In 1977, Zepplin was on tour when Robert got a call that his son, Karac had died from a stomach illness. The band quit the tour and took two years off. The song is about Robert, his son, and wife. He's worried that he may "fall out of love ... to chase a feather (his son) in the wind." This loss has caused his love or "the flame to dim." He's worried about whether or not it "is to end or begin." HIs wife is the cloth, his is the "hand that sews time," and Karac "is the force that lies within.' The "cloak of delight" is their love. He desperately misses his son but doesn't want that to destroy his love with his wife. Yes, Lex, a beautiful song, indeed.
One of the few comments that I have ever read that realized that the song was not just about the lost of his son, but the impact it had on his relationship with his wife.
I’ve heard this song a million times but had no idea it was about the loss of Robert Plant’s son. Thanks for the breakdown. Made me cry.
The death of Karac led directly to Robert taking a break from the band. But with his buddy's absence and the grief that overwhelmed the entire band, Bonzo's drinking spiked. And in Sept 1980, John Bonham died in his sleep after drinking 2 fifths of vodka from choking on his vomit. The band broke up shortly thereafter and a couple years later, Robert's marriage ended. This song really was the watershed of the band's innocence and the album it appeared on was released on Aug 15, 1979, about a year before John's death. When Robert was asked about Bonzo's death on the Stern show, he said that he and Bonzo saw each other almost all the time at the pub, living in the same town and so you can imagine what kind of impact it would have on a best friend to watch your mate's life falling apart. The youtube channel @ProfessorofRock did an entire breakdown of this song and it's significance titled "70s Rock Classic Was HATED by Critics & Divided Fans but SAVED the Iconic Singer" and it's totally worth the listen (even if the Prof is nearly in tears on a few different occasions).

As Lex said..you are giving your heart to love somebody in this case a six year old child and when tragedy strikes and the child dies it is I am sure a feeling only understood by those who have lost a child..Lex and Brad as soon to be parents enjoy every minute with your child...they are a gift and I pray that you will have a very long time to spend with them...just be sure to enjoy the ride because it goes quickly

John Paul Jones was the star of this album. His arrangements. His synthesizers, his bass,
indeed, he was... this album would have never been released otherwise. jimmy page and john Bonham were in a dark place and Robert was mourning the loss of his son. most of the album was recorded in bit and pieces, the band wasn't together for much of the recording. then john bonham a year later.
Zeppelin did get "simpler" near the end .. another testament to the idea that making things look easy is a learned skill .. with most arts, acting, etc.

On the surface, Led Zeppelin’s “All of My Love” sounds like a straightforward love song, with lyrics that express romantic dedication through Robert Plant’s signature poetic phrasing. This is the most personal song ever sang - expressing the love for a lost child and the loneliness of missing that child. On top of that - it's hauntingly beautiful and heart wrenching. My favorite Zep song.

I'm going to see Robert Plant and Alison Krauss on Sunday night, and though he won't sing this beautiful song, he will sing beautifully, even at his current age. I'm going to see a legend, just as I sit and enjoy Brad and Alex enjoying the legendary band. This music is incredible.

For entertainment value, nothing against Brad, but Lex is why I subscribed to this channel. Her reactions are what keep me watching.
I started with appreciating Lex, but I believe I've seen so many scenarios now, that and watching some of their vlogs, that I truly appreciate the couple now. If you took either one away, the reactions would not be as good/complete. They're the perfect right brain, left brain duo and attractive as people. I would never want to see either of them react solo. They're too good together. If they ever move on from music, I hope they get into movie reactions.
Lex is one in a million for sure - but Brad is much deeper and smarter than he often portrays. Although I wonder - if he's going to enjoy being a father to a baby.

Robert Plant wrote this for his 5 year old son who died suddenly. This song always played at school dances. It came on and you'd grab who you had a crush on and hold each other tight and just sway back and forth. God how I miss those innocent times. I'll always cherish them.

The key lines are "to you child" and "I get a little bit lonely". When you hear this song without understanding why it was written you don't catch the full meaning of those lines. His son Karac died in 1977 and his son Logan was born in 1979. "Plant said that the song “All My Love,” which he wrote about Karac after his death, “was just paying tribute to the joy that he gave us as a family and, in a crazy way, still does occasionally.”

When Zeppelin III came out, the hardcore fans were pissed, because it wasn't a hard driver like Zeppelin II. I think it's a beautiful song, especially given the back story.

