"Milord, the peasants are revolting!"
"Come now, I know that they reek but they're clearly not that bad, are they."
"Finally, something we can both agree on" 😅
I saw a movie a long time ago and and the messenger says the peasants are up in arms.
"Are they revolting?"
"They've always been revolting--they're rebelling!"
how many people in chicago? about 2.7 million. how many cops? maybe 50,000. eeeeh. that dont look good. when civil war breaks out again. you will see whackos driving around in police vehicles.

It really is eye opening that the more you learn of history, the more you realize we’ve been through all this before
The only difference is that most of the peasants of today are too weak and comfortable to fight back against the nobles.
What's worse is when you think about it, if we've done it all before and we know how it ended, what will happen this time round?
Fun to learn history though and this channel is definitely one of the best for it
That’s why us historians plead with people to learn their history, but apparently the Kardashians are more entertaining.
History may not often repeat, but it often rhymes.
Seems like we are going through it now, and eventually we will rise up, just like the peasants.
After all was said and done, the peasants got a lot of what they wanted, because no state can resist a truly popular uprising.
I haven't watched many content creators who visualize battles by putting up models, dressing up as a medieval bowman and tell historic accounts with such a passion like you, Kevin. One of my favorite history channels on RUclips.

Peasant revolts are an underrated and fascinating phenomenon that doesn’t get nearly enough attention
Cause then we would learn and revolt ourselves
We need to revolt now in the UK . It's disgusting .
It’s time to revolt against the liberal elite folks, they are treating us like cattle at this point
I agree.
I imagine it would be an event of a lifetime. Tales to be told in families for generations
I mean the French Revolution gets talked about quite a bit.
As a father to a daughter, I would've been filled with so much shame if I let some wanker check her out for tax purposes. Revolting against your king/government is no small feat not too mention that these blokes pulled it off is amazing. The fact we're still talking about it over 600 years later is a testament to these peoples' anger and taking a stand. Thank you History Squad.
Absolutely 👍🏻
A lot harder when you’ve given up your means to do so in the modern age. I truly feel sorry for the people the UK who understand this and are surrounded by morons/cowards. Especially these days where multiculturalism has failed with the cohesion of common national values being called racist. The government now knows many of their citizens will comply with insanely tyrannical orders, lock yourself inside, stay away from each other hell you better not even seeing a dying loved one in the last breathe. And people overwhelmingly complied like actual cowards. Was this also your? How were people not ashamed of their cowardice? It’s a scary time for freedom of thought especially in the UK. It’s been very hard to watch.
And let’s be real. I doubt the perv was doing it for that reason.
Yep, and sadly happening around the world to this day... in various ways and even here in Canada
In this day and age lifting up skirts might come with a surprise or two...

Seems like alot of bloodshed in history could be avoided if those in power simply paid their employees a fair wage
Bless your naive little soul
Seems like having just 1 employer is kind of a stupid system. Free trade and entrepeneurship was stifled in every way possible.
It would, however Hell would have to freeze over before that happens. If there's one things those in power hate, it's paying their workers a fair wage.
"Fair" isn't an amount. It's different feom person to person, and makes sense only to short sided people. For a fast food job, to me, "fair" is 8 bucks an hour for a teenager. If an adult does the same job, fair is also 8 bucks an hour.
@HalfInsaneOutdoorGuy I also imagine you're the kind of guy who'd complain if all the restaurants shut down.
Fair is not 8 dollars or 15. It isn't an amount: it's the amount necessary to live a good life. Jobs that don't pay fair are jobs that shouldn't exist.
Brilliant. In order for the Revolt to be properly understood, it could be useful to look at what happened with the Jacquerie in France, only a few decades earlier. The French and English peasants were clearly not willing to accept any more arbitrary demands from the nobility.

Hope you’re looking after those eyes 😉
I read that what they said to get Wat Tyler so pissed off and kicked off the fight, was one of the King's servants claimed he knew Tyler from his city, and claimed he was just a common thief.
The game Knights and Merchants had an expansion called The Peasant Rebellion and I believe it was based on this part of history
Firstly nice to see you wearing Richard’s Boar 👍
And as a man of Kent (born south of the river Medway) I’m proud that this great county had a hand in this great part of history.

