I can't make it to the show's because my dogs diabetic and gotta have those shots at certain hours. But he's more important to me than going to any shows
Interesting fact: Keith’s hat is only 64.7 the original hat. The rest is a fungal mycelium that has evolved exclusively on Keith’s head which grows to repair any wear. It’s literally a self replicating living organism.
4 different musicians all with very different and distinct styles being headed by a legendary frontman in Keith Morris. This might be one of the best Nardwuar interviews just from the shear fact that Nardwuar can pull something very knowledgeable from each of these guys since they all have a different background from another. I absolutely love it
You’d think someone at Keith’s age would still be playing tired old songs from 40 years ago, but the fact he’s still making new music that’s pretty damn good really cements his legacy in punk.
That makes a lot of sense he played with Herbie Hancock. The drums are absolutely phenomenal on Free LSD. The whole album is incredible, but that was one of the last albums I heard where the drums completely blew me away
I always thought of Keith as being ten years younger than me because of his small size and youthful squirming--first saw him in '77 at a student club at UCI, (California). But no, he's actually a year older than me, and I'm 66. He's a great example of never growing old, giving up, and reminiscing.
I met Circle Jerks at an after show parry in like 1984 or 5 and I was having a bad reaction to some weed I smoked, I was freezing and my jaw locked up. I could barely speak and out of all the people there Keith started piling coats on top of me to warm me up. I was so bummed out and embarrassed to be in that state out in public but he made me feel a lot better, I was very grateful. What some people might see as acting "too cool" is likely his sense of humor. I ran into him again in Philadelphia and I never thought he had a rock star attitude, he was just a busy person. The whole band was nice to me at that party, I wish the locals would have gotten a clue. 31:35--Yes! Omg he said it, I love it! I know what to call those kids now. Fuxk yeah, OFF!
I can’t tell if the guitarist was mocking Thurston Moore regarding the “tuning peg” “finding what sounds good” process but that was verbatim a direct quote from Thurston.
I love how Keith playfully busts balls with Nardwuar and you can also see the joy and/or satisfaction he gets from his band mates being blown away. He knew what he was doing haha. Almost like a proud dad at a surprise birthday party.
I bet if Keith were to wash his hat it would disintegrate into sludge lol. His hat is literally being held together by decades worth of dirt, sweat, beer and mold. (Love OFF! btw, me and my punk buddies in the mid 2000's looked even dirtier lol)
Great interview. You get a feel for each of the guys as just chill people. Free LSD is a very interesting album too, a breath of fresh air for punk and hardcore music. It has some cool psychedelic and jazzy elements.
I tracked down and called Keith Morris with my friends when i was a 16 year old....I'm 30 now..... He was the most down to earth dude and talked with us about black flag for a good 5 to 8 minutes. He told us he had bronchitis and had to go but said we could call back. One thing I wont ever forget is his recorded voicemail. It was pure Keith Morris. Watching this episode was an absolute treat.
I love bootlegs. I used to have a Minor Threat bootleg that was stolen. The mic goes out during the firat song and the rest of the set is the crowd screaming the lyrics at Ian. I still have a bootleg of Bowie and Iggy Pop from the late 70s. It's a prized possession. I also have a Sugarhill Gang bootleg that I hold very close to my heart.
For The Beatles bootleg, it's really good (though a couple of years ago an upgraded audio source was shared). There was rumors that the gig was videotaped? Something about the videotape being accidentally erased/lost or just never existed. He is right about the Bowie gig. Can't say much but a raw board tape was sold years ago. Loving the magazine from down beat. I must search for those! As usual I'm learning more about music history through Nardwuar interviews.
Man nardwaur u turned this episode upside when you gave the two new guys love … here they thought this interview was going to be full on Keith love … I was bursting out with laughter and joy seeing those guys smile Also when Keith mentioned the greatest bootleg ever I said out loud David Bowie Santa Monica civic 72
'I did live in Austin Texas for a fortnight' 😆😂 ok. Nardwar really needs some sort of award for his interviews. They are legendary. His research is unrivaled.
It just struck me while watching this that Keith is the DJ for the punk station on GTA V. I couldn’t figure out why his voice stood out so much until it clicked.
yo. the album is sick! the combo of these guys is crazy. drumming off the chain.. Keith Morris is the man as always. Classic. wow really surprised. this shit goes HARD! the only problem is that i can't get my headphones to go loud enough! imagine banned in dc bad brains and keith black flag got together and decided to fuck all and go IN!
The most beautiful interviews I have seen in my 40 years of life are Nardwar's! Thank you!! And what Blur and sonic youth did to him will never be forgotten!
@@KennedyIvy It was a random high schooler's video where he was asking other students what they knew about ska (this was 5-10 years ago) and no one knew anything and I made a joke about how the American education system might be doing okay.
I just found out who Keith Morris is. I looked him up. I've seen him, 2021 Riotfest. My second mosh pit ever to the reunion of Circle Jerks. I didn't take my glasses off lmao. Got destroyed.
this is a wild interview. I talked to Keith years ago when he came through town with OFF! Talked to Dimitri and Steve McDonald too. Mostly Steve, he was super personable. Dimitri was cool. Keith didn't want to hang out but he was cool. But Yea Dimitri is super nice
I was lucky enough to be @ the Starwood for that D.O.A./ X Show. DOA was, is, and will always be a Staple in my Diet. OFF! is a phenomenal Super Group in my world. A very needed and refreshing body of work. This lineup is Prodigious. Great Interview.
I feel like I’m experiencing some Matrix type shit, like I sent a bunch of emails to bands for interviews and now I’m seeing that they’ve just finished something, like FEAR with their EP and OFF! with this interview what is happening
I saw Circle Jerks at The Wilson Center in D.C, in '85. Keith asked people to stay off the stage because he'd broken his back. I thought it might have just been a clever way stop the stage diving. Years later when I got to know him I never thought to ask about that. Now I know.
Good times, thanks Nardwuar!
🔛
keep on rockin' in the free world
I can't make it to the show's because my dogs diabetic and gotta have those shots at certain hours. But he's more important to me than going to any shows
You guys are hilarious
@@peytdawgs9909 Dog Gonit. I salute you for your due diligence. Dogs is the center of my Universe. Woof Woof.
God damn, Nardwuar can’t catch a break with these former Black Flag singers
He does good with chavo
He does well with Ron Reyes
I think this interview was absolutely fine
Ron is the most chillest and gracious gentleman you’ll ever meet tho.
Keith's hat has its own ecosystem.
more biodiversity than a high school bathroom
lmao
Haha
Keith's hat has seen some things
imagine the bouquet
Not a washing machine
That hat probably lived more than most of us hahaha
Some serious black mold up in there
I’ve seen it in person 😊

