Bonsai is undoubtedly an art in patience but waiting 10yrs for an air layer to root is going beyond the call of duty. Absolute respect for that. Your collection is awe inspiring. Thanks for the tour.
See once you do an air layer there's no going back. His only choice was to continue to care for the tree so long as it was still alive. Now that tree has immense value to him. I have a juniper grown from a cutting that took 3 years to root. Then again when most of the care is proper watering and protecting all of your trees it all becomes routine. We can only do our part and the tree's have to do the rest!
Wow! Thank you so much for the tour. My heart is full from your lovely narration. I am looking forward to what Nicolas brings forth from your life's work. Bravo Maestro!
Wow. What a fabulous collection. I'm 62 and although I've been a gardener all my life, it's only in the past few years that I've taken to bonsai. If only I would have started when I was younger! Greetings to your sweet Oreo.
There's no question that you are a master artist. All of Canada should be proud of you. Thanks for sharing the view of the Dwarf Alberta Spruce forest. It, and all of your other trees, are an inspiration!
What a marvelous collection of bonsai! Are you able to insure something like that? I’m sure it is priceless to you! As a second generation practicing arborist, I have always been interested in bonsai. Watching your videos has inspired me to start building a collection of my own!
It would be amazing to have a book about your collection. With many photographs and the stories about the trees. I for one would love to purchase that. Great collection and awesome stories.
Very interesting collection indeed, so inspiring in all your memories of working for so many years on each and every single pieces of your bonsai!.what a beauties❤
OMG so much work, patience and years went into those gorgeous bonsais . Such a collection !!! You are a bonsai genious and have such knowledge ...Merci énormément pour ce que vous faites et ce que vous nous apprenez . Will follow you and Nicolas on the adventure . Thank you for all your videos.
Thank you David for taking the time and effort to show us all your personal collection. It is magnificent. Your knowledge and experience is a wellspring for all of us to learn from. Thank you sir.
Do you think you could do a nice long video of you working on the Alberta spruce forest that's at the 7:15 mark? Would really love to see what you'd do with a forest like that.
Cool to see your collection. My only input would be to have the cameraman learn a little about bonsai so he can capture the important aspects of your videos. Very excited to see what’s coming!
Thanks David for sharing such an amazing Bonsai collection with the viewers, will be awesome If you can open this collection for local enthusiasts a few times by year.
Amazing ! Thank you David for sharing all your passionated work with us, you are so inspiring ! Always excited when I see a new video from your channel. Eric ( Longueuil )
What a great tour! I'm curious about the plastic cap head nails. Are they just stabilizing moss and whatnot? They don't look like any fertilizer spike I'm familiar with.
What a beautiful collection you have Dave and I like the name change. To be honest you had me confused with the name change! 😊 I thought 'Bonsai Society' - Who's that? I like the merch, looks good Best of luck with the new camera man and set up! Let's hope your Channel can grow and more people follow your channel. Yes, I would like to see updates on some of those trees!
Hi David. Just wondering what you do with your trees in the winter. I live in Northern Wisconsin and get very harsh winters. I have mostly Ficus trees and I can bring them in my home in the winter. Also I was wondering when you use for fertilizer. Do use the same for all your trees. Also I take my trees to Florida for 3 months every year. Love watching your videos. Thank you so much.
Great video David I love to see D ficus it’s looking fantastic. Funny enough, I’ve actually been likened to Nick Len’s myself because of the pots I make I believe he made some crazy pots and was a great BONSAI artist, not that I am myself, but I do make some crazy pots. I was wondering if you had any formal upright double plantings that you could possibly work on as I have just bought myself two massive trees that I plan to make a twin planting of, but have no information about how to go about it so video on a double planting would be Brilliant if you could. Great video 👍👍👍
Just gonna say im glad u started this channel because we need the knowledge u guys have for us who just started or still learning to continue this amazing hobby from now to the future. Thanks dave
Super. Pouvez vous montrer comment vous préparez la plupart des bonsai pour l hiver. Je suis à Mtl aussi, et cest la 1ere année que jai certains yamadori en pot. Je ne suis pas sur ou quand et comment les garder a partir de novembre. Merci.
What a treat have seen glimpses of your collection on your channel.Amazing how many you have nurtured over the years.Great inspiration for a newbie like myself .Loving the shirts can’t wait till available Take care sir🌳
David, it was great for the whirl wind tour of the collection. I remember several visits to the MBG when I lived on Montreal to see the collection. For future videos maybe you could select one of your favorite trees and give us the back story of how it was obtained, what was your design/styling consideration in its development and how it has evolved/ changed/matured over time as teaching video.
I have an Elaeagnus angustifolia that I dug up in Spring of 2022. It is still in a training pot and only had preliminary structural pruning but I should be able to start wiring secondary branches next Spring. I wanted an Olea europaea; I've seen some people in warmer climates have beautiful old Olive trees but the climate is too cold here in Ohio so I decided to see if I could imitate the effect with Elaeagnus. It is good to know it has been done by you also. When you air layer trees in the ground doesn't the Winter freeze kill the air layered roots? I assume with trees in pots you put the air layered trees in a greenhouse over Winter to keep the air layer from freezing?
This is a very impressive collection, David. Really amazing! One question for you: where do you overwinter your trees, especially those small projects obtained through air-layering? Cheers,
Thanks for the tour. How many trees do you have in your collection? I have around 30, which is manageable for me. Hi from the San Francisco Bay Area and the East Bay Bonsai Society!

Terrific tour of your collection David, how do you keep all of your trees
looking so healthy. Please share your secret with us.
Great collection. I notice that the trees seem to get a lot of shade. I suspect it is so that the pots can be smaller and shallow.
What a beautiful collection you have Dave and I like the name change. To be honest you had me confused with the name change! 😊 I thought 'Bonsai Society' - Who's that? I like the merch, looks good

Every single bonsai is breathtaking! Thank so much for the tour! Just the camera man needs more practice though. :)
Awesome video, amazing! Just some feedback; please, use a different setting/lense for the focus. Really hard to see the nice details of some branches.
Thanks for the tour. How many trees do you have in your collection? I have around 30, which is manageable for me. Hi from the San Francisco Bay Area and the East Bay Bonsai Society!
Very good bonse bonsenya,
I would like to see how you feed these trees.
Linda coleção ! não da vontade de parar de assistir kkk
What kind of spray nozzle are you using to water your trees at the end of the video?
what size are those beams used for your benches?
Maybe another small critique for the video, it would be nice to see the whole tree including the apex :)
David- How do you over winter your JM's? I've struggled with mine due improper winter storage (humidity). I live in Minnesota.