I think he means the white embroidery on his burgundy cape/hood
What a story! You make the old times come alive. Thank you!
You bet! 👍
When my husband and I visited England in 1999 (from Georgia, USA), we went to Canterbury Cathedral, and heard about Sudbury’s body with the cannonball. I’ve seen photos of his head at Sudbury. Guess his 2 pieces will never be reunited! I have a Henry III long cross penny I bought in Tewkesbury in 2014, and an Edward I coin I bought in Cornwall in 2022. Better than BBC docs, which are presented by fools and are biased and with annoying plucking music. Except Starkey but they no longer like him.
In the 60s the media like the BBC would have sided with the 1381 peasants against the elite. But since then the BBC became part of the elite as the left took over, as thenew left posed as being concerned for the poor - which they are not. So now I suspect the BBC will be less on the side of the rebels, now that their lot (left) are the new elite, including the banks and billionaires. Rem how they ousted another elite in 1492, exiled them.
Absolutely love the way you tell history Kevin. So glad I found your channel.
Me too😃 thanks for watching 👍
reading the title it brought back memories of the comic strip “Wizard of Id” where a soldier rushed to tell the king “the peasants are revolting” to which he said “you can say that again”
sums up the nobility’s disregard for commoners that they relied so heavily on for centuries nicely- push them enough snd they will fight back even if it’s futile
Absolutely 👍🏻
It is actually true that a minority are revolting, and anti social, and they ruin the estates where they live, loud music etc

I was excited to see Kevin doing this event in history.
There’s not much info on RUclips concerning the Peasant revolt but it seems to have important historical significance.
The ideas expressed in the manifesto by the peasants concerning human rights and personal freedom seem to be almost modern in their demands and their wishes for recognition by the upper class of personal rights and freedoms of all people - regardless of social standing. While the revolt did not achieve the aims of the participants, this could be considered the first time ever these ideals had been expressed in a formal document, paving the way for subsequent revolts and movements by the people for human rights and fair treatment for all - not just an elite upper class as had been the way going back to the earliest (recorded) human history.
Thanks for the great storytelling, Mr.Kevin! I was so glad when I saw you’d chosen to cover this fascinating event!
My pleasure, thanks for watching 👍🏻
Maybe today's elite (protected and assisted by the BBC and schools and MSM) don't like the 1381 revolt because they know that it could give us inspiration to remove our current oppressors and warmongers
This is one of my favourite events in history. To think what we peasants could do if we had the backbone & a good leader. They must have had amazing hardy horses to get the distances from differant places in the speed they did. Thanks again Kevin. Loved this
the elites know to target the opposing leader as priority. So the dems go after Trump.

Good morning
Was excited to hear your take on The Peasant Revolt, I know how you feel about the common man getting the short end. I think the Revolt after the plague years was inevitable, with outrageous taxes (which lives in 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' about the wool tax of 1275) with common people doing better for themselves and getting the nobilities nose with their brightly colored clothes and pointy shoes, but more were sending their kids to the local schools run by the church so literacy was increasing among the peasants and one of the reasons that Revolt was so well organized was that with an increase of literacy they were circulating letters to each other with instructions. Thomas Walsing wrote down one these letter in his chronicle and its thought that they are cryptic instructions for organizing, such "John Sheep greetth well John Nameless and John the Miller and biddth they chastise well Hob the Robber and look shape ye to one head and no more." Thought that they are saying only have one leader or saying to meet up at Canterbury at the head of the Bishop. Chastising Hob the Robber might also be instructions to not do any looting but look for the documents with the green seal and target the lawyers and John of Gaunt's cronies. As for as the vitriol toward lawyers and politicians, well somethings never change, do they?
😜 no they certainly don't. A great comment Jodie, thanks. I hope you & the family are all doing well 👍🏻
