      @@TT-ee4qp you mean Michelle Kwan? Whether she was influenced by Michelle or not their execution of the moves were/are still different. When Michelle skates there is quite a lot of power to her spins whereas Sasha is a bit weaker on her spins(less power), but still very graceful. Sasha is like a ballerina when she skates and I still believe that ever since she first came on the scene. All the world class skaters I have watched are phenomenal skaters, but they are not quite like her the way she does it. She is very unique even if her performances are not perfect.

      Bnizzofashizzo but sasha didn't practice as much as she should have. You cannot be bias. Sasha was a talker. She cared too much about being sponsored and all the attention. She didn't push herself enough. All the coach changing was bs. They tried to help her, but sasha played the victim.

    • @L1623VP
      @L1623VP 6 лет назад +13

      Briane: Yes, and Sasha was well-known for having contentious relationships with her coaches because she could not take direction. She always thought she knew best and never really trusted anyone who coached her. She's even on record as saying, "Ultimately, it's me out there on the ice, and that's why I make all the final decisions."
      John Nicks called her his "boss" during a press conference, and he wasn't even kidding. Cohen dumped Nicks for Robin Wagner after Sarah Hughes won gold in 2002. In the fluff piece that aired before Cohen's Torino LP, by which time she'd already dumped Wagner to go back to Nicks, Robin Wagner had some very pointed things to say about Cohen and her problems with trusting a coach and being able to take direction. It was so honest and candid, I was surprised they aired it.
      Even David Wilson, the choreographer, was interviewed on Ted Flett's Golden Skate and shared about the major diva attitude Cohen had at the time. He said that after he arrived at the rink, Sasha informed him that she wasn't "into" learning any choreography and just wanted to skate around the rink to the music he provided...for a full day-and-a-half, while Wilson sat there and and did nothing but chat with Cohen's coach and mother...who also did nothing. After nearly two days of this, Cohen finally let them all know she was ready. No kidding. In the end, Cohen was her own worst enemy and why she could never put two clean programs together in the same competition. Her name is synonymous with unrealized potential, and it's all because of her. After all, she lost the gold medal to the 9th ranked skater in the world at the time. That says it all.

      Assuming this is true…. It is unorthodox but her problem was never bad choreography. What she did was beautiful. It might have been better to simply not invite a choreographer. And Robin Wagner has a flash in the pan- she’s no great genius. Nicks has a far superior track record. Child prodigies are unusually unusual.

    David Wilson is a master collaborator. Nikolai choreographed this program first, but David Wilson is the one that came along and modify the music cuts and edits, as well as filled in a lot of the empty spaces with sublime choreography for Sasha.
    I’m not going to even discuss the two jump failures because it is what it is. Her actual skating however, amazing. It was so hard to hear her say “ i tried, i just couldn’t get up on those jumps”... heart breaking. Her skating however and spins... the correlation to the music... it’s like skaters today haven’t even seen her because why wouldn’t you try to emulate her?

    I loved this program of hers. I've never been a fan of hers because I've always been a Kwan fan, but this was beautiful. She would have won easily without the mistakes. Unfortunately, I think she let the pressure get to her. I think that's why Kwan didn't win either. This is a once in a lifetime thing for most (Kwan would have won twice) but it's all up in the air once you're all alone out on that ice. They were thinking more of the "what ifs" instead of just skating. I think the pressure was more on Sasha because she was coming into this being 1st after the short program. I'm just glad she beat Irina. And I'm happy for Shizuka.

      Some people deserved the Olympics gold but never got it with bad lucky, like Michelle. At 1998, Tara was overrated and Michelle was robbed. Tara had a incorrect 3+3, she had a kid's body and weight so easier to jump, nothing more. Michelle's program was classic, beautiful and womanly. At 2002 ,unfortunately Michelle fell, and Sarah did a good job to win. Michelle was more greater than Tara and Sarah in the history, but the Olympics night wasn't belong to Michelle, so sad.

      This was one of the best performances in Olympic history, but it was not the best technical display. How would you give gold to a performance that didn't have a completed Lutz in 2006?

      penny miller well Slutskaya fell on her 3Lo and did a 2F instead of a 3F, two mistakes that cost her the gold and the silver. Also, her artistry was god awful compared to Cohen and Arakawa and she shouldn’t have even been considered equal to them!
