Picked up a Wolverine 1 in a random bin at a record shop this week. Not bagged and boarded. Absolutely amazing condition. 99 cents. Blew my mind. Keep on hunting!
You should do an update to this video. It’s crazy how the prices have dropped on some of those books. Inhumans 200 or less for CHC 9.8 now. Crazy times.
These sales and increases are just insane. Buy books because you enjoy the books, not as an investment. A book's teal value is in the content. My comic book collection will always be valuable to me, regardless of the market.
I made peace along time ago once I saw that it be nigh on impossible to get certain books let alone 9.8s at the prices people ask for. It’s why I always tell friends and people who ask about getting into the collecting of comics “ if you can get an 4.0 or even a 9.0 on certain key issues that are 40 years old or more, and didn’t go bankrupt doing it…… be happy” it’s in “your collection”
Jumped on the SIKTC train. With it being optioned for a netflix show, Tynion's track record, plus low print run for a modern I understand the price in this market. In a recent newsletter, Tynion said SIKTC is not close to halfway done. So if the comic can maintain its quality and the show does well the prices are comparable to the Walking Dead prices. Lots of ifs early on though.
Wolverine #1 is 33 years old, is a key for arguably the 2nd most popular Marvel character (behind Spidey), and the other keys like 180, 181, 182, and limited #1 were spiking, so people wanted to get in with this. I haven't spent money on this book since 1996, but that's my thought as to why the prices you listed.
I can no longer afford to chase after books after they launched into the stratosphere. I just make peace with my collection and move on to the next affordable book. If I’m lucky, I’ll by it on the dip.
That is why I WILL NOT collect graded books. That’s the biggest scam and now problem that comic book collectors have EVER had to deal with in the history of the hobby! That’s made some collectors look down on NEAR MINT CONDITION BOOKS! That “eww it’s a 9.6 not a 9.8” attitude didn’t come around until about ‘07 or so and ever since then, it’s been CRAZY and AWFUL for collectors who are looking for back issues, especially keys! No one can tell me that they can tell the difference between a 9.4 and a 9.8 with their naked eye and the fact that CGC made a big difference between them and made it like the standard, prices have just had extra hundreds of dollars tacked onto them FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER! I tell the story about how just recently a person paid 200 bucks plus for a GI JOE 32 that was 9.8. Years ago no one even knew ANYTHING ABOUT gi Joe 32 let alone pay 200 bucks for it! It’s Zartans first appearance and only in the last few months has that book even gotten recognition, let alone sales, but right out the gate people are dropping 200 bucks for a book that is not a proven commodity nor will this book retain or even see that kind of price again! Still, there’s fools out here who will do whatever comic Tom tells them to do by watching his “hot” list and the market is being artificially driven but deconstructed slowly and when that bubble bursts, the resultant fallout is gonna be bad! People are not going to keep buying and the people who purchased these books are going to be mad that they are now stuck with a 30 dollar book that you went and paid 500 bucks for a year or so back. I just keep collecting “raw” books and even then I don’t like the prices that some people have attached to them either thanks to this CGC stuff ruining the marketplace.
Why not just start buying the comics that will be keys for tomorrow instead? They’re out there. You can enjoy them now, and they’ll be worth some coin in the future.
