Tacoma all day!!!
Raptor > Tundra TRD Pro > Gladiator > Tacoma TRD Pro > Colorado ZR2 > the rest > Dodge
Nope. Went ZR2 diesel instead.
TheStraightPipes Do they mark them up in Canada ? They cost 65k in Los Angeles area.
any vehicle is submergible at least once!
@@maxchevelle9334 very true. The only question is if it's driveable after the submersion event 😂

honestly the snorkel looks dumb. lol.
I have a Tacoma sport the problem is my wife is heavy 220 pounds, i need to put a sway bar in front to keep the truck level.

The whole truck leans

Damn, respect
Thats a keeper for sure!

Especially in the upcoming Raptor update
@@TheStraightPipes so it'll be "My Ford Raptor has fox shocks, just like my Ford Raptor?" :D
@@TheStraightPipes there is a small percent of people that want or need a Raptor. Around here, the guys that drive them wear more makeup than their wife.
Yeah, it’s getting annoying

Love your videos but your ads are getting too long gentleman.
@@James-rd9mo Gotta pay the bills somehow
My civic has an engine, just like my FORD RAPTOR
TheStraightPipes when’s the Pacifica review coming?
That Automatic Trans is computerized completely for gas mileage. If you hit the ECT Power button it feels normal.
I have a TRD offroad, not the pro, but I'm 6'1" and have no issue with any of their seating issues. I feel like this video was made to join in with the tacoma worlders hahaha! To each their own obviously, but I absolutely love my truck (other than the radio, they're right about it!)
@@stuarthaggard2971 I had a 16 TRD Off-road too, got rid of it because the transmission was a pile of garbage. Even with ECT it was indecisive, ended up getting 3 updates for the ecu/trans through toyota and it didn't do a thing
We tried ect mode, slightly better but didn't solve the problem
James Simpson but it still doesn’t get good gas mileage.
@@harrismi7 i beg to differ i've seen up to 28 MPG or more from reports and real life experience which is a lot better than my 4Runner or the 2nd Gen Tacoma
Next years Tacoma adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Rewinding Satellite Radio and power adjusting seats
*seat lol
Tony Ren the lights will also be LED i think.
r they finally adding a diesel also?
For a small bump of $2k in price lol
Funny thing is this truck will still sell. While other manufacturers already re-design and add all these tech features. Toyota is getting apple car play in 2020. Haha.
I'm 6'1 and I have the 2018 TRD Pro. The driving position is definitely an acquired taste. I bought the truck blind because it's impossible to test drive these things just like a Raptor. When I sat in it for the first time, it felt like I was WAY too high up with barely any headroom. Anyway, I've had the truck for 6 months now and love every bit of it. Like I said, you eventually get used to these minor "quirks".

3 months ago I bought a new 2019 TRD Off Road DCSB. I’m 5’8” and find the seating position comfortable. I drive a lot - 13500 miles in the past 3 months. I’m averaging 20-22 MPG, high performance was 26 on a trip between Chattanooga and Owensboro KY and back. I did not get a sunroof as it takes about 2 inches or so away from the headroom. I own a horse farm - on a river - and I find the 4 WD capability very impressive. I do use the truck around our farm and I genuinely appreciate the footprint of this truck as it is easy to maneuver around my river trails. I own quite a few vehicles and I must say this little truck is very impressive and fits my needs well.
I'm glad someone finally mentioned the good resale value of Tacomas. In the world of automobiles, they're an investment vehicle.
Well your an idiot, or they were pieces of shit. People pay good money for yotas.
@@2011buddylee good resale value but investment? Nah, look for a vehicle or any item that would have some insane demand as it seems that's where it's at.
I’m 6 foot 5 and I actually hit my head on the frame when getting in my friend’s Tacoma. I drive a Subaru Impreza and have more head room.
Haha. Same for both. Was just going to say that. My Subie has more room.
