The world’s finest one is so weird, because if the kids were wearing bathing suits or even underwear nothing in the picture would change. So it’s kind of a Rorschach test: if you’re seeing naked kids that’s on you.
Another character who uses drugs is Hourman. The original Hourman developed a drug called Miraculo that gave him the strength of 10 men for 1 hour (thus his name). Later, they did a story where they show him being a bit high while using the drug and it was also addictive. He eventually develops a non-addictive version for his son that give him the strength of 5 men for one hour. Deathstroke has an origin similar to Captain America, except the drug he took was a bit unstable and at first it varied from day to day, sometimes he'd be enhanced and at other times he'd be in a coma-like state. Eventually it stabilized and he quit the Military to become a mercenary.
If you are referring to his origin, that was not a usage of narcotic or illegal drugs. It was a special 'serum' designed to give the person super-strength.

If you haven't already looked into it, it's not what you think. It was originally an autobiographical book by Maria Anne Hircshmann and, of course, based on her life. When Germany invaded Czech, she was indoctrinated into the Hitler Youth, but eventually realized how wrong Nazi Germany was and fled to America, becoming a Christian teacher. It's basically a story of a girl who initially supported Nazi ideals before becoming disillusioned with it, realizing it's wrong, and supports American freedom.
Politics are illogical, especially when they're right-wing. Radical Feminists lived in communes away from men, due to domestic violence, date rape, and sexual harassment. Red-Pill guys shot up colleges and exercise studios with assault weapons because they couldn't get dates!

I love how these range from legitimately problematic stuff like racism, tasteless depictions of dead real life people and controversial politics... to misunderstandings and women looking sexy. The Spider-Woman one is especially funny because for being such a "laughable representation of misogyny in comics" (how? It's a woman doing a sort of sexy pose) it's been unironically homaged since it was published, like in UDON's Street Fighter comics.
I mean, Kitty Pryde is using those racist terms but saying they are bad if I am not mistaken. Much different than just using them The GL storyline is why people call it "Women in Refrigerators" thanks to Gail Simone, if I recall correctly
Concerning GL: That was a moment where things changed for Kyle. He was feeling good, becoming comfortable with being Green Lantern, then he comes home to find is girlfriend murdered. He still lives with that to this day. During "The Sinestro Corps War" Sinestro confronts Kyle about the death of his girlfriend, and then to drive even more pain home Sinestro reveals he had Kyle's mother murdered.

For your consideration: Mike Allred's GRAPHIQUE MUSIQUE #2 (Slave Labor Graphics, 1990). It's known as the "Decapitation Cover" issue, which raised many eyebrows and generated a degree of controversy at the time of its release. Of course, it's become tamer through the years, and could be overlooked when measured against current standards. But it certainly was flagged in its heyday. Now that we're on the cusp of this video's anniversary, perhaps it's time for a sequel? Another controversial Hundred, assembled from new discoveries you've made with or without the input of commenters here. What do you think, James?
I'm just curious of what you think is a good value for a Rifleman #10 in a fair condition. I have the oppurtunity to get one for $299. I think that is to high.
Last weekend I picked up Wolverine 131 and turned out to be the recalled version. Saw a few of the other books mentioned here, thinking about going back to grab them just for rarities sake.
Great video, but I question how truly controversial some of these covers are. Oh i agree with many of them! But others had a deeper reason if you read the story. The Batgirl ripping her tights (Detective 371?), was done intentionally to distract the villains so Batman could take them out easier. Not so much misogyny if it's a tactic she used successfully.
There's another character who uses her outfit to distract opponents: Phantom Lady. She wears a very skimpy costume that is very revealing to distract male opponents.
It is a standard femme fatal trope for women that a lot of people seem to overlook today. Men are dumb and easily distracted, so why not take advantage.