I told a co worker of mine I picked up a spawn #1 and #300 both in 9.6 as a package deal. When I told him what I paid he said I overpaid(he’s a huge Spawn fan and has both in 9.8). Then I mentioned Todd signed them and he said I underpaid.🙂
I’m kinda not surprised they’re all 9.8’s You should do a 9.2 - 9.6 list for the rest of us midline collectors that are not so lucky to have recieved the coveted top grade
@@MintHunterComics Yeah, and it might just be my luck, but 3-4 CGC 9.6's that cost/are worth the same at purchase time as 1 CGC 9.8 often become later more valuable than the single CGC 9.8. So, if you buy 3-4 CGC 9.6 and sell these when that CGC 9.8 is at it's peak, you'll get more money back, _often_ The money you put in 3-4 CGC 9.6's comes back in a greater value than the one CGC 9.8 at the same cost. If you pay $1,000 for 4+ CGC 9.6 and $1,000 for 1 CGC 9.8, when the CGC 9.8 is worth $10,000, the 4+ CGC 9.6 are worth $12,000, and often the CGC 9.8 would be cheaper than the sum used here, so then the CGC 9.6's would be worth more. And even this: if the same amount of money spent on _multiple_ CGC 9.6's become worth more than the same amount spent on 1 CGC 9.8 when that CGC 9.8 is at it's peak. There's many ways to say the same thing, I'm just making sure all who read this understand why I am claiming/experience monthly. It's all about logistics and how large a warehouse you have to store these future moneymakers. This isn't(it can't be?) set in stone, but it has worked for me last 5 years when I realized this. I save those CGC 9.6 to sell later, but it does take time for their value to increase. If it's a modern book(I mean from 2000-2021), everything below a CGC 9.6 is "trash to me".
Don’t let this grading crap fool you! It’s a racket and a way to bilk extra money out of people. Stop falling for the okey doke. In “raw” condition no one can tell a 9.6 from a 9.8 and it has gotten so bad that collectors (like you guys apparently) LOOK DOWN ON NEAR MINT CONDITION BOOKS! What kinda nonsense is that? A .2 in either direction is not enough to make me wanna give you extra hundreds of thousands of dollars more. That’s just dumb. CGC has TOTALLY RUINED the hobby as a whole. Period. They made it up (grading that is) for sports cards and then people got hip and then greedy (as is par for the course, greed always destroys anything that brings in money no matter WHAT it is!) and just started grading everything: coins, stamps, toys, video games (which is ANOTHER area in which they just went TOTALLY DAMN INSANE with and prices on some of those games are tens of thousands of dollars just because it’s “graded”. WTF are you grading on a video game that’s in the box and shrink wrapped? You don’t know if the game is broken or missing instructions or whatever because you can’t even open the damn box! Total scam!) and it just became an over used passé thing and it has made people more like stock brokers than comic collectors. There are SO MANY assholes who buy graded books only and don’t know ANYTHING ABOUT COMICS except that they are worth money. That’s what has killed our hobby. The people who aren’t doing both, enjoying their books and selling when they are ready, but it’s these people who need the “blue chip” books (and that’s proof that they are outsiders to comics because in all my years of collecting, I never ever heard “blue chip books” until grading came on the scene and brought these outsiders into the realm of comics) and pay astronomical prices as well as charge astronomical prices for their graded books. It’s the “too much money and nothing to do” crowd that has fostered this environment and made nonsense of the back issue market. I just saw the first appearance of the dinobots (transformers #8) going for 350 bucks! What? Since when does this (a perennial dollar book if I ever saw one) book command the same price as a first appearance of Harley Quinn or Deadpool? Do you see JUST HOW RIDICULOUS the market has become? People are paying more for this book, more for the first appearance of dinobots than they are for the first lobo and gunslinger spawn. That’s a backwards market and it’s because the die hard collectors who love comics and will still be here after this idiotic bubble bursts, are priced out of the books they want or have been aspiring to get because greedy people who are using these books as stocks basically have pumped prices up to high using artificial means. That’s a problem and grading caused this WHOLE situation. When grading was newer and in its first five or ten years, it was for older books that you wanted to preserve and collectors sent in their key back issues to get them slabbed. There was a time that you could NOT send modern stuff to them whenever you wanted and they set a certain time aside to grade newer books as older ones took preference over new books. Now people send in any damn thing and they are just slab crazy and that has totally put collecting on life support. Unless you have extra thousands to spend on comics, you can’t get a good three or four key back issues at a convention anymore. That’s a damn shame. We now have collectors thinking that anything under 9.8 is unworthy somehow and there’s people who call 9.0 and 9.2 books “mid grade”. That’s unbelievable and that’s exclusive to NOW. That didn’t happen in 1993, 96, 2001, 2007, 2013, 2015, however in the last 6 years or less the shift in perspective has made collectors not only unreasonable but highly unrealistic. Most comics don’t live in the 9-10 point range yet that’s all collectors want. You have 90 percent of collectors going after the top 5 percent of books. If this continues, comic books will just collapse in upon themselves and destroy the hobby permanently.
