Fusilade II is powerful stuff. PLEASE read the instructions carefully when using it on your Fescue lawn to kill Burmuda. First, Fusilade should not be used in the heat over 80F, ideally Spring and Fall. Secondly, this video shows at the 7:13 minute mark an application rate of .75 oz/1000sqft. If you read the product label he applied the "over the top" rate application for landscaped areas which are for "non-turf" areas. If you read further down the label, you'll see application rates for "WEED CONTROL IN DESIRABLE TURFGRASS" which lists an application rate only .07 to 14 oz/1000 sqft. So I would start low and go up from there depending on your results, you don't want to kill your Fescue. Also, the addition of Triclopyr is good for this use as studies show it not only tempers the strength of the Fusilade, the Triclopyr kills other weed types not covered by the Fusilade and is also safe for Fescue. A continued approach of hitting the invading Burmuda with Fusilade and Tricloryr every 4 weeks should at the very least keep it from spreading or hopefully killing it eventually. If you want an additional herbicide to bring into the mix that will do well against Crabgrass try adding Quinclorac to the mix. Quinclorac is safe for Fescue and along with Fusillade and Triclopyr is a great tri-mix to keep the weeds and warm-season grasses out of your fescue. And finally, if you can afford it, the best stuff to use to battle Burmuda in Fescue is Pylex. But at $500 for an 8oz bottle, it's VERY expensive. However, at an application rate of 0.023 - 0.034 oz/1000sqft, if you can get 8 other homeowners to split the bottle cost that works out to ~$63 per ounce and that would be enough for about 30 to 40 1,000sqft applications.
thanks for this. It's like you said, but it's .07 to 0.14 fl oz/1000 sqft. Typo if anyone missed it.....not 14 oz :-) transportation.ky.gov/Maintenance/Pesticides/Fusilade%20II%20label.pdf
What would you recommend to just wipe out Bermuda (ie without concern for fescue or other existing grasses) and start over? I’m looking to plant a pollinator garden so ideally something that won’t linger too long and unduly harm insects and such. Appreciate any input you have!
I've been spraying ornamec 170. It complelty burn the bermuda grass up. Didnt hurt my tall fescue or any of the tall fescue sprouts. It recommends spraying every 28 days for at least one mowing season. I use a pull behind sprayer. I'm going to be over seeding alot to. Its blew my mind how burned up the bermuda is now. I can spray it in my flower beds too. Good video man.
I've been using Turflon successfully in eastern Oregon for several years. The response after spraying is not immediate. But, after 3 or 4 months of spraying, the Burmuda grass just magically disappears. Your advice on applying the herbicide is spot on.
Ive seen people dig a 6" wide barrier along the property line, put down some weed blanket and fill it with river rock then once every few months hit it with some glypo. Problem solved and when you mow tall you can't see it unless you get right up on it. Being a warm season guy its interesting watching how cool season guys deal with these problems. Different chemicals and such. Cool video man!
I tilled a 12 inch path on each property line in my front yard, planted baby bushes and flowers mulched and made a deep edge. Easy to maintain after that.

I have a family member with the same problem in their backyard. I helped renovate their yard last fall and they had a lot of bermuda that we killed off with a few apps of glyphosate. I was worried that it would come back and sure enough it did this summer. I only bought the Triclopyr Ester and blanket sprayed since it was fairly widespread and hard to tell where it was and where it wasn't. That stuff smoked it in one app but i still have two more apps that need to go down plus follow up apps for another year or two. I believe the label recommended .75 - 1.5oz per 1000sqft so i split the difference and went with 1oz and i've been pleased so far. Although, i think the stuff smell almost like gasoline! Good luck with yours! Unfortunately, it looks like you'll be fighting it every year since your neighbor has it. That stuff is just going to keep creeping into your yard without some kind of barrier and even then with the nature of bermuda that might not even stop it. Bermuda is the devil!