My favorite is the jello biafra/ melvins interview
WE ARE SO LUCKY TO HAVE NARDWUAR AND OFF ALIVE AND HEALTHY IN 2023
stop yelling
Keith Morris has such an iconic voice
Christian Slater reminds me of him.
When I read his book, I couldn’t not read it without hearing his voice haha. Great book btw
Indeed
you ever do an impression of him
All I hear is gta v radio
You’d think someone at Keith’s age would still be playing tired old songs from 40 years ago, but the fact he’s still making new music that’s pretty damn good really cements his legacy in punk.
The first 10mins I was uncontrollably laughing at how Keith was talking to nardwuar 😂
Same here, especially when he brought up the bad self given tattoos about a certain individual
Keith’s hat makes him look like a cigarette butt mid pull.
That’s crazy the drummer used to play for Thundercat. What a massive change in every way.
Thundercat played in suicidal tendencies for a good while.
Autry (bass player) is Thundercat's manager
Nardwaur never forgets his roots.
This dude is amazing. Instead of asking"what are your influences" he name drops dudes most important music influence and creates a really cool moment.
These guys are soo weird yet soo interesting. Now I'm interested in checking their music lol
Definitely check them out!!
I was gonna say the same shit 😂
Dude Off is amazing. Probably the last real popular hardcore punk band around
"Well that's normally what you do in the summer time in a swimming pool. You swim 😤"
"Ba-boom 😁"
Keith Morris known for hosting Channel X radio station in Grand Theft Auto V
Keith Morris is THE voice of Southern California punk rock. Fight me.
That makes a lot of sense he played with Herbie Hancock. The drums are absolutely phenomenal on Free LSD. The whole album is incredible, but that was one of the last albums I heard where the drums completely blew me away
7:42 Classic Nardwuar "break the musician's character and blow their mind" moment
So crazy seeing Autry do a Nardwar interview HIMSELF after him just kinda being around for Thundercat’s interview. Very cool. Thanks Nard!
I always thought Keith's dreads were really long, but now I see that it's just that he is really short.
And his band is six feet something
What's cooler, the record collection in the background, or Keith wearing a jack-o-lantern from 1980 as a hat?
hahaha
I always thought of Keith as being ten years younger than me because of his small size and youthful squirming--first saw him in '77 at a student club at UCI, (California). But no, he's actually a year older than me, and I'm 66. He's a great example of never growing old, giving up, and reminiscing.
This comment is so sweet. I can't believe he's 67, I thought he was for sure ten years younger than my dad, who's 63. hahaha. This interview is great.
I met Circle Jerks at an after show parry in like 1984 or 5 and I was having a bad reaction to some weed I smoked, I was freezing and my jaw locked up. This is why I love reading the comments on Nardwuar videos, thanks for sharing a piece of history
He seems to be authentically compassionate. A rare attribute in moderne times. He is what a real role model should be.
I can’t tell if the guitarist was mocking Thurston Moore regarding the “tuning peg” “finding what sounds good” process but that was verbatim a direct quote from Thurston.
Autry’s deer-in-the-headlights look is absolutely hilarious. Very nice guy in real life, maybe he was anxious?
That might be just his resting face lol
Yeah strange because he was in the Thundercat interview because he's his manager
I just saw that FEAR is playing Vancouver B.C. soon, fingers crossed for a Lee Ving interview
I can never tell if Keith is joking or not
I saw OFF! open for the Chili Peppers in Auckland 10 years ago. They tore the roof off the joint and wiped the stage floor with my beloved Peppers.
Nardwuar, please interview Keith's hat next time. I'm pretty sure it's becoming sentient
My first Nardwuar view: "wtf is this goofball doing?"
My 250th Nardwuar view: "Hell yeah, Nardwuar, best interviewer in rock, maaann...😎"
The older OFF records are good as they go, but the new one with this lineup is different, fresh and extremely cool.
I love how Keith playfully busts balls with Nardwuar and you can also see the joy and/or satisfaction he gets from his band mates being blown away. He knew what he was doing haha. Almost like a proud dad at a surprise birthday party.
I love how nardwuar breaks down the "too cool" barrier throughout the interview
Also, you can see that the band actually has a sense of humor--they don't find Nardwar threatening, which they shouldn't.
wasnt sure he would succeed at first to be honest lol
He always does!!!!
I bet if Keith were to wash his hat it would disintegrate into sludge lol.

