It was how it should have been done: its own thing, but with references to past iterations. If only current versions of transformers was the same. So many new things just feel like whats come before in one way or another instead of being truly new and creative.

I swear the hate that Michael bay gets is really not even a logical hate. People have nothing better to do but hate. I loved this movie and Michael Bay's vision for the transformers that we still see rhe amazing fruits to this day. I personally I'm not a fan of the designs of the bumblebee movie, Always preferred the more realistic alien complex look the robots had.

I grew up with Transformers. Armada Unicron was my first transformer. My brother’s was Beast Wars Scorponok. Never got into the shows that came out at the time such as “The Unicron Trilogy”. However, the first movie blew my 11 year old mind to bits, and this movie (and Godzilla Final Wars) made me want to be a filmmaker. Without the live action movies, I wouldn’t be a full blown Transformers fan like I am today, as well as me following my dreams to being a filmmaker. And people can say all they want about Michael Bay, but the man brought a nearly dead 80’s IP back.

This is gonna be a long essay because you don’t know how much this movie means so much to me and still to this day it’s still means so much to me.
Rewatching this movie and I still get upset when people telling me Im not a fan of Transformers just because I grow up with these movies.
I guess the nonstop hate the Bayverse has gotten over the years.
I don't understand why it's such a hot topic, almost every day.
People will write giant comments on why they hate the movies, people will directly challenge your views when you say you like the movies, and it's just weird to me how negative people can get.
Like, I personally don't like a lot of TF media. I personally don't really like G1, the animated movie, the shows in the Unicron trilogy other than Armada, netflix, etc. but I have NO reason to go out of my way and type up incessant hate on any posts regarding those continuities. Like so what if I don't enjoy it?
Other people can. No one is right or wrong.
So why can't it be like that with Bayverse? It's ridiculous how many people start their comments with "I know the movies are terrible, but I like them" like bro just like them! You don't have to appeal to people hating on things you like. It's the basis of a healthy community, and even fandoms like Star Wars have learned that, but the TF fandom is still way behind.
If anything, people like to gaslight Bayverse fans by stating their opinions as facts.
I can't believe how many times someone has replied to me saying I like the movies with something like "but those movies are objectively bad movies" like sure, in your eyes, but I just like the movies. Full stop. I see them as good movies, and the Devastator scrotum joke didn't ruin the 2 hour movie for me.
I don't attack anyone for liking G1 or Netflix or whatever. That's ridiculous. But this fandom cannot help itself, and sometimes it's a straiaht war in the comments over a 15 vear old movie.
I don't attack anyone for liking G1 or Netflix or whatever. That's ridiculous. But this fandom cannot help itself, and sometimes it's a straight war in the comments over a 15 year old movie.
Transformers is one of my oldest interests, and I love that there's a community for it on here, but I have to admit.. as a Bayverse fan, I feel like a complete outcast in one of the least welcoming fandoms I'm currently in.

Every time I watch this movie, for the life of me, I just can't understand a lot of the criticisms. I think the humor works for the most part, none of it makes me roll my eyes, anyway. Megan Fox's acting is overblown in my opinion. People treat it as like the worst performance of all time, which I've never understood. By extension, I don't mind the human characters. I find myself invested in what they're doing throughout the films....except TLK. It would've been nice for more screen time on the Transformers themselves, but I understand why we have what we got.
Two things that I don't like about this movie, though; this also extends to the sequels. I don't like Prime/Primal with a mouth. I much, much more prefer they talk through the faceplate. But that's a small thing. The other aspect 'm not a fan of is how easily the Transformers can be torn apart. They feel so fragile, like they're toys with the loosest limbs imaginable. Not helping is that the Deceptions get this treatment the most, which just kills some of the tension for me.
But all-in-all, I love this movie. I may not have seen it in theaters, but I remember how big it was in my kindergarten class. I said this for your DotM video, but thank you for making positive videos on these films. They don't deserve all the hate they get, not even close. Too many people I've noticed only view TF as a bunch of toys and a 80s cartoon/film. They understanding of it as a franchise is limited to a detrimental degree. Yeah, many of the characters look different than their G1 counterparts, but Hasbro was pulling that long before 2007. There's a lot that can be said about this fandom, so I'll stop there.
Great video and I can't wait for the next review.

    • @Talon_Productions
      @Talon_Productions  2 года назад +6

It really is overblown, and I think that is true of all of the movies except for maybe TLK. They're not the best sure but they aren't the crimes against cinema that many make them out to be.
I understand those two issues, Prime's mouth doesn't bother me but I can understand while some don't like it or find it weird. How easily they get torn a part is definitely weird and that issue seems to get worse with the sequels.
I appreciate the kind words. While I have no problem talking about my issues with these movies, I try to be more positive because I do genuinely love them. Plus there is just so much hate on them, mostly find to be unjustifiable, so I want to add another perspective on the opinion of them. The movies are just another iteration and the fact that so many people want them, and every other version of the franchise it seems, to just be G1 again is crazy. I love how different a lot of versions of transformers used to be.

@@Talon_Productions Agreed. I miss when we could go from say the Unicron Trilogy to the Bayverse, while having Animated airing at the same time. I understand the desire for brand cohesion, but even as a kid, I liked the idea that Megatron consistently had these radically different designs. I just don't feel that much desire to experience everything that's coming out now. Fiction wise, I should make clear; I never was much of a TF toy guy.

