Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO the BEST Tacoma yet?

- The 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO is an old school truck with a few new features for this year model. For most people, if it has a Toyota badge, it is worth the money. However, what about those of us that are not sold on the "reliability price tax"? I think this truck may still peak your interest! Check out my full in-depth review and comment what you think!

Sorry for the lack of uploads everyone! Thanks for tuning in, it's great to be back! Hope you all enjoyed the review! Comment what vehicles I should review next!
Can I give you feedback?
This is one of the best reviews I have seen. However,
1. You didn't show how rear seats (both two pieces) can be fully folded down to get more storage space.
2. Your GoPro on your forehead makes me car sick. You need steady cameras to do better reviews. Moving camera is a bad choice.
last, I would like to request the same review, but a comparison with the new 4Runner. How they can be used for different applications. ground clearance differences, ride quality. . etc..
Thank you and hope this feedback helps :)
Rolled my eyes at ANOTHER Tacoma review but this is so much better than i thought, so nice and in depth and informative, great video!
KC OG Honored to hear that! Thank you!
Also great image quality and the voice recording quality during POVs is the best I've ever heard.
KC OG right better than all those other vids that just say basics. Good video
you are literally the only person to move from Tx to Ca in 2020... Love your content btw, hope the move went well
He moved before the shutdown...
Selling my 2012 Taco TRD Off-road after 237,000 with ZERO problems. Picking up my new White PRO tomorrow, excited!
How do you like it so far?
Sterling Wilson Bro i really want a tacoma but my dad doesn’t like toyota so i guess he’ll be getting a gmc or ram for us both to drive.
Tylernol Hope your dad likes repair bills
Wow this is the best car review video I've ever seen. Great camera angels and you talked to everything. Excellent work!
Thank you so much!
I've seen a lot of Tacoma reviews, but this is by far the best Tacoma review I have ever seen all around. Amazing video.
I know this has been up for a while but I gotta say this was one of the better reviews I've watched on the Tacoma. I really like the mix of POV, on camera work and the shots of the truck working on the trail. keep up the good work!
I think this truck is a beast. I would take this over a Bison and a Lariat any day. Toyota is known for their reliability, and is probably the most reliable auto manufacturer around. That truck handled offroading pretty well! Great quality video as always!
Dillon Blair Thanks Dillon! 👊👊
The Bison has a bunch of issues being reported. I got my TRD Pro in November. I absolutely love this truck. Its actually better off road than on and thats saying something.
@@okstever WHAT ISSUES?
Frank Nowakowski Well, knowing Chevy, everything.
Used to be reliable. Not since 2016 can Toyota make that claim with the Tacoma’s. The tundras, yes, but the 3rd gen tacoma is a complete failure.
By far the best well spoken review ive heard. I already knew all the information, but i was so impressed with how you delivered it! Nice job!
This is an awesome review on an amazing truck. Tacoma’s are the best small trucks with a solid reputation. Enjoy it for many years.
Hi Forrest. You did a wonderful job on your commentary, Your enunciation was spot on. I appreciate the attention to detail on every aspect of the truck, whereas other's would leave out, you kept my interest every step of the way. I liked it when you put forth the extra effort to stop the truck and get out, walk around and show the viewers the articulation of the truck while parked on the off-road terrain. You are a role model for future up and coming Forrest wanna be's. I wish you the best in your career, Keep up the good work. As far as the TDR Pro, after watching your review, I'm so motivated I'm gonna buy two of them! Two thumbs up!
When comes to Trucks, I will ONLY OWN Toyota!!! My first Truck was a 1989 Toyota Pick UP 4 Cylinder. I put a lift Kit on it and Off Road Tires. Used it as a Delivery Truck for my Family's Printing Business. I drove that Truck 370,000 Miles before selling it. Then I bought a 1994 Toyota 4X4 X-Cab V-6 Five Speed 3.0 Liter Engine. This was my Dream Truck until I got Rear Ended.
The best review I have seen for this truck. One TRD Pro available in Hawaii and I am hoping its still available. This will be my 7th Toyota Tacoma over the years. I have never had any problems except my 1983 Toyota Truck, a real rust bucket. Thank you for the review.
you moved from TX? damn, 1/2 the state of CA is trying to get to TX :D
500,000 on my 06 Tacoma...…………….no issues
come on?
@@mikeprobst1839 yes, honestly....just basic wear and tear items............only changed plugs 3 times, regular air and oil filter changes,,,,,,,,never even serviced tranny, transfer box, rear or front diff fluid etc etc etc
Really? I have a 2006... was thinking of upgrading to tundra.... maybe I will wait....
It's a Toyota lol
I’m half way there 271,000 on an 03
Love that “Forrest” Green lol, but This video looked like a lot of fun to make!
Sean Taylor I see what you did there! 😁
It was fun! Glad you stopped by to watch!