I'll fight it until we move in a year or two and then it's the next guys problem haha. Almost a safe bet that the next owners wont notice it or wont care. Next house I buy I will inspect the yard and any sign of Bermuda that house is out haha
Thanks for sharing. Last weekend sprayed a 1,100 sqft area of my lawn with glyphosate...due to bermuda in my TTTF. And will have another 1,100 sqft area to reno next year.
We feel for you! We too are battling Bermuda infestation from the park to the east of us! after the mowers mow the lawn! Ugh! Thank you for the video! Beautiful family!
If you go outside at night, with a flood lamp headlight, the bermuda sticks out like a sore thumb. It reflects a blue hue and makes it practically highlighted amidst the fescue. I have it mingled throughout my fescue lawn, even after a total kill/reseed, it comes back. I just try to keep it minimal.
Watched this last year, how I found your channel. I was too late to attempt it last year but am now 2 weeks into the treatment. Started a little earlier than you recommend but it seems to be taking. Thanks for the advise. No damage to the Fescue but could be because of the cooler weather.
I have the exact same problem - starting my attack probably in the next 2 weeks - no quarter will be given, The apocalypse is coming for Bermuda in my yard.
Got some cuties there! This Bermuda has been killing us for years. Finally decided to kill off my entire lawn in April, put brand new fescue sod down, and the Bermuda came ROARING back the past month or so. I’m in northern CA. I hate Bermuda grass. Had I known in April how pernicious this crap is, I would have just seeded with Bermuda. Haha Thx for the video. I’m gonna try this out or Ornamec. I’ll look thru your other vids to see if you’ve used it before. 👍
I have some burmuda grass that invaded by the seeds washing over the road from a neighbor. I also had some poa annua from the same spot. I put round up poison ivy killer on the area. The area turned all yellow. It killed the poa anuua but the burmuda grass is still alive in early May and ready to start sprouting up. It survived round up!
What is the lawn you have ? Do you know what grass (naturally) we have in Europe? Its many many different stuff i guess and i am coming from a country where green (big fields of green, big forrests) are all over around..its beautiful and also people doesn't normally use special lawns around houses...so if i were to seed some beautiul lawn it would probably be the mix in one year?
What helped me out was thatching or de thatching whatever its called after I sprayed. I then could see when the runners were running and spray them. In the planters, roto till and a blowtorch hooked up to a propane tank!
As long as your neighbor has Burmuda, so will you, no matter how often you spray or dig up. The only way I was able to solve this was to dig it all up, put down salted sand, 2 layers of 6 foot wide 6 mil black plastic, cover in large stepping stones, huge rocks and burl, and pea rock in between. I have all sizes of potted plants on the step stones, some tall and some draping. I call it my "Rock Garden" and after so many years the plants are huge and lovely... and so is my lawn.
Bermuda has roots that go down 4 inches, rhizomes that travel underground to 4 feet, and also spread by seeds. Dig that patch up at least 6 inches down and at least 6 foot further around that patch, or by next year it will be 15 foot around larger than the year before. Do NOT reseed yet. Water the area well, to see what you missed, because any tiny part that is missed underground will start it all over again. Once you are SURE nothing more is left, THEN reseed and enjoy your lawn!
I never knew I had this problem until I detached my lawn. I always cut low but this week we just got 15" of rain in 3 days and I have all those red seed heads all over my yard. I am bummed
Once you get started in the treatment when do you start removing the dead Bermuda and how do you remove it, by hand or machine. So far I just had my 2nd application within 2 weeks and then will keep going at 30 days intervals. When you reseed is that when the temperature changes to cooler like in November, I’m in California. How do you reseed or can you use the reseeding if it comes out of a liquid foam Type of reseeding or does it need to be a seed and do you just apply the seed and nothing goes on top of it to keep it moist. Just need more help.
Very good information brother. By the way ,which month of fall is better to star overseed cool grass. I will really appreciate your reply . Thanks in advance. Lawn whisperer. 👍
Thanks for this info. Watched it back when it first was published. Today I watched your video of your first fall mowing after seeding and at the end you gave an update on the Bermuda. You mentioned that you would spray until temps get into the mid 70s. This brings me to wonder when you started your first app and when you stopped your last. I assume you stopped at some point before seeding so as to not harm seeding and new growth. Or is there no harm done at fall seeding with theses 2 products. Hope this makes sense. Just trying to understand when you stopped your last application ahead of fall over-seeding. Thanks again for your videos.
