Anyhow, enjoy the ride broski, and congrats for the toddler..!!
This is almost what I did. I let my hair grow for about 6 months and over time it kind of sectioned off itself with a somewhat kind of part in the middle up to the center of the head. I just lightly twisted the tips of the ones that formed and left the roots tangled how they were since I'm more of freeforming but not exactly since I twisted the tips. After sleeping now the front and sides hang down, some of the middle stands up, a couple on the back kind of go at an angle, big ones, small ones. I still have frizzy hair but not bothered by it, if they grow in they do if not that's fine. Been like 2 weeks
i don't know if its only me but when i try the thing that makes your in coils it only works in the front any suggestions on how it can work on the back?
Speaking of which, I doubt Gunther will see this because of how many people comment, but if you do see this you should try a bonnet so your hair doesn't get squish and turned into flat locs

He has a video describing different hair grades. That being said you dont necessarily need to know your hair grade to start locs. There are many methods. Free form which is to leave them alone and form on their own. ( Not my personal favorite because it's too wild for me ) Visit a loctician (also not personal favorite because its expensive and can be dangerous) Or twist them yourself. Which also depends on the length you start. For example sponges, towel rubs, crocheting, palm rubbing. Just stay away from products. Shoot for natural light oils that's water soluble.

Id say that's semi free form if there is such a thing. Any manipulation at all is not allowing your hair to do what it wants which is true freeform. Personally I dont fault anyone for not going freeform because while I've never been to any locticians - I still separate my locs during washes. If I let my hair do it's own thing - I'd probably have a total of 4 giant Congo's. That's just not for me .

It really dont matter tell you the truth you can freeform from a small afro compend if you got 4a or higher in the 4 range. Been freeforming for 6 month dude it not for everyone because it too wild or whatever lol.
Take a look at his old videos. He has a ton of vids that will more than likely answer all your questions. It's weird seeing him with such short hair because hes been in the loc game well before me and now my hair is longer than his.

I’d say wait till it reaches 2 or more. cause if you use a sponge on 1.5 inch hair it probably won’t look that good and show a lot of your scalp