@@ludotoyhunter8492 , I completely agree. I will also add I saw the collapse of the comic book market in the 90's when everyone was buying 5 to 10 copies of books thinking they were all going to turn into 1st superman or batman values. The print rate was insane. I was an actual reader not so much a collector. But I did take care of my books after I read them, bagged, boarded, and put them in a storage box. I remember some folks trying to sell me books at insane prices since they knew I read comics. And I gave them a resounding "NO". Those books are not worth anything, there's a ton of them out there and they will never be worth anything. I had to give it up as life got in the way...I still have comics I never even opened (subscription service with Mile High Comics) as far as ten years back at the very least.
After the great price adjustment of 2021 I a huge Wolverine fan will say a 9.8 of first Patch is $400 MAX 225-345 is a good normal range. As for white Vision I totally agree why everyone didn't buy it when he lost color in Infinity war baffles me.
Other than very early grail comics, no prices on comics right now are justified IMO. HUGE spec bubble. It'll pop eventually. Especially if the economy keeps going the way it is.
Great points. And speaking of the market, (if you’d like to do a video on this topic) do you think books with signatures make a dent in sales data/price increases? For example, let’s say a non key, movie adaptation comic, not signed, graded at a 9.8 VS the same issue, but signed, also graded at a 9.8. Same goes for key/non key books, graded, VS their signed counterparts?
Do silver age comics have a different grading criteria than a modern comic 50 year old book versus a book just printed that you can get 9.8 all day long
A lot of these have TV/movie hype behind them. Missed out on ASM 252, but I was able to get a Secret Wars 9.8 before it blew up. Also got a 9.8 Kanan 1 variant for $35. I only bought because I really liked the cartoon.
I really enjoyed this episode. Also are u the voice in the my slabs commercial? I think I have heard you on the sportsman channel too! Keep up the good work.
I just got back into comics 2 years ago, I forgot how much fun it is! I feel that 90% of these books people are just chasing green candles and just like stocks, whatever will rise will most definitely fall. With an overwhelming influx of people submitting books to CGC there will be an outrageous amount of all these books graded lol with people just stuck with really awesome comic books trapped in cheap plastic worth nowhere near what they paid for them...I could be wrong but what you think? Also I think you've got the best show on here bro love watching!
I feel you. For me it is pretty dumb to seal a comic book in a plastic case, unless it is a HOLY GRAIL of comics. I like to read my comics and put them back into their bags.
@@Red-Devil884 I agree with you RedDevil. It really ticks me off to see encapsulated comics that have no significance whatsoever. Only Holy Grails should be graded.
@@jinryujr33 yeah, but to each their own i guess 🤷🏼♂️ I had a first Gambit on a slab for maybe 4 years (it was a gift) and finally last year i REALLY wanted to read it and feel it on my hands, and i said fuck it! Cracked open that slab and enjoyed it a lot!
Hi I recently got a lot of comics for really cheap I got the third apperance of carnage and a lot of other things but I got batman 384 I know it is a key but I cant find why so could you tell me why it is a key if it is and what it is worth mid to high grade
Other info this guy had Spider-Man 300 and a lot of Spider-Man 1-100 and comics from the 50s the would be like a 9.0 maybe 9.2 oh btw I got the third apperance of carnage for 50 cent's same with batman 384 and silver surfer 1 for 1 dollar and much more I got 52 comics for 20 dollars and so more like captain America and the falcon 153 which has a cover that is making it worth alot
It was in August of this past year that Heritage Auctions was accused of shill bidding practices. They deny it on their end but the possibility of July sales being so high could be a result of that.
The article I found on Heritage was about a game, but it is a practice used on eBay as well. I think that during the frenzy of buying there may have been some individuals that put in bids just to bump up the price hoping that the bidder would continue to raise their bid on a "must have". July would have been right in the middle of Disney spec news as well. I missed on SIKTC. Wasn't a must have for me but I would give it a go in TPB form.
