If you pause the video at 1:28 (you may have to slow it to .25 speed, then pause), you will see the supplements that Frank Zane was really using. Rheo Blair's, look at the labels. Inside the little cups, the black capsules are Soybro, which was a germ oil capsule that had the heavy lipids removed. Consisted of wheat germ oil, soy oil, and rice bran oil, but was concentrated so the result was large doses of policosanol and gamma oryzanol. The pink and white capsule was calcium plus. The sort of yellow-gray one was C-Bio Plus, which was vitamin C with bioflavanoids and rose hips. This was not the whole regimen, as there were other items in the program, notably Liver Extract, B-Complex, and Choline Plus. But anyway you can see by the labels that Zane was taking Blair's, not Weider or Hoffman.

I think that's what is killing so many young guys these days...with social media, they feel that have to look contest ready 24/7 year round...because they are posting every day. Back in the golden era, they juiced for several months prior to a major contest and then cycled off for the rest of the year. Young guys today are taking 3 or 4 years worth of dosage in a single year, without giving their bodies a chance to recover from the drugs.
Love the golden era characters! Not just these top stars but anyone who was a part of that era. A time memorialized in pumping iron and lived by the fortunate ones old enough to have had this experience .
I love watching more unseen footage that was captured during the filming of Pumping Iron. I live in L.A & it’s nostalgic to see the freeways & the old muscle beach from 1975. !
Awesome. New unseen Pumping Iron footage. Can see both Arnold & what looks like Ric Draisin repping out 315 on the flat bench in Golds. Both have said how they trained regularly together, & how Ric had the upper hand in the flat bench with a max 460lb bench, which he said used to nark Arnold a lil bit 😂. Though many have said Arnold was the man when it came to really hitting it hard at Golds. Numero Uno for a reason. Would love to see if any still unseen footage of Franco going heavy.
It would be really really cool if Arnold got off his high horse and show some humility and character by doing a 30 minute interview with Carlos...Carlos would be respectful and not sucker punch him with those awkward questions like about the 1980 Olympia....It will never happen but it would be awesome if he did seeing how Carlos is the top historical bodybuilding librarian on RUclips.
Arnold wouldn't even show up for an informal interview / friendly chatter with his old training partner and buddy Ric Drasin whose last wish was to get Arnold to come over and reminisce the old days. And the reason is because Ric wanted to talk honestly about all aspects of the golden era bodybuilding lifestyle including their drug usage. He did that with all his bodybuilder guests and old friends. I'm guessing the part about drugs was a huge red flag for Arnold, he wanted none of that, so he declined. Arnold is all about Arnold and promoting his own legacy and revamping his image before he leaves this earth, and if something doesn't benefit him in some shape or form, then he will not partake.
@@IronWarrior86 I know as an observer it was cruel to see Arnold give Ric the brush off again and again. And until the end Ric was never bitter and always defended him...
Golden Era physiques are the best. They combined functional strength + aesthetics (i.e., symmetry, proportion, etc). I always tell young guys that one of the best things you can do as a lifter interested in aesthetics / performance / strength is to study Old-School bodybuilding. Old-School bodybuilders were ingenious physique architects. They had a profound knowledge of the principles of proper nutrition, smart supplementation, exercise science, and muscle adaptability. If you combine Old-School bodybuilding wisdom with modern, evidence-based science, it's the best, safest, most effective way in achieving a strong, sexy, healthy, and aesthetic physique. "Vintage Physique" by George Kelly is a nice read on the topic.
I'd like to mention that the Golden Era guys' ped usage was much more thought out and dare I say safer, as they have enjoyed pretty good lifespans, and quality of life, especially compared to bodybuilders and fitness influencers now, who are dying in their 40', 30's and even 20's. It seems that the current guys are substituting some of the hard work with the drugs, and with poor outcomes.
Supposedly theres footage of Arnold goostepping and making nazi joke but I bet thats already been destroyed or will out after his death or never be released.
There were better BB’s out there than Arnold who never got their dues. Look at Robbie Robinson, Danny Padilla, Bertie Fox or Roy Calendar. Weider always had his boys whom he promoted
Arnold actually contradicted himself in his statements on steroids he said everyone at the top in bodybuilding is using them or has to use them then says they only are 5 %of his gains, how does that make any sense?
all steroid takers are complete liars.... as they can't admit that without gear, that ain't shit.... young guy in our gym, he's just turned 17, training for just over a year, and he's benching 440.... running like 5-6 different compounds. all gear users lie their asses off on what they take and how much they take...... all volume training and liver pills
@@NapsterRulez THEY DID A LOT OF DIFFERENT STEROIDS, BUT YOU THINK WHAT YOU WANT, THERE'S A REASON WHY ARNOLD HAS HAD 3 HEART SURGERIES, LAST ONE WAS A PACEMAKER, HE SAIS IT'S HEREDITARY, BS
@leelunk8235 Yep, in late 96 or early 97, Arnold said his brother died from a hereditary heart problem. I'm assuming he said this because Google Search wasn't quite operational yet so you couldn't really find out the truth that he died in a car accident. My friend, 1985 Mr California has heart problems. He wasn't on the sauce near as long as Arnold. A coworker died younger than Mike Mentzer from heart problems cause by PED's. The investigations unit(we were both Pease officers), told me, "Gonzales said it was hereditary, we're not stupid. We know it was steriods." Gonzo didn't even look that great and never won any good titles. He died being a mediocre gym rat. I have so many of these storyies from my 4+ decades of lifting. Can you imagine how many people believe Mike and Ray died of hereditary causes and not the fact that both did Old-School speed, heavily smoked and drank the strong stuff on a regular basis(not to mentioned combine with PED's). Those two are definitely not role models for a healthy living. I can say this with an open-heart because I really like them two since 78-79...but facts are just there.