At 6'2" the interior space in the Tacoma was a deal breaker for me. The Ranger was acceptable and the Colorado was the most comfortable.
The 2018 tacoma is way too small at 6'2 for me, yet my 1988 toyota truck fits me perfectly. I guess the barebones design leaves alot of extra room.
At 6'4" I have plenty of head room in my 19 ZR2. Tacoma's are do for a total redesign to keep up with all new mid sized trucks.
Also a fellow 6'5" human. The number of vehicles that I SHOULD be able to fit in but don't is ridiculous. Old Taurus form 90s yes fit fine. Modern Taurus, not at all. Hell I tried to get in a new chevy tahoe the other day and I was one speed bump from bopping my head. But get in a kia 900, I fit everywhere. Big vehicle does not equal room for big guys
Just bought a TRD off road in cement. Literally my favorite vehicle ever. Smooth. Beautiful. Great Resale value. But yeah, the pictures in genre of music is striaght trash.
This was one of the funniest things I noticed when driving my dads Tacoma
6'4" Have the Tacoma without sun roof. No head room issues. You get some added space that way. I get about 20 mpg driving lightly (3.5L v6). I agree steering wheel is too low and driving position not great though.
I'm 5'7" and felt great sitting in the car. Could see everything and was able to get in and out super comfortably. I loved the proportions.
I have a 17 Tacoma TRD Off road, saved nearly 14g's and just bought the Pro parts my self. 5'6 and OK room inside. Not 100% comfortable. Happy with my truck, can't imagine not having it and I have a STI and S2000 as well.
What part's did you add.?
S2k for the win. Nice cars
You got a nice stable, all the essentials!
No matter how many things you find wrong with this truck, they don't over shadow the enjoyment of driving one! Beauty of choice you buy what you want! Just traded my TRD off-road Tundra crew... No problem with seat position in my new taco! Enjoyed the review.
Right on
It's pretty funny how Toyota designed the transmission in the 3rd gen Tacoma to be more passive in order for better fuel economy. Yet somehow, it manages to get worse fuel economy than the 2nd gen Tacoma with the bigger 4.0L engine and way more responsive transmission.
I love Toyota, but in all honesty, that "love" is beginning to fade pretty quickly.
Their low-tech and inconsiderate approach to everything is REALLY starting to show.
'newer' engine is Atkins-Cylce so you end up using more throttle and defeat the purpose of it....
Just bought a used TRD off road. And... yes the gripes on the street and everything you guys reviewed is true. Seating position is great for sticking your head out of the window for approaches EVERYBODY YOU NEED TO ACTUALLY WHEEL THIS THING ITS SO MUCH FUN! Very capable truck off road this needs to be reviewed off road it is a multipurpose vehicle. Compromises need to be made in places
Hey dudes! I watch you guys from Chicago. Love y’all and keep up the great work! 👍🏽
Traditionally the Snorkel was made for pulling air up higher to keep the air filter cleaner. Instead of pulling it from the engine compartment when driving on dirty or sandy roads. I’ve seen an air cleaner get completely dirty in a few hours of following someone in the high desert.
Thanks for the info, I was going to ask what the snorkel was for. Lol
@@somlim821 Yeah my guess is that Toyota was not interested in selling a warranty with the approval of taking the truck under water lol. I'm sure someone will make a kit to make the intake sealed.
@@changes165 exactly, also you usually have to do other things as well like extend diff breather tubes before a truck is actually submersible up to the air box.
Yes. This snorkel was address during Toyota conference years back. It’s purpose is for what you’ve said.
@@somlim821 Toyota actually calls it a Desert Air Intake. Like James said, its meant to keep you above the dust cloud when driving in desert or sandy conditions.
It’s my dream truck, not only does it look as sexy as a raptor, but it’s definitely more reliable. That’s all I need.
Everything Made Fun ahhh yes. Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of recalls. But they made a reliable truck in 97. So this one is too!
I am 5 foot 6 and I own a TRD Off Road...May be a a bit biased, but for a guy my size, the truck really fits me well. No issues with stealing position or button issues. Love the truck!