Losing a child is I was in group therapy for a while and therapist said losing a child is one of the worst sufferings that can exist if you lose a wife or mother or father ain’t so bad but losing a child it’s just very difficult I can understand that too I have three children
July 1977, his son Karac died at the age of five while Plant was engaged on Led Zeppelin's concert tour of the United States. Plant retreated to his home in the Midlands of England and, for months afterward, questioned his future.
It's kind of wild to hear Zeppelin songs like Whole Lotta Love and then a lush ballad like this. They had a lot of unexpected range.
Thank You was on Zep II and Tangerine on Zep III, both ballads. They pretty much had a ballad on every album.
That range is why I love Zep so much! When I hear people claim they are overrated, I know these people have only skimmed their library of music. Truly a wide range of sounds and emotions on all of their albums. They are in the master class of musicians!
So you've finally hit on my wife's and mine song, and that will score you a subscribe. Now if you'll allow me to indulge myself with the story of how this came to be our song: When we were teenagers, having dated for a few months, the youth group at my wife's church decided to have a Valentine's Day dance (1983). My friend, Steve (who also was in the church youth group) supplied the sound system (which was just his stereo with turntable) and they recruited me to play DJ. Now mind you, this was in 1983 and I was 15, so being a DJ with Steve's bedroom stereo set-up was not what you would call a professional DJ set up. I remember this one kid kept demanding I play Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran (and I eventually did, just to get him to shut up.) I had brought all my records, including Zeppelin's In Through the Out Door, and at one point, I told Steve to cover for me, slipped on the record and started paying All My Love. The crowd just stopped and stared at me. What was this, they seemed to ask? They only knew the radio pop (new wave) stuff of the day. I grabbed my girlfriend (now my wife of 37 years) and we began to slow dance to it. Others joined in, and when the song started to go upbeat a bit, they looked at us as we continued to slowly sway together and they weren't sure how to dance to it, but they followed our lead and just kept slow dancing. When the song ended, I said "That's our song from now on." And then I went back to playing the crap music everyone wanted to hear for the remainder of the night. Fun times.
The “Truest” form of Love….For someone you created. No connection is stronger than one’s love for their offspring. People that never had children will never understand this bond, this connection, this pain, this Love.

My daughter passed away when she was 22, she was a beautiful person and we had so much fun together. She was always open to listen to my “old people music” I’ll never forget we were in the car listening to this song, and I said oh this part is cool… and that horn sounding synth solo came in and she LAUGHED!! I think she was expecting some major lead guitar solo and it just struck her as hilarious to hear that sound instead! But we sat and laughed and it’s such a good memory for me. She otherwise really loved the song, and I of course had already loved it for many years. I’m really happy and excited for you guys!

“the feather in the wind” is supposed to be the son who died at 5 while the singer was on the road, causing him to consider if he wanted to continue in music. The song is the answer.

Such a wonderful song full of melancholy. It also does one of my favorite things, which is when singers ad-lib at the end of songs. I don’t know if every lyric at the end was planned but it feels like it wasn’t.
I agree- the end feels like an improv by Robert. When he sings "Sometimes I get a little lonely..." I just lose it.

Lex' exuberance is a kick in the pants, bringing out the occasional smile and even a guffaw from Brad, who is more contemplative. Lex is full of insight, though -- hitting the nail on the head frequently with her insightful takes on the song lyrics. It is pretty trippy the impact these Reaction Videos Channels and their hosts have had on society. And it's very positive, needless to say.

It was so great watching Lex spin into the stratosphere of bliss as more instruments were added. GO GIRL!!!
So when this album came out in 1979, Page was in the throes of heroin addiction and Bonham was drinking heavily, meaning most of the song writing was done by Plant and Jones and therefore a little less complex or layered or hard sounding. Musically it sounds a lot like what Plant would record when he released his first official solo album Pictures At Eleven in 1982 which i hope you continue exploring, because it is an impressive catalog in its own right.
I would love to have seen where LZ could've gone after ITTOD. Jones was always contributing more than he was usually given credit for. So while Jimmy was, shall we say "letting things interfere with his usual total dedication to music", perhaps he may have decided to get healthy again (instead of waiting until 1983-84) sooner and the band may very well have continued to explore new areas. Oh well, what's done is done but it certainly feels like they had more to say, so I guess that's our loss.
All My Love" is the sixth song on Led Zeppelin's 1979 album In Through the Out Door. Credited to Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, it is a rock ballad that features a synthesizer solo by Jones. It was written in honor of Plant's son Karac, who died while Led Zeppelin were on their 1977 North American tour.
I am a major Zep nerd. Bonham was very deep into alcoholism, lost for days drunk, during these recording sessions. Page held up in his castle strung out on heroin. This left Plant and Jones in the studio to compose, arrange, and record. This song is composed, arranged, and primarily played by Jones. Plant wrote and sang, a love song to his recently departed son. Plant cleaned up, stone sober, when his son died. His son is the feather in the wind. The feather is the symbol for Plant on the fourth album.

