This program would have been one for the ages and one of the great performances in Olympic history if she didn't have those two early mistakes. A story by Shakespeare set in Italy with music from a Italian composer from a movie directed by an Italian and being skated in Turin Italy. It was a program meant to win a Gold medal for Sasha truly was Juliet.
You could see as she left her coach at the boards it was going to be a problem for her. Absolutely no confidence. But Sasha had some of the greatest talent ever.
Sasha _always_ hit the most beautiful, perfect positions in a time that she was allowed to hold them long enough to enhance the beauty. I've been following figure skating since 1960 and I'm beginning to hate today's skating.
Check out Isabeau Lovito. She's bringing back the artistry, along with exceptional technique. Sasha is a legend though. Her spins were perfectly centered and her spiral sequences were magnificent.
@@bevinboulder5039 I remember Sasha smiling during her spirals, though, and during her fiesty short programs. I just love to see someone enjoying their journey..
Her incredible artistry is transcendental. She is so much more than a figure skater. I’ve still yet to see anyone who makes me feel the way I do watching her. A true artist.
@@TT-ee4qp you mean Michelle Kwan? Whether she was influenced by Michelle or not their execution of the moves were/are still different. When Michelle skates there is quite a lot of power to her spins whereas Sasha is a bit weaker on her spins(less power), but still very graceful. Sasha is like a ballerina when she skates and I still believe that ever since she first came on the scene. All the world class skaters I have watched are phenomenal skaters, but they are not quite like her the way she does it. She is very unique even if her performances are not perfect.
David Wilson is a master collaborator. Nikolai choreographed this program first, but David Wilson is the one that came along and modify the music cuts and edits, as well as filled in a lot of the empty spaces with sublime choreography for Sasha. I’m not going to even discuss the two jump failures because it is what it is. Her actual skating however, amazing. It was so hard to hear her say “ i tried, i just couldn’t get up on those jumps”... heart breaking. Her skating however and spins... the correlation to the music... it’s like skaters today haven’t even seen her because why wouldn’t you try to emulate her?
I loved this program of hers. I've never been a fan of hers because I've always been a Kwan fan, but this was beautiful. She would have won easily without the mistakes. Unfortunately, I think she let the pressure get to her. I think that's why Kwan didn't win either. This is a once in a lifetime thing for most (Kwan would have won twice) but it's all up in the air once you're all alone out on that ice. They were thinking more of the "what ifs" instead of just skating. I think the pressure was more on Sasha because she was coming into this being 1st after the short program. I'm just glad she beat Irina. And I'm happy for Shizuka.
Some people deserved the Olympics gold but never got it with bad lucky, like Michelle. At 1998, Tara was overrated and Michelle was robbed. Tara had a incorrect 3+3, she had a kid's body and weight so easier to jump, nothing more. Michelle's program was classic, beautiful and womanly. At 2002 ,unfortunately Michelle fell, and Sarah did a good job to win. Michelle was more greater than Tara and Sarah in the history, but the Olympics night wasn't belong to Michelle, so sad.
I think if Sasha and Tonya Harding joined together and became spin coaches, they’d produced brilliant spinners. Imagine having Tonya’s speed and strength, with Sasha’s positions and flexibility. Man, what a combo.
Agreed! Tonya didn't get as much attention for her spins as she should have, because her triple axel was her major attraction (and yet, in my estimation, not her main/best contribution to the sport). Her spins were exceptionally fast and well-centered.
penny miller well Slutskaya fell on her 3Lo and did a 2F instead of a 3F, two mistakes that cost her the gold and the silver. Also, her artistry was god awful compared to Cohen and Arakawa and she shouldn’t have even been considered equal to them!
Wow, I'd forgotten how badly she choked, right off the bat. Did Sasha ever complete an Olympics or Worlds without falling? Such a shame, she was so beautiful on the ice.
Sasha earned her Olympic silver medal! Despite occasional technical issues, she skated the most glorious performances of her career!
This broke my heart seeing it live. After the two spills, the performance is breathtaking and inspiring.
The judges extended alooooot of grace to Cohen here. She probably would have won gold had she not made a mistake after that initial fall.
Does anybody know the version that stars at 4:10?

👍👍👍
poor Sasha
She never gave up.
The performance.. ruined by the incessant Japanese commentary!!
That spiral sequence is the best there has ever been.
None Lovelier...
You could see as she left her coach at the boards it was going to be a problem for her. Absolutely no confidence. But Sasha had some of the greatest talent ever.
Frumoasă.....
The commentators just don’t stop talking until the music change when she shut them up with her amazing acting haha

@@valmacclinchy Yes! Isabeau has definite Sasha vibes.
@@bevinboulder5039 Isabeau smiles when she skates..refreshing to see that in a sport at that level of competition
@@valmacclinchy Yes, she can do that because she is so secure in her jumps. It's hard to smile when you're crashing and burning all the time.

I think she is one of the most artistic and elegant skaters of all time! Breathtaking!!
Yes, Sasha's artistry as well as Michelle Kwan. But her jumps....
Sasha Cohen…reliably inconsistent
Lol
Let's see you try it. Sasha is a legend in the figure skating world. Brilliant artist.
She didn't get any pop or snap on the takeoff of either her opening lutz or flip, had to be nerves, it looked so slow to start the rotation
💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

I always go back to her performances because her style is completely her own. Very unique
@@shellyt556 Michelle's artistry impacted Sasha. Sasha told people that she learned a lot from Michelle's performance when she was young.

Sasha's artistry was just second to Michelle kwan , and much better than Tara Lipinski or Sarah Hughes.

Sasha Cohen had such amazing artistry that you would've thought the 3Lz and 3F errors in the beginning were part of the choreography
I thought so🤣
Baiul's The Swan and Cohen's Romeo and Juliet, absolutely breathtaking.
4:34 exquisite
She never was a good jumper.
You can see immediately that she is doubting herself. Her problem is psychological.

Change of edge spiral is Michelle's signature move. And I agree Sasha's spiral is beautiful.
Except for the falls she did a great job, Nicole Bobek did similar in 1995 World Championship.
A mistake to put those jumps in the front of her program.
Yup !! Sasha has not settled in yet on ice...she should be unnerved a bit before the highest point jump combo .
