Sasha Cohen returns for her first competitive skate in nearly four years. Finshed 2nd with a score of 69.63.
S2 Sasha
There's no Borat or Bruno here, this isn't SACHA Cohen, so if you're looking for that BS, then go somewhere else Спорт
As someone who's spent time in the same rink as Sasha, she is far from bitchy. A very nice person, just a bit aloof/shy. Gave me some skating tips and always said hi when we ran into each other.
So many of her moves are obviously superior to other skaters. What I’m always focused on is her arms and hands. She does things with them that adds so much interest to her routines where are skaters are just flailing them around.
What a brave comeback! That Russian split jump was amazing. I believe that if she would have played politics, and competed a bit before nationals, that she would have made the team. Her artistry, flexibility, spirals and spins are unparalleled! If I was a skater and could spin with one leg parallel with my body beautifully, I'd do it quite often too. The ending spin is basically one of her signatures. Because of her artistry, she's a legend! Thank you Sasha.
THE best spiral sequence we will ever see from a female figure skater.
As beautiful as Cohen's spirals were, I thought Shizuka's spiral was better at the 2006 Olympics. Not only does she show better edge control but she also makes a bigger pattern on the ice.
@@gk891 Agreed. Spirals are not just about flexibility...they're about blade control. It's called figure SKATING, not figure contortion. And Kwan's spirals were also better in terms of blade control.
@@soxnation1000 I wasn't a big fan of Kwan but I do admit that her spirals were exceptional in terms of edge control. They were amazing.
Agreed. Other skaters can have “better blade control” all they want. If I was a skater I’d want me a showstopping spiral sequence just like Sasha Cohen!
@@DY-zk2zt If I was a skater, I'd want a spiral like Shizuka Arakawa as it would score better points. This is because she makes a much bigger pattern on the ice with her spiral sequence and shows far better edge quality and control than Cohen does.
Sasha brought grace as well as talent to her skating, more like a ballet dancer on skates. I’ve always thought she was the best, even though she faltered now and again. So beautiful to watch.
Love this program almosttt as much as her Malaguena
Figure skating has moved forward so much, but I miss Sasha Cohen a lot. Fantastic ice balerina Sasha Cohen, one and only forever!
The split jump at 2:33 is the best in the business.
And THIS is how a former national champion SKATES--FEARLESS AND GORGEOUS!!
When Sasha lands a double axel, there are few who can make it look more beautiful than her. I love Joannie's axel too, but Sasha's is a thing of beauty.
her choreography leaves you breathless...i love her so much!
this was by far one of the best of her programs I'm also a figure skater and I seen her a few times at a well known New York ice rink..she's an outstanding skater
Still brings me to tears all these years later, and that layback was just perfect. So beautifully centered and timed it created its own dimension, well kinda a
@russianskatingfan I don't really see the need to criticise Sasha so much for her comeback. Ultimately, it's her career and she felt she wanted to try one last time. You can see in all her interviews and her conduct at the medal ceremony for the Nationals that she was completely at peace with what happened and felt that whatever happened was meant to be. She struggled with some injuries which prevented her coming back sooner. Sasha showed incredible grace and class in her conduct.
she is amazing, and even more amazing for coming back with a performance as good as this after not competing for 4 whole years
Met John Nicks today while volunteering at the 2013 worlds. NICEST guy ever..before I even approach him he comes up to me and shakes my hand and asks how I'm doing. yeah, because an insignificant volunteer like me is important...lol he is such a cool guy. Mad respect for mr. Nicks...
did he smell like booze? i imagined him to carry a flask in his coat pocket to pull out and take a swig from before the scores would be announced
Nick's was always a class act. A true skating legend.
just wanted to say sasha cohen is far from being a 'bitch'... in 2009 during stars on ice i waited outside BY MYSELF in the freezing cold for sasha cohen by the buses, and when she came out and she immediately came over to me and was the SWEETEST THING EVER. she posed for pictures with me and signed an autograph for me. she was also really talkative and incredibly kind. sooo if that's not nice, idk what is.
