Carvana ups and downs..
I have been looking for a truck for forever… I had test drove pretty much everything you can think of.. I was on auto trader every day for about a year after work looking for the perfect truck… there isn’t a perfect truck…
I had seen commercials of Carvana and heard of a few people thinking about buying a car off of carvana several times but never anyone I actually knew.
I was definitely skeptical like anything else the first time you do something.
- Finally pull the trigger on a 2018 Toyota tundra trd sport in blazing blue pearl on Carvana.com
o I have been to many dealerships checking out f150’s Silverado 1500, and Nissan titans.
o I got my preapproval letter from Bank of America b4 starting the process with Carvana because I know BofA has some great interest rates, for me it was 2.59%
- I pulled the trigger and purchased the truck on November 22nd 2020.
o This particular truck was at another lot, it wasn’t actually at a main carvana location, so the pictures weren’t as clear as the main ones and I couldn’t see the bed of the truck at all
- I go back and forth between bank of America and Carvana at least 3 to 4 times to try to mediate the deal.
o As it was thanksgiving week, things dragged out a big longer than normal.
o If I would have used carvana financing, that process probably would have been much smoother
- I schedule the FIRST delivery on December 1st at 10:30am EST
o The morning of December 1st @ 10:20am EST (facility is 45 minutes away mind you) the driver calls me up and she says this is a very big truck, she would feel more comfortable if I came and picked it up.. I assured her she was fine and to get help etc..
o 2 hours later at about 12:30 am EST - 2 hours after the truck was supposed to arrive.. she pulls up with the beautiful tundra on her truck.. then I see this picture.
o She says I will be with you in a minute… she looks to be frantically looking around for something.
o A few minutes later she tells me she has bad news.. she lost the keys… She tells me she will have to come back tomorrow.
o She also told me she had lost keys before… not a good feeling
- Later that day I call up carvana and tell them what happened. They ask me if I didn’t show up and that I had an emergency… that’s what the tow driver said. Tow driver lied and said I didn’t show up. I was a bit furious at this point…
o That same conversation they told me that they would be bringing a copy of a key the next day (no original keys).. then I would receive one original Toyota key in the mail a few days later… what about the second original key?
- They told me they would be delivering the truck at 10:30am EST on December 2nd (tomorrow)
- The next morning a new driver calls me up and says he was about to be on his way, but he tried to start the tundra and it wouldn’t start, also if they deliver the truck today, I wouldn’t receive a registration potentially until the next week because their registration lady is OOO today and the next day…
o very frustrated I call carvana, I ask for the manager, I speak with her (I will not name her), she is very courteous and professional. She says we have found the original keys.
o She also says they will be having a mechanic look at the truck to see what is wrong.
o About 3pm that day she says they replaced the battery and all is well. One of the keys needed to be reprogramed as well.
o She apologies for how badly the process has gone with me and she offers me an amazon gift card…
o She says she promises it will go smoother now, and she is putting her top guy on my case to deliver the truck on time and to help in any way he can.
- Scheduled delivery for Friday December 4th at 10:30am
o The driver shows up about 10 minutes early and the process was very smooth.
o Took for a tiny little test drive around the block, does the plates + registration.
o We found a few large scratches on top of the hood and on the roof. Took pics, got an email a day later about how to get them repaired (with Maaco) for free..
Overall, the experience was smooth (thank god for the manager straightening things out)
- I may have canceled my order if it weren’t for the courteous manager making sure everything was good to go

- So far so good, I had the truck inspected by Toyota, everything is good with the truck and I am very happy with it.
- I got about $1500 more for my trade than any other dealer would offer me. Toyota corolla was my trade.
- Pricing was on par with competition but it was a pretty smooth process overall.
- There were no extra fees on top of the truck…
- I would recommend to friends and family overall, I’m sure I will purchase from carvana again.
I bought a GX460 2 years ago from Carvana. The whole process was very smooth. No delay, no mishap. The only thing I didn’t like was it came with cheap floor carpet. It’s been 2 years now without a single problem with the car.

I just bought a car from them. Honestly, it was the easiest & fastest car purchase I've ever made. Paperwork took like 1/2 hour, was delivered to their facility a week later. The car only had 12k miles on it and essentially is brand new. Would highly recommend them.

