While narratively TLK is a total mess, I will say that the CGI and sound design are still top notch and this movie is one of the best looking and sounding films that I own on 4K Blu Ray. Put simply, the film is purely eye and ear candy. Loved the review man, keep it up!
I was really hoping I would never have to watch another TLK video especially knowing how hyped I got during all the trailers thinking it would’ve been better than DOTM ☹️☹️☹️ what makes it worse is that they won’t properly finish Bayverse which now forces me to pretend AOE and TLK are non canon to the first 3 films which if you think about it thats definitely how it feels DOTM was the final chapter but the last two can be seen as random spin offs that don’t matter that much
Yeah I was so disappointed because the trailers got me SO hyped for this movie! Really sucks that it didn't turn out well and that now we'll never get a true ending. Plus I hate that it ignored so much of AOE's set up.
@@Talon_Productions agreed 100% I honestly don’t know how a movie can just ignore the last movie entirely unless it’s a prequel only in TLK’s case it’s a sequel which is really dumb but that’s how I formed my “reboot starting early” theory but it sounds far fetched especially when you take the Rise of the Beasts rumors into consideration
Yeah its nuts how it ignores basically everything. While I like AOE a lot, I don't blame anyone for ignoring the last two and seeing DOTM as the end.

I don't blame you. There are things that I like and can enjoy but there's just too much of it that doesn't make sense and contradicts things in other movies.

That's totally fair! I actually dig a lot of the ideas and concepts introduced here but the execution just isn't there.
I would watch rise over TLK any day. Not saying it's good, but TLK is barely even a movie to me, with so much going on and yet barely any story at all.
I kinda agree. Rise is much more of a watchable movie than TLK, at least to me, but some of the issues in that movie are more problematic to me than anything in TLK.
Cogman might be the best robot in any movie. His humor is so funny, he’s a bad ass. strong as hell for his size. Just a savage! 😂😂😂
Love Cogman! One of the best parts of TLK for me.

6:03 bottom left corner of the frame, they never animated the motion-caption actor for Cogman. Saw that while scrubbing through the movie and complaining about it to me fiancé

@@Talon_Productions I've got an eagle eye with these movies, I was obsessed until TLK came out and ruined everything (story wise). Like when they're working on Bee's voicebox, his head is a physical prop and the rest of the body isn't there, no CGI no nothing. I could list a ton more, but it'd probably do better as a youtube video tbh
Great video I completely agree with you on everything on this video. I also have a love hate relationship with TLK and it upsets me that this movie basically retcons the IDW Bayverse movie comics because the Bayverse comics are so good and this movie is just like here’s a room with bunch stuff we literally threw at a board. But yeah I don’t hate this movie it’s just not good. Can’t wait for your ROTF video when should that be out?
God those comics are SO good! I'd love to do videos on those one day. Those did so much for the story and honestly if you take all of the comics and the first 3 movies they make a solid story and universe. ROTF will be my next movie review, I haven't started on it so we'll see how long it takes. It sucks that it's taken this long, I want to get it done ASAP but I want to make sure I do it right.

I gotta say buddy, watching this video was way better than watching the movie. Your sigh at the beginning says it all haha! Just the section where you describe the plot as best you can makes my head hurt. Shit just....happens, as if they were making it up as they went along. The story fails on so many levels, but as you mention, the worst thing the movie did was how it retconned, threw out and straight up shitted on the ones before it. From small things to large things. AoE could have been vastly IMPROVED by adding another entry that fully explored the mysteries and new storylines that were set up in that film, which were actually very intriguing. However it didn't do anything at all with the story except make up new stuff that wasn't connected at all, or connected in a way that messed up what came before. Egregious. Great video though :D and hey! At least we have gotten some cool toys from this dumpster fire. I do still hope for some sort of conclusion to this story at some point. Hell even grab the characters for a multiverse of transformery madness! Or a comic, as you mentioned.
Lmao thank you! Yeah AOE had good, maybe even great, set ups and potential for a great follow up, but they just abandoned everything. Its absolutely crazy to me. Some sort of conclusion would be nice one day.
I'm curious, why don't you like Cade? He's my favorite human companion in the Bayverse. Because he actually fights back with the autobots
Oh I do like Cade! I'm just kinda iffy on him here in this movie, but I do enjoy him. I've always liked how he joins in on the action, especially in AOE.
The Hot Rod hot takeeeee. That is a very VERY bold statement to make in the Transformers community but honestly I agree with you. G1 Hot Rod ain’t it

@@Talon_Productions I’m glad to see someone else who isn’t scared to voice their opinion in the TF community. A lot of the times when someone has a critique about G1 they’re scared to get absolutely annihilated by 40-50 year old man babies. Not saying all G1 fans are man babies, but the ones who can’t take a piece of criticism.
God damn i hate this movie as a bayformer fan. What a waste. AOE started off on a crazy note for a potential new transformers trilogy. It's like all the lessons that Bay learned from making the past 4 films was thrown out of the window, destroying the lore of the franchise, bringing back every type of cringe humour and making sure that the film doesnt even FEEL as much as epic as a blockbuster like the last 4 films. Such a shame, such an unfortunate waste. The only thing good from that movie was some of the cinematography shots i guess.
However at the same time im kinda glad it sucked cuz the new transformers movie ideas that would have been made after the success of that film were all trash
I don't hate it but I definitely can't really disagree with anything you said. You can really tell that Bay just didn't care with this one.

