I think I would add the Death of Superman (Superman #75). Every store has it, most still in the white plastic. Everyone bought a copy or ten, even non-collectors.
The Green Lantern 48 and 49 are 2 books I've been looking to find in the wild for the longest time. Especially that #49. That cover with him and all those rings was one of the books that made me want to pursue this hobby again
So nice seeing that heavenly SGT. FURY #1. Man, when I was 10 years old in 1968 how I dreamed of owning that comic. The old Sarge and the guys were my best buds back then. But none of my neighborhood or school friends and none of their friends had a copy of it. Believe it or not, that was the sum total of my comics MARKETPLACE in 1968, lol. I never did land a copy, but I still get the smile chills whenever I see it. Another great vid, James. Keep the pages turning, my friend.
"I find that comic more often than sand on a beach!" This statement can apply to so many 90's comics. Lol. Great video. I was fortunate in my 4 decades of collecting comics that during a 3 year period where I was unable to buy comics... it was between 1993-1996. The reason why it worked out was because when I returned to collecting around 1997, it was post-bubble-burst and I caught up on all the comics I loved and it cost me only pennies on the dollar. Back in the mid-late 90's - there were many 25 cent bins. I chuckle at how many great 90's comics that I got for a song.
*_Jim Lee's X-Men no.1 was ordered 3,500,000 copies, but 8,000,000 copies were printed. Where the rest are, no one seems to have found out. Shredded, I'm sure. Obtaining a uncirculated box of X-Men no.1-and of Spawn no.1-should be doable? Maybe?_*
I find pretty much 90's Valiant and Image comics. I went through 3 long boxes the other day at the local thrift store and found 3 Marvel comics, all the rest were Archer and Armstrong, Turok, and Eternal Warrior with a few Image titles that went no where.
In my area, it's X-O Manowar #0. Or Turok #1. X-Force #1. Lady Death II: Between Heaven & Hell #1. Web Of Spider Man #100 (usually not in the best of condition, though). Healthy number of Spider-Man #16's too, that sideways crossover with X-Force.
Another great video, have all of those books. Some other very common ones are x force #1, John Byrnes Superman #1, and of course spawn #1 which I was suprised wasn’t on your list. Thanks, have been enjoying your content.
For sure Turok, black bag Superman as well as white bag Superman. Others like X-men, wildcats, Youngblood also saw a lot. Great video rehashing memories! 😂🤣
The most common book I find when I look at my own collection is Fantastic Four 149 (vol. 1). That was the first book I bought from my local 7-11 with my own money as a kid. I pick up copies of it in high grade when I come across good deals. My well read (and loved) copy didn't fair so well. The orange cover just caught the eye of 9 year-old me and started me down the path of collecting comics.
Hahahaah have them all. The one I wouldn’t mind buying all the time would be Killing Joke 1st print or maybe to have a “run” of all the Killing Joke printing color variants lol.
great list....yeah finding X-Men #1 is about as tough as finding a pothole in Pennsylvania. I actually find Green Lantern #46 a lot (Basically when Hal starts losing it), Superman 75 (still polybagged), X-Force #1 (about as common as X-Men), definitely Turok, Batman #497 (everyone thought they were going to retire off of this and Superman 75), Bloodshot #1, Shadowhawk #1, Spawn #1-5, New Mutants #1 I see a lot...just so many 90's books all over the place...can't shake a stick without hitting them and 80's-90's baseball cards...lol.....great list
Couldnt agree more. If I didn't have a copy of Venom 1 or Xmen 1, I'd really want to get one for my collection. But after you get several of each, and realize that they'll never run out, you just lose any interested in acquiring more.