I just purchased a dodge ram 1500 and I see that in most reviews the quality of the vehicle typically holds true to the description but now that it’s been a few months do yo have your title? How was the process of getting your title? I’ve read horror stories about that aspect of carvanna

@@Michael-hi5xt yeah, they got it to me three weeks post purchase, came in the mail w/ plates. I purchased it in May of 2022 and that was after the first round of layoffs so maybe they got their ducks in a row? I honestly had a great experience.

I just went through this and very similar, wouldn't start car was dirty inside and damaged in transit. 6 weeks for delivery, and the mileage was different than paper work..... they are getting it back

I just ordered a Impreza. I'm thinking my title should not be a problem as it's literally not far from me if I had time I'd go pick it up but since it's free delivery 🤷♂️. Hope its in as good a condition that's advertised If not I have a redicoulous amount of manufacturer warranty their standard warranty and I added the plus since it was only 28 extra on the payment

@@King_jeez215 They changed the delivery date and I had to cancel. My job isn’t very flexible. Also, it kinda created a few issues with my insurance, I had to pay the difference in the vehicle change even though the vehicle never came into my possession. It was about 50 bucks I never got back through State Farm 🤷🏻♀️

Thanks for the review on this process. I am considering a purchase through them, but wanted to gather as much info as possible beforehand. My one and only experience close to this did not turn out well. Times have changed and the processes seem to have improved. Thanks also for explaining the referral info!
I would avoid them at all costs! Go to a traditional dealership - most of them are now more willing to take your info over the phone and have everything ready and waiting for you when you get there. This was the case with my newly purchased BMW. The dealership had me send in all of my financials, my social, etc, and even text'd me their offer(s). They did a remote assessment on my trade via facetime and gave me my trade value on the spot. They then sent me a run down on the financing terms at certain down payment amounts and told me to choose which one fit my needs the most. I elected to put $1k down and my payments were only $490 a month. Had I been willing to put more down then obviously the payment would have been less. They gave me $16k for my trade and I only owed $11k. When I got to the dealership, I signed the papers which were already printed and waiting on my arrival. The car was already up front in the "sold" row with my name and a big sign in the windshield that said "SOLD - VIP - BEN". I got an included 3 year BMW maintenance plan which covers oil, tires, and brakes and the factory warranty was transferable and has 2 years left on it (or 100,000 miles whichever comes first). Carvana was going to finance me at 19% APR on a $25k Lexus - with total financed being approx $41,000! I got such a better deal doing it the "old fashion way"
Awesome video! I’ve been going through something similar, car got delivered to location prior to my house. Driver called me an let me know that there was damage that wasn’t described in the posting. Spoke with customer service, and they are having everything fixed. Also giving me a $250 check for the inconvenience.

Awesome video. Thanks for sharing your experience. I just placed an order for a truck + I'll be trading in my car. I've seen TONS of videos on Carvana buying experiences and I'd say half of them are as similar to yours; delivery to home is probably gonna be delayed. As a result, I opted to just deliver to the nearest dealer (about 70 miles). I'd rather drive 2 hours then have it delayed 2 weeks.
Yeah that is probably a good idea, but if there is something that delays you from taking delivery, thank you are out 4 hours of your time.

My Carvana experience was also painful. I did not finance, and they actually told me that caused the first delay in delivery. The delivery delays went on for 4 more scheduled and unmet appointments. And good luck getting your license plate and registration, that took 3 months, the vehicle was as expected, but I won’t use Carvana again.

I had a recent horrible experience with Carvana as well. Like you, I kept the car when I probably should have sent it back. I will never work with Carvana ever again. I had to fix issues with my car. I'd rather have one day at a car dealership then 2 weeks of torture with Carvana and have to fix everything with the car myself on my time. And Carvana's insurance is horrible.

I just bought a car a week ago, a 2017 Hyundai Veloster. The car is great but they overfilled it with oil by about 3 quarts. I caught it early and one of their shops fixed it for free. I'm pretty happy with it so far apart from that.

