    I grew up on Brays Bayou in the 1960'2 and 1970's, but the water was pretty nasty, so I never fished there. I used to fish a lot on Hermann Park Pond. Nice video!

    Suprized it didn't die anyway the amount of time it was out of the water. But should just try pinching the bread around the shank and leave the rest all jagged.

    I always feel torn when I catch tilapia out of the waterways here. I know it's illegal to release them, but there's no way in hell I'm eating fish out of the bayous, and it just doesn't feel right to kill a fish I'm not gonna eat lol

    Please find a time to visit Brays Bayou again. I found that this year the juveniles of Rio Grande Cichlid totally replaced the juveniles of blue tilapia (the area between South Loop West Lake to Main St). I wander whether Rio Grande Cichlids start out-compete the blue tilapia because of their similar but more aggressive nature.

      You know, it's an interesting thing. I read an article someone wrote titled something along the lines of "No, I Actually Don't Want To Pet Your Dog." It was a heavy handed, but very interesting, opinion piece about dog owners' tendency to assume everyone is ok with their dog invading their personal space. Generally, I don't mind because I like dogs, but when there's hooks and bait around, it does aggravate and worry me.

    Are you on the Herman park side? I would love to catch those Tilapia

    • @wildlifefishingshow
      @wildlifefishingshow  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, but you could probably fish that spot better by walking over the suspension bridge and fishing from the concrete stairs leading down to the water. Because of the flow of current in that spot, it's much easier to keep your bait where the fish are and play the current how you want. I haven't seen any tilapia there since Harvey came through, but I suspect it has more to do with the tempeature. They feed very actively in the heat of the day. Good luck!

  • @PrestonBozeman
    @PrestonBozeman 5 лет назад

    Is it safe to eat fish in those waterways?

    • @wildlifefishingshow
      @wildlifefishingshow  5 лет назад

      Definitely not safe. The water in Houston's bayous, especially post Harvey, are extremely polluted. Sometimes you can smell the chemicals in air.
      My personal rule is I never eat anything I catch North of the Freeport/Galveston coastline and South of Livingston.

    • @wildlifefishingshow
      @wildlifefishingshow  5 лет назад

      I wouldn't think so. Right next to a public park and the hospital district. I don't know what the actual regulations for bow fishing in this area are, but there are police and park rangers all over the place and they would probably dissaprove 😉
      It's too bad, because conditions are perfect for it. I recently bought a bowfishing rig to use on yhe show, and the thought defitely crossed my mind.
