  • Hawthorn in multiple trunk style. Collected from a quarry by previous owner. Trained by Corin from raw yamadori over the last 6 years. Fibreglass pot made by owner.
Cyprian Cedar, Cedrus brevifolia. Styled by Harry Tomlinson at the International Convention in Birmingham in 1991. Now over 75 years old actual documented age. Recently potted into a Sher-ming Chinese bonsai pot.
Japanese Mountain Maple, Acer palmatum. Root over rock style, from the collection of Harry Tomlinson. Now styled and worked on by Corin. Potted into a Isabella ceramics bonsai pot.
Cedar of Lebanon, Cedrus libanii. Formal Upright style. Started bonsai training in 1987. Was introduced into the collection 2 years ago, and has gone from strength to strength. Potted into hand made Chinese Master Shu bonsai pot. Currently guys wires are being used to lower branches.
Trident Maple, Acer buergerianum. Root over rock style. Imported from Japan a few years ago. Came in to Greenwood as a part exchange against a larger specimen. Now resides in Corin’s collection. Planted on to such a beautiful piece of ibigawa rock. Potted into a vintage Walsall studio ceramics bonsai pot.
Cedar of Lebanon, Cedrus libanii. Bought around 10 years ago, part trained when purchased, styled by Corin at Bonsai bash around 7 years ago. New front recently chosen and re-potted into a stunning Klika ceramics bonsai pot. The texture of the pot was chosen to compliment the aged bark of the Cedar.
Antarctica Beech, Nothofagus. Corin added this to his collection around 3 years ago, A rare tree to see grown as Bonsai. Amazing colour and texture to the old bark, it has been paired with a custom made bonsai pot by Gordon Duffett.
Shishigashira Maple, Acer palmatum ‘Shishigashira’. This tree was hand selected in Japan by Corin during the World Bonsai Convention 6 years ago. It has grown on so well in that time. Now residing in a Chinese Sher-ming bonsai pot, chosen for when the tree displays bright orange/red colour leaves.
European Larch, Larix decidua. Originally yamadori material from Europe. Owned by a customer until last year when he sadly passed away. This tree has since been kept at Greenwood in his memory. Re-potted into a vintage Ian Baillie pot, chosen to compliment the aged bark of the collected tree.
Purple maple, Acer palmatum ‘Dissectum’ Bought in the late 1960’s as a young plant from Woolworths by Harry Tomlinson. Featured in his book - ‘The Complete Book of Bonsai.’ Potted into a Sher-ming Chinese double fired bonsai pot.
Ukon Japanese Maple, Acer palmatum ‘Ukon’ Assembled as a group from individual trees by Harry Tomlinson around 1984. Re-worked and 7 trees removed to make a more compact group in 2020 by Corin. Chinese Sher-ming pot chosen in dark glaze to contrast against the bright Spring leaf colour.
Seigen Japanese Maple, Acer palmatum ‘Seigen’ Originally imported from Japan by Greenwoods. It was out on the benches for sale for over 3 years with no takers. So it’s now been withdrawn from sale and retired! Potted 2023 into vintage Japanese Haramatsu Bonsai Pot.
Deshojo Japanese Maple, Acer palmatum ‘Deshojo’ Imported from Japan. Added to Corin’s collection 5 years ago. Potted into a Sperling Keramik Bonsai Pot.
Japanese Larch, Larix kaempferi. Styled as root over rock over 30 years ago. Potted into a vintage Walsall Studio Ceramics bonsai pot. Very dark glaze to contrast with bright spring and Autumn colour of the Larch.
Chinese Quince, Pseudocydonia sinensis. What can we say, a recent addition to the collection. Originally field grown in Japan for circa 50 years!!! Exfoliating bark, amazing colour. Potted into a Walsall Studio Ceramics bonsai pot. Notice areas where Corin removed branches and stubs 8 weeks ago, on the lower trunk, callous is already forming in such a small space of time!!
Western Hemlock, Tsuga heterophylla. Styled by Corin from nursery stock around 15 years ago. Formal upright style, planted into vintage Gordon Duffett bonsai pot.
Deodar Cedar, Cedrus deodara. Trained from part styled overgrown material for around 10 years. Very vigorous, lots of pruning needed to keep it in shape. Recently trimmed, due to be fully wired Summer 2023. Planted into Chinese bonsai pot.
Seiryu Maple, Acer palmatum ‘Seiryu’ For over 20 years this has been styled by Corin, since being imported. This year it is looking especially nice. Recently it has been potted into a most beautiful pot by French bonsai potter Greg ceramics. Koto-No-Ito Japanese Maple, Acer palmatum ‘Koto-no-Ito’ Owned by Corin for over 20 years. Very unusual cultivar for bonsai with its long spidery leaf character. Potted into a hand made pot by Christine Beresford. Arakawa Japanese Maple, Acer palmatum ‘Arakawa’ Imported from Japan and styled over the last 5 years by Corin. A hard to control cultivar of Japanese Maple. Exhibiting aged rough bark texture. Crackle glazed Gordon Duffett bonsai pot was specially commissioned for this tree to match the bark.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video as I"ll never make it to the UK to see these in person. What a beautiful display! I especially appreciated you explaining the choice of the pots for each tree and why. I enjoy watching all your videos, and appreciate your style of working on the trees, it;s so calming and relaxing.
I became interested in Bonsai back in the 1990s when we were able to go to Japan. We had hosted Japanese exchange students for many years so the school treated a group us host parents to 3 weeks in Japan, all expenses paid, as a thank you. While there we toured a nursery that specialized in Bonsai trees and they had a tree on display that was over 1,000 years old! I was hooked, but only enough to appreciate them from a distance. Now that I'm retired and in my 70s, I've finally tried my hand at creating a few Bonsai trees of my own. They are little and pretty pitiful compared to what you have, lol, but I love them because they are my creations. Thank you for your inspirations!

Visitors were treated to two wonderful displays over the weekend. The first involved an impressive collection of magnificent miniature trees. The second involved an impressive collection of empty booze bottles in the recycling bin. Thanks Greenwood Bonsai for the Bonsai Bash. Not enough hours in the day to do it justice! Magic.
