Here’s how to recover data on an iPhone 13 Pro Max that is water damaged. This phone was in really bad shape, with rust everywhere.
So I walk through the full process on how I go about recovering the data.
First step is always removing all the unnecessary parts, like the screen, housing, battery and just completely removing the board out of the original housing.
Then we focus on just the motherboard.
Since this is a sandwich model, we use the X360 V2 board heater to split the sandwich, as we only need the top board to recover data from this model.
With just the top board, we inspect where all the corrosion is and clean it with Isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush.
We then test the boarb with the DT880 (DC Power Supply) to check for shorts before & after prompt to boot. Surprisingly, this didn’t have any.
I tried to boot with a screen connected & found there was no image, as the display FPC connector was corroded and in really bad condition. So I replaced the connector & then found we had a short before prompt to boot.
Using the Seek Thermal Camera, we were able to inject voltage & find the short.
After clearing the short, we were finally able to get the data off the phone using 3u tools to back it up, then Jihosoft iTunes Backup Extractor to extract the data.
I hope you enjoy the video!

Jesse - awesome vids! My new favorite board repair hangout for sure. I'm going to upgrade from a digital-only microscope to a trinocular and I'm thinking the barlow .5 lense to gain a wider FOV. Which microscopes do you like? I'd like to stay under $700USD if possible.

Hey Jesse - I'm getting ready to order that microscope(through your link) and I'm wondering if you have your set up with the default base, or if you use one of those articulating arms?

    • @VCCBoardRepairs

I don't have an articulating arm
      Just the regular base

I have a old iPhone X that had a lot of good memories on it it got wet now the Motherboard is bad!
If I replace the board will it take off my iCloud & photos?
I never had iCloud storage bad decision

    • @VCCBoardRepairs
      @VCCBoardRepairs  11 месяцев назад

All the data that was not backed up to iCloud is trapped inside that motherboard.
So it has to be recovered from that specific motherboard. You can't replace it since the data won't be on the replacement motherboard

Hey Jesse, I always see you using alcohol and a toothbrush to clean things off, how can you don't use a Sonic cleaner to get off a lot of the corrosion and things like that? After you have inspected the board, it looks like you would be more efficient. Do you have reasons why you wouldn't do it?