Welcome back Forrest! I hope all is well in Cali and I can’t wait to come visit 😁👍

Bless you Forrest and your dope ass POV driving. POV + outside shot at 23:40 is god tier. Keep up the amazing work man. Would love to see some night time pov driving to see interior lights in more of your reviews.
This is an excellent review... Thank you for taking the time to do it..
Hey man, you do a fantastic job at all of your reviews. Very in depth. Secondly, you are nuts for moving to CA. I’m from LA and I can’t wait to leave this cesspool. However, our weather is amazing so enjoy that at least. Cheers
Hey bill how about moving back to Rocky Point...I meant Little Rock oops 🙊
just saw your land cruiser vid before this one and storing a small pistol in the trunk lid, now storing a small rifle under the tacoma seats lol love it! i'm sorry you moved to california, can't store rifles and pistols like that anymore :(
Yay, Forrest! So glad to see you back! Congrats on the move to Cali.
Can't wait to see what is in store for your channel this year. Keep up the excellent work. Really liked the style of this vid, and the color of this Tacoma is WOW. ;)
That snorkel is HIDEOUS !!! How many people are actually gonna use / need that ?!
It was for dusty climates not water.
Overall, the common consensus seems to be that the trd off-road package has the best value. I got a 2019 off road right before the 2020 models came out. Dealers were trying to sell their 2019 inventory tacos so the deals were great. $39k truck for $31 is what i got
One of the best reviews in a long time, compared to other reviews! Great JOB!
I would love to see a comparison between a Toyota Helix vs Tacoma
Reliability and quality is the name of the game, people that can afford this truck don’t mind paying 50K for a nearly forever truck. There’s Jeep guy, Chevy guy, dodge guy, and ford guy, you won’t change their tastes and preferences, I’m a quality and reliability guy, so it’s a no brainer, it’s why I purchased my 2018 TRD PRO. If a midsized truck will suits your needs, and you need it to last 10 plus years without any problems whatsoever then this truck is for you. Just to be fair and objective, I’d love it if there was more space within the cab, especially for my passengers riding in the rear seat, it’s a cramped ride, but you know that when you make the purchase, and if it doesn’t suit your needs then consider another vehicle. The size is just right for me, it does everything I need it to do very well, and it’ll do whatever I need it to do for the next decade and beyond that if necessary, it’s not the fastest, it’s not the biggest, it doesn’t have the most cabin space, or the some of the features other midsized trucks have, but it comes awfully close and it’ll still be on the road when it’s competitors are scrap metal at the local landfill, you can bank on Tacoma reliability and quality, go get yourself one!
Great vid, sick truck.
At the end your complaint about wanting more power as a daily driver is already addressed by the ETC power function, which you mistranslated earlier.
At 13:57 you breeze by the ETC PWR button and say "exterior power", which isn't correct. It engages ETC power which adjusts the transmission to be more responsive and hold higher revs, ideally making the truck quicker and more fun to drive.
🤘🏻
My apologies! I'll have to try it out again! Thanks for reaching out!
Welcome back! Hoping to continue seeing content from you.
Ruu Thank you! I have a lot lined up so get ready! 😃
We are living in a good time - Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado/Canyon, and Ranger. When it comes to mid-size trucks, you can't go wrong with any of them. Driving on and enjoy! :D
Tacos are great trucks and run great. I’m getting my dads 02 this week since he got a tundra. Truck runs amazing he got it when i was a kid and now I’m getting it myself. Tacos are great.
One of the best reviews I've seen. Thank you.
Wonderful, descriptive, and thorough review, thank you
It’s the only green truck on the market for all new trucks in 2020. Major selling point for me personally.
As a TRD Pro owner, I can agree that it needs a little more power for merging in traffic. As for the suspension being not as good as the Multimatic dssv, it really depends on what you like. In my opinion, offroading and comfort aren't really supposed to go hand in hand. They're too comfy...been in a Zr2 plenty of times (btw good luck replacing them $$$). The TRD Pro can be mellow cruising around town but dang take it off the road and it adapts to its environment just right. Sometimes it feels like its really just meant to be in the wild. Call it a biased opinion but you can't go wrong with a Toyota. Great review btw...I'd say thats very mild offroading you did but it shows what the truck can do. Try Hungry Valley next time for any offroading reviews since you're in CA.
My favorite truck hands down. I was contemplating this or the 4Runner. Both are awesome but in the end I went with the 4Runner since I have a lot of gear I wanted protected inside the vehicle but man I love the Tacoma. Really want one to go along with my 4runner one day.
First time seeing your channel. Excellent review. I think you hit just about everything.
Loved this review! The backseat space was my main concern and you just confirmed it for me...thanks!
I have the 2019 one love it so far got it in January 🔥🔥
Can’t beat Toyota reliability. Great review, thanks.
"it's a 5ft bed, so you could probably fit as much stuff as you could fit in a 5tf bed" muchness of math 😂
The lockable front box is also good for hunters who travel in zones where your ammunition must be "secured".
beside the truck...i love the color remind me of the good days in the service.
The terrible quality of the cameras is the reason I didn't get the optional advanced tech package on my 2020 Offroad. I'll probably add an aftermarket front view cam at some point. I like the truck, but it definitely has some annoyances that a $40,000 truck should not have (gear hunting transmission, driveline vibrations, etc), but I do expect it to be reliable over the long-term. I'm planning to keep this thing forever and set it up with a slide-in camper and other tools for moderate overlanding and just general traveling. I've owned a Colorado and 2 Frontiers over the years and, even with its annoyances, the Tacoma is the best option, overall. That said, the Frontier Pro4x I had was a very close 2nd, simply due to its outstanding value for money and solid reliability of its own.
Your review style is great..... much better than other car reviewers..
Glad you think so! Hope to see you around again!
if they put legit A/Ts or M/Ts on this in a bigger size, this would be more of a beast than it already is.
Josh Tlynn Right? I wish Toyota would just put the Nitto’s and rear disk breaks from the 4Runner TRD Pro onto the Tacoma TRD Pro, and offer the Tacoma’s manual trans and desert air intake on the 4Runner.
