And weirdly enough, the 4runner feels more like a truck sitting upright and being able to see. You can see in the tacoma but it feels more like sitting in a car cause the floor is so high so your legs are more straight and outward and up with less headroom and the non telescoping steering wheel compared to the 4runner which has that and always had the adjustable powered seats and telescoping steering wheel while sitting higher up with more headroom but I’m sure if I bought the tacoma I would’ve gotten used to it by now but it’s def not as comfortable as the 4Runner.

@@DanEdmunds Quick question. I have a 2015 Tacoma TRD off road 4x4 that I bought earlier this year with 50k miles for $25k. My idea was to buy this 2015 to hold me over until the 2020 came out. How would you compare the 2020 with the 3.5 liter versus Toyotas 4.0 liter that the old Tacomas and 4runners still have? Wondering if will I regret the upgrade.
There is already a recent TSB that improves shift points quite a bit, but hopefully they'll release another with the improvements from the 2020 for the older models as well! Sounds like they may have made some major progress (I don't want to get ahead of myself and say "gotten it right" as I'd imagine there is likely still more room for additional improvements).
These are some great upgrades. I drove a 1993 Toyota truck for three years and I always hated the seating position. Always felt like you were sitting on the floor. Glad they finally addressed that. Love the Army Green too. Will the 4Runner get that color??
I had a 2012 trd sport and I've always thought that the Tacoma is made for less than 6ft tall person. This current ones don't feel any bigger, taller, or wider. However, your 93 and a 2019 are worlds apart.
@@squidusn71 Have you driven a '93 Toyota truck? Granted, it was a 2WD, extended cab long bed, V6. But my mother drives a 2006 Tacoma (yes, at 76 YO, and it's a 5-speed manual, 2WD), and the similarities are still there. I sat in a 2016 Tacoma and I got the same vibe of sitting on the floor. The cab looks squashed compared to my '16 Frontier. Wonder why Toyota addressed the seating position? Granted, for running around town it's not an issue, but I daily drove that '93 60 miles a day. It was horrendous. I don't know why Tacos are so smooshed. Yes, they sit high with the suspension, but inside it's cramped and low slung. Even owners know that and complain about it. Hopefully the 2020 seat height adjustments will help. I'd love to own one but my Frontier was $24750 (Desert Runner) and the cheapest Taco was approaching $35K in 2016. So I went with the Frontier and couldn't be happier (I don't need 4WD).
My two favorite vehicles are the Tacoma and the Jeep. I bought the new Jeep JLU with the new 2.0L turbo and I love it. It has great pep and the fuel economy is not to shabby either. I average 22-25 in the city if I keep my foot out of the turbo, but even when I do put my foot it in I still avg 21 mpg easily. Love the new upgrades Toyota did with this green, I really wish Toyota would put a 2.0L Turbo with an 8 speed tranny in it cause in my Jeep JL this package works great. I have no complaints about it. I love the Taco and when i trade in two more years (I trade every 3 no matter what) I hope to get the Taco if they have a new power train package, which I know is just a wish and probably not a reality. Still I might get it either way just to change driving packages. Great times we live in!!!
Love the JLU, too. In fact, our long-term JLUR, a V6, just clicked past 36,000 miles. And I really like that 2.0T engine, too. I wish we hadn't been in such a rush to get our JLUR as soon as it went on sale. Great choice.
I went ahead and got the 2019 trd- pro a week ago. the updates weren't enough to keep me from getting a pro for 3K off MSRP and a great trade in, plus a free clear bra. Now , if we were talking rear disks, I would have waited. The cameras would have been nice, but honestly would probably never use it, just like I didnt in my '17 raptor.

I'm so glad I waited for the 2020. Of course, these new features should have already been standard on an absurdly expensive $40000+ truck, but Toyota knows they've got the best midsize truck, so they're gouging the hell out of buyers. It kind of pisses me off, but then again, it is the best offering in the segment. I'm not planing to buy one until summer 2020, hopefully there will be some kind of deals by then....we are heading into a recession, after all, not that I'm hoping for that, but it's coming regardless and it may lead to price reductions if sales drop off.