This movie is, simply put, one of the Early-2010s Internet's most overhated and unfairly bashed movies, right up there with Spider-Man 3, the Star Wars Prequels and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. And it isn't worthy of that hatred at all.
People who hate on this hate it because 1. "It's not G1", and 2. "There's no substance", which is utterly stupid.
The movie wasn't trying to be based on a specific incarnation of these characters, but on the characters _themselves,_ serving as a new depiction a la the Unicron Trilogy and Animated which came out the same decade. And the whole "there's no substance" criticism is utterly preposterous because it's _okay for films to be nothing but escapism for escapism's sake._ And in that field, Transformers delivers on the escapist fun.
The effects are timeless, the action sequences are kinetic brilliance, the humour mostly works and the story is a fun, albeit flawed alien-conspiracy romp with likable characters and an earnest sense of awe to the proceedings which make it a cut above other intended crowd pleasers of the time.
Not only that, but in terms of "selling toys" (which is what Transformers media is all about), Transformers is successful; When you try to sell children a toyline, you have to sell the characters that the toys are built on. Children aren't buying toys, but rather _characters,_ ditto for adults who love these characters and want to show their love by owning them in a physical form, and the movie does well by portraying these robots in disguise with a respect and awe that the franchise after is still yet to match. In fact, though both movies are good, I'd dare say Transformers does a better job at selling Transformers toys than the earlier, more infamous The Transformers: The Movie, as TTFTM is all about killing off the old characters to make way for new ones whilst Transformers is a sci-fi action spectacle where the titular characters are intended to strike awe and wonder into moviegoers.

It definitely was, and in a lot of ways is, hated on way more than it deserves! I agree with the prequels and Pirates AWE but can't with Spider-Man 3. I absolutely despise that movie lmao.
I've always said the movies were based more so on the idea of the franchise, the concepts and certain characters and story beats, not anything specific. This film definitely delivers on the escapist stuff that you said, and I agree that it is fine for movies to be just that. Tbh I prefer it a lot of the time.

Also I've never noticed Ratchet trying to aim Ironhide's cannons into the Witwicky house, like bro I thought you were the medic...

For me it does beat the 1986 movie. Don't get me wrong, I love the '86 movie but I honestly feel its over-hyped and overblown. This movie did everything it needed to do and then some for the first ever live-action adaption.
Yeah, Ratchet being a psycho for a second is easy to miss and pretty crazy lmao

I want to tell you a story about how I discovered this movie so back in 2006 when I found my brother CD-ROM that came with the Armada Galvatron that we no longer have it was like a cool addition because the menu has like this robotic face that has like four icons you can click on there was paint where you can make your customized Transformer game which was basically a game where you had to defend Energon from the Decepticons and if you blow up the energon on you lose and then was the web when I clicked on that that was when I discovered Transformers 2007 and I saw the teaser trailer for it it was like a dream come true a live-action Transformers movie that sounds awesome then I remember some of the concept Arts coming out and the first time I ever saw Megatron was with a Lunchable and they had like those kind of weird looking I don't even remember what they were but it was cool to see what Megatron looked like before they redesign in which I say was a good call since the old design just looked scary and it just didn't work his head in the final product looks so much better anyways and I remembered not liking Starscream in that movie I just didn't like the way how he looked at first but after a while I really like his design for some reason ever since I became an adult if I were to make a list of what my favorite Transformers movies are in fact I'll do that right now I know it's generic but to those people who say don't make a list shut up
    Transformers (1986) 9/10
    Transformers (2007) 9/10
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen 7/10
Transformers Dark of the Moon 10/10
    Transformers age of Extinction 2/10
    Transformers The Last Knight 0/10
    Bumblebee 8/10
And before anyone gets mad at me for giving Bumblebee a low score to be honest I did not give it a low score I gave age of extinction a low score but here's the thing I like bumblebee I think it's a good movie but I don't like it as much as I like Dark of the Moon I just think dark of the moon just did a much better job other than that this is the end of my comment have a nice day and remember stay cool

@@Talon_Productions Transformers (2007) just feels very unique and cool and is not afraid to try anything new, meanwhile Bumblebee is only Praised because of the Cybertron scene (Tbh, I wasn’t really impressive by the scene and it's only used as a weapon against Bay’s design) plus the movie is filled with cliche and stuff.

It does, but this was a confirmed mistake that, for whatever reason, was never changed in the film itself. Brawl was the intended final name for the character and the one used on all of the toys, comics, games, etc.

I think people criticism regarding the films has to do with the fact people were expecting a on screen adaption of the characters they grew up with. Similar to how the marvel movies characters have accurate costumes to their comic book selves with a few exceptions. I have no problem with the character looking different but aleast maintain elements so I can tell who’s who otherwise I and people would be confuse. Also this mainstream audience first introduction to transformers so their may get the impression that transformers is this mindless action shlock when in reality in has a great cast, lore and mythology. transformers movie designs are garage their suppose to be more realistic alien complex design but instead look like junkyward pieces stitch together in fact it looks less advance then what came before. If anything the transformers should look like those jeagers from pacific rim.

    • @Talon_Productions
      @Talon_Productions  Год назад +6

To a point, I can understand some criticism coming from those expectations, but I feel like a lot of the trailers and promotional material made it very clear that this wasn't one of those type of adaptions. I personally have never understood the complaint with characters looking the same since they really don't, even ones that share a similar color. The movie designs aren't garbage, of course if you don't like them that's fine, but I think they perfectly how an advanced, mechanical, transforming race could look. All sorts of bits moving, rotating, etc. They truly seem like robotic beings that are alive! Not sure how you can say it looks "less advanced than what came before" when, at the very least, super boxy G1 designs exist.