I remember Toyota having a lot of problems with the green in the past rolling the dice buying a green one to see if it still holds its shine 10 years from now
I went back and forth for over a year between this and a ZR2. Ended up going for a ZR2 bc the Pro price is not justifiable and the rear seats are tiny. Sure people will say its more reliable but at the end of the day, I got the diesel for 8k cheaper. The chances of me having to spend 8k to fix my ZR2 is highly unlikely.
The diesel option is hard to beat. Plus diesels are usually more reliable than their gas siblings.
Am 14..... looks like I have 2 years to get 50k. Great video, you made me switch from wanting a sedan to a truck
Thanks for the thorough review. I was wondering what the back seat would look like when they opened. Most videos don't show little details. I'm thinking of renting this vehicle and it's very helpful.
Great review this is my next vehicle
Great video, I'm looking at the off-road!
I owned a diesel ZR2 for 2 years. Nice truck, but way to many issues, spent about 4 months during the 2 years in the shop for warranty work.
Own a manual 2021 TRD PRO and couldn't be happier. I dont see or have experience any of the negatives that I've heard mentioned in the few negative reviews of this truck.
Thanks for the review! Now I know I want to buy this truck.
Nice review bud! great work.
Enjoyed that review
24:03 - Why you get a manual. Took me 4ever to find my 2020 mgm trd off road standard trans.
Good, honest, review. Much appreciated. Accurate pros and cons. Great job, Thanks. New to these videos, Love Yours. Have you reviewed a Tundra?
Awesome review, loved seeing the off road capabilities. google the Ect button, it’s and electronic controlled transmission button, not an obvious use for many.
The ECT button is not exterior power. ECT stands for electronically controlled transmission. It changes the shift points in the transmission allowing for higher RPMs before the truck shifts. It’s useful for getting onto the high way passing cars or going up a steep grade. However being that you’ll be running a higher RPM it will decrease your MPG’s a bit.
David Huebner Thanks for clarifying! I actually checked the owners manual and didn’t see anything (or I missed it somewhere). I just assumed that’s what it was. Glad to know it has a use!
Also increases throttle response as per Toyota.
I have the same truck (2020) trd pro in magnetic gray metallic. I took the stock Goodyear’s. Off and replaced the with Goodyear Duratracs. What a difference the more aggressive tires make.
Rock at 22:10 is like ok I wanna have some fun in that Tacoma Trd Pro
I gave you a thumbs up bc you do good work. Toyota reliability is no secret, it's no.#1 anywhere you go or what you buy. I owned a Chevy ZR2 and it was the worse vehicle I ever owned in terms of reliability. I bought it brand new and it went to the dealership several times with driveline issues. I finally got tired of spending my time at the dealership with repairs (Which they gladly and quickly did kudos to them) but it just got old. So I traded it in and got a 19 JLU Rubicon and believe it or not it is one of the finest vehicles I ever owned. I am not going to bash it up like some Jeepers do so I am hoping for decent reliability so far so good. I wanted a Tacoma but the drive train is so weak it was a deal-breaker for me. A truck mid-sized or not needs to have some gumpf to it and that 3.5 Atkinsons engine just does not do it for me. When Toyota puts something different in there I may re-visit cause I really love the Toyota reliability and the beautiful looks of this Taco.
Great job on the review very informative. Not sure if you did or not just remember if you jump out of the vehicle on an incline set the parking brake and try not to stand behind it definitely don't want to take a chance of it chasing you down the hill Be Safe out there! 😎🤙
The Kevlar does not do much off-road. This stock tire is a three ply tire which is no good for real rock puncture resistance performance . I did puncture my OEM Kevlar tire while off-roading and now have a real off-road tire with Falken Wildpeak AT3W 6 ply tire.
Fantastic Review! thank you sir,
The tailgate lock is meant to prevent theft of the (very expensive) tailgate.
That non-functional hood scoop begs for a manual version of this with an aftermarket supercharger. This could become a bit of a hooner.
Great review Sr.
I did not like the army green at first. Now I have one on order.
Ok. When in 4lo turn on terrain select to rock and dirt. Throttle response is really good. Ect button is not for external power
I have always like the Tacoma's appearance, but I never thought it was a practical truck for what it costs. It's funny how a lot of reviewers of this truck, seem to force themselves to like it because they don't seem committed to certain aspects of it such as lack of space, cheap material, not fast enough, janky camera....for 50k?
Congrats on the move, we gonna miss u here in Texas tho, and the truck that I also feel is more expensive and not that much more of a truck is the gladiator Rubicon, that thing is almost 60k, I couldn't believe the stricker price and u had to pay for LED's safety features and all of that. And about the materials, yeah it cheap lol, but this truck is meant to go offroad where u and the interior would probably get pretty dirty and all that plastic would be so easy clean.
Iboy Dafreshest Thanks! I miss it there too.
Well the Gladiator is kind of like the “Porsche” in this category. Anyone who is truly considering one and has it in their top 2 choices are going to go for it because there is nothing else like it. It’s just one of those vehicles that you buy because you like it and you don’t need an excuse other than that. It can tow more than this and has a better payload but that’s only in very specific lower end trim levels. Once you go Rubicon, it’s a bit more capable than this (I say a bit because it has a much longer wheelbase than this Tacoma) with the same towing and almost the same payload specs for $20K more.
Dream truck right there!
Dang, I’m surprised to see that your Pro didn’t come with the Pro intake badging!
There’s nothing Toyota could do to justify $50K for that truck.
Moved from TX to CA? Well, at least you saved on the U-haul rates, if applicable; the vast majority are going in the opposite direction.
Try the ect pwr, button if you want faster response and more horsepower fell.
Great review!
Nice, but the dealers mark the Pro up quite a bit.
Good explanation an video. Thanks
That color should be offered every year for tacomas, tundras, sequioas, and 4 runners.
It will be for 2021.
How's California and congrats on 60k!
Thanks! I'm loving it dude, the weather is beautiful! I miss Texas though....especially Whataburger!
@@forrestsautoreviewsofficial I can see Whataburger from my office...