Can this be used on it in a zoysia yard having the same issue. Had a amazing yard and my jerk of a neighbor cut my yard without asking and has brought me a headache for sure.
Hey what a beautiful baby! I have a question though. Why is it necessary to use the combination of the fusilade and triclopyr? I have recently reseeded a portion of my lawn with Defiance XRE fescue blends. I actually tried to grow Bermuda last year but due to a preemergent I had used earlier my Bermuda didn't really happen. But, in its weakened growth crabgrass engulfed everything. So, in late August I killed all of the crabgrass to see if any Bermuda had survived. Very little was seen. I applied a preemergent again in February to suppress crabgrass long enough to look again for Bermuda and still very little was seen. So, I sprayed what was visible with glyphosate and then heavily plug aerated the area on seeded again with the Fescue. I have gotten a very good growth now at 21 days. However, I am seeing some Bermuda showing up. I would like to spot spray the Bermuda to kill it before it gets out of control. So, whats your thoughts?
I'd cut/raise a sculpted strip right down the property line, plant it with some perennial things toward my side, and then keep spraying or edging the back side of the strip My goal would be to give that line as much shade (fescue likes shade, Bermuda doesn't) and workable space as i could without giving myself more work to do, and without having it turn into an eyesore With the Bermuda that close to your lawn, it's going to be a never ending battle. I'd try to make the battle easier to fight. Sucks because it costs you, not your neighbor
Yo mang, will that mix of chemicals you sprayed ...damage tall fescue? And can I spray it on my TF lawn.. that has Bermuda intertwined in it? Because as you know it runs through EVERYWHERE! .... thanks!
Ok I got a question I have killed all of my Bermuda three applications well I’ve planted new tall fescue grass is growing wonderfully but my Bermuda is slowly growing back I’m pissed I bought some ornemac can I use this to kill the Bermuda and not hurt my new fescue lawn??
In So. California we call it “Devil Grass-El Diablo”. Bermuda that’s domesticated and well maintained is used on Golf course putting greens all over. It’s trimmed tight and it’s kept in check with a product called “Turflawn Ester” Those in the landscape industry spray that several times during the warm season to keep the “Bermuda at Bay” Turflawn Ester won’t kill your tall fescue.
Hi I have a 4 years grass but the guys who made it didn’t remove quack grass/ Bermuda grass correctly and now I’m infested.did your mix succeeded to remove it? Thank you Benoit from France
What about Bayer Advanced 'Bermudagrass Control for Lawns' ?? Its a ready-to-spray at most big box stores. fenoxaprop-p-ethyl is the active ingredient.
It’s August, I have the products you recommended. I’m planning on spraying this week. The question is should I just kill everything and overseed, using seed super store (full sun tall fescue). I have a sprinkler system in the front. My back yard is completely screwed and probably should just kill everything off. I also need some dirt for leveling in both the front and the back. BTW, I’m just south of Louisville.
Just bought a bottle of fusilade ii to try and control the quackgrass problem in our yard. Do you have any opinions on that product, advice, or anything else for somebody that's about to use it?
Did it kill any of the bermuda over on your neighbors side? I have the same issue. The neighbor next to me has bermuda in the front yard and centipede in there back yard. Both of course are running into my Turf Type Tall Fescue. Thinking of using pylex in my front yard to battle bermuda crossing the line and using quinclorac to battle the centipede crossing over in the back. They say nothing gets rid of centipede in fescue. But I sprayed some Q4 in my fescue to kill some crabgrass and discovered that it also killed the centipede off as well.
I’m in Massachusetts 25 minutes outside of Boston. I bought my house about 9 months ago and trying to get my grass up to par. I notice that my lawn looks patchy and not uniform. Today I got down and pulled up this Bermuda grass and googled and RUclipsd it. Some spots it looks like it won’t even let my lawn grow and it stays short. Driving me crazy. This summer a lot of my neighbors tell me how green and nice my lawn looks. However if you come close to it or walk on it you will soon see that it has a lot going on. I swear it has like 3-4 different grasses in it. Should I kill my whole lawn and start over with one type of grass seed?
