Better than BBC docs, which are presented by fools and are biased and with annoying plucking music. Except Starkey but they no longer like him. In the 60s the media like the BBC would have sided with the 1381 peasants against the elite. But since then the BBC became part of the elite as the left took over, as thenew left posed as being concerned for the poor - which they are not. So now I suspect the BBC will be less on the side of the rebels, now that their lot (left) are the new elite, including the banks and billionaires. Rem how they ousted another elite in 1492, exiled them.

that was fantastic storytelling. no fancy clips, edits, etc, just the might of words, language and imagination. Great! What was especially unexpected is that the rhyme "‘When Adam delved and Eve span, who was then the gentleman?’ is also part of the song "Wir sind des Geyers schwarzer Haufen" which is a song about Florian Geyer, a leader of the peasants uprising from 1525 in the south of Germany during the "peasants wars". There is a strophe "Als Adam grub und Eva spann, wo war denn da der Edelmann?" which is directly taken from the 1381 uprising in England. Also I learned that this rhyme is also said in the Netherlands in abourt 1480 "Toen Adam spitte / en Eva span / waar vond men toen den edelmann?" anbd many more adaptations. So Mr Ball did some great work here creating a really powerfull and unique saying with a unmistakable message. And thinking about this, the meaning, its really convincing...even today, when hearing it. So WHERE IS MY PITCHFORK AND TORCH?!
Brilliant. And a pleasure to see someone of my age as Sharp and Literate. It is obviously that you were not schooled in the US or before the West decided that having educated citizens, i.e., people who knew their countries' past and the need to understand the reasons behind their Freedoms, their Laws and customs and the consequences of tyranny and where that tyranny would ultimately drive their peasant population as the Americans found out in 1776-1779 and ironically the USSR found out in 1979 and that the dregs of the Old Soviet heir-achy, now living in the US, are about to re-learn in what could become a Second Peasants Revolt in modern-day America if they continue on as they have begun. Excellent, and well worth attending to.
Thank you for an excellent presentation. I grew up in Mile End and I remember the 600th anniversary of The Peasant's Revolt very well. A wonderful mural commemorating the event was painted on the wall of a Tower Hamlet's building in 1981. The spirit may have died (more than a little) but the memory remains. Richard II went on to become a disastrous monarch and was usurped by Henry Bolingbroke. Robber barons eh, who needs parasites like royalty. One day...

Yep. The Plague. First thing I was thinking of when I've heard about the reasons. Thanks for the very detailed explanation
Is this the reason why the Corona virus is being sorted ; so that there is less chance of a plague ? ? .
An absolutely brilliant relation of a pivotal event in history. My GCE history teacher, he taught us trade union history rather than traditional kings and queens stuff, would have been very happy to see this, had he still been alive.
A superb video , as a lad born in Barts and growing up in Clerkenwell I heard the story from my Grandad. Your efforts added real substance and I'd like to thank you for your research and hard work
Many thanks!
you can only take things from people for so long before they decide ''you know what? if everything is fucked anyways I may as well take a few of these bastards with me''
We're almost there now!
Excellent show.hello from Poland.
Hello!!
You really make this history come alive. Cheers from across the pond!
Thank you good sir for keeping our culture and history alive!
My pleasure!!
Sudbury's rugby team should rename themselves the "Sudbury-Drag-Outsiders-And -Club-Scoudrels"AC. Their mascot would be a bishop with a cannonball head. Good vid!
Like it.
So much of what happened seems applicable today. Awesome history lesson.
Such as?
@@Gambit771 The elite trying to undermine the labour force by enacting policies that directly supress their bargaining power. The modern equivalent of this is the mass importation of foreign workers, without any mandate to do so from domestic populations.

At least kings back then only wanted power and money, today's elite, backed by the king, want to spray the skies to change the weather and starve us and import foreigners. and make us poor, in fact, ruin us.
Kevin hicks the best historian presenter on RUclips, give the man a tv show on national television covering English and European history
You’re the best history teacher ever.
Hello, Kevin. I very much enjoyed this presentation. You helped me to better understand my own family history. I am Lewis Hales and my 18th great uncle was Sir Robert Hales, Admiral of the King's fleet, who was beheaded in the Rebellion. You are an honorable and truthful historian.