I owned a 91 Toyota pickup (before they called it a Taco) and the driving position was exactly as you’ve describe on the new one. I absolutely loved it, it reminded me of how high I was off the ground without the roof being too high. I also like the light steering, it’s not a sports car. My current favorite is the Jeep Renegade concept pickup from a few years back, a close second is the that baby blue two door Jeep concept (the four door is way too long), and the Taco is third. In a few years I expect to be on the market for a small pickup, hopefully by then someone will have an small electric pickup, not hybrid, just electric motor & batteries, like our old RC cars.....simple. Thanks for a great review gentlemen 🍺
I own a 2019 TRD Pro and I actually like the Desert Air Intake. I feel like it gives it character, plus the airbox is sealed with a one-way valve that I would assume is decent at preventing water intrusion (not about to test that theory though). I'm 5' 10" and fit in the truck just fine, but headroom is a bit tight.
Really my only complaint is that ancient transmission, but you learn to live with it in favor of an otherwise great truck. I love mine and can't recommend enough for anyone even remotely interested in offroading.
I’m 5’7 and I’m comfortable in my taco but I tend to readjust my back often. Everything is fine tho.
Took you guys long enough!!! XD I've been waiting for the straight pipes to do a Tacoma review since like forever!
Nice review guys. I have a 2017 TRD Pro and I am about 5’-10” and I am very comfortable in the drivers seat. The sweet spot is around 5’-5” to 5’-11”. Cheers. Good old Canadian boys 👍
I own and daily drive a 2006 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road, I love the thing. However almost every thing you guys complained about I can easily relate to, even in a truck 13 years older 😂
I actually just got a 2019 Voodoo blue Tacoma pro. I honestly love it! I see it as my perfect truck, but I can definitely see reasons other people wouldn't want it. Mainly cause it is more compacted which I love but some people need and want the more room. But honestly I love the feel of it and love the look! 😁👍🏼
Luke Good that’s the type of person that buys it. For looks. Not anything else
@@ItzzTesta You’re not very smart
I’m 6’ tall, fit great. Everything works great and I average 20 mpg in town with a 2” lift and oversized tires.
Thanks for an easy to watch real review. I share a lot of the same gripes about this truck which is exactly why I don't own one and still have my Nissan Frontier.
Love when trucks come prepare for off roading from factory. My second favorite, just behind the RAPTOR.
@NinjaMonsterMG What up?!
Thanks for the feedback and support. I REALLY appreciate it! 👊🏼
It's damped/damping/damper when you're talking about resistance proportional to the velocity of the moving object. Dampened/dampening/dampener is all about moisture.
Im 6' and I have plenty of head room in my 2015 Tacoma, and the 4.0 with the 5 speed auto is the perfect combo for that truck. Shifts nicely with plenty of torque. Also I put 90k on it so far with zero issues. I haven't even had to change the brake pads yet.
I’m 5”8 and I fit perfectly in my 2002 tacoma
I'm 6'3" and drove a 2014 tacoma for 2 years with zero complaints about the space.
How is that possible? I'm 6'1" and I feel like a giant inside a Tacoma. It's such a tiny truck...
Travis Goodspeed I mean if you've only ever been inside 1/2 ton trucks then yeah, it's gonna feel small. But the Tacoma was the first truck I ever got in and I was perfectly comfortable. Commuted 100 miles in it each day, never had a single complaint.
As a 6 ft 2 guy I love my truck and have all the room.
I'm 5'5 and driving the tacoma was very comfortable for me. I did notice how low the seat was to the floor, though
@Quix hahahaha lol🤣bro
I'm 5'11" and had a 18' Taco. The cab was just way too cramped at the driver seat and back seats. Not alot of head space especially in the back. I traded it in for a Tundra TRD Pro and could not be happier.
I daily a Taco and I have no complaints about seating or anything, and I'm 6 foot!
