Kevin, once again, thank you! You are an exceptional history teacher! I love history! And I love being a part of a group of students who have found a teacher who shares that love of history!! I am so happy that we now number over 50,000! It is incredible, and I have no doubt that one day we, your students and fellow history buffs will number 1,000,000+. I look forward to that day. Great video, Kevin. Read Mein Kampf years ago to try and better understand what drove the man. Never agreed to the beliefs expressed in it. What disturbs me about some of the politics in America, is the belief by some of our politicians, to place party over the constitution. That is a recipe for disaster. Just because some are of the opinion that what is good for the party, is automatically good for the country is misguided and leads to a unstable society. In the military our oath was to the constitution, not any one politician or party. Take care and look forward to you next video.

I'm currently reading "When Money Dies" by Adam Ferguson. In this book it was mentioned briefly that due to the conditions of Germany in the 1920's, the German people were increasingly wanted a leader similar to those who were in charge during the Teutonic Order. And iirc, this is what Hitler was aspiring to. To become the leader his fellow countryman wanted. I'll find that section in the book and edit my post in a bit.

1.) General Erich Ludendorff was not a "von", he was not of noble stock.
2.) Ludendorff is an interesting figure to study. All the nighmarish political ideas were already there with Ludendorff, concerning creating an empire in Eastern Europe, Poland, Ukraine, etc. Hitler took much from Ludendorff, he didn't come up with these ideas all by himself. Still Ludendorff and his role in WWI in the east is not so prominently studied.

It is really chilling how you can see how early Hitler had a lot of supporters, it is clear that the justice system of Germany was on his side that they would let him go. There was a “cult of personality” that followed him and if one watches his speeches he really has a way of getting to the crowd. He starts off soft and calm then builds up and leads one in. Some of the things he said he knew would get people on his side, there was a time he was loved in Germany and what he and his fellow Nazis were doing was over looked because he was so charming and so on. A very good reason for never trusting people in power (and as an American I don’t) and speaking out even when that is not popular before it is too late.

Apparently, in WWI, Hitler was a message runner, and had earned something of a reputation for courage under fire. He was a soldier's soldier, which garnered him some of his early support. Too bad for him his experiences didn't translate into any kind of strategic talent down the road. ='[.]'=

Thanks again. I wonder if you're familiar with something this reminded me of that I went to see while at school - I forget the name of the play and I'm not sure when exactly I saw it (in London possibly between 1998-2002), but the premise was that Hitler was taken alive in 1945 and put on trial, with the "jury" being we the audience and a proper ballot held as to whether he was personally responsible for the war or not. I won't spoil the endings for anyone, but it was a really good piece of performative history that probably still would work as a teaching tool if it isn't already still running.

This is such an interesting and fun way to teach history. The telling of history means nothing if you can't/don't/won't give great thought and attention to the characters and personalities of those that lived it, IMHO. My 14 year old son told me about your video on John Bradmore and the Bradmore screw. I try, as much as is possible today, to know about who and what my children are consuming online. Now we both really enjoy getting the notification of a new episode and watch it together. Cant wait for more! Thankfully you have a really great back catalog of content for us to watch until then. Thanks for what you're doing!!

    Very interesting piece again 👏.
Many of your subs will know this, but, bizarrely he spent a year residing in Liverpool, apparently in his short time here he became something of a celebrity. He was quite good at sketching and spent hours wandering round the docks recording tide times, the origin of the ships, detailing everything about the Dock system. During the evening he was fond of a few pints as he finished his day's observations. In Liverpool Museum there used to be a display of some of his work. Incredible to think that his harmless hobby contributed to the successful bombing of the docks, most of the city was untouched but there's still areas of bomb damage left as a reminder.