That doesn’t mean anything. You’re so goddamn naive.
Sasha the only skater it's a pleasure to watch. No one skated like her in the world.
I think Sasha Cohen has things that anothers skaters doesn´t. Is her unique charisma, the way she skates that made the moment unique, you can´t stop watching her. It was a pity don´t see her at Vancouver. It will be more years than appears another Sasha Cohen
I met Sasha in the summer of 2003 when I was taking a stretch class at the skating rink in Connecticut. She was very nice and pleasant!
LOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS PERFORMANCE!!! The spirals! That layback! How gorgeous.
Sasha Cohen was certainly the greatest female skater of her generation. The competition results she got don't necessarily reflect this, but skating aficionados all adore Sasha, and there is a reason for this ... Bravissima, Sasha :--) !!
Just second to Michelle kwan.
@@TT-ee4qpwho?
@fantastischfish
I know!! To me, Sasha got a gold medal this year. Competing after retiring from competitive skating for 4 yrs was a brave thing to do!!! Plus, she had nothing to lose, she's been to the Olympics twice already, got a Silver medal, she just wanted to experience the competition feeling again. I miss the good old days when Sasha used to compete. She's just an exquisite skater, she is and will always be one of the best skaters ever to me!!!
Her layback spin is the loveliest ever.
The spirals and split jumps oh myyyyy 😍😍😍😍
@2:34 The split jump right into the spiral. Splendid!!!
you rock, sasha! i really think you deserved better than 4th place at nationals! i had the pleasure of seeing you at smucker's stars on ice recently- and i've been a fan of yours since i was a kid. your autographed pic is now hanging proudly on my wall. keep it up, WE LOVE YOU! :D
Her layback spin position is perfect
WOW! Her spins were amazing!
No one will ever be as entertaining as her on ice.
In my opinion this was the last great performance by an American woman figure skater
+Theivesx A'Furay We've yet to see anything close to her... even half a decade later
I know right? I heard someone say that Gracie and Ashley were the next Michelle and Sasha. I mean..wha???
ashli674 That's... that's just a sad comparison
I think Polina Edmunds has a lot of potential. She could dominate American Ice Skating. But the Russians are so talented and Evgenia Medvedeva (right now) would win a gold medal
:(
Theivesx A'Furay but remember, the short programs were sasha's thing. The long programs were her nemesis
While I agree sasha was fantastic we've seen amazing skates from american females that top this one in my opinion like Karen Chen at 2017 nationals or Ashley at 2016 skate canada. Both SPs I mean. While Sasha was great you cannot deny what has been placed in front of you.
Это девочка просто чудо, жаль без олимпийской медали.
There was no mistake.. she was like.. : ''Look, I am back and I will do my best!'' SHE IS PERFECT! She motivate me so much :)!
She was so elegant!!! No American women's skater has done so since then. More have one medals but programs have no artistry.
thank you bobek champion!! you are so kind!!
She might not have been on the 2010 Olympic team, but she still has the BEST I-spin in the world. These youngsters can't touch her on that spin!
our OC girl! we love you Sasha!
That was epic!
Sasha Cohen lives 2 miles north from me!!! And she skates at my rink sometimes I've seen her and Sarah Hughes before.
beautiful!
¡Me encanta! Es una gozada verla patinar y cuanto más la ves hacerlo... más te gusta.
@TinyAva93 thanks for posting, you made my day. i needed a good laugh.....
goodness nobody does the I-Spin better than Sasha....which is prolly why lots call it the Sasha-Spin hahaha
умница!!!!! всегда великолепна!!!!
I love the music ^.^
Her mother was from Russia and balerína , so we can see the genes.
No habrá otra igual a Sasha Cohen
Wow... that was awesome for anyone let alone a female who was out of competition for years!
she's put on some weight this year and look tremendous :)
@pagsmiley The podium ceremony is here on youtube. Sasha is beautiful as ever and seems very sweet to the younger girls.