Another gem! Not from England but allways wait ur new videos.
The wearer of the white boar tells a great tale anyone who has not seen his work this is a great place to start! A very good presentation.
awesome episode Kevin, its almost through out history the common people always seem to loose one way or another. Was like that in the Swiss Peasant War of 1653
Lord Kevin Hicks with another tremendous lesson for us common folk. I’d reckon you would make a fine king. Thanks for your efforts and for being the best history teacher.
😜
Better than BBC docs, which are presented by fools and are biased and with annoying plucking music. Except Starkey but they no longer like him.
In the 60s the media like the BBC would have sided with the 1381 peasants against the elite. But since then the BBC became part of the elite as the left took over, as thenew left posed as being concerned for the poor - which they are not. So now I suspect the BBC will be less on the side of the rebels, now that their lot (left) are the new elite, including the banks and billionaires. Rem how they ousted another elite in 1492, exiled them.
This man is quite devoted to a realistic presentation of the past. Great video.
Sir I appreciate your content. I'm American but love British history more than my own so this is a real treat.
Thanks 👍
That's because we have thousands of years of history ,and yourselves hardly any history no surprise 🏴
its fascinating to imagine the scene unfolding as you describe events. What I wouldn't give to go back and be a fly on the wall during such events
The Ken Follett book 'pillars of the earth' and it's sequel 'world without end' are amazing for getting a feel off life in those times, and class distinctions
The original was excellent: the second rubbish
Greetings once again from Nova Scotia, thank you for another top shelf video, I knew some of the details of this chapter in history, but you good sir, are a born teacher. I don't know but it feels like we may soon be down that road again. Anyway be safe and as always best regards, Arthur
Yes I believe that too. Perhaps you can recommend the video to happy socks, our Prime Minister.
😜
@@thehistorysquad YES... It's not the country of my Mother anymore, & the one I grew up in too😠
SEND him to Funk Island for life.
NO remission.
NO parole.
The way he said one of 18 heads to roll had me engrossed. I really wish someone would fund this guy. I love his castle tours! I especially like watching him in all his cool costumes more than whatever nonsense history channel passes as “history” today.
Thanks Charles, much appreciated 👍🏻
We're lucky enough to have some great support from generous Patreon members that helps when it comes to making and buying props and models.
I simply can no longer watch TV history progs any more, saying we were Afrians even, and with that annoying plucking music, and silly political presenters.
Recently watched a Tony Robinson documentary on the same subject ... and even with all the money, time, production costs, having bloody Mike Loades ride the entire route on a horse!! I even think you where in it 😂😂 It had nothing on this! I only wish your videos were longer, would love to see you star in a full on documentary! The way you portray history is inspiring ... Amazing video Kevin, great watch!
Wow, that's really kind of you thanks. D'you know I did once appear in a Tony Robinson video about Robin Hood, but I was told he wouldn't appear on screen with me 😏
@@thehistorysquadKevin, that was his loss, not yours!!!!!!!!!!!!😂😢😮😅😊
And definitly not ours 😄
@@thehistorysquadWhy would he not appear with you? I am not surprised by his absurd attitude, by the way.
I saw that. You couldn't ask for better proof that this was a general uprising, not localized in the place it began. They couldn't have ridden from there to London in the time they had, using the horses they had. The people who marched on London came from the surrounding area.
I truly appreciate your ability to tell history with background information.
This brings history alive and far more understandable 🤠
I have a certain sympathy for the peasant's revolt. Great story, brilliantly told!
Since I am from peasant stock myself, so do I 😆
Fascinating as ever. I can see certain current day politicians who consider themselves to be of the “elite” going misty eyed and nostalgic for the days of the serf. I wonder how far we can be pushed before a similar revolt? Thank you for another dive into our history.
Hey! It's gonna be a great day when Kevin talks to us about history!
That was insanely interesting. The kind of stuff that made me fascinated with history. Thank you. That was fantastic.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
I studied this in College, but this is the best telling of the story, I have heard. I have never truly understood how serfdom survived for so long.
Hope you’re looking after those eyes 😉
It’s survived for so long because slavery is the default state of humanity.
@@thehistorysquad I am they are getting better every day. I can even see The Milky Way at night. I can't use my telescopes yet but I will get there

The BEST History Channel in the world. You literally make history come to life! Thank you so very much for your time and effort in creating these amazing videos!
