏽😞🤘🏽
From the Led Zeppelin II album “Thank You” is also a very nice song.
Sometimes the chemistry of Led Zeppelin seems magical. There's really no other band I can think of that has that kind of chemistry.
This album, "In Through The Out Door," because it is the last album featuring John Bonham before his death, is Zeppelin's finest album. Every track is superb!
The end brings me to tears almost every time!
From the 1979 album, "In Through The Out Door". It was written in honor of Robert Plant's son Karac, 5, who died from a stomach virus during the 1977 tour of North America.
This is one of two Zeppelin's songs that Jimmy Page took no part in writing.
Slower, sadder song dealing with the loss of his son. Great tune, with great instruments. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Beautiful song about his son. You can hear the emotion in Plant's voice about his passing.
This song was later in their career and different from what people were used to from them but has always been my favourite Led Zeppelin song. A masterpiece.
Synthesizer solo, is gorgeous, then the guitar adds another layer of greatness. It's Magical.
Our son was in the Navy In 2014, it was 4:00 AM and we were driving him to his ship which was departing for Japan, it’s new home port. We knew we wouldn’t see him for a year; this song came on the radio and inside I was dying but I held it together.
Karachi was such an adorable little boy with Robert’s hair ❤ so sad that he passed away 😢
I love this one, particularly the organ solo by John Paul Jones
Sorry. There is no "organ" solo. There is no organ anywhere on this track. It is all synthesizer using string and brass-like patches.
it's a synth but yeah it really amplifies the... Melancholy, I'd say
Yeh, I thought i might get called out on that, but i hadn't used to word 'organ' in many years so i just let it fly. I play guitar, drums, SOME keyboard.. don't give one sanctimonious orchid about the technical terms of any of them, just the sounds and creativity an individual uses them to produce!
You listen to this song and other Led Zeppelin songs like No Quarter and tell me that there's a more magical band ever. This song is just straight up beautiful.
Led Zeppelin is just incredible!!!
The common misconception about this song is that Plant wrote it *for* his late son.
Also, 'Mothership' is a greatest hits collection. That's why there are so many outstanding songs on the album.
Yes, that's what I've heard. The lyrics make more sense when you consider the song as him reaching out to his wife after they've suffered a loss, wanting to be close to her again.
I was under the same misconception about this being for Karac until a few years ago reading the lyrics.
Clearly this is for his wife:
"Yours is the cloth, mine is the hand that sews time
His is the force that lies within
Ours is the fire, all the warmth we can find
He is a feather in the wind, oh"
He does include the line 'All of my love to you child'. I think it's for both of them.
Great summation. 👍
@@heliotropezzz333 I was just about to comment the same thing. 👍🏽
This is my favorite Zeppelin song, hands down. Beautiful music, beautiful lyrics
Wife here..One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs since childhood..(Loved the instrumentation )..I didn't really get the meaning as I was so young..(Isn't this about Lead Singer's Robert Plant's Son)??..,His son unfortunately died very very young..A Beautiful Beautiful tribute to him...Soooo Amazing...John Bonham always pure Fire!!!💙❣
U have to listen the ballad "Sea of love", with the Plant's post-Led band (Honeydrippers), it's so emotional ...
One of my favorite Zep songs is "The Rain Song." Gorgeous melody, beautiful chord structure, great production... And criminally underrated. You guys should check out "The Rain Song" for more of the softer side of Zeppelin.
A very beautiful tribute song to his young son who passed on. Love your kids with all you have.
The "violin" you referred to is actually synthesizer. I don't remember ever hearing this before. Good song. For something different, check out some almost-funk from Zep named "Trampled Underfoot." Or for something *completely* different, check out the Honeydrippers' "Sea of Love," a remake of a classic 50s ballad but with Robert Plant singing.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Going To California" and Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)"!!!
As others have mentioned, mothership is the greatest hits album. The original album was In Through the Out Door and I'll continue to recommend a song I think you guys will love also from this album, Fool in the Rain.
Bonzo is awesome. One of my favorites. "Fool in the Rain", "The Ocean", "D'yer Mak'er"....can't go wrong with Zep.
This album and more specifically this was the song that was my gateway to Led Zeppelin. I was barely into my teens and being raised in a relatively conservative home I had heard some Zeppelin songs but was off put by the seemingly wild look and sound emanating from the radio when they were played. But this song allowed me to buy my first Zeppelin album and well, from then on Led Zeppelin dominated much of my music listening time. And then I heard Kashmir and that was is, I then bought everything they produced. I will always love this song because it allowed me to discover the power and magic of Led Zeppelin.
