    The optional snorkel will not let you go into deeper water. It is meant to prevent dirt and sand from being sucked into the intake.

    • @JustinAbroad
      @JustinAbroad 5 лет назад +9

      You can definitely go in deeper water than normally without worrying. But people with snorkals don't drive their trucks like boats..

      Tidwell the snorkel is not intended for underwater use. You may be right about better fording depths but who knows by how much.

    Thanks for the review Joe! I have a ‘19 TRD Off Road, love it. Cost about $12K less than the pro. Put wheels, tires, Faux Pro grill, black out emblems, bed cover, and tinted windows. Don’t worry about the cheap rod to hold the hood up, it’s a Toyota, won’t have to be opened to much.

      @@rsenior7140 resale it's the king. Nobody can deny it. But you are also paying allot more up front. And discounts are little to none. As far as reliability its not any better then a Frontier Pro 4X. Drive train is better on the Nissan with its trusty VQ40 24 valve DOHC 4 liter with honest 5 speed automatic with OD. The taco's 3.5 with its gear searching, hard shifting, early shifting active learning 6 speed is a hot mess. It might get a few MPG's more then the Nissan but they can have it. The 2020 will be better with finally offering power seats and get this, the ability to raise the seat! Plus they will offer LED lights and android auto and Apple carplay. But its still going to keep the whimpy 3.5/6 speed. Many buy it on looks. But that low roof line puts you sitting on the floor with your legs straight out. I so much prefer my Nissan Pro 4X seats (8 way power) where you sit higher. Visibility is much better in the Nissan and ergonomics are exponentially better. You really feel like you in a truck whereas the taco feels more like a car. You compromise everything for the better looks of the Tacoma. When looking I test drove the toyota two times because of all the hype this truck always gets. But after driving the Ranger, Colorado, Frontier, and Tacoma I have to say the toyota impressed me the least. But its the best looking out of the bunch. That's about it.

      @@HiPlains1 Great! Glad you enjoy your Nissan! I know dealerships have knocked thousands of dollars off of them, so I'm sure you got a nice deal. Me? Great truck overall. I've had mine for over a month and couldn't be happier. Could definitely be better as the gas mileage isn't the best, the JBL system is okay nothing grand, could use better tires with more aggressive thread, better headlights, it gets jammed changing from 4L to 2wd sometimes. One of the lower points in the underbody is the catback exhaust pipe near the catalytic converter which has scraped a few times offroading. The suspension is amazing, way better than the bilstein on the offroad trim, safety features have saved me a few times from crashing, handles like a car, very responsive, and the steering ratio is great especially when parallel parking, approach and breakover angles are really good. For people bashing on the rear drum brakes, less expensive to fix and last longer before replacing which means it cost less for you. Trust me this truck stops on a dime in dirt and asphalt. Great articulation and the crawl control will definitely get you out of some tough terrain. Just my 2 cents...if you have the money to spend on one go for it. The zr2 and gladiator may be "better" depending on what you want it for, but Toyota has made this true/tested truck for those who want a fun and reliable vehicle. Remember the more technology the more its bound to break and more expensive to fix.

Bumper to bumper warranty,3 free oil changes, it had 13,000 miles on her already took her offroad 3 time in the last 3 weekends tested all of the different off road 4x4 functions freaking love the rear lockers, and crawl control feature, it already save my ass several times lol, I only have 2 complaints about my truck in the first 2 weeks driving it did notice the transmission did shift the gears pretty weird mention it to my Toyota dealer about the tsb update, " I found out searching online" took her in. After trans update I notice a difference instantly rep told me it might still feel weird for the first few hundred miles, but the truck trans. will adapt to my driving habit, like I was saying after the trans software update free of charge of course instant improvements in performance of the gears shifting,2nd negative the stock tires not impressed will replace when time. This truck replaced my 85,000 miles 07' frontier 2wd LE auto, crew cab awesome truck as well, still have her, but passing her down to one of my kids, oh one more thing I only paid $35,000 for it I was discouraged about the price future payment cost, but soon after realizing this deal was just to good to pass up! Thanks for reading my long boring story have a great day and HAPPY & SAFE trailing all!

      @@RaitisRides I actually have a 2009 Tacoma SR5 prerunner 4 door with custom off road wheels and that thing's a beast. 4.0 V6 it has plenty of torque for a mid size, so reliable and another thing I have like 4 horses and I can fit like 15-20 50Lb bags of feed and about 7/8 square bales of hay in the bed and it's still a short bed. It's crazy that I'm like 5'11.3 qt/6'0 about the same height as you and with the seat all the way back I fit in it pretty good. Does that tacoma TRD Pro have any legroom? I've heard it's a little more spacious than my gen Tacoma. I'm thinking about trading it for a Voodoo Blue Tacoma Limited in the future. Anyways Does it have good legroom?

Mine has the snorkel but its not a snorkel as its not for water and it is a factory not dealer install so that 1/4 is formed with the hole from factory..... A bit dumb but i got a killer deal.

    Personally I think I bet got a better deal with my Nissan pro-4x at 35k fully loaded. This taco might have all the whoopie do's but it still has that wimpy 3.5 and gutless Atkinson 6 speed automatic. I'll take the Nissan VQ40 4 liter over that any day of the week. Only the forerunner still decent with the old 4 liter and 5-speed automatic made in Japan.

    Love the review, I want a truck to get more storage space for things like gun cases etc and want to be able to off road. While the GM family + Jeep offer more off-road versions (+the new Ranger Raptor) I just dislike the way they look. The Canyon looks the most normal but most of them are way too slanted in the front, They almost look closer to a Honda Ridgeline. I think the Tacoma has the nicest proportions and for that I am willing to pay the extra +4k.

    Ford could have a suitable similar truck if they make a Ranger Raptor, and Chevy has the Colorado ZR2, which is nice, especially the diesel if you want extra low end oomph and power for towing, but the Toyota TRD Pro is refined and reliable, though lacking in the infotainment tech area. The 2020 TRDs are supposed to have the latest, including the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, etc.
    If I lived in parts of my island near the ocean, where I would be encountering all the inclement weather, storms, and flooding that happens from time to time, or especially lived in the neighbor islands, I would definitely get one of these, or a TRD Pro 4Runner. The snorkel would be nice for like our recent storm flooding spate...
    Generally everything well thought out and executed.
    I just would probably get the Rav4 TRD or Adventure, because I want something smaller, and living more in the city, I wouldn't need all this off roading gear much, except for the small grass and gravel in lined driveway at my new place, but very minor.

    All that racing pedigree but they won't enter a race against the ZR2 (Mint 400).
    The Tacoma may be the king of sales numbers but the king of midsize off roaders and best bang for the buck is the ZR2.
    I have always liked Toyota trucks but the reality is the Tacoma is outdated. Hopefully they come back swinging in 2020.