10:52 I think people are buying the wrong key. You can get the first appearance of her father(Ullysses Bloodstone) for around the $500 mark, and that's for a 9.8. If you want to get a 9.6 or lower, they can be had for around $200. Keep in mind, this book is 26 years older, a lot rarer, AND it's actually cheaper. If they're going to do anything with Elsa, they'll pretty much have to use Ulysses eventually, since it all started with him. I hoard that book(Marvel Presents 1 1975) whenever I see it in the wild.
I sort of disagree with SheHulk, the character wasn’t really collected until rumours of a tv show or movie appearances. Even her own series covers showed this.
Personally I'm not in it for the money, i just collect comics for the artwork and covers. Love of the game kinda thing. That being said I can't be mad that some of these books are worth a small fortune now that I have multiple copies of, however it is ridiculous the prices we pay to get them graded and the amount of time we have to wait to get them back.
I'm very surprised king spawn and gunslinger spawn didn't get honorably mentions, considering the prices they launched with. Killer video and new subscriber here. Keep up the killer work. Loved the video.
for Kanan #1, it's going to really rise in the next 2-3 years because the rumours are Sabine (who was recently cast for live action) and Ezra will appear in the Disney plus Ashoka show. I think once that drops this book will go to $1000+ and never do back down.
Interesting video, just to see what in the list that I own (a few). I wonder about the increase in price for Alpha Flight #1. It’s gone from $4 to about $400 in the last few years.
Ya I kinda feel the same way, many books have actually taken a huge hit and gone down in value because the TV show or the movie sucked (I'm looking at you, Disney 👀). Right now I'm looking at books that aren't popular right now that I like, and honestly just buying what like in general 👍🏼 I feel that lower grades of books can be the best of both worlds, you're still getting the book, maybe in not the greatest shape, but if you like the book, it's in your collection, who cares? And if it goes up it should be proportional to its value 👍🏼
I have a few of these in standard bags/backing in my old white longboxes that haven't been touched in a long time. Sounds like I need to fish them out and get them graded.
I can explain the Wolverine 1 for you. Wolverine is actually one of the most popular characters in comics therefore the demand for his books are high. This particular book is the 1st issue in his first ongoing series similar to what Punisher's first ongoing series is doing now. You can compare that to the book you said was somewhat justified which was Vengeance 1. That has the first appearance of a character that barely anyone knows and was mostly rejected when her book came out. That book goes for over 1k.
Mind if I ask what site you use for values, tracking, and analysis? I had been using GC and they kept telling me they would be fixing the upgrade issues...still not fixed since October.
One I think is justified is Star Wars Clone Wars #1, the first appearance of Ahsoka Tano. CGC 9.8 in Oct 2019 went for $250 but is now FMV of $2525 with a high sale of $4200 in July, a jump of 1580%. One I don't get is Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic #9 (current FMV of $1077), the first appearance of Revan. CGC 9.8 in May of 2020 was an $85 book but a year later sold for $1799, a 2019% increase??? Both books are from the late 2000's, but Ahsoka was in the hugely successful and immensely popular Clone Wars animated series, then the well done Rebel series and is now in the live action Mandalorian with her own series coming next year. Revan is a barely canon character from a video game. And don't forget to look at the rare variant for Clone Wars #1. $370 to $16,000 for a 4224% increase. Not sure who bought that 16K book. Yikes. Ahsoka isn't going to lose her popularity any time soon and eventually show up in a live action movie someday so I am on the hunt for some lower grade copies of the Cover A Clone Wars #1 as the 9.8's are out of my league.
Crazy, I saw a raw spawn 1 that was like probably vf+ go for like 120 on whatnot the other night people get mad excited in these auctions. Love the content.
Thanks for another great video. I prefer to buy a 9.6 graded book, not 9.8s. That’s an NM+ and the cost/quality ratio is usually much better. Or I’ll buy raw and send them in. Most of my 9.8s were things I submitted.
