I love this scene. You have to imagine Conan, who has lived his whole life as a slave then as a gladiator. Treated like an animal: fighting, killing and breeding for an unknown master. Finally he wins his freedom and decides to take his revenge on the people who robbed him of his family, his youth, and his humanity. Yet he is killed before he can even fight Thulsa Doom, he speaks to him for a few minutes before being discarded, crucified on the tree of woe. He comes back from the afterlife, sneaks through hell, the bowels of Doom's sanctum and then sees "paradise". To see the orgy, to see Thulsa's inner sanctum is to take a glimpse into the world Conan never knew could be possible; a place of comfort and debauchery, a life without constant pain and suffering. To confront Thulsa here then is not simply to exact revenge, it is to fight the very God that has cursed Conan to a life of restless misery. It is appropriate that the music moves from Hephaestus to Jupiter. This orgy is a glimpse of the cruelty and arrogance of the Gods, and of men like Thulsa Doom. Conan pauses for a moment, then destroys paradise.
Because I know 40+ Greek composers that are absolute heaven, and yet only 2-3 are famous the world over. Among which one of worlds best composers of our modern era, Vangelis
J'ai revu le film récemment et ce qui surprend le plus c'est le rythme qui prend son temps. On ne pourrait plus faire le même film aujourd'hui. Un régal!
@@monan97 This piece may have taken inspiration from Holst's work, as well of other parts of the Conan soundtrack, but they are certainly distinct enough to be considered their own thing.
The saddest thing or lost to the seasons of this world theres really hasn't been such an amazing work like this of modern era really in music like this or such in this composer style and musician luckily blessed is our ears with after this piece and it was all done for a mire film also and R.I.P. Basil.☁️🗡💜👑☁️🍷☁️
I am 41 years of age. All I can say is just another film and score from the epitome of cinematic and musical brilliance - only found in the 1980's!! Seen the film countless times - a rich melody for a rather bleak and didactic scene personifying a grotesque element. Solid cast and epic plot!! Love my 80's!
A friend of a friend was into all kinds of music and I owe Alec a nod for honing my taste, but I remember taking bong hits in his basement listening to this cd. I was a huge fan of the movie but had never just listened to the soundtrack. This song blew me away and to this day it’s the first thing I think of about this awesome movie. Good times.
Love this track and love the fact that his daughter helped him out on it. Every time you hear the French horns piping in,that was her on her flute I believe.
Now after rewatching the movie after 25 years its one of my favorites again. What a hypnotic nostalgic song.Even after so many years this scene was stuck in my head because of the music.
I think the composer *must* have drawn at least some inspiration from "Bolero" for this piece since there is a similar emphasis on a repeating underlying motif which is very sensual and which gradually builds in intensity.
I can't stop to move my hips with this amazing piece, i love it from the first time i heard it, one of my fave scenes of all the times, i wanted to be one of the Talsadum adepts😉
This music being played increasingly louder as Conan and his D&D party penetrated the castle defenses... then the epic fight with Conan vs Bombassa...TO THIS MUSIC....WAS MY CHILDHOOD. "Ummm beloved i think theyre talking about the other-" SILENCE! destroyer was my childhood nostalgia i didnt get to see the other till i was 18
I am born 1995 never saw the film but fell on this song casually . I listened this song while hiking a mountain in greece Hydra ... best moment of my life until now reaching the mountain with that song on and on ❤
I've always loved this movie, this soundtrack, and this song especially. It's such a unique piece of music. This track and "Theology/Civilization" are the two that feel "off" as they are in 3/4 time (waltzes), rather than most of the rest which is in 4/4 (standard time). It immediately tells you that this is unfamiliar for Conan, who has only know loneliness, death, and misery. The tone of this track is something I can only describe as "perverse whimsy", with the low brass suggesting a circus, the cymbals suggesting a grand Roman parade in celebration of defeating a great enemy. It's the height of spectacle and debauchery, with the airy woodwinds playful, teasing, and hiding the darkness increasingly hinted at by the brass and timpani as the song climaxes.
I'm imagining Valeria wistfully tapping her sword as she confronts a 1v2 situation - then gracefully dispatches both opponents while performing a ballet like pirohuette leap... good times.
Read a long time ago that Dino De Laurentis wanted the soundtrack of Conan to tell more of a story than the actual dialogue. I think there's merit to that statement.
I chose to play this on my wedding when the feast began. Just cut the ending part and transitioned to another great music. My advice If you are going to get married make sure to take the opportunity to choose your soundtrack for the party
Music reminds me of my uncle Charlie masterfully whistling this instrumental 24hrs all day after my sisters and I watched this movie.. .and became one of my favorite soundtrack ..classic movie.:)
One of the most bewitching score ever composed !
Just try to imagine a modern movie having such a strong soundtrack like this, it just doesn't happen anymore.
"modern movies" lol is there such a thing without capes?
Impossible to replicate this. However, Guardians of the Galaxy did well! Although it was actually songs.

How on earth did I get 35 years old without having heard this MASTERPIECE even once, until some days before?!?! Cannot stop listening to it ~

Basil is such an underrated composer....this is one my favourite works by him❤
This wasn’t by Basil. Listen to Jupiter of Jollity by Holst. Holst died over 40 years before this was used in Conan.

Played this at my wedding when we told the reception the Bar was open. Half the guests got the joke. ... Half of the ones old enough to see the movie.

Agreed. I grew up in that time period too. Bliss brother!
Long live the 1980s!

Simplicity at its best. At least it sounds simple...Totally mesmerizing, exquisite and brilliant. Thank you Basil !

Polidorius, MASTER of music... The Mysticism and epicness in this whole soundtrack is beyond words... Absolutely magical, the mind of a genius
The composer Poledouris created fantastic - iconic music and its presentation in the movie "Conan" made both a success. Thanks for the presentation...
Borrowed from Holst. But so did many others...
"So this is paradise."

I brought the sound track all them years ago and still listen to it when I relax love it ❤
This is an amazing soundtrack, and this in particular an amazing piece. Right up there with Ravel's "Bolero" for sheer carnal voluptuousness.
I think the composer *must* have drawn at least some inspiration from "Bolero" for this piece since there is a similar emphasis on a repeating underlying motif which is very sensual and which gradually builds in intensity.