This is a great list but I know of one that tops all of these. Frank Thorne’s Devil’s Angel from Eros comics in the 90s. A comic shop that sold it was accused of trafficking CP for carrying it but luckily because of the 1st amendment the case was thrown out. Frank Thorne made the final issue of the series an anti censorship comic because of the controversy
After Googling The Dead, I saw some of the other covers, and I seem to remember seeing a few of these back then. Can't remember if it was a friend or family member who had them, but being a teenager in 93 when these came out, and being into horror movies and Heavy Metal magazine, I remember thinking they were hilarious. Now I'm cringing that this even got released. And I want a copy. Also, you mention people's DNA being added to ink, and you forgot the big one, when KISS famously added vials of their blood to the red ink of the first printing of their first comic from Marvel. Maybe Marvel just has some issues. (pun not necessarily intended)
Regarding the Lois Lane story were she turned black, another startling thing about it was the title, "I Am Curious - Black". It was a play on the film title "I Am Curious - Yellow", a movie that many considered pornographic when it was released, and it was banned at many theatres. That didn't particularly go over well either.
Amazing that a lot of these even made it to print. Pretty blatant stuff. You gotta wonder where the editors were on this or how they kept their jobs. Lol!
How? Well for starters the author, illustrator and publisher all live in the United States of America and believe it or not we have something called the First Amendment which protects our right to free speech (which includes other things such as the right to publish, read and view what they wish, etc..) regardless of its subject matter.

The Spider-Woman one is especially funny because for being such a "laughable representation of misogyny in comics" (how? It's a woman doing a sort of sexy pose) it's been unironically homaged since it was published, like in UDON's Street Fighter comics.
It’s just annoying that female comic characters are constantly over sexualized
Great video! Subscribed!!
Ayyy, welcome to the family Matt and thanks for being so cool!
Great list! I didn't know a few of them! And I think you missed the big Onslaught reveal, about Prof X's past!
Damn, imagine there being controversy over superman wanting to protect the world not just 1 country. thats patriotism gone wrong.
Good video though!
Some of these are surprising that they were so controversial. That shouldn't have raised any brows but everyone got butthurt about it!
Damn, imagine being an artist and being told you're not allowed to have any artistic freedom
Too many pussies in this world lately
I can’t find the uncensored version of that The Dead book by jason Moore
Lol two seconds later I find it... Jesus how did they let him make that cover lol
That may be for the best!
I HAVE NO IDEA!
11:24 kitty had no chill and no filter back in the day 😂
honestly all of the Crime SuspenStories covers were pretty crazy for back then
There’s What if Volume 1, # 16. Marvel left it out of the omnibus because of the title. It’s on my hunt list and now you’ve added a couple more!
I mean, Kitty Pryde is using those racist terms but saying they are bad if I am not mistaken. Much different than just using them
The GL storyline is why people call it "Women in Refrigerators" thanks to Gail Simone, if I recall correctly
@@Solitaire001 sure. But to other people it says female characters are there to have horrible things happen to them as motivation for male heroes. Instead of being their own real characters
Thank you!!! You explained the Kitty Pryde thing very well. I could not put my thoughts together coherently.
She was NOT using that kind of language as insults. She was pointing out actually calling people hateful names is wrong.
In the second comic, the guy she was talking to literally made a racial slur at her IN THE SAME PANEL. And she did NOT call him a racial slur back.
@@scotthewitt258 I mean she kind of did and didnt call him the n word lol. She doing the youre lucky im a better person than you and wont actually call you the slur
She hulk was not naked in the issue once the rope slowed she had clothes on
I can't find the uncensored comic book cover of The Dead #2 Varient Cover. It just shows me The Walking Dead or it blurred out.
Good grief butt canyon. Wow, did not know about the Wolverine controversy. Ah the refrigerator. Alf!
I'm making butt canyon a new phrase
Star Sapphire having Superman kiss her boot in front of the world has strong vibes of Superman trying to convince the entire world that he’s not gay.
lol what?