Great video Man, love the info & content! I wish I had seen this a couple of years ago as I recently got back into collecting and blew a wad of cash. I don't have anything listed on your post but I gotta tell you about a win I did have. Managed to pick up a beautiful raw mint copy of ultimate fallout #4 which is currently being graded at cgc for $350! I have lived & learned over the last 3 years and henceforth only collect 1st appearances.
You said it perfectly. I bought alot of these when they came out. Had them pressed and graded only because i saw the insane sales. I would never buy any of them at FMV now.
I recently picked up a CGC graded 9.8 NYX #3 for $1,800.00 . I gave up a long time ago for ever owning one, but had the opportunity finally, I'm just curious what you think about that, by the way I don't get insulted by others opinions. great vid though
I have a theory that there are uber-rich just snatching up 9.8s without caring how much they cost just to avoid bidding on auctions. I also thinking people are trying to create runs of CGC 9.8s because even dollar bin issues that are graded 9.8 will go for top dollar.
@@MintHunterComics There's no better way to _clean money_ than invest in comic books, if you know what I mean. The mob has been invested in comic book collecting for decades, there would be no Mile High Comics if those mobsters didn't stash away 1.5-2million comic books meant for shredding. Also, I'd say 50% of new slab buyers have money but are clueless and one day they will go away.
I'm kicking myself for not paying the $475 for Batman 423 back in 2018. Its my favorite Batman Cover of all time but I didn't think it would go for over $2500+ now.
Really good video James! Thanks for putting it together! SIKTC #1 is probably the most ridiculous of your list. As you mentioned, there are a bazillion 9.8 copies floating around out there. I bought this book last summer (2020) which might have been the last bastion of reasonableness. The price differences even back then were crazy online and with LCS'. Ended up buying mine from a seller in the Midwest.
The one that confuses me the most is that 1st app of Silk. I was going through and wanting to collect all her solo runs and appearances and when I came across this I was absolutely dumbfounded
Silk is optioned for her own live-action TV show. Once that drops you should be able to pick it up for less…I hope? Raw copies can be bought for around $100-150.
You forgot to mention the newsstand variants of a few that could have put it all in a new perspective! All in all very legitimate production though! Thumbs up !
I think so too - even though I think the price is ridiculous and I don't think it's as warranted as UF4 it doesn't seem to be going away, nor should it as it's a great character!
Agreed with Wolverine #1. I remember this comic was so easy to find in the 90's, and not very expensive for any collector to get a hold of, the 1982 #1 is more iconic.
I really don't understand the speculation based on the Marvel movies. Many of these books were printed in the high tens and hundreds of thousands, so not rare in any way.
Watching these vids about comic spec, sales figures, fair market value BS is more entertaining than the books themselves. I have been a collector since the early 80s. I dont understand the current mentality of any of this. It is really fascinating to me. Does this reflect how much disposable income people really have? Are many buyers going in debt buying stuff they hope will make them rich with minimal effort?
I think it's indicative of the amount of money people had to spend this past summer - a lot of younger folks experienced large amounts of money for the very first time and just went haywire with it!
@@MintHunterComics That being said its seems from Comic Toms show people are still dishing out crazy amounts of money for books in every era, mainly based on Disney's output. I had sold some books on ebay to make room for more purchases before prices went nuts. Now I think I'll keep my eye on the X men market, if it keeps rending the way it does some privileged deep pocketed person can take my run off my hands and I'll pay off my house! Ha!
I've always thought that a bar code on the front cover of a comic book ruins the overall artwork. In my vast collection of single issues I do not Have even one that has a bar code
@@junkdrunk3160 Disney has been pushing female heroes heavily…I would say “likely,” but I am not investing in this character or IP. I think Ahsoka Tano is a better investment than Aphra.
@@junkdrunk3160 I dunno. I wouldn’t advise you to take investment advice from RUclips comments. I’m not qualified to be that for anyone. However, I usually spec on heroes more than villains. That’s a general good practice. But if you believe Thrawn is likely to show, and you have enough evidence it will spike or grow, then you may have a good investment. Gather your data and make a decision, make sure the reward is worth the risk.