i like the look of the new tacoma but we can not get them in the uk as you will know we have the hilux which is a really that is a real no frills tough truck i have had them for years and none of them has ever broken down but i would like to try a tacoma
I'd love to have one my only issue is the price of these new trucks. They arent even full size trucks and this one is easily pushing the 40k mark. Kinda starts to defeat the purpose of a simple midsize truck if it's so expensive that you'll be afraid to actually go use it how its meant to be used for fear of damaging it. So expensive.
I'm holding out my judgment until I test drive the 2020. I have a 2015 with the 4.0 liter engine. The 3.5 liter is not the problem, its the pathetic gearing ratios it comes with stock. The engineer of the the 2020 model said it was addressed in the refresh. We shall see.
so are you waiting for an electric motor? dont expect more gas motor power next round. I agree tho, I'd love a v8 in a Tacoma size truck, putting out 350 to 400HP would be perfect.

Waiting patiently for mine..TRD Offroad in Calvary Blue. Once they start hitting the lots I'll be a happy camper. Great vid, nice to finally see a little more of the upgrades that are coming
10:02 reminds me of the "I'm in danger" meme.
Dat green is sick though 🙃
It's excellently executed pandering to target demographic. It's tactial af 😂. Perfect for all the "Operators" in Lake Forest.
I wanna take my 2016 TRD Off-Road Taco to MOAB so bad!!!
I wish they chose the 4.0 engine instead of the 3.5
i wish the engine was a normal otto cycle and not an atkinson cycle with that sluggish transmission
So aside from cosmetic and comfort, the only notable update is the new tuning of the shift points for the trans... but the front camera is kinda sweet
Soon to be in a battle field in the Middle East.
Lol
The Hilux and 79 Series Land Cruiser will be but not the Tacoma.
Can I take my truck in and get the update on the transmission?
I'm not sure. I'll see if I can find out.
My tacoma has to be the 6 speed... it's just my thing.
These are some great upgrades. I drove a 1993 Toyota truck for three years and I always hated the seating position. Always felt like you were sitting on the floor. Glad they finally addressed that. Love the Army Green too. Will the 4Runner get that color??
Chuck Cribbs yes!!!
The seats adjusts now and there’s apple car play? I’m heading back to the dealership.
@@DanEdmunds Thank-you sir!
From a Raptor to a Tacoma???? Bro, you where already at the top... it's not even a lateral move. Hope you got great trade in value on the Raptor.
Really hoping they fixed the gear hunting transmission issues. Kinda worried about picking a Tacoma over the 4Runner with past years issues.
Bring back the FJ
Agreed, just make the windows a bit bigger next time.
I agree, I regret getting rid of mine.
You're one of the few that wants to bring back the fanny pack of 4x4's.
@@conquest562 if the FJ was a fanny pack, that would make the Jeep Wrangler an unreliable fanny pack that falls apart at the seams. I guess you'd be correct, in that case!
My dealer just put in an order for a Tacoma TRD PRO with a Standard Transmission. They expressed that there may be some push back from Toyota on a standard transmission! Never thought the day would come where a standard transmission would be a "special order."
Must be the area. Pretty common in CO.
Rear drum brake performance?
Impressions?
Thank you for the excellent review on the 2020 Tacoma TRD offroad
I'm so glad I waited for the 2020. Of course, these new features should have already been standard on an absurdly expensive $40000+ truck, but Toyota knows they've got the best midsize truck, so they're gouging the hell out of buyers. It kind of pisses me off, but then again, it is the best offering in the segment. I'm not planing to buy one until summer 2020, hopefully there will be some kind of deals by then....we are heading into a recession, after all, not that I'm hoping for that, but it's coming regardless and it may lead to price reductions if sales drop off.
We’re not remotely heading into a recession. NONE of the traditional indicators corroborate that position. Stop listening to MSNBC
@@2011buddylee Haha I worked for GM for 15 years and have owned many GM vehicles, including a previous gen Colorado. They are unreliable garbage, plain and simple. I had so many problems with that truck that I spent THOUSANDS of dollars fixing it over the years. You need a mental exam if you think ANY General Motors product can compete with Toyota, when it comes to quality and reliability. Get real!
@@2011buddylee You have your experience and I have mine. Who's experience do you think matters more to me?