I also think Sasha looks thinner than ever...I've just noticed that watching some of her old programs and then this one.
Incomparable
'Stay on your feet'. That is key. Or as Sarah Hughes said about the Olympics 'stay vertical'. :)
OMG thats so awesome! Could you get an audograph for me? What city do you live in?
PERHAPS THE MOST ARTISTICALLY EXQUISITE! SKATER! EVER! WHAT ARTISTRY! GORGEOUS!
No .
Peggy Fleming, Katarina Witt and Michelle Kwan are greater artists on ice than Sasha Cohen.
@@TT-ee4qp THEY WERE OK I KNOW PEGGY FLEMING STUDIED BALLET. IN WHICH YOU'RE RIGHT! KATARINA LOOKED MECHANICAL TO ME WHEN SHE JUMPED. AND MS. KWAN WAS OK! SASHA HAD A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA I THOUGHT! AND HAD GREAT FLEXIBILTY.
@pagsmiley I have read they hugged backstage-it's Nationals they all know each other-I'm sure they did not mean to snub each other (although podium etiquette dictates they should have at least shaken hands). They seemed happy and excited up there. Sasha seems proud and at peace with herself. :)
She is not a choker people!!! Come on now, why the hating??? It's really sick and annoying. This was her first and ONLY competition in four years, and the pressure must have been off the charts. I was so happy to see her back, and I'm a diehard kwan fan, but I respect excellent skating when I see it. Watch her post free skate interview. She was genuine, humble, and complimentary of the other skaters. Welcome back Sasha. THIS is what I miss in skating, and the audience did too.
Thanks mlc! I realized that wasn't Peggy after I had posted!
She really messed up the long program, but it's great how she actually got back on the ice for one last try.
Лучшая из всех лучших
No .
She wasn't the best in the history.
She was great....
@@TT-ee4qpЭто по-моему одно и тоже
@Rudziewicz they could just be in awe at the amazing spins/performace that they are speechless! (I know I am :)
She's actually put some healthy weight on :) If you youtube her in 2012 you get some great videos of her and she looks like she's at a healthy weight. I do agree she was very thin in 2012, but now she has some awesome cuves!
They gave Wagner the spot. They should've given it to Cohen as well. She's amazing and definitely well missed!
Wagner? Please.....! Couldn't COMPARE to Sasha Cohen.
where's she from???
DOES SOME BODY KNOW WICH VERSION OF THIS MUSIC IS??? WICH ORCHESTA IS IT?? please
her day has passed.
Era incazzata per bene xD! grandissima!
who plays this ESPANA CANI?? I kwon is marquina narro, but who plays it???
flexibility...
@OSIRIS37 The US.
@mlc2005 AMEN!!
the jury always looking for the hair on the soup !
@ynkisno1 What's wrong? No comment on the double axel? Does this jump escape the gaze of your critical eye? I'm disappointed.
擤鼻涕幹嘛也拍進去? ㄏㄏㄏ 不過 看過她一支影片 開始搜索她其餘影片呢
herm712: I agree with you that she did not skate better than the other skaters this time (at least in terms of jumping), but it's obvious that you have something against her despite your "she's pretty to watch" compliment. Yes, her jumps were poor in the lp, but her short program was the program of the night (in terms of artistry and choreography). I just find it funny that we youtubers can so easily trash someone from the comfort of our sofas, when we aren't an 1/8th as talented.
I can't believe how little they commented on her spins. They are the best in the competition, look at how little she travels! It saddens me that the likes of Scott Hamilton and Peggy Fleming only care about jumps.
@mlc2005 That all makes sense. However she was not smart about her comeback. She should have come back at the start of the 08-09 season and trained all summer before that season to be ready. She was never the strongest technical skater even in her prime. The ladies were jumping far better than they were when she last competed. She tried to come back only in fall of 09, and pushing her boyd to do alot in a short time span injured herself, further rushing her attempt to be ready for Nationals.
