    Batman's style of not saying a single word during the ride to the cave and using just his eyes to communicate with Vicki is so Keatonesque.

    But we as an audience still don't have any damn clue what he's thinking about. It makes him scarier and more unpredictable.

      I like Nolan's movies, but some people seem to think a character speechifying about the themes of a movie is depth. Movies generally were not like that in the 80s, and Batman 89 really wasn't all that different from its contemporaries yet it's accused of being shallow.

    This is the best scene of the movie IMO. Burton's Batman was actually a detective. And Keaton is superb, first as shy and defensive and then suddenly aggressive and controlling. And he's mysterious througout. And then the Batman whips his cape up and bats fly, my single favorite moment in ANY Batman movie.

    Note how Burton kept him in the shadows ...and he avoided her attempts to see his face ...then confronted her ...and the cape reveal and bats flying .. Burton was able to keep the mystery and near supernatural aspects of the Batman in tact in this scene. Keaton voice was so effortless and quiet .... definitely desplayed that less is more.

    I love how they made use of the lighting and shadows when Vicki and Batman are in the Batcave. Batman's 'face' is never entirely visible. When he is sitting down at the computer and explaining how Joker's poison works, his mouth is visible, but his eyes are blacked out. And then when he sits up and is standing off the side, his eyes are visible, but his mouth is blacked out. That is such a cool detail.

      I agree. Same as Jack as the joker. I did not realize how scary creepy & nuts Jack's joker was. He truly has no plan. He just does whatever is in his crazy head which changes on a dime. Look at him with viki he loves her yet he sprays acid at her. Keaton is intimidating w/I that distracting gravel voice bale had. Plus u gotta love the first guys in. Keaton is the gold standard. Not saying bale isnt great but a different era different style. Their have been 3 excellent top notch jokers it's like choosing ur favorite kid u love them all differently. Christopher Reeve as superman is the gold standard & cavill is fine but I cant see anyone topping reeve. Or even competing. He was everything & more of superman. Kind but not corny. That's not easy to pull off. Margot kidder is the best lois lane. In the first film her hair makeup & wardrobe was on point. When dinner left & u see his shots vs Lester's u see the difference esp in lois. They did not make her look good at all. I'll never understand why they fired donner who had shot 75% of superman 2 as the salkans were strange at first they were very generous with brando who still holds the record for highest paid for the shortest amt of days shooting. He got that dream back end of the gross. Plus 4 million up front. Donner got a million for both films. Then the movie makes 220 million in 1978 bucks. They were sly in doing 2 films at once. Then they got cheap. They could use Brando's footage bc they paid him for both films but they tried to screw him out of the backend of the 2nd films gross so he was about to sue them so they dropped his awesome footage that surfaced on the Donner cut & had superman talking to his mother ?? Hackman did not come back he was so pissed what they did to donner so they used a voice actor & body double for behind scenes. The salkans were pissed off that donner went over time but he was making 2 films at once for godsakes & he made extra footage that they could sell to tv that was not in the film. Theirs like an hour of extra footage . That's a lot if shooting. The donner cut is great. It's sad they pulled the plug & used the turning back time in the 1st film which he wanted to use in the 2nd but had no time. So his plan was to come up with a new ending. When u watch the donner cut its depressing what might have been. Like how lois finds out is so much better with her shooting him & it's a blank & she says gotcha. They never shot it so used a screen test. Also when he changes he talks to brando & brando gives lois the death stare lol. The 3rd movie is only worth it for Clark vs superman the 4th is horrible.

The voices have different tones, intensity and pitches. Watch carefully, and remember it had to be done in one take. The writing, the directing, the art direction styles are completely different. Let's be honest as much as i love Burton's Batman i grew up with this Batman, this movies have a lot of flaws with the story and the motivations of the characters. Nolan did a better job in that case, just watch Batman Begins and it is a philosophical and psychological story about Batman.