I have similar to this in brazil but they have these little potatoes deep underground. They are natural from rivers banks and they can live semi submerged, but in lawns they are devils. I wonder if they are related to wild bermuda.
Coulda shoulda buried a barrier between the yards when the lawn was killed. Catching and pulling the above ground stuff just takes vigilance. Keeping out the below ground stuff is impossible. You’ll be spraying for the rest of your life because as long as it’s next door it’ll never stop coming. “Bermuda is a beast” at the least.
@@davidgonzales-ec8bo 😜 I’m a man of my word haha! But in all seriousness it came back and I sprayed it again, and I didn’t see any the following year before I sold the house
This is the same two products I'm researching, Fusilade 2 and Triclopyr, for treating/supressing bermudagrass in a tall fescue lawn. But I thought your suppose to use these in the spring only before it gets too hot ? I know what you mean about bermudagrass! I've total killed my whole be yard, 10,000 sq. ft. twice in 10 years. Arrrrgghhh! lol, thanks, John G
Definitely better for your fescue to use when its cooler. However, my Bermuda in my lawn doesnt show its face until it's too hot. Gotta pick whether you want to get rid of the Bermuda or want to do less damage to your fescue
Hello, my friend....care to help? Had quite a bit of BG in my Tall Fescue turf. think I screwed up...I mixed it at about 1.25 oz/1000ft/1Gl (basically the mix for spot treatment) and put it down on about half the yard. Three weeks later and the BG is definitely halted but my TF looks terrible. My question: do you know if the Fescue will recover in the fall? Is there anything I can do to bring it back to life now? Or will it just need an overseed? thanks! Learn from me guys...also I did it in the heat of summer. Also not a good idea. I was just too excited to have something that could actually kill that BG!
@@TheLawnWhisperer Came across this video again. Lol. My TTTF is looking mostly good but even some of my overseeding didn't take well in those areas really hit with the Fusilade II. That stuff is no joke. Definitely going to go way more conservative with it this year if the BG comes back. I hit it so hard I'm not sure it will this year. Will be interesting!
Need a defensible border. Concrete footer or something that gives you a fighting chance. I have similar issues but with Buffalo Grass. Not quite as aggressive as Bermuda but hard to kill. I’ve seen a product called Pylex that’s supposed to work but it’s outrageously expensive!
Such cute kids omg! How's your front lawn recovering? I know it's been a real bitch of a summer with all this rain, one day here in Pittsburgh we got 4 inches in an hour that did my lawn in unfortunately, Fall can't come soon enough!
A little bit, yes. My recommendation would be to spray early morning or evening. I sprayed in the heat if the day for the sake of having the lighting for the video
@@Egleone6 just be careful to not over apply and apply it at the right time. I would apply early fall when the good turf is growing and not dormant and the Bermuda is still growing. And apply it when it's not too hot out, so early morning or late evening
Now i do dislike the bermuda, and I like my fescue, but I also like the clover growing in my fescue. Do you have a product recommendation thatll be safe for clover?
Monterey Spurge Power will kill clover, but will not kill your grass, it’s a selective herbicide. Monterey is the same company that makes Turflon Ester, some people have mentioned that product in the Comments section. I use Spurge Power every year to kill off whatever misc weeds crop up in the spring, including clover, and then I’m good the rest of the season.
One question: as far as the research that you did, did you find that you need BOTH of those products to work effectively, or did you find that each one of them individually works, and you just wanted to use both to be sure? Thanks dude!
Good luck my man! I'm just glad my lawn is bermuda, so I don't have to worry about it. I love when the army invades! Keep up the good content! Your channel encouraged me to start my own. Thanks!
@@TheLawnWhisperer Haha! Definitely a downside to bermuda, dormant for a good chunk of the year. I don't mind it around the holidays though...gives me more time for my Christmas display :)!

