I never thought as a kid that Luke Skywalker would grow up to be so cool.
When BTAS came out, the Joker's voice acting was so good that there was a rumour it was a different "Mark Hamill," since no one could believe the bland, uninteresting, sister-kissing goody-two-shoes from Star Wars was the same person who gave such a nuanced, powerful, entertaining performance as the Clown Prince of Crime.
Yeah, when we were kids it seemed obvious to us that Harrison Ford was the cool one. But 35 years on, Hamill is the guy who's truly beloved and revered by the fans.

@@jessstuart7495 -- I laughed so hard when I saw the deleted scenes from Ep IV of a very un-cool Luke trying to impress his friends (and Biggs was the only one who had the time of day for him). As a little kid I thought that Luke was amazing, but getting older -- yeah I can totally see that now.

I love how much of a show boat he is, but in a good way he's not smug, and he deserves it all.

That, and on top of it he continues to pursue the art of acting. Like he says in the video he seeks out new roles, challenges he's never done before. It would be so easy to just sit on Luke Skywalker for the rest of his life, showered in all the money and admiration any man could imagine. But he doesn't, and the character behind that decision is absolutely incredible.

I only recently learned that he and his wife just celebrated their 40th anniversary. I think that says a lot about him as far as being just a nice guy.
He's "so down to earth" he's literally bragging that he can't be fired from one of the biggest movie franchises in history.
@@sallyatticum I think there are appropriate levels of arrogance, and inappropriate. He is LUKE SKYWALKER. He knows his value--but every fan who has met him says he is very nice and sweet. He strikes me as appreciating the gift he was given rather than thinking he deserved it, like some.

@@sallyatticum but that was literally a joke about how he's been tied to these movies for the last 40 years... of the 3 original leads he's always been the one to care about the fans and the franchise the most. Harrison Ford is infamously "only in these for the money" something he's said multiple times in interviews. Carrie Fischer, while she did recognize the movies made her career never really having them be all the a lot of fans knew of her.

We all love Star Wars but sometimes I wish just one person would ask about his role in The Big Red One, he doesn't have a lot of lines but his performance as a soldier who cracks and unloads his gun is superb acting and never ever gets talked about, he did do a couple of other films not just SW.

That is one of the best films. The scene that book ends the film gets me where the German soldier tells the Americans the war is over, and they fight so hard to save his life (mirroring the opening scene in a way) just gets me.

That was Amadeus. The actor who replaced Mark won an Oscar for the role. Mark Hamill was cheated out of a successful post Star Wars movie career unlike Harrison and Billy Dee. But at least he had a highly successful voice acting career to fall back on.

Mark is truly one of a kind. He is funny and aware of how his status can affect people. He got me good at the Dark Horse celebratory event in the 90s. He came up and asked about the game we were demoning...and me being the demostration master ...I started telling him about the various aspects of the game (WH40K)..then I finally turned to address any questions and saw who he was...I was speechless. He chuckled as said I obviously did not know who I waz talking to...but praised my ability to explain the game. I had his autograph and a picture ..but they have been lost during multiple moves in the 25ish years since it happened.

Knightfall is a great show, enjoying Mark's character now, didn't like his intro but he grew damn fast on me
One of my pet peeves about most talk show guests is that they NEVER acknowledge that there is an appreciative audience sitting there literally a dozen feet away and they only focus on the host and nothing else. I went to some tapings of The Tonight Show and I was amazed at how many of the A-List guests don't even smile at the audience. These are people who have requested tickets, drove to the studio location, waited in line to finally be seated and the celebrities hardly even notice that they are there. Mark Hamill on the other hand really shows fan appreciation and lets them show their appreciation in return. He's not grandstanding, he's just saying thank you for making me someone who is able to be here (and not in the audience). He's appreciative of his fans and lets them know it every time he opens his mouth. Thank you Mark, we love that our emotional, financial, and time traveled (40 years and counting) journey with you has produced someone whom we can all be proud of and proud to say that "we knew you when...". Love ya' buddy!
When I was nine, I helped backstage on a production of Guys and Dolls. It was very small, but there's a small role spoken over the phone, and the director managed to get Mark Hamill to record the part. He's such an honest guy and so genuine and so insanely talented.

As much as I love hearing about behind the scene moments on Star Wars from Mark, I would love to hear an interview where the beginning is the interviewer makes a ground rule that they won't talk about Star Wars and if it comes up Mark or the interviewer have to make a high pitch noise in order to stop and get back on track.

I attended his two panels at the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. He’s an excellent speaker. Animated, funny, spellbinding. He can hold an audience and never be boring. Talented and humble through and through.
