Way down at the bottom of their kickstarter page you find "Richard LeGrand Watches is an independant watch company based in Sigapore and is founded by Alson Lee"
Good eye! Thank you!!
I will never trust a watch with a name that long.
Patek Philippe? Vacheron Constantin? Jaeger LeCoultre? A. Lange & Sohne? I could go on.
The Time Teller using logic and facts to argue with a RUclips commenter is always a losing battle.
Internet 101: Don't feed the trolls.
Double-dome sapphire, ceramic dial, NH35A movement, and finishing details found on watches that are far more expensive. The value rivals Seiko/Orient at the $299 price point, and that's amazing!
Loving this watch so far. Wearing it right now. It just feels sturdy while looking great.
Why can't seiko put sapphire and ceramic at a decent price. If the only difference from this watch and the Seikos under $1,000 is the 6r15 movement then all seikos between $500-$1,000 should have sapphire and ceramic.
Because Grand Seiko is clearly the favorite child and gets all the attention.
RejZoR Exactly. Unfortunately, Seiko obviously wants to adopt the pricing psychology of the Swiss brands, i.e. higher price = higher status. I think they are starting to feel insecure about being a "cheap alternative" (even though that's not true). I actually blame watch snobs for causing the mentality. The ironic part is I think the strategy will actually hurt sales, so hopefully it backfires and prices come back down eventually.
Because they can, really. Their brand prestoge haa gone up in recent years and by discontinuing the 6R15 SARBs and replacing them with the 4R35 Cocktail Times, they are making consumers pay more for their premium movements.
You should check out the SARB033
the wholesale on a sapphire is about 30 bucks 20 for a ceramic bezel insert, so they can, but they do not.
I'm not going to give you grief over a microbrand. In the case of the Richard LeGrand, it's a very stylish Seiko movement watch. What's to gripe about? love the blue dial and the superlumanova!
My only gripe is the name - 'Penis the Large' Still might buy it.
It's an impressive offering. I think they nailed the details of the styling. Classy and sporty
@@kleinbottled79 Would you rather it say Penis the Petite?
Wow, only mentioned Seiko 3 times in this episode and Jory talks up a micro brand? 😄 I like it! Keep it up and keep sharing the micro brand love Jory!
Maybe even once a month he can discuss a different micro brand on like Monday. Maybe we could get a Micro brand Monday.
Maaaaan!!! I'm trying to save money to travel and you show me this amazing blue dial it's not fair!!!!!
Have you herd of Helm Khuraburi ? It’s a very impressive ISO Diver that’s $300. NH38 movment, sapphire crystal and bezel insert, fully lummed, and comes with an amazing bracelet with one-sided screw-in links. Plus you also get a one piece Zulu strap with it. I’m not saying it’s better than the Odyssa, it’s a complete tool diver, nothing remotely dressy about it. From owning 2 and from the reviews I have seen it seems to be an absolute killer value.
surfitli , the Helm Vanautu ......total class
The Vanautu is also an excellent watch.
Their watches are out of stock until the fall. I kinda liked the blue with Orange.
After your review I bought on Mkll off Ebay.... spot on watch and review. Might look for a screw link / milled clasp bracelet or see how a mesh looks on it.
For a lower price and the same specs the Phoibos Wavemaster would be a good comparison. I have been very impressed with my Phoibos and find it more accurate than my Swiss watches.
Why'd you have to show me that watch, man? Now I want one...
Very similar to my personal dive watch, the Claude Bernard Aquarider 200m quartz, very cool Swiss microbrand as well
Hey Jory, good beard game dude! You could hide a Marathon Jumbo in there! The RLG looks a nice diver, impressed. Atb from Uk, Darreyl.
Nice overview, I like a micro brand when executed well. Reminds me of Nodus’ first watch the Trieste which was based on the blancpain bathyscaphe :) the ceramic dial and applied indices look great
Hi Jory! Thanks for identifying this micro. I have been wearing this watch for past month and I must say I am extremely pleased. I was "in" at early Kickstarter stage making the price point for me even more amazing! Your observations about transparency of manufacture etc are very well taken..Yes, a Singapore based venture but still some mystery.
I have the Blue rendition and I have to say the ceramic blue dial does some wonderful things in the light. It is a pleasure to look at indeed. bracelet very comfortable and yes I abhor the pins (which I was led to believe will displace in either direction) and i ultimately definitely had no issue removing 2 links.
I'm happy with the no date design. The Seiko engine performs as I would expect it toi owning numerous other timepieces with same movement.
One wish (not really a complaint) is that it might have been below the 40mm threshold...perhaps future models. So far, it wears quite comfortably..lume is outstanding. Logo/name derivative is no issue for me. Yes, my JLC Master Chrono elicits a different reaction when I strap it on, but let's be real!
