I’ve heard that catch and release still causes death in a lot of the fish released. Is this bullshit? I’d like to hear from a fisherman or hunter. I want to fish catch a release more but I’m concerned.
'Best video ever...' Well, it's a great watch, and your self-deprecating humour is a rare and refreshing quality in angling vids. From my UK perspective it's fascinating to see these muddy, urban Texas waters and what a diversity of species they harbour. I am amazed that nobody else seems to fish them (apart from you and those Pigpatrol chaps). Can that be right? Tight lines...
Really got a lot out of the "lesson," today. The jack hammer didn't bother me much, I was just so excited about learning w what you were doing out there. Thank you so much.
I like catching channel cats. They can be almost as aggressive as bass. Caught 2 on bass spinner bait and bass jig. I couldn't tell the difference until I pulled them ashore.

I'm Gen-X and all I use is a Zebco 808 with 20 lb test and I have a Ugly stick and a super short Ice Fishing pole that I put a rubber pistol style handle on , the rod is about 3 feet total length . With 20 lb test string I usually get my weights & hooks back depending on the snag ? I also catch Bass , Crappie on lures with the 20 lb test and it's never been and issue . I guess do what works for you since there are a lot of do's & dont's when fishing for different species . I just do it how I have been since I was a 12 yr old Kid living on the Trinity River which was my literal backyard at the time . Cheers to you All !!
@@wildlifefishingshow looks like I have a new mission! I’m taking a trip to a Lake Fork in springtime to try and land some. I’ve seen posts with 50-60lb carp in there
I would recommend walking round the lake before you fish look for bubbles or fish jumping. I fish for carp in the uk and my pb is 47lb so hope I know what I'm talking about 🤣🤣
Question: Have you ever considered doing underwater footage in clearer waters? Like have a GoPro on a fishing line and throw out where you fish to see the schools around your bait. I've had multiple videos like this show up on my feed and they seem to be doing pretty good so I guess just a suggestion and something new.
Less bait is required on a mission so light and dainty. About the size of a golf ball is a good size pack bait. At that point your just lowering your hookup ratio if there's food everywhere. A 50lb carp will pick up and eat a single piece of corn if it comes acrost it.
Oh most know the bayous are jam packed with fish. Monsters because no is eating the fish out of those bayous lol. We're bot quite Florida, they have peacock bass in their drainage ditches!
Some other good spots on the bayous and creeks on the north side of town. You could do guided trips for asian anglers. They love carp fishing. The invasive species shouldn't be put back as per TPWD direction in the state fishing rules. Plenty of wildlife to eat them on the bank. Coyotes run the bayous at night. Might make a good meal. Great fishing.
You need to distinguish between common carp and grass “carp”. The grassers are invasive. The commons, not. Also, don’t throw them up on the banks! That is wanton waste of edible fish, also illegal re: tpwd regs.
I live in katy,TX I just moved to the Houston area from Atlanta about 3 years ago. I used to catch carp in Atlanta for years. I can't seem to find them here in Houston. Can someone point me in the right direction
In europ the middle weight of common carp is about 16 pound. But every session I catch a 20 pounder , and they are real fighters . The bigger ones plus 30 pound are verry hard to catch because they know the bait and the smell, so if you go real carpfishing you better take several kind of baits with you. Sommetimes I fish and for 2 hours I didnt get anny bites, and if I change my bait its the one afther the other . The biggest common carp I ever caught was 32 pound. But most of the carpfisher have caught common carp from over 40 pound . They only getting that big if they have lots and lots of food ....
The banging/jackhammering in the background reminds me of the time my wife drove home and needed a "little bit" of oil in her car. LOL the car was never the same.
Hey man. Great job with the Carp fishing. I just moved to Texas and I quite don’t know that much about carp spots. By any chance can you tell me where is that spot located at? I really wanna try it. Thank you
No, it's a type of sucker (carp are in the minnow family). They look and behave very similar through convergent evolution (two animals that are not closely related developing similar adaptations to fill similar niche's within their environments)
What's the harm of catch and release? Looks like he's doing it for sport not as a way to put food on the table . I live in Detroit and fish our heavily polluted waters of the Detroit and rouge river catch and release only. I also lived in Houston for 6 months a few years ago and spent every weekend in the Bolivar peninsula either saltwater or fresh water fishing. And boy let me tell you Houston fishing was the best fishing I've ever did in my life .

No but they're definitely in certain areas (young bull sharks). In one video I caught a 6 foot, 10 inch alligator gar that had a perfect semicircle bitten out of its pectoral fin. That could have happened if the gar had made a trip to the bay, as they often do, but it's just as likely it happened in the bayou.