'I did live in Austin Texas for a fortnight' 😆😂 ok. Nardwar really needs some sort of award for his interviews. They are legendary. His research is unrivaled.
Nardwuar proving once again that he is the 🐐 of interviewers.
Nard Your professionalism is shining in this interview. You were brilliant. great job. You were awesome in this interview.
It just struck me while watching this that Keith is the DJ for the punk station on GTA V. I couldn’t figure out why his voice stood out so much until it clicked.
God damn Keith sounds like Dennis Hopper from Apocalypse Now.
Keith Morris hit that SPIN CYCLE at the end.
Both OFF! and Nardwuar are legendary.
i wanna see an episode where nardwuar says someone's name and they have no recollection
I don't foresee this ever happening outside of a FREE LSD trip, or a bizarre dream. He definitely does more research than most any interviewer, ever!?
DUDE I IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED THE ONE DUDE. He is the background dude talking on Channel X on GTA 5 😮
If Nardwuar gave me a Beatles album I’d probably hug the guy. Beatles were my dad’s favorite band and it’s always a great way to remember him by.

Keith once got upset in the replies of a comment I left on a random video because I made fun of ska and that's my number 1 Keith Morris memory.
What was your comment?

Autrys head is what the aliens modeled the easter island heads after.

Keith made me laugh so hard
Van cuuuuuuuu ver
I’m dying to know what Keith was going to ask Nardwuar at 5:36.
The voice in Keith's hat tells him only to play with giants now. So they have to look down at it all the time
😂😂😂😂
Keith is like a fucking punk rock Toby Radloff.
Keith’s look when Nardwuar touched the vinyl 😂😂😂
Am I the only one that laughs as Keith speaks?
