Someone got scammed. Definitely a JLC reverso and the back is far too pristine. Also, how was the watch "found" by a French officer? Berlin was captured by the Red Army. Soviet troops scoured that city. Furthermore I know of zero watch companies that made a clone of the Jaeger LaCoultre Reverso watch. The red flags are everywhere. Assuming this is a real story, and I am super skeptical even about that.
It was probably a decorative gift that he never wore. He thought that wristwatches were feminine. But much like the decorative golden pistols that many of the high ranking leaders had in the Reich, this was probably just that.
I reckon it just isn't any old engraved watch, whether it was actually hitlers or not, who knows? But it must be dated to the time of Nazi occupation, by profesional antique watch dealers, and was probably made for some Nazi high up the chain of command circa 1930's/40's.

It is a stereotype that the French are cowards and 'cheese eating surrender monkies!' As one British comedian claimed, but although in WW2, the French government gave occupation to the Germans pretty much straight away without a fight, the French people (the partisans) where some of the bravest people to fight in WW2. They fought with an amazing lack of resources, knowing full well, that if caught, they would be executed, without prison or trial, and the Germans didn't treat them like other allied soldiers under the rules of the Geneva convention. I don't thing technically they had to. Many French partisans fought knowing full well they was going to die when caught doing daring missions with the odds stacked majorly against them. Not enough is mentioned about the brave French in WW2, in books and film. It is always focused on the British and American hero's.

I wonder if the watch was made of actual gold. Because there is no stamp like 14k or 24k. Also what is the deal with the face sliding over? Seems a bit of an odd feature , not sure what the point of that is.
@@jazzs7480 I was thinking the same thing but after I wrote my comment I found a site with more information on the watch. They called it a Reverso style where the face can be turned around. Most watches like that have another watch on the backside, that way you can be in two time zones. This watch just had one side. The back was plated with his initials, etc.