This was one of Led Zeppelin's later albums. They had many hits before this song and this is the second album I bought of theirs at the time. I eventually ended up buying all their albums except for their best and their greatest hits because I ended up creating my own greatest hits.

That is true, Lex what you said….Whenever you love totally and deeply, sadness will always occur…..either for you or for those who love you. It is the human condition; no great love without pain. But to shy away from love to protect from the pain is to never truly be alive. To bear the sorrow of the loss of a child in beyond what I can imagine. Eviscerating. What a godawful tragedy.

You know that I almost forgot about this amazing song, sometimes I do because this came off of their last album, In through the out door.Zeppelin is timeless to me,you still haven't heard a few classics from my favorite album which is lll.Gallows pole, Tangerine 🍊, That's the way,The Bron-yr-or Stomp, Since I've been loving you.
Not knowing the background of the song, I could see why Lex thought the song was about the dangers of falling in love. And most who don’t know a lot about LZ, would probably get the same vibe. But is was about the lose of his son at 5 years of age, all the pain and confusion of losing a child. It also was about how it affected his relationship with his wife, as it had a big affect on their relationship. That is what the reference to his wife “being the cloth” and his “hand that sews time” meaning they together have made the life they have, and their son “is the force that lies within”. Now his soul is a “feather in the wind”. Plant was hurting from the lose of his son, but also the distance that had come between him and his wife. And Lex is right about the dark feeling, you can hear the pain in Robert Plant’s voice as he sings. Such a powerful song, one of LZ bests too.
Under the dictionary heading for "Joy" is a notation to "see RUclips and watch Lex listen to Led Zeppelin All of my Love" Pure, unadulterated joy. In 2022, this is a thing of utter magnificence.

I dedicated this song to my son years ago, not even knowing the backstory of Plant writing this for his son, I always assumed it was about a woman. So beautiful and this will always be my kam’s song

Every time I hear this song, I hear his pain. Though truly tragic and devastating for such a loss and he wasn’t even at home when tragedy occurred, I also feel his deep love for his beautiful boy! His son had Robert’s thick gorgeous locks of curls. Just heartbreaking!!
I just want to say "Congrats" on your awesome news. Robert Plant lost his son and Zeppelin took 18 months off as Plant recovered. When they resumed, Plant wrote this song for his diseased son. Page thought it was too soft (for Zeppelin) but decided to just go along with it out respect. Lex said it was "Sad and beautiful" and she was right. It's an Ode to his son. In a year or less, you will know just how powerful it is. I wish you three all the best !!!!!!!!!!!

I love the melancholy in this song
"Fool In The Rain" on the same album, which you've reacted to, is a really good one. Bonham plays the drums in (two different) polyrhythms in 4/4 time and its just amazing when paired to the, different, 12/8 rhythm of the piano and vocals.

Lex really gets them. Yes, this song is about parental love, and the loss of Robert's son. Taken off their last studio album before John Bonham died. Another great track from that album is "I'm Gonna Crawl "

In through the out door was a bit of a dark album. At the same time it showed that Zeppelin was heading into a new direction for the 80's. Jimmy adapting a Gizmotron to his Gibson double neck. Jimmy and Bonzo were hardly ever at the studio for this album...they were to smacked out on heroin. Plant and Jonesy were the mates who actually put the album together.
Lex gets it immediately, once again. Remarkable, truly. It took me decades to understand the context. It’s an emotional masterpiece.
Best Led Zep song ever and frankly one of the best songs ever period
This song was amazingly derivative as one of the songs where Zeppelin was not hard rock enough and was going in a direction the fans didn't want. But as others have said, it's a tribute to Plant's dead son. My God, how can you not love this song? It's his tribute to his son.
Lex had an eargasm listening to this one, BRAVO! This was their last album and was just so great! Hot Dog is fun, almost country, FOOL IN THE RAIN was a huge hit! In the evening is the first song and a BANGER! Fine choice you two!!!
One of their most beautiful songs, I was just playing this the other day. Can't imagine having to sing a song even once with this much baggage, I'd break.

I think it's beautiful that upon first listen Lex could plug into exactly what it's all about - not the details of Plants son, but the overriding emotion behind the song.

As you have seen, it is a song dedicated to his wife about their departed 5 yr old son. Robert's grief was so intense that he could not even relate to his wife for some time. His references to "chasing a feather in the wind" are about struggling with grief. He is professing love for his "proud Aryanne" which means Indian princess because he realizes he has ignored her grief in a way. Deep lyrics but I thought I could shed some light. Great song, nice reaction.
A delight to watch Lex react to and appreciate this almost sacred music.