Wow, thank you…again 👍
Hell yeah. I was watching a coffeezilla video but as soon as this came on, boom here i am. Great start to a Friday.
That’s what I’m saying 😂
Same here bro
No contest.
😂 thanks for watching
Your story telling is elite
Thank you very much. 😊
Probably the best graphic account I have heard on this subject. Thank you.
History was was my favourite subject at school due to an excellent Teacher. This show takes me back to those years.
Perfect timing, needed something to watch at 6am
6am? The real time is 14:00 😉
Good morning
Don't need the historical version anymore. We are living in the modern revolt right now.
❤❤❤
Excellent, top shelf. You explained it so vividly, it was like I was actually there....
Again.
Great to hear! 👍
Magnificent narration.
Thanks!
I think you touched on this before but lovely to hear a much more detailed account of it - Cheers Kevin
Thank you Kevin for your good efforts, you liven up history and make it so easily understood and worthwhile.
Thank you kindly
@@thehistorysquad I loved history and geography in school, I had some good teachers. One bad one, he had an ego. When I watch the news I look to geography and history. I feel sorry for the Palestinians ever since I was a child. Israel to me looks like a land grab. As for Ukraine, there are many Slavek cultures and languages there and more, Zelensky should remember history and not listen to types like Boris Johnson.
Peasants revolt is darn close to a civil war almost. Jolly good show my kind sir. Thank you Kevin!✌️
And a revolution.
I love the way you explain things. So well, in fact, I listen twice just to hear you outline everything for us.
Wow, thank you!
I recently watched a video on the tower of London, and this was part of it and how surfs become tenant farmers. But I'm always glad to get the full story here 👍 also how the young king handles himself pretty mature
I just stumbled across this channel not too long ago and I must say well done! The passion you have for the subject makes it beyond easy to listen too an most importantly retain the information.
Glad you enjoy it!
What an excellent documentary, explains not just what happened but the real reasons why these historical events happened.
Interesting.
Want to thank the algorithm for recommending this channel. Your story telling ability is top notch, plus extra points for the medieval clothing. Wish I could take a time machine just to checkout all these historical accounts. Power to the people! 💪😎
Cheers! Welcome to the channel 👍🏻
that was fantastic storytelling. no fancy clips, edits, etc, just the might of words, language and imagination.
Also I learned that this rhyme is also said in the Netherlands in abourt 1480 "Toen Adam spitte / en Eva span / waar vond men toen den edelmann?"
anbd many more adaptations.
So Mr Ball did some great work here creating a really powerfull and unique saying with a unmistakable message. And thinking about this, the meaning, its really convincing...even today, when hearing it.
So WHERE IS MY PITCHFORK AND TORCH?!
😜 a fascinating comment, thanks for sharing that!
Excellent Kevin cheers again.🏴🇬🇧
Once again Kevin thank you for an excellent chapter in the English history.
Always a great start to the workday when the History Squad uploads
Enjoy!
Already upvoted, didnt even watch the video yet, again, I already know its going to be good. grateful for every new video.
Cheers!
enjoyable listen thankyou
The game Knights and Merchants had an expansion called The Peasant Rebellion and I believe it was based on this part of history
Yay! The peasants revolt and the Magna Carta are unique areas of study for me and im excited that you covered this!
I love hearing/learning about England back in the 1000-1600AD years. It was so much different than now, but so much similar in other ways.
One day...
Brilliant! Medieval economics and labour politics is one of my favourite historical subjects.
Have you made a video about John of Gaunt? He's one of the key figures in Medieval Europe.
Not on him as a stand alone - what a piece of work.
After this last week, so many of my favorite youtubers across all niches are coming in clutch with their uploads. Despite the somber subject, its always a delight to see a video from yall, thank you so much for your dedication and hardwork.
Cheers Hannah 👍
Great show Kevin enjoyed it immensely keep them coming.
I remember learning about it in middle school. I have always loved history. I live in scarborough, Yorkshire, and my grandson came over recently, I asked him what was his favourite thing about scarborough, he replied the history grandad, the history. Not a bad for a 9 year old lad.
Haha, how lovely!
Sounds very familiar. We work and our wages go to the wars we didn’t ask for. Revolt?