You can't go wrong with Led Zeppelin ! Thank ya'll
Phenomenal band, which built many great memories. Thanx so much, Take care, Peace
One of my favorite Led jams...
I love this song. One of my favorite pics from led Zeppelin.
Untouchable no matter the song or delivery style,
Led Zeppelin are the GOATs
Unlike earlier Zeppelin albums, In Through the Out Door was dominated musically by John Paul Jones. His musical arrangements/compositions really shine on this album.
Led Zeppelin is one of those bands that really never fell off or released a bad studio album. This was a time of tragedy for Plant who had just lost his 5 year old son.
His Baby Boy.... 👶 Not a harder thing in the world to lose a child... Idk why The Plants aren't Christian by now.
@@oreally8605 Agreed, the hardest thing is to lose a child. But why Christian? He is spiritual and peaceful. There are others ways of nurturing the Creator in us all. :)
Didn't know about his loss. My condolences. I'm 73 and don't remember hearing about it
@@AzaleaLuna Because Christianity is the only way to God. Through Christ Jesus. Historical eye witness accounts. Jesus splits time BC/AD In Christianity there is hope after death. I believe that. 🙏
@@oreally8605 you are wrong, the bible says "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him." It doesn't say P.S except for Catholics, Mormons etc. It doesn't say "must be Christian to qualify" it says you will be saved. The bible also says "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." As far as organized religion goes, a good portion of the book of Revelations is Christ condemning man for putting organized religion above Christ's teachings.
I’ve been listening to Led Zeppelin for 50 years (I’m 65) and my favorite track by them is probably “In My Time Of Dying” and John Bonham really flexes his muscles on this track. I highly recommend
I forgot how much I used to listen to them!!! Thanks for bringing memories back!❤
Zeppelin III was my favorite 😂 I loved them all
My favorite Zeppelin song, I've always loved it
I love Led Zeppelin they are definitely the gods of music
Guys, Mothership is essentially a Best of compilation. This song is from In Through The Out Door, their last album before John Bonham's death. The sound was quite different after their three year hiatus. Go to their previous album - Presence - and check out Achilles Last Stand. That will get you pumped up!
They should definitely check out Zep's '79 Knebworth performane of "Achilles Last Stand".
The reason the sound is so different is because Johne Paul Jones took over the production of the album from Jimmie Page. Jimmie was wacked out on heroin at the time.
Achilles Last Stand is the Sunday get your motor running for football song Jay’s been looking for. Gotta be the studio version first. I haven’t heard a live version that matches the perfection they created on their Presence album.
one can not recommend Achilles Last Stand highly or often enough. what a workout that song is!
the also sucks on this album
Great pick. Never go wrong with Led Zeppelin
You 2 are my favorite reaction people love your music you guys play ❤
This song is so deep, I could listen to it on repeat for hours💕
One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs is, "Fool in the Rain!" Another Love song, with nice, unexpected change ups! ❤️ A little longer than normal, but good thru out! 👍
John Bonham’s drummer is so solid , big powerful and so nice , such a huge influence. I’m sure the meaning of the song has been touched on by others.
THANK YOU
LED ZEPPELIN
A beautiful & sad tribute to Roberts beautiful son, Roberts vocals are still amazing, but I think you can hear & feel his pain. Robert & JPJ wrote this song together, I heard the band was worried about Plant preforming it, I’ll assume especially live. My heart breaks him & family, & anyone who loses a child.
The band was on tour when Robert Plant's five-year-old son died, suddenly, of a stomach infection. As often happens when a couple suffer the loss of a child, Plant and his wife grew apart. He realized he didn't want to lose her, and wrote this song to say, He'll always be a part of us, but it's time to move ahead together, because I still love you and miss you. The song is not directly about their son (the "feather in the wind" that he's been chasing, in his grief) so much as it's about their marriage.
Plant and his wife did stay together, and had another child.
There is one line 'All of my love to you child'.
Until 1982 when they divorced. They have remained friends. I think she just did not wish to deal any longer with him being gone on tour all the time. She and Robert had had a new son, Logan, born in 1979, but after Zeppelin ceased in 1980, by 1982 Plant made the decision to give himself totally to building his new solo career. He was still driven to pursue his art, and she saw the same pattern repeating itself of being left alone to raise a young child. Robert hadn’t been there when Karac died, and that left a scar. That’s is just my surmise. Not based on anything I’ve read or heard.
