Looks Awesome Peggy really like how the stain makes the grain pop on the outside of the bowl love the natural grain on the inside as well. I mite have tried to match the inside to the outside but i think what you did was the right idea. Thanks for the great idea.

Unbelievable...the colors really help the grain come out, as you said. With the Acks...holy Toledo. I so admire your ability to work through the “preschool art” stage. I usually do leave a foot, people tend to leave bowls on counters which somehow always form magical puddles left by fairies (at least allegedly that's who leaves them and never cleans them up at my house....) Also, as you mentioned, this allows re-turning and easy sanding in case things get a bit beaten up someday.

On bowls, I usually create a mortise and then turn a narrow shallow foot ring, typically 1/4" in width x 1/8" to 1/4" in height. That creates just enough of a shadow line under the bowl. On platters turned from 8/4 thick rounds, I'll typically make a tenon because I am too prone to making funnels if I use a mortise. A pre-treatment with thinned sanding sealer will help you get a more even coat of color on that first application especially the end grain areas. And I watch all of your videos to the end, pumpkins or not.

Just attended the turner symposium in Waco, TX. I saw the Intrinsic dyes, but hesitated to invest in the (previously) unknown. I find joy when woodgrain pops under a finish. That maple is amazing!
Check out Peke safety for a face shield air filter combo. Mine is comfortable, even over my glasses, and quiet. An exploding segmented urn proved the value of a strong frame and bump cap combo.