Good idea for a video! I also agree with essentially all you said about the justification. Couple of notes:I know that ASM 4 (Silk) broke $1k on a 9.9, but I had no idea it went $1k+ on a 9.8. I don't see that sale reflected in CovrPrice but I'm sure they can't catch everything. Also, that Iron Man 282 *might* have been a newsstand version, which to my knowledge can break $1k but the direct edition is well under that.
A *CGC 9.9* is another story. I do sorta feel all and any Marvel books that are a *CGC 9.9* are worth $1,000+ One of my secondary side-quest slabbed collections is buying all CGC 9.9's that are not too expensive as well as CGC 10.0's; just for speculation. Can you imagine if in 5 years time a Giant-Size X-Men #1 showed up in a CGC 9.9 or CGC 10.0!?! It would be worth $350,000-$500,000 in a CGC 9.9 and $1,000,000 in a CGC 10.0.
More on Batman # 423 $ 2000 Justified This book will keep rising ( my opinion) Question: I have another 9.4 newstand Newsstand vs. direct edition . Is there a difference. Both are 1st prints
Newsstands can POSSIBLY grab a higher selling price because there are fewer high grade copies in circulation. Most of those were sold on streetcorner newsstands, airport bookstores, grocery stores, etc. They were picked up, flipped through, reshuffled and jammed between other magazines. The overall population of high grade newsstands is much lower than Direct Sales because people who buy comics at comic shops, generally, took great care of their comics before they came off the shelves. Does that make sense? If not, let me know, and I can try and clarify.
Recent Something is Killing the children books are high print run, but the first 6 to 8 issues or so are not highly printed, hence the high cost and demand. Justified!!!!
There are close to 1,500 cgc 9.8s. That's not counting 9.6s or anything from CBCS. The book is not even two years old and each one of those goes for close to $1,500? I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense! If this was 2019 that book would be like $199.99 lol 😆
In my opinion there are a lot of armchair speculators and maybe novice collectors who listen to them. I haven't followed Marvel much but I don't think Spider-Girl and Young Avengers have had any recent exposure to justify the price jump. As for SIKTC, I did not jump on the bandwagon and have opted to read the trades. Maybe it's me but I don't see the big fuss.
Young Avengers has had a ton of exposure since the spring, as most of the core Young Avengers characters were introduced in the different Marvel TV shows that have premiered this year. Add to that the speculation and almost certain likelihood of Disney sowing the seeds for a Young Avengers series, and the price jump makes sense. Unlike Spider-Girl, Young Avengers actually has something of substance driving the prices up. YA 1 has the potential to continually grow, and grow a lot. I'm with James in that YA 1 could be a huge book some years from now.
SONY has talked a lot of expanding the Spider-Man Universe, pre-pandemic there were 6 non-Spider-Man villain movies planned, and a Spider-Gwen and a Spider-Woman.
Young Avengers #1 is worth having. I also opted for SIKTC trades, and I enjoy the first story arc…read them all in one night. I did buy that sweet slip cover omni too.
Almost had a heart attack when I saw Vengeance of Bane #1 XD. That's on my ISO right now. Thankfully, the comic has cooled off a great deal and is much more affordable. I think that DC is going to have a highly speculative market due to HBO shows and upcoming film projects that have been rumored.
Tons of speculation, magnified by the fact that we have better market information now. With all the slabbing going though, the market going into the future is not looking great for modern books, maybe only as decorative pieces.
I still hate that ASM #4 - first appearance of Silk. You see her in all three of the previous issues, plus they kind've show her whole origin in those issues IIRC.
