Sasha could fall a million times and she's still more mesmerizing and breathtaking than anyone else. It's funny, I can't recall one other skater my name during her time. My eyes were fixed on her and it's after she retired that I started watching figure skating on a whole. She is special!
The reason I love Sasha so much more than other skaters is because of the strength she brings to the ring, and the control she has surpasses every other skater I've seen, right down to her fingers and perfectly angled feet, it's just stunning.
No one skates like Sasha anymore. Certainly one of the most gorgeous artistic and skilled lady skaters ever. If it wasn't for her inconsistency she would have been one of the greatest. She certainly is one of the most talented.
Seems like commentary throughout the years seemed to think that Sasha was superhuman and, unlike other skaters, couldn't or rather shouldn't make a mistake. But even with those errors, her skating far outshone many female skaters. That grace and artistic value she brought is yet to be seen again. The closest I have seen is Hendrix. Sasha may just have been the only of her kind.
Sasha Cohen was the most wonderful skater. It just proves that you don't have to win a World Championship or an Olympic Gold Medal to be the greatest skater..
I also love the way her arms open and extend slowly in time with the music at the start of the program and then again right before the salchow - it captures the cool suspense of the music and just adds to the calmness and elegant composure of the program/character
Even if Sasha Cohen didn’t have the best consistency, I love this skater. And to think still in 2023, she’s the last American woman to stand on an Olympic podium. We are long overdue. We will see what happens for the Milano-Cortina games!
Exactly! And look how the commentators and people used to try tear her down. That has been the best medal position at the Olympics for many years and who knows if we will see a repeat at the next one or any time soon.
Still without question the most beautiful, elegant and all around artist of all time. She is not engaged to be married...but it will be a long time before Sasha Cohen will ever be surpassed on ice. Sasha is the standard bearer to this day.
+JoJo Kadilihopper Figure skaters today can only dream of mastering the moves and perfect positions that Sasha had. There are many who try to imitate her techniques today but no one has mastered her perfect lines, balance and positions yet. She is/was a figure skating phenom for her time.
This is one of my favorite performances of all time. If she had just cut down on the mistakes, no doubt she would've been the greatest skater. Her artistry is perfection. Program was absolute magic
Beautiful. I know nothing about ice-dance..it's not something of great interest to me. But this...I started watching and couldn't look away. Her grace and feeling are lovely, and she's just...at one with the ice. Beautiful.
Sasha Cohens artistry is exquisite. I am a visual coordinator that has staged ballet. Even if figure skating is more focused on athleticism Cohens' artistry is exceptionally brilliant. She has some of the best figure skating choreography ever. As Tatiana Tarasova concludes, Sasha Cohen is talent with a capital T. I can tell how connected Cohen is within the Romeo and Juliet love theme. She may have struggled containing her emotions and quite possibly that may have adversely effected her concentration in some jumping passages. When I watch this production it brings real tears to my eyes. Her spirals and the Cohen take my breathe away. No other figure skater or dancer within history has that affect on me. She is one with the music. I totally believe that Sasha Cohen is very loving with her heart hidden deep within a labyrinth. The world is a cruel place. Sasha Cohen is one of the best figure skating artist of all time, and is for sure my favorite skater. I'll accept a technical mistake for her exquisite artistry any day. She is Juliet.
Abshalom Mil-Alsberg you ought to give dick button credit for that direct quote "i'll accept a technical mistake for her exquisite artistry any day" and sandra bezik for "she is juliet" :)
Abshalom Mil-Alsberg i totally agree i wish skating was more focused on the presentation am artistry. Now a days its all about the triple triple triple combos am triple axels an now women are doing an attempting. Quads skating is not what it used to be sasha was one of a kind irreplaceable i agree her artistry an presentation of juliet an Romeo was flawless
This definately has to be one of Sasha's greatest performances and I'm always amazed by how it's done but I still think my favorite of Sasha Cohen's performances is Borat.
Sasha had the most gorgeous line, beautiful artistry, perfect spirals and unmatched extensions. Too bad she couldn't stay consistent; otherwise, she would have won multiple Nationals and Worlds as well as an Olympics Gold.
That was the problem - she was never consistent and always made errors (mainly in the long programs). Despite the beautiful artistry she never held it together well to become a champion on a time length basis.
@@auntiechercher4266 I will assume that under pressure her nerves were elevated. It has been said that she'd be great in rehearsals even long programs. I suspect stage fright which as a musician can relate. I'd be so prepared that when starting I just went into regimen. Similar to skaters and sometimes in large events like conducting a collegic marching band with boo coos of people all around and eyes on me; that could grate my nerves.
@@abshalommil-alsberg1997 I won't disagree with you, but on the other hand she DID always do beautiful short programs (in was always in the long that she fell apart). Wow, I haven't seen this program in almost 10 years. I have to say this has got to be one of the most exquisite programs I have ever seen in my entire life. Every movement was sheer poetry in motion. For some reason, back in 2006, I didn't care for this program at all. As if I was blinded by all the changes happening in skating, especially then being an Olympic year. But compared to today's kind of busy and jam-packed skating, this program will be remembered as a watershed moment in our sport because I believe it was the perfect blend of technical content and wonderful artistry, which has essentially gone away thanks to the perpetual pushing of the sport to newer heights of technical difficulty. Also, my hats off to David Wilson who created this masterpiece. Though this program didn't win gold at the 2006 Olympics, he was able to re-choreograph it for Yuzuru Hanyu, who skated this music and won the top prize at the 2014 Olympic Games.
Hanyu had a nice skate, and Wilsons recreation was nice. I am still partial to the artistry of Sasha's program. What happened to the spirals? No one has Sashas or Kwans spirals now of days. I've lost a lot of interest in the sport.
I think Sasha always had breathtaking positions, but, for me, that never equated with "irreplaceable artistry" as some have described. She sure had talent, and I really wish it had been truly realized, b/c her positions and music selection were glorious.
I totally agree, Sasha's flow is so unique! it's so so sad that you get the most points from jumps. sigh. on the other hand I understand it -- they are the difficult. yay for artsy programs!
Sasha always did the most beautiful spirals. You almost never see the ladies do spirals anymore and if they do, they seldom cover as much ice as Sasha used to.
She looked rather frail in the face the beginning, you could tell she wasn't feeling well at all. But if she had done this exact performance in Torino it would have been more than enough to win. It's such a shame she aggravated an old injury after the SP because she looked amazing and was so ready.
Though its cleaner, i'll always prefer her Olympic performance of this, the way she came back from such a terrible start, truly inspiring I hope she can do well in 2010, come on Sasha!
My favorite skater is MIchelle Kwan, Sasha is among the ones like because of her amazing flexibility, flexibility that gives her skating a more WOW factor, I think is unfair to call her a bad skater because her inconsistency, she is a great skater that have had inconsistency problems in her skate.......but still a great skater.
