poor sasha :( she was SO great, and every competition she rocked the short, but could never keep together during the long. anyways, she is beautiful to watch and truly one of the all time greats, even without a major international title to her name

sasha was the only one to not show up to practice on the final day.(same as torino) i sat at the edge of the ice numb, and not cause it was cold. i was sick to my stomach all day. i'm still sick, and will never understand.. but at the same time, i could never be more proud of how courageous and gutsy she is. and she has to be the nicest famous person in person you'd ever meet. flatt's bad attitude will be short lived. she'll never make it half as far as the real queen of ice, anywhere in life

It doesn't matter what place she came in, or how many jumps she messed up on. The pure fact that she had the will and determination to come back is absolutely awe-inspiring. The lady commentator in the short program was right: this is a brave thing to do. She will now always be remembered as Sasha Cohen, who came back after 4 years, something no one else has ever done. And we can all admire her for that.

If only she had competed in the grand prix event leading up to Nationals that season... My gosh, what an exquisite program. In fact, if skated perfectly, it probably would have won Nationals that year. Sandra was right : everything was there. The problem was that she was just "tight" that night. Her triple jumps were fully rotated, her spins were the most beautiful and difficult compared to the rest of the field, and her artistry was just like her spiral sequences -- without peer.

I do remember when Sasha announced she was gonna try to come back for Vancouver but had to pull out of the Grand Prix. She desperately needed to compete prior to Nationals but couldn't, and the jumps here weren't getting enough lift and snap to fully rotate. With that said, I don't think anyone else could have pulled off what she did with the little time she had to be ready. Even some skaters who train full time have had worse performances, so to me it just illustrates how special of a skater Sasha really was.

It makes me mad when people diss on Sasha Cohen for fall or any mistakes. What they dont know it that even doing ANY of that is a challenge. It take SO much practice to get it down and you dedicate you life to that. I

    • @annecohen8927
      @annecohen8927 2 года назад +1

There is a reason why people were ‘mad’ about Sasha, She could do better if she tried harder.. Most skaters that fall during their performance do feel that the audience are keeping a close watch, including the judges. Regardless, her other performances were better.

@Karosanyo she would be falling all over the place. yuna also had multiple back and hip injurys when she entered into the senior circuit (which is why she won worlds only in 2009) but she still medaled at every event to this day. she has the most beautiful choreography and she portrays it well through her long arms and legs. sure she doesnt have the best spirals & spins but she has the best ice coverage and speed in her spirals. the spins she does are also my favorite types of spins.

Also when all the judges look at Sasha, she feels that all eyes are on her and she's being judged by her required jumps, aside from artistry. I usually prefer seeing her perform in shows because she can really feel that she's in complete control of her destiny. And, she won't be criticized.

Sasha has the potential to succeed in high levels of competition, she has all the ropes to win but she retain herself to express her full potential artistic performance. One can win only if she can train her mental for a winning closure.

So sad that her Nationals fell apart in the long program. Her short was truly a thing of beauty and she commanded that ice. I wish they had chosen different music for her long skate because she always skated best with upbeat music. She was really able to get into her skate when it was set to fast paced music, it seemed to help pull her along. Either way she is amazing and I miss her skating.

@callawaygolfer01 ITA with this. Cohen looked in incredible shape. Yes she looks thin but that's her build (her mom and sister are tiny too). All muscle and very little body fat. The injury over the fall prevented her from training properly. It truly hindered her as to getting her jumps as consistent as possible. I had she comes back at least one more year. :)

Aw! This was a definitely a tough skate for Sasha. First comp of the season is always going to be difficult. She's such a lovely skater to watch and the potential is definitely there. On another note I've always thought it funny how people always bang on about the costume...Clueless banter from noobs who can't even stand in their skates (I will forgo my thoughts on the difficulty of landing triples) I liked it personally- I can see the connection between the shade, the music and moonlight.

this may sound horrible, but i do not mean this in an insulting way to her.. to me it look like there is a bit of a strength issue, and i feel this way throughout her career. She is gorgeous and tiny, but I feel like she could have benefited from maybe a little bit more muscle. Throughout her career I feel like she seemed a bit too frail, and some of those mistakes in the program seemed like she just didn't have the muscle to hold on the them. I don't mean she should have gotten huge...

@karlowens2 In my heart I would have sent her too-but that is not the American way. The best two on the night made it and Ashley deserved to be top 3. Sasha's jumps would have been more consistent had she trained more runthroughs but injury prevented it. SAD, pure sadness. I was there at the rink myself. Watching her stumble and fall really made my heart broken.
I have to agree with karlowens2. To be frank, i don't like the new judging system. It makes everyone looks the same, you don't see the uniqueness of each skater anymore, and one thing I have to say, figure skating is not just about "jumping". Although it is a big important part of it, but nowadays jumping seems become the dominating factor.

Could have done without the snide commentary. It’s obvious Sasha wanted to compete earlier but she was injured.

i know this! hahaha that was a response to someone's comment that stated that she would "screw up just like she did in 2006". i was saying it was amazing that she got second and she didn't screw up. i'm definitely team sasha. she's always been and always will be my favorite skater.

That doesn't mean squat if she can't land it in competition. A lot of skaters do jumps in practice that they don't do in competition.

Sorry but if you can land a jump in practice it does mean something.especially if it is the triple axel...All the armchair experts.