One question that I have is how you factor in ungraded books in the wild. For comparison, Young Avengers 1 and Savage She-Hulk 1 are trading at roughly the same price. For She-Hulk, there are 2400 9.8 and 2800 9.6. For YA, there are 1500 9.8 and 900 9.6. I understand that there were far more comics being printed in 1980 than in 2005, but I don't believe for a moment that there are more She-Hulks in perfect condition than there are YA. In 1980, if you had a subscription, it was mailed to you in a soft brown envelope that offered little to no protection, without cardboard, and hoped the mail carrier was nice to it. On the other hand, since the turn of the century, books are much, much better taken care of. I think there's a lot of 9.8 and 9.6 YA copies sitting in beautiful condition, sitting in Mylar bags with Half-Back boards, with collectors who will rush to grade them when an official MCU project is announced. The 6+ month current CGC delays don't make grading appealing right now, either. So if you're a collector, how do you factor in the graded supply when the real supply could be much different? Is it just WAG or is there some methodology to it?
I don’t know the answer to that. What I do know is I currently have 2 x copies of 9.8 WHITE PGS Savage She-Hulk #1 and 0 Young Avengers #1. Both are worth having.
True story, between me and 2 of my friends, we have found Bloodstone 1 in dollar bins 3 TIMES? I sent my dollar bin find out to CBCS, just got it back a few weeks ago. 9.8. still can't believe it
Bro, i think i had like 3 of these comics and i just gave them away.🙁

💯
@@ludotoyhunter8492 when the bubble burst is when I get back into the hobby. In the meantime I'd consider selling to fools that rush in.
Just buy what you like that will make you happy, Joey. If you score a gem....just think of the positives when you do!
I told a co worker of mine I picked up a spawn #1 and #300 both in 9.6 as a package deal. When I told him what I paid he said I overpaid(he’s a huge Spawn fan and has both in 9.8). Then I mentioned Todd signed them and he said I underpaid.🙂
Omg! My mom collected comics in the “80s” and I found her copy of She-Hulk#1 unopened and in its plastic cover!😱
I’m kinda not surprised
they’re all 9.8’s
You should do a 9.2 - 9.6 list
for the rest of us midline collectors that are not so lucky to have recieved the coveted top grade
I actually realllyyy like that idea - thanks for the video idea DD!
@@MintHunterComics Yeah, and it might just be my luck, but 3-4 CGC 9.6's that cost/are worth the same at purchase time as 1 CGC 9.8 often become later more valuable than the single CGC 9.8.
So, if you buy 3-4 CGC 9.6 and sell these when that CGC 9.8 is at it's peak, you'll get more money back, _often_
The money you put in 3-4 CGC 9.6's comes back in a greater value than the one CGC 9.8 at the same cost.
Can't liquidate for these prices anyway, gonna get 60%
@@ludotoyhunter8492 , I completely agree.
CONGRATS ON 10k!!! So thankful for your content!! Makes nerdy kids like me feel not alone in this hobby haha
James, great information. Cool video.
After the great price adjustment of 2021 I a huge Wolverine fan will say a 9.8 of first Patch is $400 MAX 225-345 is a good normal range. As for white Vision I totally agree why everyone didn't buy it when he lost color in Infinity war baffles me.
I have FOMO so I’m actively keeping an ear out for upcoming movies/shows, and snagging first appearances.
Also, top tier content as usual James!
By that time, you have already been hit by a price jump.
Other than very early grail comics, no prices on comics right now are justified IMO. HUGE spec bubble. It'll pop eventually. Especially if the economy keeps going the way it is.
Yep. It’s dumb.
I just started collecting seriously at the beginning of this year, seeing these old numbers makes it difficult to stomach
The crazy part is that I thought these books were too expensive in 2019 hahahahaha
@@MintHunterComics if only we knew!
Do silver age comics have a different grading criteria than a modern comic 50 year old book versus a book just printed that you can get 9.8 all day long
My fave comics guy cause of the creative content!!! Keep it up
Thanks Nate!
Interesting list man good video.
Glad you enjoyed it
It's times like this that I'm glad I'm a raw collector. I got a lot of these books for under $50, and some of them are 9.8 contenders.
Never heard of it! haha
Hey James! Nice creative list. I have to agree with many of your conclusions! Especially SIKTC #1.

Passed on the doorway to nightmare at $10 six months ago....still kicking myself
Aw man...
