    I don't think there is anything more satisfying than finding a product that just does what it says it will. I'll have to keep Q4 in mind. I've been having pretty good luck with Bioadvance Crabgrass and lawn weed, but there are things it struggles with (looking at you, Virginia strawberries)

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  3 года назад

      Absolutely, I completely agree. This will lay a whoopin down on most of the weeds that I have an issue with. Like your normal dandelions, spurge, and the stinking bindweed (morning glory), it is completely infested in the high school fields across the street and I have to be a vigilante applier of this product. It does take out most types of crabgrass and it stated "wild strawberry" on the label, So I have no idea if it will take care of that strain of strawberry. I know that it does nothing to wild bermuda other than yellowing it a bit, but doesn't and won't kill it completely. Good luck on your fight against the weeds brother!! Thank you for the comment! I hope to hear from you in the future.

    Nice video. I have lived on my rural acreage since 1978. I mow about 2 1/2 acres. Mostly Bermuda grass with some fescue. And all kind of weeds!
    Lots of dandelion, clover, and a bunch of other stuff. It looks like I have an infestation of Bahiagrass as well! I am in northeast Oklahoma. So first of march I sprayed my whole 2 1/2 acres with the pre-emergent “Dimension”. Now I would like to cover the whole thing with a weed killer. I have daffodils around every tree and along the fences along with daylillies so I have to be careful. I have one of the 6 ft Danville Express roller applicators so I plan on using it without worrying about any overspray! I have been looking at this Q4+ herbicide and think it may very well get rid of most of my problem weeds. I have also seen people that really like “Drive XLR8 herbicide”. What are your recommendations? Thanks, Tom

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  2 года назад +1

      I really like using Q4+. I have had excellent results with it. Now with your possibly applying it to your property, I would love to see one of those Danville Express rollers work. I have never seen one in use and the results thereafter but I did have a buddy of mine talking about it. I will say that if the weather gets a little too warm.....I have seen the results of it drying so fast that the product evaporates and can "drift" to nearby flowerbeds. Again I had a buddy who applied it at the top temp 85 degrees and it killed some flowers and stressed out a shrub. The shrub came back thankfully. So just an fyi ( I don't believe that he used a surfactant, so that could have been the game changer for him). As far as Drive XLR8 I have never used the product so my "prejudiced" opinion would tell you to go with Q4+. I apologize for not having the experience with XLR8. I will ask around and see if I can find a better answer. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    I tried this product for the first time it really didn’t kill the Nutsedge that well I sprayed at 3 ounces per gallon and even the crabgrass did not die and yes I used a surfactant I think it needs to be a little bit stronger maybe 3 1/2 ounces per gallon

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  2 года назад

      Rob, I have experienced it taking a little heavier application to handle the nutsedge. But it has always manhandled crabgrass pretty easily, so I not surprised on the first but also surprised on the second. I would perhaps do the blanket app and then spot hit any established weeds again but just a quick trigger pull and then done on each. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    Great Video, I put this out about a week ago and I have seen some weeds not too happy with me. However, there are still plenty that are not showing much damage. When do you feel its safe to spray again and this time (now that I know) I will water it like you said in your video. Thanks again for the video. It was very helpful. Now I know to put it out in the morning and then water it later.

    • @TheHighlanderLawn

      My apologies for not responding earlier. I have been crazy busy the last 3 months that I have been a little neglectful to responding to comments. Q4 can be very finicky in certain temps. I find that if your daytime temps tend to be lower than 60 F it can really SLOW down its effectiveness because overnight it can get into the 30-40’s. This also keeps your soil temps below 55 F. Also as mentioned in the video anything above 85 F daytime highs can cause damage to the turf when it is applied.
      So you have a window to apply, depending on where you live. In regards to reapplying I believe it is 4-6 weeks before reapplying. I hope this helps. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

      As of today, it shows $135 for a gallon, there are taxes beyond that price (mine was $11.64) and it currently shows free shipping to where I live (Utah). It does not say how long that takes to ship, but if a person plans ahead, I am confident it would be no more than 2 weeks. Why spray the whole yard? Just spot spray trouble areas. Less stuff going into the soil and product will last 10x longer.

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  2 года назад +1

      LC, Thank you for the comment. Yes I could spot spray and I do if any weeds find their way through. I do apply a "blanket coverage" application, which is presumed that would normally be the case as the mixing labels clearly states for instructions for mixing (i.e. 3oz per gallon/1000 square feet) and yes spot spraying would allow for the product to last longer. I will be sure to mention that alternative on my next herbicide video. Again thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    Can you spot spray or do you need to coat the entire lawn? Awesome video!