This is the advice I need! My fescue is looking great other than a huge patch of Bermuda.
How did you renovate your lawn in the first place. Did you dig it out and then roundup. Or roundup and put topsoil over then sod?
I wonder if applying GreenNe Effect 7-0-0 would help fescue while suppressing the bermuda.
Thanks for the info. I'm fighting bermuda from the high school football field behind me! ARRGG!
Hi, Thank your service. i need the know if i am in Colorado is the Southern ag surfactant the right product to use in the north?
I have a full Bermuda front and back yard what’s the best way to go from that to tall fescue
Your next project ... Power Wash n seal your cement patio. I just did. Love your channel man.
Gotta watch those newer vids
You won me over with "that's what she said" earn yourself a sub
I'd cut/raise a sculpted strip right down the property line, plant it with some perennial things toward my side, and then keep spraying or edging the back side of the strip
My goal would be to give that line as much shade (fescue likes shade, Bermuda doesn't) and workable space as i could without giving myself more work to do, and without having it turn into an eyesore
With the Bermuda that close to your lawn, it's going to be a never ending battle. I'd try to make the battle easier to fight.
Sucks because it costs you, not your neighbor
Yo mang, will that mix of chemicals you sprayed ...damage tall fescue? And can I spray it on my TF lawn.. that has Bermuda intertwined in it? Because as you know it runs through EVERYWHERE! .... thanks!
I live in Ohio and I am fighting bermuda grass. Looking for what has helped in northern areas. 2nd year fighting it!
Same here
Ok I got a question I have killed all of my Bermuda three applications well I’ve planted new tall fescue grass is growing wonderfully but my Bermuda is slowly growing back I’m pissed I bought some ornemac can I use this to kill the Bermuda and not hurt my new fescue lawn??
Hi
I have a 4 years grass but the guys who made it didn’t remove quack grass/ Bermuda grass correctly and now I’m infested.did your mix succeeded to remove it? Thank you Benoit from France
I hate wild Bermuda too, battled for years in CA, used turflon in past which seemed to slow the growth but never get rid of it
What about Bayer Advanced 'Bermudagrass Control for Lawns' ?? Its a ready-to-spray at most big box stores. fenoxaprop-p-ethyl is the active ingredient.
Any updates on Bermuda invasion?
Sorry, I haven't researched more videos before asking, but how has this been going two years in?...
Is there a big difference between Hi Yield Turflon Ester and Monterey Turflon Ester Specialty Herbicide?
Thanks for the video ! How is the Bermuda looking now?
Haven’t had any back yet 👍
Has it come back since this video?
@@jjrivera4 I moved 2 years ago 🤷🏻♂️
Did you continue watering after the applications of weed killer were applied?
Our neighbors yard is also causing a problem with this. My landscape is becoming overrun. Is this product safe for flower beds? Thank you!
Hey great video bro ! The music at 7:04 to 7:20 what's the song called where could I find it thanks
I'll have to look it up when I get home!
Great vid. How is deck painting going?😀
I would rather keep spraying or learn to deal with it than put a barrier between yards
Trying to find a sprayer wand/tip that doesn’t dribble everywhere! Having a hard time. Any suggestions?
Did you ever get rid of your Bermuda?
I sold the house 😂
@@TheLawnWhisperer lol. I knew it. You said in the video, if you can't get rid of the Bermuda you would sell the house. Lol
@@davidgonzales-ec8bo 😜 I’m a man of my word haha! But in all seriousness it came back and I sprayed it again, and I didn’t see any the following year before I sold the house
@@TheLawnWhisperer I still have Bermuda grass. The fight continues. Wish me luck.
Did you ever end up getting rid of the Bermuda?
Sounds like a good challenge. Good luck!
Need a tip for warm season st auggy grass Bro
Did your way worked ? Did you get rid of Bermuda ?
@@TheLawnWhisperer Ok, thank you
Hello, my friend....care to help?