I usally thought the WW2 Hot Rod and Bee scene was cool tho.
I mean, I know it's confusing but I always wanted to see what Transformers looked like in cool War Vehicles imo like the ones in ToyWorld.

Its dumb, but it's a kind of dumb that I like. Just wish that it was a bit expanded on instead of being introduced and being borderline dropped afterwards like most things in this movie.
TF5 isn’t my favorite but, to me the film could’ve just been about Optimus, The Autobots, Cade and Izzy running from TRF. I’ll watch that than a Knight Movie low key. Me and my cousins do this joke like “There was a Transformers 5?”😅
It definitely could have been, but honestly I feel like it would have been retreading Age of Extinction in that regard since a lot of that movie was escaping from Cemetery Wind and Lockdown. It isn't a bad idea though!
I actually don’t think this movie get ENOUGH hate, it seems like they thought they could throw a bunch of money at a wall with some transformers on it and fans would accept it because “action” “Optimus evil” “dragon transformer” etc, it’s an insult to fans and it’s a cinematic travesty. Yes I’m big mad 😡

“Oh I’m English and I don’t talk about my feelings”. Jimmy was a terrible character. Nothing he said was ever serious. All jokes! Not good. I feel like the studio chopped this movie into pieces and tried to put out some bs
Jimmy is meant to be comedic relief so it makes sense that he is all jokes, not everything lands but he worked for me. Whether it was the studio, the producers, or bay himself, something definitely is off with the editing in this.

For Rise of the Beasts? I am! I think it will turn out good, probably not anything amazing but I'm sure that I'll enjoy it, I've liked what I've seen of it so far.

The robot designs in this movie are really cool especially barricade and hot rod, but the robots themselves aren’t in this movie nearly as much. Instead of a decent fight with bumblebee and barricade we have to watch human scenes :/
It may seem polarizing, and this is is a HOOOOOT take, but....The Last Knight is actually my favorite of the Transformers films. Everything from the incorporation of the mythologies mixing with human history, the revelation that Earth is Unicron, everything about Edmond Burton, the return of Megatron, and Simmons, a Hot Rod that DOESN'T cause the death of Optimus, Optimus being brainwashed into Nemesis Prime, and fighting Bumblebee, the unmistakable Steve Jablonsky score, and the final battle against Megatron and Quintessa is just awesome in my opinion. Yes, this movie did considerably worse financially at the box office, and critically is the most hated film of the franchise, but to this day it is my favorite out of all the other films, even after seeing Rise of the Beasts. I just hate that we'll never get a proper conclusion to this story.
I admit The Last Knight wasn't perfect but imo it's Hot Rod was my favorite since his French accent made me laugh alot XD
And the Guardian Knights looked cool too.
Hot Rod is cool in the movie, I'm convinced that people don't like him just because he isn't G1 enough. The Guardian Knights are also super cool!
This movie honestly disappointed me big time I was soooo looking forward to this movie, and there are just a lot wrong with it, Quintessa wasn’t a memorable villain as she only appear a small amount of screen time, NEMESIS PRIME WAS TOTALLY A WASTE OF A CHARACTER AS HE APPEARED FROM BEGINNING TO THE FINAL BATTLE, THEY ONCE AGAIN RETCON HOW LONG THE TRANSFORMERS HAVE BEEN ON EARTH THING, BUMBLEBEES VOICE APPEARING AGAIN BUT OPTIMUS LITERALLY HEARD HIS VOICE FROM THE 2007 FILM!!!! ALSO NO SIGN OF GALVATRON AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MEGATRON IS HERE AGAIN!!!! Now don’t get me wrong the only 2 thing that this movie didn’t fail at was the CGI, the CGI IS STILL IMPRESSIVE, AND PETER CULLEN AND FRANK WELKER RETURNED AS OPTIMUS PRIME AND MEGATRON!!!!!

Bumblebees voice was really dumb just maybe in the first transformers that wasn’t bumblebees actual voice that’s why he doesn’t use it

Paramount ordered Bay cut 40 MINUTES from the film. I would genuinely not be surprised if, continuity aside, all the major issues with the film would be fixed with those 40 minutes added back in.