BTW, an extremely small dot of pure silicone lube on threads made them respond much more comfortably.
Well...those are some initial impressions. Thanks again for identifying this piece. Totally enjoy ALL your material...I've learned a great deal.
The watch looks very nice, but I'd like to know more about the brand on the website. Who is Richard LeGrand? Watchmaker? Ambitious entrepreneur? Made up euro sounding name? On the surface it may be superficial, but his kind of matters to me when buying a watch, since a name is involved as the brand. The name represents a person and when you wear a watch with a name, it represents the product. If the site had an interesting story or company history it would help. If it's one of those fake euro names made just to sell product, it's a bit of a deterrent.
totally agree
@@eugenethomas4647 Wanted to buy one, now I can't
What micro brands are you buying that you are getting shotty quality? All the micro brands i own stand with the best of them.
Nice review 3T, to clean for me. Needs to be mote busy. Lume is impressive. 👍
i am not a great lover of diver watches but this is one of the best looking ones ive seen. it looks great on your 7.5 inch wrist but i dont know how it would fit on a smaller wrist, say just above 6.5 inches. any thoughts?
I have a few microbrand watches in my collection and I've been happy with them. Similar to this one is my "Blobfish" diver from Manchester Watch Works. It was $295, and it has some of the same characteristics of this Richard LeGrand piece, though the Ceramic Bezel on yours is clearly better. I agree that one can find quality automatic watches at this range, even without too many imperfections that are usually characteristics of watches at this level.
Jory, of course you like this watch...it is a Seiko diver (Seiko at heart). Really cool looking...I love the dial, bezel and arabics. This is definitely one to consider...As an aside if they gave you this watch I would be happy for you and still trust your opinion, don't worry about the haters. Thanks for another great video :)
My date version with the contrasting bezel arrived the other day and I thought it was worth mentioning that the new models have arrows added to the bracelet links, fixing that one particular issue.
love the video, as always. to your comment about a watch you lust about online, get it and it disappoints, for me that would be the new model of the Certina DS action diver, very disappointing. I do have the older one with the blue dial, which is amazing, but its up for sale actually.
The Helm Vanuatu is THE best watch for $275.00. BGW9 lume on dial AND Bezel NH35 and sapphire crystal. better bracelet and NATO strap.
Patrick Chip Own both and your right. The RL is photogenic and from a distance appears to be more expensive but when you get up close you see the build quality, lume and quality of bracelet of the Helm, you know you’ve a tool/diver as opposed to the RL which is a dress / diver
Got so psyched to get a bronze watch after watching that patina vid! Any bronze watches to recommend under $500?
I love the look, love it love it love it. But swap the NH35 for a 9015 and I'm 100% in. Hard to justify buying another NH35 watch with all the 4R36's Seiko is putting out nowadays.
I really wish it had a small, vertical date window at 6. it's annoying when you have to check your phone for the date when you have such a nice watch
Hmm. I'm really considering selling my skx for that.
it is made in Singapore with Seiko Automatic movement
Great video, my only complaint with micro brands is every time I pull up the website the model I want is sold out, I will try the Richard Legrand website out, maybe they are different.
William Hill: At the RLG website you can activate e-mail notification when new models are available. Works like a charm. Just ordered the Mark III Oceanmaster. Will be delivered December 2019. Cannot wait.
I feel like the watch is comparable in style and features to the Orient Mako, which I think you aren't a fan of. Not sure why though, I think both look great!
Sharp looking watch. Seems like very good value for money.
I plan on get this!
My vote for best watch under $300 goes to Phoibos Reef Master. $239 gets double domed ar coated sapphire crystal, 300m wr, lumed sapphire bezel, NH35, dlc coating and bgw9 lume.
If it were 39mm or at least 40mm. Watch makers should offer size options. Some do, but the majority does not.
Other solid choices in a similar price bracket. E.g Glycine combat sub 42 automatic. I'd spend a $100 or so more and know I'm getting a great watch and movement. Sure, it doesn't have a ceramic bezel but noone really gives a shit. It has saphire glass and AR.
Definitely should do more videos on microbrand watches!!
And the case is similar/same as Lorier! Same factory?
Specs wise it's not a bad deal for the money at all but honestly the styling is a little generic and if you visit the website it's obvious the Chinese manufacturer simply chose a fancy sounding English name that he thought sounded "classy" and then decided to corn it up even more with the "Odyssea" play on words. Oddly enough the case back of the watch is the most interesting thing about it other than that it's kind of a yawn style wise.
Singapore. I had a flight connection that had a leg cancelled there. Totally different mindset than China.
I don't think this watch is at all generic. It his a sweet spot between classes and sporty pretty spot on. Being a Singapore company, it's going to really be 200m water resistant, with Ann oiled movement, etc. Those guys came get away with driving a mile and hour over the speed limit and there's not a scrap of litter on the ground. Pretty impeccable customer service as well.
