Perfection bottled in the exquisite graceful body of Sasha Cohen. This had me bawling when I watched it live. I was Soooo So happy for her. This type of skating will most likely never be seen again, we now have so much mechanical jumps that they seem to have forgotten that a sport can be beautiful as much as it is skillful. Sasha may not ever truly know what she brought to millions of fans and to the sport itself. I am grateful i had the chance to see her grow from Juniors to the Olympics and Worlds.
This was the first time I saw Sasha perform and it was live. I was shocked to speechless! Nobody could or can convince me that there's some skater anywhere better than this. None. Has anyone repeated that last spin in that exact manner since? Oh, and there are some other moves I have never seen in some of her performances elsewhere. Maybe one day I will watch in detail again to tag the unique yet-to-be-repeated moves from the Queen herself!
Here it is,2024, and I’m still watching the gorgeous Sasha Cohen, the most beautiful, artistically gorgeous skater of all time. Nobody could pull off ballet on ice like Sasha. Watching her skate was pure grace.
Yes, I feel the same. Sasha is ballet on ice. Masterful footwork. Her musicality is unparalleled and her spiral positions are exquisite..this performance was perfect. 💖
Me too, Michael and the one at 15, 2000, short program, same dress, stunned the world with new techniques, a pioneer for the new millenium. A bright star of mankind!
One of the greatest artistic performances of all time! Sasha Cohen was the most balletic and naturally gifted skater I've ever seen, she simply couldn't handle the pressure of competition and usually made major mistakes at World championships and Olympics. However this performance shows what she was capable of; stunning, gorgeous!
@@karennoble4957 Absolutely 💯 Sasha was born to perform on the ice. Her spiral sequences, splits, and spins are iconic. She was always one with the music. 💖
Really is such a shame she couldn’t always be this consistent because she would without a doubt have become a world and Olympic champion. There’s been no skater that has come close to her artistry!
Michelle's artistry is better. Actually, Michelle impacted Sasha, Sasha told people that she learned a lot from Michelle's performance. Yuna Kim also inspired by Michelle.
@@TT-ee4qp I think Sasha would have developed and come along better if Michelle had left the ranks! She hung on too long; esp. by 2005 picking herself up in qualifying! It made no sense except she wanted to keep the money flowing! ;-) fiero4251.blogspot.com/2016/10/fan-page-evgeni-plushenko.html

@bryce, I agree! Sasha's positions are so exquisite, her spiral sequences are iconic, and scratch spins are divine. She doesn't just skate to the music, she becomes the music. ❤
I think the 2003-2004 season was the best for Sasha. The quality of her jumps were so solid and straight that season. This was a perfect way to end a great year!
Agreed. Most of her LPs that season were pretty consistent, with only a two-foot or 1 error. And that season had my 2 favorite programs of hers, Malaguena and Swan Lake.
This was absolutely stunning! When she skated like this and kept her focus and took one jump at a time, she was damn near impossible to beat. Absolutely exquisite interpretation of Swan Lake.
100% agree. This girl is still one of my favorite skaters. MC is still #1, but is SC was more consistent, she would be at the top. This performance was fierce as $#IT.
4:32 As everybody gags at the unusual and striking arm positions on Sasha's scratch, I want to point out that the centering of the spin doesn't get better than this: it's perfection.
I really miss this type of figure skating. Absolutely beautiful. You don’t get this quality of skating anymore. What a tough era of skating to compete in.
There's no one that can say one bad thing about this performance. It's absolutely perfect..the jumps, the spins, the artistry. Ugh this is what is missing in figure skating today.
You're right. Even Vera Wang said that she really liked Sasha's costumes. My favorite is the blue Rachmaninoff dress she wore at the beginning of the 02-03 season.
Sasha will ever remain a beautifully artistic skater, my favorite. Dick Button, the most critical voice, proclaimed her the best in the business. Brilliant!
Skaters of the past were really allowed to feel the music. Todays skaters, while still very impressive, seem like they don't even have time to feel and interpret the music to tell a story. Until you get to ice dance/solo ice dance, I believe this art is preserved in ice dance alone
I'm a Kwan fan, but this program was perfect for Sasha. And this skate, was the best she ever performed it. Compare this skate to her 2003 Campbell's performance (which was also amazing). That one was so focused on her spins and spirals. But this performance, it showed that she could jump and I liked that.
COP was used during the gran prix that year. Tarasova choreographed a program that would pull in points so Sasha could win ... even if she fell. Tarasova was a smart coach!!! From what I remember Sasha was too lazy to stay with her so she went to Robin Wagner. They split too and Robin even stated that Sasha didn't want to practice.
We had it good seeing exquisite once-in-a-lifetime skating from Sasha during her time but she was not appreciated for it. We get to look back and not even remember the others. Worse, the ones nowadays don't even come close. What's her name who was on drugs was the closest and we saw how that turned out. SASHA, THE IRREPLACABLE QUEEN OF FIGURE SKATING, WE MISS YOU!
I love the whole routine, it never gets boring! She's so good ! And that last spin at 4'32 is incredible. It seems that no one does it anymore, anyone knows why? I come from dancing and dont understand much about figure skating but really love watching!
sherryanng19 yes she fell a lot but her contributions to the sport are undeniable. she ushered in the importance of super flexibility, and also made an impact on the relevance of the grade of execution, esp. in respect of jumps and its phases. she is the so called princess of air position, she is the standard model used to teach air position using dartfish tech., she created many spins positions that are now commonplace, etc...
What’s really missing in the programs today...glorious spirals, true level 4 choreo and step sequences...and that scratch spin...sigh..., tanos, flat blade assists and pre-rotated quad jumps packed into the last 90 seconds to gain bonus points just don’t do the sport any justice.
totally agree. skating becomes robotic and destroys young bodies. no one knows if these Russian girls ever will be able to mothers or live healthy lives. why not to buy a robot and watch at home if skating turns to be acrobatic gymnastics with the skates?
I wished more of the recent skaters took more of their time in doing lines and spins like this. Now no one ever does the the mové where they keep the leg up for a long time. And they dont take their time on the layback spin
I've never seen a more beautiful skater. Her lines, grace, and flexibility are exquisite. And, the speed during her final spin. Amazing.
No one skates like Sasha anymore. The artistic sensitivity, the absolutely gorgeous body line, the delicate beauty.

Arguably there is no skater in history with her artistry. This and her 2006 Olympic short program are her best IMHO.
That spin at the very end, I've never seen anything like it. Amazing!!!