Comics I wouldn't mind having but are likely beyond my price range are: THE CROW #1, SANDMAN #8 (1st appearance of DEATH) and EVIL ERNIE #1 (1st appearance of LADY DEATH) These were among some of the coolest Gothic characters from a moody and apprehensive era! The Xmen cover C is the one I liked the MOST and it's the one I see the LEAST! Even when they were published, I remember it was the smallest stack! It featured ROGUE, GAMBIT and PSYLOCK, who were my favorites at the time; I considered buying two copies but decided against it and later bought the gatefold variant: the punchline is Cover C sold out the fastest, perhaps because the shop owner didn't order just as many as the others?
Whatnot is littered with those X-Men 1 issues. Like other commenters here, I have almost every comic you mentioned. Every one bought off the rack when they came out. I don't see Wolverine 1 very often. I'm constantly seeing the four issues of the mini-series, whether it's in an LCS or on an auction site, there they are.
Great list! I agree with all of them. Some others I see all the time are the X-cutioner's song books that ran through the X titles. They are all still bagged with those light blue poly bags that make them stand out in the stacks. I used to see the Watchmen run all the time also.
I have a couple of those books. I did get my Venom signed by Sam De la Rosa last year. I sent it to CBCS ti get a yellow label. It looks amazing with his signature over Venom's head in white ink. One i think you're missing is Spawn #1.
the 90s high print run books i will always pick up are the newstand variants. At least if they are still in high grade. Funny thing is even those early 90s books are 30 yrs old now! Little perspective lol
Agree with this list 100%. I don’t personally have the Batman 1 or Green Lantern or Turok books. The rest have all snuck into the PC for a buck. I would add Spawn 1 to the list too at least from my experience
That green lantern, xmen o.ega red where from 90s when you can find them in comic stores. , plus stores like toys r us who sold them in different packaging. I use to go through so many packages back in 1994-96 looking for spawn #1 on front. I remember seeing 1st harky quinn back then but it was worth nothing at the time.
I have yet to run into a first omega red!!! I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS pick up Spiderman #1 anytime I see it!!! I'm a huge fan of The Toddfather I can't help it!!! I also want a 9.8 set!!! I have to get that Venom book back!!! I sold mine off and never found another copy...weird...Please no more Turok!!! I ran into half a short box of that damn book one time!!! I love the Jim Lee connecting covers. I still have my original off the rack copies. A book I've run into a bunch of times is Zatanna #16. It always seems to fall in my lap. Great video man!!!
When I started the video and saw the first appearance of Nick Fury I thought OMG, you find this grail every week!!! I need to go along to your yard sales
Great video. I have to confess that I have a raw set of X-Men #1 and a complete 9.8 slabbed set (CGC). I do love the covers as they show all the classic X-Men characters from the 90's. You are right though, they are everywhere in both raw and graded. Good news is, you can get them pretty cheap still.
X force number one in the poly bag is still the most common book I think. However if you find the one with the Deadpool card is a little less common the cable card is the most common in the polybag
you listed a lot of my books lmao! I find them amazing even if the print run is high, just because i live out of the USA so its really rare to actually find these books at a good price here in my country. one of my wishes is to be able to go to those flea markets or LCS to find little treasures like you do!
Any of the early Image books really. Man are they still everywhere! I think its a testament to how many were printed. A WHOLE LOT! Love the Nick Fury 1 sir! Such a toughie in ANY grade!
I've found 3 Green Lantern 86s since the beginning of the year. I wouldn't say it pops up regularly, just happened to pop up 3x since New Years. 1 copy looks fine but has detached cover. the other 2 are pretty nice. Best is about an 8.5. Picked them all up at different times and places for what I think are decent prices. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
I don't really hunt, so I haven't felt numb to seeing any of the Jim Lee X-Men comics. It's probably because I'm a big fan of the artist. If I were to feel nothing about a Jim Lee X-Men comic, it's the X-Men #1 regular covers since I never really cared for them to begin with. Whenever I see an X-Men #1, I check out the condition of the Wraparounds to see if it's better than what I already have, and I'll just buy that. You're right about the regular X-Men #1s being priced at $5. It's mind-boggling that it came to be this way. To really hammer home, how common that X-Men #1 is, I've heard of at least one comic shop owner who had an unopened box of X-Men #1 in storage.