Wow, I never thought I could ever get to a point where I dislike this movie more than I ever did but damn, this video drove the nail into that feeling further. I appreciate this video greatly, and for the bit of knowledge you shared in it that I never even knew about with it. This will easily always remain my lowest of the low in all the transformers movies probably for the foreseeable future. Great video and great review/retrospective!
Lmao thank you, I appreciate the ind words! I have actually grown to like TLK a bit more since making this video. I still don't really lie it and it is easily the weakest movie of the series, but I don't dislike it as much. Plenty of stuff still annoys me though!
I do think its the worst but I think I prefer it over AOE, though that could just be because of dragonstorm.
I hated aoe but then someone did a fan edit and now I quite like it. They cut out over 20 minutes and reordered some scenes so it's much more watchable.
I like AOE as is, but some of the fan edits I've seen do definitely help!
@@RingoLoadagain to me the film didnt need that. Just delete the romeo and juliet law scene and boom. Rotf needed the edits more with getting rid of the dumb disgusting moments it has
@@ilikepigeons6101 AoE had some of the most eggregious product placement and pandering to chinese audienced that I've seen in any movie ever. I enjoy the film much more without those elements, but I'm glad you enjoy the film mostly as-is.
I've seen a theory about how Bumblebee got his voice back. It states that when he was getting slammed around by Nemesis Prime it jumpstarted his voice box
Interesting, but I'm not sure its the case since we see that Bee needs a new one when Cade tries putting in a new voice box.

As for all of that stuff in 'TF 5: TLK' about Autobots and Decepticons from the prior 4 films having been on Earth in the 1940s and beforehand, it could easily be established that Edmund Burton made it all up & fabricated those related objects seen in that room in his mansion out of boredom, but due to his old age, he ended up believing that it was all true and Cogman didn't correct Edmund, because he found it amusing. Also, it's worth mentioning that in 'TF 5: TLK', when Edmund said that he knew Bumblebee when he was a kid, Bumblebee had no idea what he was talking about, and when Cade Yeager tried to encourage 'Bee by mentioning 'Bee's supposed days as "ZB-7" during World War 2, 'Bee seemed to have no idea what he was talking about.
The people who claim that 'Bumblebee' and 'TF: ROTB' aren't prequels to 'Transformers'[2007] lack imagination, and somehow fail to either realize or remember that 'Bumblebee' was made with the intention of it being a prequel to 'Transformers'[2007]! They even used Bobby Bolivia's speech about cars & their owners in the 1st trailer for 'Bumblebee'! If all of that wasn't enough, the motion comic short film 'Sector 7 Adventures: Battle At Half Dome' absolutely solidifies the fact that 'Bumblebee' is a prequel to 'Transformers'[2007]! Surely by the end of the sequel to 'TF: ROTB', the Autobots(except for Bumblebee, of course) are somehow gonna leave Earth. Either the creative team has simply de-canonized 'TF 5: TLK' or there's going to be a time travel explanation for why Unicron wasn't the Earth's core in 'TF: ROTB'. Maybe after 'TF: ROTB', Unicron wound up getting sucked into a black hole that sent him billions of years into the past, and then, the Earth wound up being formed around him.
I like the theory of Burton being crazy and everything being faked to fuel his insanity. My only issue there is that, for better or worse, the movie presents everything that he says and has as fact, so we're having to do some mental gymnastics to make it all work. I subscribe to this theory, but its a lot to ask someone to think about. I also think that Bumblebee just didn't recognize him since Burton was a kid, because later on Cade says "Remember ZB-7? You gotta be that Autobot again." and Bumblebee acknowledged it, so the WW2 stuff happened for better or worse.
I also don't think that people who say that Bumblebee and ROTB aren't lack imagination, it just makes more sense for them to not be prequels. There is just too much stuff that absolutely does not line up and requires major mental gymnastics to make everything work. Bumblebee did indeed start production as a prequel, but that was changed after TLK came out. That motion comic doesn't really mean much, the movies never really paid much attention to that kind of stuff, which definitely sucks since IDW's movie comics are so good and really help tie everything in well.
@@Talon_Productions My theory wasn't that Edmund's crazy, but that he's having memory problems due to his age. I also said that the objects in that room in his mansion were fabricated. 'Bumblebee' and 'TF: ROTB' only conflict with 'TF 5: TLK'.
I was kinda inserting the theory that I heard, which is basically the same thing as what you're saying but its that hes just crazy instead of just being old. I think both could definitely contribute, but him being crazy seems more likely to me due to it being commented on several times, even by Burton himself. I never said that you didn't say the objects were fabricated, in fact I was agreeing that that could be the case by saying "everything being faked".
Those movies also contradict TF1. In Optimus Prime's opening monologue, Earth is referred to as an "unknown planet" in 2007, which would not be the case if he was there starting in 1987 with many other Autobots as it would be very well known then.