A really nice looking watch.
where to buy this from ?? whenever I check their site this particular model is OOS and you need to preorder it !
Victor inbox automatics come in under $300 and have a 28,800 bph ETA movement. Just sayin.
Anyone figure out which direction the pins come out? No sense in ALL of us banging on our watch....
Can’t live with that logo though
How about a $1900 NOS Omega Geneve from the T&H Shop??
TTT - did you have any difficulty removing the pins from the links? RL claims they can be pushed from either side, but I can’t for the life of me remove the pins. It’s like they’re glued in. Don’t want to pay $15 to have someone do it for me.
You have a great beard game. Do you trim it yourself or have it touched up professionally?
I go to a pro. 😂
Aaarrgghh!!! A micro brand??!! I'm *FREAKING OUT!!!!!*
Well looks okay not going to lie but I'll stick with my Vostok amphibian for the cost of less than a hundred bucks and has history behind it :p
I love your videos and I did buy a Timex Metropolitan as my dress watch from your recommendation
Nice under the hood but like a salmon coloured Cadillac it has to appeal to the buyer.
Jory, I suggest that you check out the microbrand Helm. Not only are their watches totally cool, their communication is second to none. Your comment about not knowing anything about microbrand companies doesn't apply to Helm as you can talk at length with the owners. Gives you confidence in the company
I wasn’t referring to microbrands as a whole- I was complaining specifically about Richard LeGrand.
I bought a Helm Vanuatu a couple of weeks back - I'm very happy with the watch, it feels bomb proof. I too wonder what The Time Teller would think of it
Black Ash ...I'm wearing mine now, it's so much watch for the money. Just One More Watch reviewed it and raved about it, I would be interested to know how T3 would see it
I'm awaiting the release of Helm's 40mm diver. I love their attention to detail. Besides the staunch hugeness of their current offerings, neither dial design quite lands as a home run for my taste. I hope the 40mm offering isn't too busy or quite as huge in it's elements as I love their attention to detail and I'd really like to love the design of their soon to be released 40mm diver from them.
The blue is sold out... I would very much like a date, but it's nice without it too.
If the brand name was Steve Zissou I would have bought this watch without any hesitation.
Raffy Taffy??
The Vostok Amphibia .... !!!
Going broke 1 $300 watch at ...ahem..a time.
Thanks Jory.
I have to ask, do you dive?
I really like this watch. The Odyssea II is very nice too. Which I am saving up for. Also have you ever hear of the Reactor watches?
Great looking piece. Love the dial and the case back.
So, for under $300, China origin?
The Monty Python 'biggus dickuss' unfortunate name, nice watch.
Eh, I'd rather save up a bit more money and get an automatic Marathon diver.
It's a sexy time piece. Seen it reviewed elsewhere as well and I love it.
Echoing
surfitli
, could you take a look at Helm's offerings? I'd be curious to see your thoughts on the Vanuatu.
It's kind of poking at a Fifty Fathoms design
Please more microbrands. Thank you.
Eh, the only thing you're paying for is a sapphire crystal. The design is more for a fashion diver. You're better off with a Citizen Day Date Promaster or a Seiko 5 blue dial.
Umm..... Ceramic sunburst dial, Sapphire bezel overlay, appealing design. Pretty strong offering going on actually. I like it a lot.
Crazy how Chinese watch companies and other watch companies that are Eastern try to make themselves look Western.
I like it, but would use the $300 (or more), to buy a Seiko myself. Great value for money but has no qudos whatsoever IF that's important to you?
Traska is a better value
Still rather have an skx
Ok review, but try to tone down with the shouting. Really annoying.
Vostok Amphibia is the best
When will people learn that having useless initials on a watch, has the risk of being a major turn off? Be gone with RL we dont need it. Keep the full name only. Dial would look much better.
It looks ok but bland, sapphire dial or not. I have a Borealis Portus Cale coming next month for $320 and except for the shiny looks better in every way.
First
A generic microbrand diver, with a silly made up name.... good review, but I'll stick to Seiko at this price. Cheers 👍
Pete Welsh you have excellent taste 👍 I'm a fellow 775 owner & agree completely.
Ha ha! It's just not your cup of tea. I wish Seiko would match those specs at that price point! This is by far the better deal and I for one really like the design.
Not sure why anybody actually needs a watch these days.phone does it all.
Wow
Jory 300 bucks is what I spent on my brand new SWISS MADE Tissot T-1000 seastar with ceramic bezel and it looses only 1 sec of time a day. Yeah I think we can all do better than that micro brand for the money.
“SWISS MADE” 😂🤦🏻♂️
Awesome. LOL. Keep the videos coming.