    • @carnagemauns7673
      @carnagemauns7673 5 лет назад +6

      Very good your point of view and it's absolutely respectable, and like you I love the Nolan's work indeed, in fact for me is the best Batman saga so far, of course I mean an entire saga, cause in the other hand, as I said individually this movie is still better than any other one, yeah I liked a lot Batman Returns too and I agree that Nolan's films are gorgeus and I admire the way he could to adapt the Batman world as realistic as possible with all the deep plot those movies have that is not something easy to achieve, but as you say, "Let's be honest", this movie only this one, has all the elements to make it better, first of all, this one reivented the character, of course taking most of what was done by Alan Moore, taking the character to the Dark and frightening world as we know it today, putting it also as a base for the following versions, as an example most of the Batman suits are black among other things. The cast, well I can say that with both Nolan and Burton there are excellent actors, but although Christian Bale is an excellent one and I liked a lot his interpretation of Batman/Bruce Wayne, but I prefer Michael Keaton's, cause I feel less forced than with Christian, as for the Joker, is very harder to decide, cause Heath Ledger made a superb performance and even in a new way and Nicholson, c'mon, we're talking about Jack Nicholson, a living legend at the height of others like Robert De Niro, Al Pacino or Dustin Hoffman and simply his Joker performance is perfect as the clown prince of crime, but actually I think that talking about the Joker performance is matter of another discussion, as for the soundtrack, I recognize that Hans Zimmer is a genius and The Dark Knight trilogy themes are superb too, highlighting the Molossus theme, but c'mon again, Danny Elfman's Batman's theme, is simply one of those melodies that defines one character and all his world, in this case Batman, as well John Williams with Star Wars, Superman, Jurassic Park or Jaws themes; yeah I agree the fact that in Nolan's have more complex arguments and the plot in this one is simpler but enough necessary for it to work, so all that mixed results in this great work and for example is this video that contains all mentioned previously: excellent performances without much dialogue, an enveloping atmosphere, great designs like the forest, the Batmobile, the Batman costume and the Batcave, the sound effects and a masterly soundtrack that captivates you that causes the flaws that you mention are really minimals, becomes forgettables, like that scene where the Joker electrocutes a guy, resulting in the end entertaining and humoristic, but in the end of all, everything is a matter of taste, greetings.

    The glare he carries the entire ride in the batmobile was my favorite part of this entire film. He wore it well man. So cold how he said no words but communicated only with his eyes. The score . The way she mentions what "people" say the way he looks off searching for an answer when he says what people. This is truly the best batman movie ever made. He left looks like a figure you see in nightmares. The lighting upon his cowl the entire movie is a1 as well. Only batman movie where the lighting makes it seem like hes eyes are lit

    This will always be my favorite Batman scene out of any movie ever involving Batman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only was this back when Danny Elfman was on his game as a musical director/creator, but this was also back when the Batmobiles engines spewed Fire. Each Batman has their own pivotal top tier moments, and for that I love them all for their own dichotomy of reasons.

    Just so you guys know, he's not not looking at her for dramatic effect; the Batsuit for this film was made in such a way that he would have had to turn his entire upper body to face her. This wasn't rectified in future films until The Dark Knight.
    But hey it makes Bats look stoic as hell, so I guess it works.

    This scene feels more Batman than the entire Nolan trilogy. Nolan took all the mystique and intrigue away from Batman.

      Right. The older versions, did not have that. They had some kind of a Jet engine sound, but it was different kind of sound and mixed too low.

    You know that feeling you get when you are watching a promisingly good movie, and after a miraculously competent scene or montage occurs, it's catapulted into the extraordinary category? This is the scene that does that for me, anyway. With this sequence, Batman becomes forever linked in cinema to the German Expressionist films of 30's, a school from which Hitchcock arose. So it's hardly coincidental that this film evokes those sort of ghoulish, uber-man psychological thrillers, which also influenced the American film industry's monster horror genre.