Is there any chance of having the full list? I am missing a bunch I need to track down.
I happened to get a copy of Immortal Hulk #43 as I was getting all of the Marvel Vs Alien variant covers.
Ayyy! nice!
That Spider-Woman cover is not sexism or misogyny. It’s just gratuitous.
Exactly, saying it's "misogyny" is sexist in it of itself
can't say I'm surprised about Van Sciver being on here multiple times.
14:49 can someone explain this one
It's probably somehow linked to rape, that's my guess at least
5:02, totally not invoking the iconic photo of RFK's assassination.
The only people getting butthurt from the Astonishing X-Men 51 cover are the characters getting married. 😉
Ironman: Demon In A Bottle was the best movie the MCA never made.
I'm just curious of what you think is a good value for a Rifleman #10 in a fair condition. I have the oppurtunity to get one for $299. I think that is to high.
The Dead #2 cover made Rafael Alburquerque 's Killing Joke variant look like a sketch straight out of DaVinci's notebooks.
I have literally never been more shocked at anything else eve. Genuinely worse than that Iconic cannibal corpse cover, you know the one
Last weekend I picked up Wolverine 131 and turned out to be the recalled version. Saw a few of the other books mentioned here, thinking about going back to grab them just for rarities sake.
Sweet!
Great topic great list. Thanks for the vid.
Glad you enjoyed Ronnie!
Some of these are superrrrrrrr tame
I had to do some googling on that one - quite the interesting story!
The dead #2, wow they really put a lot of detail on that
The Dead #2 blows my mind how it got through
Just found your channel today and watched a ton of your vids. Keep them coming, brotha!! 🤓
Ayyyy welcome to the family brother! Glad to have you join. Nice username lol
Ah yes you're right! also it's not comic but look up what the cover of Metallica's "Load" is a picture of behind the meaning
@@MintHunterComics Huge Metallica fan here! Still amused and grossed out by that.
The kirk cobaine one is insane holy shit
Regarding the Lois Lane story were she turned black, another startling thing about it was the title, "I Am Curious - Black". It was a play on the film title "I Am Curious - Yellow", a movie that many considered pornographic when it was released, and it was banned at many theatres. That didn't particularly go over well either.
That action comics 457 came to mind while watching this list and I knew it had to be on here
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
Man these covers!
What a compilation - Thank you
I love 4 kids walk into a bank, it's one of my favourite comic books ever. That cover makes me respect it even more
Amazing that a lot of these even made it to print. Pretty blatant stuff. You gotta wonder where the editors were on this or how they kept their jobs. Lol!
some of these are tame but some it's like how'd this happen?
the dead #2 cover is gross and horrible HOW did that get published??
Sigh who knows
How? Well for starters the author, illustrator and publisher all live in the United States of America and believe it or not we have something called the First Amendment which protects our right to free speech (which includes other things such as the right to publish, read and view what they wish, etc..) regardless of its subject matter.
Why not?its art
"Truth, Justice, And the American Way"- It's Not Enough Anymore.
Ok, but demon in a bottle was GENIUS.
Hi new subscriber here 😁 freaking awesome video BUWAHAHAHA 🤣😂 thanks for sharing 😁
That "World's Finest Comics" cover showed guys in the river from THE WAIST UP ! Of course you can't see them wearing clothes ! The swimming costumes can't be seen anyway !
Good point.
I instantly regretted googling The Dead #2, I’m impressed with the research put into making this video.
Hahaha pretty crazy for sure. And yeah this one took a LONG time to put together for sure!
@@MintHunterComics Appreciate the effort, great video!
I'm still trying.no way it can be that bad.🤔
@@stevenschaller1672 I just Googled it and it's pretty bad. OMG how did they get away with that cover
Cool video. Very well made
Thanks Rick! Cheers
I'm surprised Boiled Angel wasn't #1. Dude went to prison for obscenity for that one.