5’9 and I fit perfectly in my taco, I think I’m the only one who likes the seating position
123takua I own a second gen taco and I’m 6’4(allllll legs) and I love the seating position ;)
I'm 5'10 and it fits me fine and I have LONG legs. Also I've heard from people that are 6'2 and they fit just fine in it; not sure what people are complaining about.
solid ranting sessions, nice throwback vids. good job guys
I am 5'11". Love my Tacoma, pretty comfortable for me on long road trips. You definitely have to do what I call the Tacoma shuffle to get in the truck without hitting your knees on the wheel. Once I mastered the move it is not a big deal for me. Overall I think it is a reasonably refined, nice truck to drive on a daily basis. It is not without its gripes, and I drive the 6 MT so I do not have to worry about the automatic gear hunting issues.
My dad has 2019 Tacoma trd sport 4x4 and he did a couple mods to it like the grill, the bumpers, a 3 inch lift, wheels and tires, and supercharger, a skid plate, and fog lights, a different exhaust system, as well as different decals, and it’s a MANUAL😱
I'm 6'1" and I've gotten used to the high floor, low roof. It's a Tacoma. They've always been like that. It's all about clearance.
burqueboy505 I’m 6’2. Pass. It’s not worth the backache.
@@alliejr dude really it's not as bad as people claim. My back doesn't ache at all. 6'2" may be pushing it though.
So real question. I’m 6’7. I would absolutely be uncomfortable in this? I’m looking for a truck, but full size ones seem way too fat imo.
@@XxCrankyMoosexX Gotta sit in it and take it for a test drive to know. No substitute for doing your own research.
@@XxCrankyMoosexXprobably not a good choice for you. Sounds like you need a dump truck lol
I really wanted to like the Tacoma, it’s my favorite looking small truck. I took it for a test drive and had the same problem, my hair is on the headliner and my legs were up in an awkward position. I also couldn’t get in without hitting the steering wheel. It was such a let down knowing I can’t fit in it.
LOL, yesterday I was looking for this episode and all I found was the 4runner ... and today you upload it.
Y’all have the best review channel on RUclips no doubt
I'm 5' 11" and fit fine, but I've been driving a Taco for years, so maybe I'm just used to it?
Not gunna lie... I’m 5’4 and I’m pretty comfortable in the Tacoma😂

I’m same height and love my Tacoma seats
What about 6'5" 260lbs man?
5'8 and I can't wait to get a Tacoma lol
Im 5’5 with a manual taco. I feel PERFECTLY comfortable. Ovtuned with an exhaust so I got torque and horsepower
I am 5'4" and having no problem get in and out of my 2019 Tacoma and 2017 4Runner TRD PRO. My tacoma MPG is 20.5 in both of city and highway together. One thing I don't like is the loud engine noise when climbing up hill. It is a lot more noisier than my previous 2005 Taco TRD. Over all it is a very beautiful Sport TRD truck and love it.
FYI that Screen has been in the Taco since 2016 my brother had it, until the it stopped functioning and out of warranty.....
I have a 2019 tacoma and the odd thing is that I’m 5’10 and 160lbs and have never hit my knees on the wheel but my dad who is 5’8 and 220 always locks my wheel up getting in and out. I find it odd that I’m between your heights and have no problem with something you have problems with... anyway, love your reviews and channel. And Tacoma forever
Sounds like your dad needs more vegetables and less McDonalds!
i’m 6’0” and i fit perfectly comfortably in my trd pro. plus if you want the transmission to shift faster press the ect power. your welcome
Great review. Thanks for keeping it real. Subbed.
In the states, you can get the TRD pro without the “snorkel” option
I test drove one recently, had to move my seat all the way to the back. Felt like i was sitting on the floor trying to drive this thing.
I'm 6'5" and wanted to purchase a Tacoma. The Toyota salesman said: "Don't even try to fit in there". He was correct, after pushing the seat all the way back, 1/3 of my view out the front was the hood.
