Such a helpful video, thank you! It was the first video to pop up in my search and now I know why. Out of all the videos, this one is most thorough and easy to follow.
Nice video, Maria. One method of propagation you should try is "air layering". I just finished one on my "mini-monstera". I think you could do one, or several nodes at the same time. It took about three weeks to get good roots. (wrap the node in sphagnum moss covered by plastic wrap tied at either end. Keep the moss moist. I did mine without cutting part way through the stem at a 45 degree angle and dusting the cut with rooting hormone. But that's the way I'll do it in the future. I think you can do either one node, or several at the same time. Once the roots grow out, you just finish the cut on the existing plant stem.
You seem such a joyful and nice person! I guess your friends would have been so happy to receive those cuttings. I will try myself these methods of propagation :)
Very interesting. I had a cutting of RT in water for 10 months and it never grew any roots, although it sprouted some new leaves. Yesterday I planted it in soil to see if that would help, but now after watching your video here, I'm going to clean it up and transfer it to clay balls.
I have been doing this too! I've had luck with golden pothos, brazil and heartleaf philodendron. My scindapsus pictus did not seem to like it in there though, the leaves all curled up and no roots formed.
@@mrmas2535 I switched back to just water I realized that has the fish waste levels fluctuate like ammonia nitrates etc can have impact on the cuttings. The moving aerated water is good and warmth
@@mrmas2535 may not depending what fish etc. I have a 100gal with an Oscar very high in waste so water levels fluctuate too much for sensitive cuttings. Other tanks may work well
@@maryhurren6938 Oh cool, I have a tub full of guppies. I am close to seperating out the males and females to control the population. It's amazing how fast they breed and grow.
Wow this was so helpful, i bought some clippings and was unsure what to do with them, the lady gave me the lava rocks with them, so i am hopeful of this method! Thank you so much for this video!! 🪴💖
This was so helpful! I’ll be rooting my cuttings in semi hydro from now on. The water in the semi hydro container looked clear, but maybe that’s because the fertilizer had sunk to the bottom. Can I ask whether you used fertilizer in that one?
I had a hard time rooting in sphagnum, but from the looks of this I think leca is a really good way to go! Thanks for doing such a long-form video, I’m sure it took a lot of work to put this together!
I have a ton of cutting sin sphagnum and I am noticing some rot and no roots after about 3 weeks. I am about to just toss them all in some water after watching this.
@@danieljackson4266 yeah I feel like water is a lot easier to manage, and I’ve had great success with rooting hormone. The trick is to keep them moist enough when you eventually transfer them into your potting medium, but I’ve had a much higher survival rate with water than sphag, since 100% of my cuttings in sphag have rotted
Thank you so much for this informative video. I’m wondering like a few others here what you put in the leca water? Did you put fertilizer or nutrient water? Any tips would be greatly appreciated as this is my first go with leca.
This is super interesting, I put a cutting I received in soil because I thought it would root better. It didn’t root at all so I transferred it to water! Now I’m thinking about planting in it leca this is super helpful.
How can I coax mine to grow more than just the one branch? I love how yours split off into two... i want mine to that so I can cut on but don't want to stop the only vine it has from growing longer if that makes sense lol
I loved your video! Thanks for the tips. 😍 We're trying our own experiment with a bunch of mini monstera cuttings. Will report back in a few weeks on how they turn out! We tried all except the soil. I'm so excited! 😄
Excellent video & so helpful! I’ve got one in desperate need of a trim & have been debating how to propagate the cuttings. I’ve always used water, but it’s my first one & like you keep reading that sphagnum moss is better for aroids like monstera & rhaphidora. Obviously that wasn’t the case for you lol… can I ask what that was you used in the part water propagation- was it lichee? (Sorry for the spelling)
Hey I just found your channel while breaking my head over this, so my lil Rhaphidophora tetrasperma was propagating in water and grew good roots after two months, but the moment I repotted it, it started wilting and almost as if drying out, and I kept the soil drained and moist and everything that I've been told and read about this. After watching it wilt and not adjust after 3 weeks, I switched it back to water and its doing just fine now. What should I do? because I definitely want to pot it properly.
Your mini monstera is beautiful! I love mine 💕 she's a rescued plant haha I love how they grow so fast! Thanks for sharing these different techniques. This info will be helpful for when I decide to propagate it! I will happily subscribe 😊

Love this video because you include the before and after. I propagate all my plants in leca since my plants grow in semi-hydro anyway. Makes for an easy transition since there is no disturbance to the roots. Thank you for this video.
Hi! Silly question, but where did you get that large black tray you're using? I've been looking for something exactly like that so I don't get dirt everywhere! Thanks!
@ 5:00 is literally the only place on the internet that I could find which addresses what happens to the mother Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma when you make cuttings from the top. I just repotted a very successful water rooting propagation (about 5 nodes/new plants) but none of them are popping out new leaves :( Does anyone know how long this can take?
How would you suggest transferring a water root propagation into soil? I water propagated and it took months but I finally have a long root (2in maybe) and small roots coming off that. I would like to transfer to soil to start to have it grow as we enter spring/ summer!
Do you keep the cuttings in a plastic bag or container to preserve humidity when rooting cuttings? I've never rooted anything outside of water besides tradescantia
Thanks for the video, I also have a plant channel. I’m wanting to prop mine as well. For some strange reason the new leaves aren’t fenestrated. I usually prop in water or leca too.😉
I’m struggling with the cuttings I bought 😭 1 of the 2 I have fully rotted away today... I’ve had them in leca, water, then sphagnum, then back to water, then back to sphagnum and now the one survivor is back in leca as of tonight cause it’s just not happy!!! Gonna leave it now and hope it makes it 😓 losing hope 😂
Hi, I have a cutting in soil, still alive but little root growth. Can I put it in water or will that shock the cutting since it’s trying to grow in soil? Thanks! Love your video!
hmmm I'm not sure about this one I've never taken a cutting out of soil and back into water- personally I don't know if I would go this route- but it's also all about experimentation!
Hi! I just extracted my manjula pothos from soil because it is getting root rot (because I'm bad at watering, too wet sometimes too dry.). When i popped tht cutting in water it immediately spurts 1 new shoot couple of days after. The plant perked up too, was limp previously. I'm not sure abt raphidophora but i guess the concept is similar. You can try, then update us😝😜

Did you chop yours? Currently watching so I can chop and prop a variegated stem 😬
Thank you so much for showing the actual cutting of the prop! I always over think where I need to cut and end up wasting more plant than I need to!

Make an herbarium from the cutted leaves hihi
Is the cutting touching the water in leca? Or above the water line?
it looks like just above it
the bottom 1/3 of the pot sits in leca- so yes the roots will touch the water as they grow
Que simpatica

Yeah moss is not good. Mine did not root at all in moss
But the soil rooted didn’t die so I say that’s a bigger success.