I have two copes of X-men volume 2 #1. I have the cover that has magneto and the one that has Wolverine, Cyclops, and Ice man. It was in a collection of comics my uncle gave me many years ago.
Haha I listened to this on the way to an antique place that's mostly furniture but has a couple booths with dollar books, playing hooky from work for the Friday afternoon. I'm like wtf is Wildcats #1.. saw like 5 of them lol. I have alk the Marvel stuff you called out, but don't flip through DC/independent bins much. Only good find was a 2nd appearance Deadpool, somehow in solid shape. One spot literally had all books in 1 gallon ziplock bags, probably cost 5x comic bags lol.
I can vouch for the Green Lantern one as well. I got two GL longboxes, containing Hal's 90s run, Mosaic, and some of Kyle's run, at an estate sale and that issue was the best taken care of
I have most of these, all from when I was a teen. I can say for certain that I have every X-men one cover, a few doubles actually and since you only need to read one copy all the others are baged(mylar)/boarded with never cracking the cover open once.
I have a 9.8 wolverine and I also have 10 raw copies mostly 9.8 9.6s... I also have a L.P. #1 9.8 signed and sketched... But again I also have 50 raw copies.. I sorta see your point I don't grab them anymore but that's only because I never paid anymore than 15.00 for any of those 2 books..going back 5 years now.. Keep the information coming love the content...
When I stopped collecting back in the day, the last issue of GL I bought was 48 :) When I got back into new comics in '05, I saw Rebirth and was like "What the the hell? Hal was dead?? Hal was a bad guy???" Ya, I had to do some reading. When I checked my long dusty box of GLs, that's when I noticed 48 was the last and that I probably never even read it .. so close
Great list. If you find another Green Lantern 49 if you could send that to me please lol. I can’t find it anywhere hahahaha. Also I submitted an X-men #4 and 3 Venom #1 to CGC for my first submission ever. Crazy that they are on this list
I have them all, except GL 48. Weirdly, I’ve never come across a copy since it originally came out. Granted, I’m rarely looking since I’m not a GL collector. I was looking in the bins on Wednesday, and my shop had multiple copies of X-Force 1 and 2. Very common books, I know, but 2 goes for at least ten bucks, so I was a little surprised no one had claimed them. I left them there, I already have copies.
I have 9 of the 10, but that’s only because I sold my Venom #1 a long time ago (back before it was actually worth anything - oops!). I bought all of them except Spider-Man 1 and Killing Joke the week they came out. Man, I’m old… 😕
Hey, James! I just wanted to let you know that this video inspired me to make my own video about taking comics out of the polybags they were sold in. I hope it's OK that I gave you a shoutout in my video that will post tomorrow (3-4-22). Thanks again!
Funny, I flipped through Darkhawk #1 (hate that cover) and the inking was super thick and dark. The art was nothing special. The colors looked horrible on newsprint and I happily sold my copy. I'll never understand the attraction or hype to that book
@@jesnyc146 I don't think there ever was one, I'm pretty sure it was joke hype created in online forums just to generate buzz around a common worthless book
🤣 I'm guilty of having 9.8s of all the Marvel titles here, & especially every single X-Men #1 cover 😂 Oh wait I still need that Omega Red first appearance...
I just realized I don't have a xmen 1 guess I'll need to pick up one of the 500 available at my next local con I still liked the vid though and glad to see your marvel grail wall will now be filled with what 5 grails now
The correct answer is Image. Everything and anything Image. Darker Image, Brigade, Supreme, etc. A thrift store in my neighborhood had about 20 long boxes and one was labeled "Image Crap"
How was X-Force 1 not on the list? I see that book every time.
I think I would add the Death of Superman (Superman #75). Every store has it, most still in the white plastic. Everyone bought a copy or ten, even non-collectors.