@@2011buddylee Jesus you really don't know when to quit. Let it go ffs. It's not that serious.
That was a prototype version with painted fender flares.
Do we know if it will be in voodoo blue again? I like the green but voodoo is so unique
Aye, Voodoo Blue is pretty neat.. but no, the 4 colors for 2020 are: Super White, Midnight Black Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Army Green.
i like the look of the new tacoma but we can not get them in the uk as you will know we have the hilux which is a really that is a real no frills tough truck i have had them for years and none of them has ever broken down but i would like to try a tacoma
Wonder why that Tacoma TRD Pro has body coloured fender flares instead if the black that usually come with the Pro??
I'd love to have one my only issue is the price of these new trucks. They arent even full size trucks and this one is easily pushing the 40k mark. Kinda starts to defeat the purpose of a simple midsize truck if it's so expensive that you'll be afraid to actually go use it how its meant to be used for fear of damaging it. So expensive.
They are expensive but Toyota can't build them fast enough to meet the demand so they have little reason to drop the price.
21st Century midsize is what full-size was prior to this Century. Cost just followed the upsizing of modern vehicles
nickster105 closer to $43k
nickster105 if you’re looking for a full-size truck with the same features as the tacoma you’re probably pushing 60-70k
I want the green one. But 3.5 engine? No way
I'm holding out my judgment until I test drive the 2020. I have a 2015 with the 4.0 liter engine. The 3.5 liter is not the problem, its the pathetic gearing ratios it comes with stock. The engineer of the the 2020 model said it was addressed in the refresh. We shall see.
The pro doesn’t have the black fenders anymore?
Good question. The white TRD Pro shown at Chicago auto show did have black fenders. This amy green one didn't though...
Bryan Lonborg I don’t like it with paint matched genders. Makes it just look like a sport.
Yes it still has black fender flares.
But does the exhaust still run under one of the frame cross members? lol, no one ever mentions this
Very good point!
yep!
Doesn't matter because it still sounds like what it is, underpowered V6.
Ehh I will hold onto my 19 Tacoma before I jump to the 2020.
Calabasas Direct true nothing big deal
I will hold on to my 2010. These new trucks are like mortgages
The truck looks sick, but I rather wait another 3-4 years for the 4th gen. This 3.5 engine is lame
Getchu a T4R...
@@nawmean or a 2nd gen tacoma with the same engine as the 4runner
TRUTH 👊
so are you waiting for an electric motor? dont expect more gas motor power next round. I agree tho, I'd love a v8 in a Tacoma size truck, putting out 350 to 400HP would be perfect.
@@thenavigator5889 Americans are hilarious. 270bhp is massive over here.
Why are trucks so expensive 😭
Because they keep cramming more and more computer gizmos in them
Exactly, that's what every reviewer says the truck needs, more tech, tech is expensive, but for some reason these guys cant live without it.
Lease it Toyota has the best leasing program of all brands
So these are now around 50k? What all do you get for the extra 12k? Shocks, skid plate, black rims, leather seats? I smell a rip-off...
Jerlemi2 same goes for the raptor trail boss and rebel id still buy em though
Better technology package, moon roof, more camera 8-inch screen.
eddie saninocencio yeah that’s on most every vehicle on the road now.
What’s the location that place is beautiful
Interior looking proper now. One question: is there a manual option?
There is!
That trail camera WILL be on the 6th gen 2021 4runner.
so whats the difference between the TRD Off-Road and the TRD Pro??? thats they only reason I clicked this video. Didn't realize you were only going to talk about the Pro
Does the off-road come with the front and side cameras as well? Or just the Pro?
If you need cameras for offroading, stay your ass home.
Yes. Optional
Is there really any real benefit to the PRO vs Off-Road. If its just shocks you can pretty much get TRD Pro take Offs for the cheap if thats all it is.
Does the TRD pro comes with heated steering wheel, heated seats, power sliding rear window, forward collision mitigation?
Squid Usn yes
No heated steering wheel. Heated seats come with the Premium package. Power sliding rear window and forward collision mitigation (Safety Sense) are standard.
9:15 “Kinnamatic dynamic suspension system” lol KDSS
I think he meant to say kinetic haha
10:01 "heh" lol