I'm 5' 8" with short legs and I fit perfectly and find the seating comfortable.
@2:00 Solid meme reference compels me to thumbs up
Beautiful 😍
Looks perfect in that blue. There is no best in class but this Tacoma is by far my fav truck. Get the manual tranny too
Great video! Much love from Pickering 🤘
Favorite part of Tacoma TRD Pro review: the unexpected but welcomed off road Gladiator cuts.... I guess I know which one I should buy.
Can’t get the manual TRD Pro with a 6ft bed 🙄
Also should’ve watched this before I went to test drive one yesterday... you guys are so on point
Why would you get a off road truck with a terrible departure Angle and long wheelbase?
Before buying my 2019 Civic Type R I test drove a Tacoma and my left knee kept rubbing against the speaker grille which hurts after awhile, it was an auto no go for me and walked away.
Early squad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great videos fellas as always.
I’m 6’1” but have the benefit of longer legs, shorter torso. I have a 17 TRD Pro so no sun roof which is also a benefit. Just fine. I love my truck. It’s definitely cramped when packed full of people. But typically it’s just me or 1 additional passenger so it works great. The truck gets better with age. I wanted something that felt like an old truck so it fits the description. This years updates should address a lot of the issues you brought up. But I definitely am a Raptor first kind’ve guy as well. This was a great step in that direction.
Old time lurker converting into a subscriber right here. You guys got me... ; )
Awesome! Thanks
I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport with the Double Cab and Short Bed in manual. I am 6'1" and my seating position feels okay to me. I think it is particularly due to not having a moon roof so I have an extra inch or two of head room. I am also used to the lower seating position because I came from a 2013 VW Golf R which also felt like I was sitting on the floor.
Beyond that, I am also glad I got the manual because I see everyone online complain about the automatic transmission. I just wish I had gone with the TRD Off-road trim instead of the sport so I could be rocking Bilstein shocks and a locking rear differential. Just means I'll have to go after market on those once I'm done paying off my loan.
Agree, 5 speed auto in my FJ is lame too 😂 super reliable though! I think that's where the slow shifts and gear hunting comes from, no need for smooth shifting that rides out the clutch packs, and holding gears making it tough on the engine. Also no point for more than 6 gears, they're built to be a rugged off-roader after all 🤷
@@manniefresh730 I love my Tacoma TRD Sport. It has been holding up well. It has been on long road trips up and down the East Coast of the US and has never given me an issue. At some point I plan to make it more off road worthy with better suspension and maybe instead an airlocker in the rear.
This is a beautiful truck. And yes, you can get it without the desert runner intake. I love the driving position in my 2017 Tacoma.
I am 6'4" and have a 2020 Tacoma TRD sport. So glad the seat tilts now because I'm barely comfortable. And I don't have a sunroof thank goodness.
I rather get TRD off-road since you can have a 6 ft bed, with the access cab. I never been offroading with more than 1 other person, or if there was 4 of us they had their own truck.
Agreed, not the best all around. But the best looking, reliable and best resale.
Reliable? How about it's chassis? It's know for cracking
Wasn't that like 10 years ago? I would imagine Toyota wouldve gone to great lengths to avoid that mistake from the 2nd gens
@@williamgattmann6525 look it up
I found the second gen recall but only some random people with minor rust for the 3rd gen? Link to your source/recall?
@@williamgattmann6525 oh sorry hahahah i just looked up my comment just replace the cracking with rusting lmao
I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma access Cab TRD sport 4x4 4.0L V6 with 15x,xxx miles. The truck has been great, reliable, useful. My only complaint with the truck is the seating position. It isn't awkward seating position. I have seen on the new 2020 Tacoma the seats are now 10-way power adjustable to fix the seating position.
I’ve got a 2017 Tacoma, bought it brand new. Now I’ve got 70,000 miles. Never felt that the seating position was bad. Wish it was electric adjustable, and wish it could be adjusted up and down, but really not as bad as many reviews say.