But they did, in fact divorce only a few years later.
Jay keeps mentioning the violins in this song, when actually that’s John Paul Jones on the keyboards making all those wonderful sounds.
Robert Plant wrote this song about his son. He developed an infection of some kind and Led Zeppelin was on tour. By the time Robert made it home his son had died.
Pure poetry my favorite zeppelin song
Beautiful song from a father to his son
And also to his wife I think
@@heliotropezzz333yeh
Hey, guys, the reason why there are so many great songs on the Mothership album is because it's their Greatest Hits album. And, it doesn't even contain all their greatest hits, they have so many awesome songs. ❤✌
"All My Love" is the sixth song on Led Zeppelin's 1979 album In Through the Out Door. Credited to Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, it is a rock ballad that features a synthesizer solo by Jones. It was written in honour of Plant's son Karac, who died while Led Zeppelin were on their 1977 North American tour.
Mi canción favorita de Led Zeppelin.
All My Love to you lost child...so sad but still my all time favorite Zep tune~~
This was zeppelins last album and special to me because it was released in the summer before I started high school. So many great songs. I really suggest you check out “in the evening“
Please consider listening to: Achilles Last Stand, In The Evening, In My Time of Dying and for a surprise... Boogie With Stu!!!
One of my favorite LZ songs. That bridge makes me imagine flying above the clouds.
Love in every note.
OMG! When the Levee Breaks has always been my favorite of their's!
This song broke new ground for LZepp.
It goes rock to modern to classical to lullabye to country ....etc. Shout out to JPJ mostly.....and John Bonham on skins. They all shine. Radio hit!!
tbis song was written for robert's son... he recorded this in one take. That's all he could give. What a treasure to listen to.
Such a beautiful song.
First time hearing this. What a beautiful song in honor of his song.
This is taken from the final studio album Zep released in 1979. I’d love to see you react to “ In The Evening” from the same album!
'i'm gonna crawl' from the same album.
Mothership is a compilation album or "best of" album 👍
Robert Plant has *always* been a blues vocalist. Look up his recent videos with Allison Krause. He's still performing in 2022, age 74. If you want some really *raunchy* blues, listen to Zep's "The Lemon Song"
Memories! This was the last dance I danced at my senior prom at the time, I had no clue it was a Led Zeppelin song. One of my favorites.
Love their ballads as much as, if not more than, their rock classics. My favorite though is “Thank You”. The lyrics are so beautiful. Sample: “If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. Mountains crumble to the sea, There would still be you and me….” ❤
Another favorite of mine from Led Zep is No Quarter
"All My Love" is the sixth song on Led Zeppelin's 1979 album In Through the Out Door. Credited to Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, it is a rock ballad that features a synthesizer solo by Jones. It was written in honour of Plant's son Karac, who died while Led Zeppelin were on their 1977 North American tour.
"All My Love" is one of only two Led Zeppelin songs that Jimmy Page had no part in writing (the other being "South Bound Saurez", also from In Through the Out Door). The album came in a brown paper bag sleeve that is actually part of the album.
Time to check out Pink Floyd's live performance from the Pulse concert 1994 - "Sorrow" will blow your mind, "Comfortably Numb" will take you to another dimension. Led Zeppelin are pretty good too..
When The Heavens Shook !!! 🤎🎧
Musically this was John Paul Jones genius on display here!! The music just about entirely created by him, using a brand new state of the art synthesizer - with heartfelt lyrics by Robert Plant. This album was basically a Jones / Plant collaboration. Jimmy Page was battling a heroin addiction & John Bonham an alcohol addiction & both were absent from some of the recording sessions.
One of the best LZ songs!
You guys will love Fool In The Rain.
People say that this song was written for his son who died when he was on tour. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but it reminds me of my son who died when he was a baby.
Thanks for the reaction♥️
Here we are at Led Zepplin... so since you're doing Led Zepplin you'll definitely like "Over the Hills and Far Away"... also if you want a deep song to react to...Edwin McCain "Solitude"
This and In The Evening are my two favorite Zeppelin songs.
Appreciate this great song. 0ne of my favorites from thier library.
A beautiful song dedicated to Robert Plant's son, Karac, who died when he was 5. Plant also did a song during his solo career that was a tribute to his son. Very sad but very beautiful.
One of my Favorite!
Mothership is a 'best of' complitation.