Easiest to find in general but hardest to find in 9.8 quality!
Superman 500 is the white plastic bagged comic. 75 was in a black bag.
I feel like I see a dozens of those die cut S superman books for every 75 I come across.
TRUE WHITE BAGS UNOPENED STILL UNREAD ALSO GREEN COVER NEXT TO IT. YET BLACK BAGS ARE HARD TO FIND.
“Omega Red is my favorite villain” said no one ever. Entirely speculation driven.
The Green Lantern 48 and 49 are 2 books I've been looking to find in the wild for the longest time. Especially that #49. That cover with him and all those rings was one of the books that made me want to pursue this hobby again

great video man, really waiting for comic hunting
Do I have those in my collection? Those are my collection. 🤣
Just hunt most comics are out there. Great video
Thought death of Superman would be on the list for sure!
An honorable mention for sure
Excellent graphics. Thanks.

Hey great video man! Im just now getting back into the hobby, and just subscribed👍🏼
Definitely X-men 1…and I do have all the variants lol. They are a dime a dozen. But bought them at the store when they came out.
Haha I listened to this on the way to an antique place that's mostly furniture but has a couple booths with dollar books, playing hooky from work for the Friday afternoon. Great list and video of the books I don't have 3 issues in my collection
I’m a sucker for Killing Joke & Wolverine I find & I buy it. I live in Bucks County so I believe we go to the same stores.
Wish I lived near you finding these books all the time :)
This wasn't near me
There's an X-Men 1 laying in plain sight when you walk into my comic room. In fact, I think I have all these, including the honorable mentions.
Hi James. I am on holiday in florida and wondered if you have ever visited colleseum of comics? I know you don't live here but just wondering. Thanks
Not that I know of
I wish I could find these comics in the wild 😂
I actually have TWO X-Men Number 1’s. I accidentally bought the Magneto cover for cheap, not realizing that I already had the A one.😂
Great topic.
When Xmen 1 came out I bought one of each cover, as did everyone else I know
What source you use for comic prices?
The prices sounds like comic book stores and Mile High Comics.
I wish I saw these books every weekend in person 😆
When I stopped collecting back in the day, the last issue of GL I bought was 48 :) When I got back into new comics in '05, I saw Rebirth and was like "What the the hell? Hal was dead??
Very common books, I know, but 2 goes for at least ten bucks, so I was a little surprised no one had claimed them. I left them there, I already have copies.
Lol I have almost all of these. Feeling a little basic, but I love them.
I have 9 of the 10, but that’s only because I sold my Venom #1 a long time ago (back before it was actually worth anything - oops!). I bought all of them except Spider-Man 1 and Killing Joke the week they came out. Man, I’m old… 😕
I have the X-Men covers. I had to get all 4.
Wish I was finding Lethal Protector all the time. But I feel like we don't have any good LCS in my area.
Darkhawk 9. Literally multiple copies everywhere.
I’m completely burned out on all the books you showed. I don’t even like to look at them. Except for the Turok and killing Joke.
Dude I see those 90's x-men books so much I just look past them at this point ahahah!
In regards to books I never see in the wild, TMNT Adventures 71 & 72.
I wish I find any of these often in my hunts tbh granted there are a a lot of hunters where I live
I definitely see Spawn comics quite frequently
Love the Spawn Scorched #3 X men #1 homage cover coming soon.
I’m not gonna lie I’ve been looking for that book. It’s just something about wolverine lol.
The L.P. venom #1 red foil is what I see the most of
Every LCS I step into seems to have complete runs of early 90’s Batman and Detective Comics. (The Knightfall story arc)
to me the 80s was THE decade for great books.great stories.great firsts etc
Generation X #1 which I always seem to buy anyway.

I'd have to say Spawn #6 everywhere I go , dam overtkill is in every back issue spawn bin no matter what shop you go to
Was waiting for death of Superman. Great list man
I would love to see a Star Wars book show