Most likely will need to seed those spots this fall
@@TheLawnWhisperer Came across this video again. Lol. My TTTF is looking mostly good but even some of my overseeding didn't take well in those areas really hit with the Fusilade II. That stuff is no joke. Definitely going to go way more conservative with it this year if the BG comes back. I hit it so hard I'm not sure it will this year. Will be interesting!
Nice video bro!
Ill rather deal with wild bermuda than with puncture vine, i literally cant find any info on how to knock it out
This stuff is growing under my landscape covering and wood chips such a pain to get rid of
Do you wait and mow every 2 weeks also?
Very much appreciated!
Yeah it's like 400 bucks a bottle. No thanks
Have you heard of a product called "Tenacity Turf Herbicide"?? What do you think?
It won’t kill Bermuda. May stunt it for a bit but won’t kill it
The products you mention are good - but Pylex is the absolute best for Bermuda control but it's expensive.
I agree. Pylex is best... but aint nobody got money for dat!
Such cute kids omg! How's your front lawn recovering? I know it's been a real bitch of a summer with all this rain, one day here in Pittsburgh we got 4 inches in an hour that did my lawn in unfortunately, Fall can't come soon enough!
Not perfect but much better than it looked 2 weeks ago! I'm ready for fall
I have the same problem in my PRG KBG mix with my neighbors. Its always weird for me to see Bermuda in Nebraska.
I agree with The Lawn Tools. Just embrace it!
How soon after over seeding can you use these products?
I would not spray these on freshly seeded cool season grass. Will probably have to wait til next year
@@TheLawnWhisperer What i figured. Thanks for the video, my wild Bermuda has gotten out of hand.
Did it work?
Anyone used it on perennial ryegrass? Does it really damage it?
Gotta get that Bermuda grass!!
not worried about those massive brown stripes in my lawn though!
Did you have any burn off of your lawn turf after you applied this?
A little bit, yes. My recommendation would be to spray early morning or evening. I sprayed in the heat if the day for the sake of having the lighting for the video
The Lawn Whisperer I need to try this. Along with a good turflon ester. But was told if will kill lots of the turf.
@@Egleone6 just be careful to not over apply and apply it at the right time. I would apply early fall when the good turf is growing and not dormant and the Bermuda is still growing. And apply it when it's not too hot out, so early morning or late evening
Needed this!
Now i do dislike the bermuda, and I like my fescue, but I also like the clover growing in my fescue. Do you have a product recommendation thatll be safe for clover?
I'm sorry, I do not
Monterey Spurge Power will kill clover, but will not kill your grass, it’s a selective herbicide.
The combination of both together was most effective in the study!
Good luck my man! I'm just glad my lawn is bermuda, so I don't have to worry about it. I love when the army invades! Keep up the good content! Your channel encouraged me to start my own. Thanks!
Plan C: convert to a Bermuda lawn and just have a green lawn from mid june to end of august in indiana haha
@@TheLawnWhisperer Haha! Definitely a downside to bermuda, dormant for a good chunk of the year. I don't mind it around the holidays though...gives me more time for my Christmas display :)!
So tell me my grass brother.... did it work? And have you ever considered a small fence to just block the vine like berMURDA ?
Yes it worked and no, no fence
@@TheLawnWhisperer I am in the same situation. I want to curb stomp my neighbor for not keeping up with his yard ! I mean it doesn’t have to be on my level but shit he is the laziest POS I have ever seen ! His dip shit Bermuda creeps along into my side and fucks up my award winning fescue show ! How many ounces of surfactant per thousand sq ft?

Has ANYONE tried this in a cool season mix of Kentucky Blue Grass, Perennial Rye & Tall Fescue? If so, did it work or did it kill the grass?
My grass is only 100% Bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) flower and I don’t know got to get rid of it
So your grass is all Bermuda and you want to get rid of it all and switch to a different grass type?
I live in Northern KY and about a third of my front yard is Bermuda. I've been trying so hard to have a nice lawn, but it'll never happen until the Bermuda is dealt with. Release the kraken!
Glyphosate
Is this going to hurt my fescue grass?
I have the same issue in my yard in Tennessee