I’m also someone that comes from owning a 2017 Camaro SS, 2016 Ram 2500 diesel, 2014 Honda Accord, 2012 Toyota Prius. I’ve gone through a lot of vehicles.
It’s a great truck that holds value really well, if you care about re-sale value. Transmission could be better, that’s for sure. Although after the trans flash and update, it’s been better!
The Tacoma just looks and function normally but nothing exciting, except that it more updated.
More reliable than Ford, GMC, and Nissan.
I literally don't get why you guys aren't famous! These are like such good crafted videos unlike some others
I'm somewhere between 5'10 and 5'11 - I dont feel cramped or have any problems at all! I'm always surprised to hear the complaints that people have . But considering the number of people who have complained I must be in the minority... Although the truck definitely needs more power and that transmission needs to be tamed. I put the 93 octane OVtune on my truck and the transmission was remapped- so it shifts like a normal vehicle, and power at the crank is now somewhere around 320 HP and 320 ftlbs!
I own a 3rd gen tacoma and I'm also 6 foot, I can tell you now I got to lay the back of seat down so my head isn't in the roof, as far as sun visors, forget it. This truck is made for people around 5'7 or shorter.
The Tacoma looks cool but beyond that it doesn't seem very functional. Too many ergonomic compromises because of the weird proportions of the cab. Also nice throwback clip to 5K subs.
harrismi7 The cab hasn’t been designed for the North American market
The Tacoma is only for North America
Shakerhood69 right, but not correctly to fix us!
How so? Best truck I’ve owned especially in my work. You have zero knowledge
harrismi7 I’m sorry, thought you knew about the “on the floor “ seating position
I have owned three Toyota Tacoma’s and loved every one of them including the latest generation. At the end of the day it’s still a Toyota and still better than any other truck that you can find out there for reliability and fun ability. I think you guys are spoiled from testing too many fancy cars and are out of touch with reality
Yeah it's like a Doug DeMuro video. Any vehicle under $100,000 MSRP is crap. :)
nah they're biased cause the one dude owns a raptor, which isn't even in the same category. it'd be like a tacoma guy (one that isn't tall) reviewing the raptor.
I completely agree, I have a 2020 Tacoma TRD pro and I love it
People complain about the seating position im 6'3 and ur right the positioning was awful, thankfully i found these front half metal seat risers that raise the front 1 1/4 without sacrificing head room at all and i cant lie feels perfect for me evan though I' tall. I would recommend everyone to buy these risers as soon and u get ur tuck night and day difference.
I just bought a 2019 Tacoma trd pro with 15k miles on it and I love it
Drove a new Tacoma recently and felt super cramped at 6'2"
I work at the plant building Tundras and Tacomas. Getting in and out of the Tacomas is a pain in the ass. Especially with me being 6ft tall.
You need yoga.
Stretch out more Nancy.
I'm 5,5 and I just bought one and it's not perfect with the shifting but it's pretty nice driving experience and I love the tires
The Aztec is a sports car introduced by Italdesign at the 1988 Turin Motor Show. The two-seater is unique because the driver and passenger are separated, requiring the two parties to communicate electronically.

Toyota designs their vehicles like they do, so they last. Build the truck to handle 500hp, put only 278hp into it. Won't break. Unlike others, design for 500hp, put 550hp into it. Toyota has a history of being conservative when it comes to new tech, as they want their stuff to survive their vigorous testing. Just look at the other trucks out there and their reliability, it shows.
@kiki the gerbil If you go to TacomaWorld forums, they're making a Turbo kit for the Tacoma now, that's handling that much HP w/o an issue. Might wanna do a little research before spurting off what you don't actually know.
Not anymore
So what you’re saying is I can be uncomfortable for 300k miles?
I never understood the complaints about the seating position. I'm 6'2 and I have plenty of room.
The auto transmission is crap though. I wish I could've found a manual when I bought mine.
13:17 When you pass some gas in the truck and need to roll down the windows. :D