Yeah, at the end of the day carvana is pretty awesome. I had a not-so smooth experiance, but their return policy and no extra fees, not to mention their super high trade- in values.. make Carvana one of the best in the biz for buying a used vehicle. Nice video & review. I'm currently dealing with delivery issues from them too but overall process is still way easier than dealership 🤯🤯 IMHO.. I currently have one vehicle for 3 weeks while my vehicle I went with is delivered to the vending machine. Oh. & 1 OF THE KEYS WAS LOST. LOL. Haha, I'm not sure. It usually it is pretty hard. I will say, carvana made it right with me after all the nonsense they put me through. Great customer service. I love my vehicle and I would shop with them again.

Going through a similar thing with them constantly extending the delivery date because of things that should've been fixed before the car even got posted on the website. I placed the order on Dec 10 and as of today, Dec 30, it still hasn't been delivered. At this point I'm not even sure they'll be able to sell me the car at all, but I'll stick it through til the end and hopefully everything will work out in the end like it did for you.
Jae, I know it is painful for sure, but it worked out for me in the end. Stick it out, at least until you get the car. You always have the 7 days to return it. Make sure you get it inspected by a mechanic you trust during that 7 day period.

Loved to hear what you had to say about Carvana. I've just started working for the company recently and I do want to say that our Drivers should never decline to deliver a vehicle. Most likely because of how wide the wheelbase of the truck was, the bed has very little clearance when loading larger vehicles so you have to basically thread a needle with them. We are trained for this though so that is no excuse. It sounds like your location was not the best. Also, we do order keys for our customers ESPECIALLY if it was at fault of Carvana. From what I hear the company has had a lot of growing pains over the last few years and some drivers did not get the training they maybe should have. I hate that you had a bad experience man. Best of luck with you and I'm hoping you are still loving the truck.

We just pre-ordered a car on Carvana. We are in a fortunate situation in that it is for a 2nd vehicle. We can make do with the 1 car for the time being, so waiting is not a huge issue. I hope it goes smoother than this LOL. Honestly, we ended up driving hours and wasting so much time hassling with dealerships and private owners over 2 days, that we finally gave up and went with Carvana. The dealership game is a huge hassle.

Thanks for the video, I am getting ready to purchase a vehicle from Carvana, I am trading in my old car, I did get a good price on trade in, I am actually going to pick up the new vehicle from the vending machine, this coming Wednesday, the only problem I’m having is going to pay cash for the new car & due to my bank & Carvana’s finance people I had to drive over 300 miles & back to my old town to get a cashiers check to pay for the car because of neither banks will accept a third party to initiate the funds, so thanks again for your video it was very informative.

I had the exact same bad experience with Bank of America and Carvana. The problem was BoA. I cancelled their loan and went with Carvana financing (slightly higher rate) From there on everything went super smoothly
Still got a better rate with bofa so that's why I put up with the time..
So far using my own financing socks. I hope I like the car when it gets here

The only pain I had so far was it was a pain to get approved being a business owner. Only signed the contract one and getting delivered next month.

How does the referral work if I live in Texas? Most states have the 100/500 referral program mentioned in the video, but Texas only seems to have a “premium gift” referral program, so do I still qualify for the $500 off even though I live in Texas?

Save yourself a headache and do NOT buy from Carvana. I purchased a car in July 2020 and still have temporary plates 7 months later (they renew them every 45 days). Google "Carvana registration problems", you will find that many people are experiencing the same problem.
Gayle, I'm sorry you had such issues with your registration. I'm in Massachusetts and my registration came with my truck. I had no issues at all.

Glad I wasn’t the only one went through somewhat the same the did first car I picked out the day of delivery the driver texted me saying “ Unfortunately the vehicle was delivered to our office with a dead battery, scraps and scratches on the rear bumper and the electronic stability control is not working. I would strongly suggest swapping to a different vehicle as we cannot deliver this vehicle today and currently have no eta on how long these repairs will take. “ so yes I had to choose a new car which I did but it took them damn near 2 weeks for them to approve my down payment so I kept having to chooses a new date finally while I’m at work the new car gets approved expecting it tomorrow afternoon hoping I don’t get any more bad news.
Yeah I had to re-reserve my truck 3 times before I could actually get it. I'm happy with carvana one way or the other.