It was in August of this past year that Heritage Auctions was accused of shill bidding practices. They deny it on their end but the possibility of July sales being so high could be a result of that.
Huh, I actually never heard that. Wow!
Hahaha I agree yo!
How well did it work for Captain Mar-Vell?
I sort of disagree with SheHulk, the character wasn’t really collected until rumours of a tv show or movie appearances. Even her own series covers showed this.
How is house house going since the storm is it all good now?
We're 95 percent done inside! Maybe 40 percent done outside

Thanks again for a great show
Interesting video, just to see what in the list that I own (a few). I wonder about the increase in price for Alpha Flight #1. It’s gone from $4 to about $400 in the last few years.
Wow - that's a great one for sure
@@MintHunterComics I suspect the increase is based on spec they’ll appear in the mcu…
Fun fact, all graded comic book prices are dumb
And the fact movies/tv shows that have nothing at all to do with the comics cause them to go up in value imao

These are actually just the sales for direct editions! Newsstands is a hole other ballpark!

I find it stupid that the movie industry basically is dictating comic book worth.
Thanks for sharing!
That book goes for over 1k.
exactly, plus the $1350 sales were for newsstands. he doesn't understand that.
Mind if I ask what site you use for values, tracking, and analysis? I had been using GC and they kept telling me they would be fixing the upgrade issues...still not fixed since October.
I don't chase after 9.8's thankfully.
Smart man!
@@MintHunterComics it's not because I think it's beneath me. I just don't think I know how to submit comics to ensure that grade very well.
THIS - yes right here
Great list James. Agree 100% on She-hulk 1. I'm torn on Young Avengers 1. Anything from the 2000s has no business near a grand in my opinion.
There's def some 2000's books I think are deserving - for me that's one of em!
Young Avengers #1 is worth having. I would go for a raw and get it grade myself though.
EXACTLY my line of thinking.
Where do you get these prices Mint-Hunter? I need to know this for my books lol.
Great video Man, love the info & content! I wish I had seen this a couple of years ago as I recently got back into collecting and blew a wad of cash. I have a theory that there are uber-rich just snatching up 9.8s without caring how much they cost just to avoid bidding on auctions. I also thinking people are trying to create runs of CGC 9.8s because even dollar bin issues that are graded 9.8 will go for top dollar.
Right now there are some 9.8 True Believer reprints going for $300-$400 with 30+ bidders (granted they were signed by Stan Lee. but still)

@@MintHunterComics There's no better way to _clean money_ than invest in comic books, if you know what I mean. Also, that Iron Man 282 *might* have been a newsstand version, which to my knowledge can break $1k but the direct edition is well under that.
A *CGC 9.9* is another story. I do sorta feel all and any Marvel books that are a *CGC 9.9* are worth $1,000+
One of my secondary side-quest slabbed collections is buying all CGC 9.9's that are not too expensive as well as CGC 10.0's; just for speculation.
Can you imagine if in 5 years time a Giant-Size X-Men #1 showed up in a CGC 9.9 or CGC 10.0!?!
It would be worth $350,000-$500,000 in a CGC 9.9 and $1,000,000 in a CGC 10.0.
9.9's should almost always be $1,000 ESPECIALLY if it just happened to be a key!
More on Batman # 423
$ 2000 Justified
This book will keep rising ( my opinion)
Question: I have another 9.4 newstand
Newsstand vs. direct edition .
I got a loose newsstand Iron Man #282 and #283 for a buck each a couple months back sold the pair for $300 3 days later
Dude solid return there, wow
That's just good business.
I can only hope that the first Mongul cools down but I doubt it will.
Oh I know it will hahahha - I think those crazy prices were just a few outliers
They ruined comic book collecting just like everything else.
That's actually the first time I've heard the term "armchair speculators" I love it!
If you think Star Wars #68 is up there, take a look at #42. That'll blow your hair back. This was a $10 book for decades.
This
True story, between me and 2 of my friends, we have found Bloodstone 1 in dollar bins 3 TIMES? I sent my dollar bin find out to CBCS, just got it back a few weeks ago. 9.8. still can't believe it