almost out of gas,lol ,, good review I have one and love it.. Is this your truck ??
I’m looking to buy this! Same spec!
275,000 miles on my v8 04 4Runner
Toyota makes a great product but for $50,000 I want you to show me the money..show me what makes this truck worth $50,000 when I can buy a serious truck a 2020 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 4 Door Long bed dually with a Cummins Diesel with 1,000 ft lb of torque for $49,000...what's toyota doing that cost consumers $50k. I know its 2 different segments of trucks but let's be honest the Taco can't really do much besides light off-road use which 90% of people never do.
I agree. They are trying to make up for the recalls over the years. And more recalls are coming up this year. Can't believe people are actually falling for these outrageous prices. SMH.
@@agigaletua1009 Don't get me wrong I enjoy Toyotas. I just found a beautiful 2011 Toyota Sequoia Platinum white, perfect tan leather, towing package with 178,000 miles...still asking $25,000. WTF.
Hope that your truck the way you revved it
Resale value is why this is worth 50k. The vast majority of tacomas will be sold long before they reach 200,000mi.
Hello The msrp is about 50k but I went to see one and the dealership mark up is insane. I’m In the Bay Area and a Trd pro is going for 68k for the army green. The apr is insane as well 5-6% is pretty high. I wish someone would make a video about how realistic it is to obtain a trd pro. It’s nearly impossible.

1:20 they see 200 - 300k miles? for tacomas? this isn't the yaris.
Lol you must be new here. try 500k miles auto, and 800k if manual trans
You can actually get that many miles on a Yaris. The weird thing about them (also the prius) is that the odometer stops at 300,000 miles
Why does manual have a longer life than auto?

You should get a wireless mic, would help with audio.
wish it were army green flat color then i would put a star on the hood
After watching your review I am no longer interested in purchasing this truck, which I appreciate since it’s $50k. Thanks so much!
I will never understand console mounted shifters, and e brakes in automatic trucks. Look at the space it wastes. I kinda get the e brake being that they have a manual version and it makes engineering more simple.
ECT is not exterior power. It's electronically controlled transmission.
