Magic Neck Release

  • Do you believe that moving your toes and legs can improve posture and release tension in the neck? This practice is like a nervous system magic trick! We will combine the use of the felt sense of somatic movement with nerve gliding to find more comfort and increase the range of motion in the neck. This practice can be particularity beneficial if you have "head forward" syndrome; when you knowingly or unconsciously keep the position of your head forward of your center of gravity. You will need a wall to sit against, a slippery floor and/or socks so your feet and legs can slide.

    I have gotten feedback from several students that sitting against the wall is not comfortable. If that’s the case, you can learn the movements and then do them while lying on your back. Initially, I teach students to use the wall or floor to be able to locate and return the neck and back to a neutral but organic posture (no head forward). When your body mapping gets better at recognizing when your skull is sitting properly on the spine, you can also do this seated without the wall and use hands on the floor behind you for support. 🙏

      Thank you! I was wondering if it would be possible to do the movements lying down

      @@elli8438 on the floor is my preferred way to do it, but you typically see this taught seated with hands holding you up. Let me know how the floor works.

    • @MeganMacCarthy
      @MeganMacCarthy  2 года назад +1

      Hi Maria you can also try this lying down on your back and do the neck and leg movements the same. As far as other videos, if you are not familiar with my channel, I would recommend my Back Care playlist. Midback specifically will benefit from any torso movements like this video: ruclips.net/video/KpwkfPVPngo/видео.html

    • @MeganMacCarthy

    • @MeganMacCarthy

      The discomfort can move. It nay be do to the way you were sitting; so you may want to try it lying down. And follow up with a gentle back movement like arch and curl.