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  3 года назад +2

      I do recommend at least one complete blanket coverage of the lawn for the year (I do 2: one at the end of spring, the other at the cool end of summer/begin of fall) but if after the first total coverage you would like to spot spray, there is nothing wrong with that. But you can always spot spray if you like. I just think that if you don't do at least one blanket coverage, you could be spot spraying to the point of doing a total coverage application eventually. I do warn against (like in the video) spraying in the hear of summer. It will stress the turf too hard. Constant temps at 85 or below are my recommended temps. But always follow the application directions. I hope that this helped. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  Год назад

      David, yes it does work in cooler climates. It's best application temps are between 65 - 85 F So that does give a stretch of time usually spring and fall and maybe a couple of weeks during the summer dependent on the weather, to apply it. I will tell you that it is a major danger zone in anything 90+ F. So I would pay attention to the weather in the 14 day forecast and plan accordingly. Thank you for your comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    You said you go with 3 ounces per thousand that’s a 4 gallon backpack sprayer and he put 15 ounces and so there’s actually more than 3 ounces per thousand that’s roughly about 3 ounces per gallon so it’s a little bit on the strong side

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  2 года назад

      I do go with 3 oz per 1000. One thing I didn't show is I pour the 15 oz out and then I do pour 3 oz (of the 15) out into a cup that I then add to an additional gallon of water once I have used up the four gallons in the backpack sprayer. But that is a good catch. I will make sure that I include that into the next herbicide video. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    • @TheHighlanderLawn

      I mixed up 12 of the 15 oz in the 4 gallon backpack sprayer I then finished out the remaining 3 oz with an additional gallon, when the first 4 were depleted and finished out the application.

  • @jeffrme
    @jeffrme 2 года назад +1

    You just put 15 oz in your back pack sprayer! I understood you to say 3 oz per 1000. Shouldn’t that mean, you mix 3oz with 3 or 4 gal of water then repeat!

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  2 года назад +1

      Jeff I should have been more clear in the video. The ratio is 3 oz per 1000 sq ft / per gallon. I have a "4 gallon" backpack sprayer but I am able to squeeze about 4.8 gallons when I fill it to the brim. I do push the limits on the sprayer doing this, but it gets my just shy of 5000 sq ft done. To answer your second comment. The single application does not last me 2-3 seasons, it's the jug of q4 that lasts 2-3 seasons dependent on my average of 2-3 applications a year. I hope that is a little more clear. I appreciate your attention to detail. Great quality.

    What would your tips be on using a hose end sprayer for applying the Q4? I'm guessing that would mean a different ratio of water-to-product?
    Also, is it fine to apply this product in late fall for bermuda grass?

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  2 года назад

      I have only ever used a backpack sprayer when applying Q4. There are instructions for applying Q4 at a rate of 3 oz per 1000 sq ft with a Jose end sprayer. In regards to Bermuda grass, I have cool season turf (KBG) and have had some wild bermuda come into it. And Q4,doesn’t even touch it. Q4 is very temperature sensitive. So that is the more important item to be aware of. Air temperature range should be between 65-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Always check the label in case there has been something that I may have overlooked. Q4 is my absolute favorite herbicide

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  Год назад

      The Q4 will eradicate most weeds. Once you feel that the weeds are dying or dead. The label on Q4 states that you can begin seeding after 1 week after application. But to be honest I like to let it go an additional week just to make sure that the Q4 has done it's job and has broken down enough to where I can add the seed without any "hinderance" of what may still be remaining, Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    How many gallons would i use to treat 4100 sq feet using a 2 gallon backpack sprayer ?

    • @TheHighlanderLawn
      @TheHighlanderLawn  2 года назад +1

      Troy the mix ratio is suggested 2.67 oz of Q4 to one gallon of product. Each mixed gallon should cover 1000 square feet of turf that you have. So with 4100 square feet you would fill your backpack sprayer twice to cover the 4000 square feet, but that would leave you short of covering the remaining 100 square feet of your total 4100. I would suggest mixing up an additional 5th gallon, finishing the application and using the remainder for any possible "spot treatments" that can be used for touch up.

I have only used Tenacity on newly seeded projects as it does not stunt the grass seed's germination. The label states one week after application, seeding can be done. But I would wait for 2 weeks to allow the herbicide to work it's magic and then put down seed. Tenacity is decent but it takes sometimes several applications. So I would hit the area with Q4, wait 2 weeks, lay down the seed when the temps drop to a better suited germination temp 75 or below and then apply Tenacity for any weed seeds etc, that will find their way after a Q4 application Best of luck!! You will do great.
