Directed by John Milius and starring the relatively unknown Arnold Schwarzenegger, who, with his look and distant accent was the perfect embodiment of the character, created by Robert E. Howard in the early 1930’s, “Conan The Barbarian” is indeed a barbaric mammoth of a movie. Also starring James Earl Jones as the evil wizard Thulsa Doom, Max von Sydow as King Osric and the beautiful Sandahl Bergman as Valeria, this movie obviously didn’t care to receive an R-Rating and wanted to give the audience some raw stuff! Various Sex-scenes and most memorable: violence. Violence, which perfectly captures the intended feel of this fantasy world and still holds very much up to ‘brutal’ films nowadays. The cherry on the cake is of course the music by Basil Poledouris, who scored the hell out of this movie. Filled with great themes, chants and splendid orchestrations, which sometimes let you think you listen to a romantic score with influences by Miklós Rózsa here and there, this score remains unforgotten besides film music fans and gave the movie the final authenticity. Due to the length and richness of the whole score, it was decided to give it an extended 20-minute treatment here. Enjoy!
This powerful and emotional movie and soundtrack helped me through the death of my 6 year old son from cancer. Like conans sword were beaten and forged in life's hot and cold. " what good is steel compared to the hand that weilds it" The weapon we become is many times more powerful than steel could ever be. Thank you, Thulsa Doom. Rip JEJ
Better to use your hands to give love, to hug and caress than to kill and lift weapons and swords. Thanks for your comment. I am very sorry for the death of your little son.
I remembered the time when Conan and his friends enter the tomb of Tulsa Doom (the kitchen/the orgy) and I realized that the music score was so astonishing that I was almost unable to believe it. It feeled like a manifestation of good music and I will never forget this moment.
You should listen to Warner Bros. From the 1930s thru the 40s . for great soundtracks ...& Late 1950s thru early 60s different composer's.... you're missing out..!!!!!
YES! Finally! Thank you, Soundtrack Fred! One of my favorite movies and composers! I have the original soundtrack album for this movie and still love listening to it. Beautifully created suite! Thank you!
5:55 and 15:28 are the two i remember the most and both a classic to the movie. You hear the song and you know its from conan the classic movie.. the movie wouldn’t be the same without the music baril madd for this movie.
Great Epic Music !!! the great Poledouris perfectly evokes the almost "medieval" style with brass wind and big drums. The use of the mystical chorus and archaic (ethereal) harmonies with hollow fourth and fifth chords, in counterpoint to melodies on flutes and oboes, the string plays a secondary role unlike other composers of his generation ... Basil Poledouris knows about style, in Conan it combines wind and percussion instruments that were protagonists of the Middle Ages and before the Middle Ages (flutes, cleats and old oboes, shawms, cornet, old trumpets, drums and rattles, bells, etc.) although they are recorded with modern instruments the great Basil achieves that effect with the medieval orchestra. It is true that there are very Hollywood moments, but that is what sells in this industry, I prefer the original and personal sound that Poledouris achieves in many moments and not the typical Hollywood atmosphere. Bravo Basil Poledouris !!!
Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, and why we died. All that matters is that today, two stood against many. Valor pleases you, so grant me this one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, the HELL with you!
This appears directly from the movie, as the music is interrupted a few times and is quite erratic. It is NOT the original soundtrack as it has from 43 to 67 minutes based on version. I do not know who put this together, but this does not fit well and does not flow naturally from piece to piece. And it is short! Definitely prefer the original soundtrack album.
Hello Franklin, this is a wonderful suggestion! I always appreciated Richard Hageman's music for Ford films. Unfortunately most of his music, including "Stagecoach" didn't get a proper soundtrack release, yet. All we have is audio directly taken from the film (including sound effects and dialogue), thus we cannot achieve any satisfying result with that. I hope you understand. I wish I could get my hands on that great music one day but I guess we have to wait somewhat longer... Best! Fred
Hallo Fred. Echo hier.
Hast du No time to die schon gesehen ? Dir noch eine angenehme Woche MfG Echo Unready
@@EchoUnready Hallo nochmal! No Time To Die habe ich noch nicht gesehen.

Hollywood 😢
Ruhe in Frieden ❤😢

Superbe film et très belle musique de basil poledouris
One of my very favorite scores. Thank you Fred!!
Milius also co-wrote Apocalypse Now, and, was he a Nam vet?
The score was awesome! I imagine it was really hard to figure out what parts to trim for the suite and keep it right at twenty minutes...

Sensational, wind instruments, percussion, and pristine recording sound complete a great soundtrack, superior to film. Explosion of emotions.

Great soundtrack
Once it starts it almost sounds like Arnie's "Total Recall".
Totally correct.. Jerry Goldsmith copied from Basil
Are you sure, sucker?

Unfortunately, this soundtrack is too special to fit in 20 minutes. Fred is also aware of this that it has been over 15 minutes...
It's almost too good to be true that you included the original soundtrack ending instead of the new one. I hate the new one. It ruins the whole movie.