These skaters who aren’t strong jumpers don’t actually execute a lutz...no toe assist and flat blade at take off. That being said, the only other ladies skater who has ever come close to Sasha’s spirals and spins is Julia Lipnitskaia.
Change of edge spiral is Michelle's signature move, my favorite. But I understand what you said about Sasha.
Что за музыка?
"España cañí" by Pascual Marquina Narro
Dear goodness everybody. Everybody has their off days. Some people are bitchy sometimes. Just because Sasha was bitchy to some people, doesn't mean she's bitchy all the time and to everyone.
None more Lovely...
Nobody could outperform Sasha
Peggy, Michelle, Yuna....better than Sasha.
rudziewicz: Just to point out, Flemming (unfortunately) was not commentating tonight, it was Sandra Bezic, who, well... she's a great choreographer, but not a great commentator. I still can't figure out why she's a US commentator when she's Canadian.. there are enough world class female US skaters to have a different female commentator... don't get me wrong, I'm not being nationalistic, but Bezic is just bitter and biased most of the time.
I'm so proud of her. Although her jumps could have been better. And I think the commentators believe that as well. And that's probably why they kept quiet most of the time when usually they would be talking. Especially at the end. They didn't want to say anything bad, but they knew she could have done better.
Hopefully in the free skate, or the long program, she would be perfect and get gold. And a better reception from the commentators.
Does anyone feel like the US Figure Skating Association will try and get Sasha to Worlds instead of Rachel Flatt? Sasha would probably place higher, and that would give the women a better shot at securing 3 spots for next year's Worlds. You can't rest all of that responsibility on Mirai. YEah, she got 4th at the Olympics, but it's not certain she will move up.
she's saying thank you to me at 6:54. check out my pics on flickr under my same name. hughes is nice. but sasha was unreal. she was so nice to people in practice, and gave people a time of day. signing autographs and such. and that flatt is the biggest BITCH i've ever said hello to in my life. and i confirmed this long before she jumping, but stylessly won. she wouldn't sign one autograph. sasha circled the whole rink. she is the best skater, and has the best personality. she's simply.. the best
well as a spectator, that's what i'm supposed to do, sit on my sofa and judge regardless of whether i skate or not. as i said good for sasha for showing up but that felt like a half hearted attempt. her SP was decent but it was not the performance of the night; Mirai owned that entire event even though she came in second. sasha's SP looked like a recycled version of her 2004 malaguena program and her LP was not a competitive program. her levels were nowhere near where they should have been.
I dont know what you base your idea on Sasha likely placing higher than Flatt. Flatt had two very questionable downgrades at the Olympics without which she would have finished 4th ahead of Nagasu. Flatt is one of the most consistent skaters, it is far more likely her skating that well again than say Lepisto doing so. Rochette is missing Worlds. So Nagasu and Flatt should both probably be top 5 at Worlds even if Ando skates much better than she did in Vancouver and makes the podium.
2:33
Sasha's time has gone.
look at my pictures on flicr under my same name. not only was she the only, but she went around the whole rink signing hundreds of autographs. and i saw flatt refuse a girl at practice and make her cry. to be totally honest. besides emily hughes, all the girls were kinda bitchy. but beyond hughes, sasha has the best attitude of probably any professional....
Furthermore Sasha's skating at U.S nationals did not show she is likely to do well in the current very deep womens field. Where do you really think her skates from U.S Nationals would have placed? Did you even see her LP. She would have probably been 4th-6th in the SP, but dropped out of the top 10 in the LP. She would need to skate cleanly to even be 3rd to 5th at Worlds where Flatt and Nagasu probably will be and she couldnt skate clean programs even in her prime.
sasha is a skater who would have benefited from Eteri.
Isn't Eteri supposedly awful?
Beautiful skate , but she is ultra-thin here.
None Lovelier...
Caroline is a technical mess...and that includes spins.
@ynkisnoYou should stay home and practice your English before trolling videos.
5:36 is she admitting she's anorexic????
