      We have some mimics near me. They mimic car alarms, police sirens, fire alarms and ambulance sirens. Police sirens appear to be their favourite by far though. They really like the police sirens apparently 😂
      Blackbirds I think? Not sure. We've got a lot of birds near me so not sure which ones are doing the mimicking.

    As I was working in the garden today, I noticed some strange sounds. Some snapping and almost bullet like banging. Our neighbor was out working with some machines too (he always has s machine going when he is around, most often the lawn mower). So, I thought maybe the strange sounds came from whatever the neighbor was doing. I stayed weeding in the garden for a good while and from time to time there were more snaps and bangs. Until there was a biiig THUMP💢. An old birch fell down. Just like that; there was almost no wind. We have been watching a group of old birches that can come down any moment. Today was one of those moments. Nobody got hurt and nothing valuable was broken. It was a cool THUMP.😎
    A lot of timber to clear now...

      @@gayefanner731 True. And it felt like I had been chosen to be the only guest at the funeral of an old tree. A holy moment. That birch was older than me (close in age to Nigel) and to its last moments it had green leaves. It is actually one of a triple trunk and two trunks are still up. The fallen part broke from a spot about 4 meters high, so the thick trunk is still standing.

    I love these tree by tree sessions. I always chuckle when you try to predict how long it may take you to prune up your forests, and you are usually off by many hours. I’m getting a taste of forest management, and I love it, as long as I can pepper in quicker individual trees that need attention. Love your trees Nigel.

    Blue Ash get their common name from the blue dye that was made from their bark. Their botanic name references the shape of their buds. Correction the shape of their young stems. It's not easy keeping track of all this trivia! LoL!

    What a brilliant find - those elephants. My son makes a point of searching the thrift shops for similiar stuff as christmas stocking gifts for me. I love the pot of that Boogie. The movement in the raintree is so natural looking as well - looks great. I have given up on lemons after my last two died this winter - clearly Grantham just hasn't got the climate it likes. I shall just have to enjoy the species vicariously through you 🍋 You got the heights spot on for the cutback baby forest too. Cheers for keeping my rainy Saturday interesting :)

Like what kind of pot to use, soil, tree, tools to use etc etc….i also notice (at least on the videos i have seen) that you do not use wire to train the branches, why is that? Regards from Peru.

    The two most common causes of yellow foliage in lemon trees are over watering. You want to let the surface 5cm or so dry between waterings. and the other is that your soil is too alkyline. You need to have a Ph of between 5.8 and 6. These are acid loving plants.

  • @patsfreund9164

    Lovely bouThe Brazilian rain tree is one of the nicest I've seen. Well done! The Lemon tree is interesting. Was the yellow hue on the leaves a function of the lighting and the camera? That Larch from Xin is, as you stated, nicely styled. I don't like that the trees are growing away from each other, but that's just my opinion. I think I would make them more like a "father/son" planting. Nice ash. Haven't seen any here in s.e. Florida.

  • @dkstott29

    My understanding of lemon trees that are grown in pots with pale colored leaves. It means that they need more direct sun.

    • @dk2614
      @dk2614 Год назад +2

      Just for the sake of discussion.... I have a bunch of Citrus in full direct sunshine all day. Some are dark some are light green. All get the same fertilizer at the same times. Interestingly Bojrn Bojrholm gave a recent video about watering noting specifically how genetic clones can behave differently from parent trees. Many variables come into play concerning the health and behaviors of bonsai. I think ultimately overall health should be our first indicator. If Nigel's tree were stunted or dying then maybe it would be of concern

    • @lordgrubbin9394
      @lordgrubbin9394 Год назад +1

      Yellow leaves often indicate an iron deficiency. That might be the case here as well. :)

      From my experience with lemon trees, it means too much sun 😅

    • @dk2614
      @dk2614 Год назад

      @@lordgrubbin9394 Since Nigel fertilizes with every watering that is highly unlikely. However chlorosis is more closely associated with a ph imbalance where magnesium is simply easier for the plant to uptake than iron. Chlorosis is usually light colored leaves with a dark midrib and veins.
